RT Windows Word documents

I just bought a Microsoft Surface with Windows RT 2. I want to download my email or via USB if possible key Word documents originally created on a laptop computer with Word 2007, but I fear that documents can be infected by virus or malware of this laptop. I can even do this in the first place with the RT, and is the security problem a real concern? I would keep having access to these documents related to work and don't have time to recreate them on the shelf. Any contribution is appreciated. I'm not that great with computers and have never owned a tablet before so I apologize for possibly stupid question. Thank you!

Hey Kayla,

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

You get a security warning message if in case you have tried to download the files?

Windows Defender is a part OS Windows RT. If it is activated and if there is really a concern of viruses or security with the specific Word documents, you will get a security warning message to scan documents in some antivirus scanner before using.

As a solution, I suggest to download the files and save them to a particular location. Do NOT open them for security reasons. Run a virus scan and check if the files are listed as being infected. If this isn't the case, you can use the files without any problems.

So, you can also run the Microsoft Safety Scanner to make sure that the computer is free of infections:
http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note:
The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.
The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

Hope this information is useful. Let us know if you need more help, we will be happy to help you.

I can't paste clip art into windows mail. (do not give me the option.)   I copied the clipart in Word document.  I use IE8, IE9, but unnstalled have in the hope of resolving the problem.   Thank you, Pam

You cannot copy and paste images (especially the cliparts) of the word.  You need to refer to a disk image.  So use Insert | Picture to insert the image.  The image must also be a format that IE can display, as it is used to show messages in WinMail.

IE9 is not a problem for that. See here for IE9 questions: www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#15

I opened a word from Windows Mail document, changed using Word 2007, you press on save and close the document.  Now I can not find where he saved.  I tried the search function in Vista, but it can not find the file either.  I tried to re - open the file in the email, but I just get the original version.  Can anyone suggest where it might be?

Once you open a Word attachment in an email, you must save it to your HARD drive until you make changes. If you do not, the changes are lost, but the original attachment is still with the e-mail.

  • Windows Explorer preview pane function hangs Word when trying to preview Word documents.

I have a problem with the Windows Explorer and the preview pane.  When I activate the pane at the bottom and try to view a Word Document it blocks Word even if Word is not open.  What happens on Windows 7 x 64 systems, we have many systems with the same question.   Does anyone have a solution?

I tried the SFC/scannow, start in safe mode, disabling startup items and Services, and it happens again every time I try to get a glimpse of a Word document.

  • Word document not on the window when I click on 'new', while displaying the file

I display the contents of a folder. I want to create a new doc 'Word' in this folder. I right click on the folder on the left lower corner of the window, then click 'new '. It does not display "Word document" option. How can I add this in the option "new"?

One of the simplest ways is to repair your installation of Word.  Perform the following steps:

    1. Go to control panel and select programs and features
    2. In the list, find Microsoft Office and choose 'Edit' and then 'fix '.
  • How to search for a Word document in Windows 8?

I'm stumbling around Windows 8 that came pre-loaded on my new laptop.  I ordered Windows and Excel to be included in the package.  I saved a number of documents in Word, and now I need to get these documents for a particular.  I looked on the Internet and found a lot of no-help, that is to say, 'go in search of a file'.  Excuse me, but if I could find searching a file, I could probably find out how to search for the file, Huh?  Thus,.

Could someone please help me with: how to find a Word document (1) and (2) where is the infamous "search"?

I did the thing 'sweep to the right side of the screen"to get those things shadow to appear, and click on the magnifying glass (which I think the engineers forgot to change when they changed everything!) and if I wanted to search for apps, I'd be in great shape.  But his files I'm looking for, Word documents.  The designers of this 'new' version improved - well, new, in all cases seem to have forgotten those of use who use computers for productive work and not socialize or play games.

Sorry for the hike and whining, but I'm very frustrated that the tasks that were once very simple are now extremely difficult to fill.

It's pretty easy, at the beginning screen just type the name of your document and right it will bring the search screen and you select files (files, settings, Apps). Take a look at:

  • How to type a word document like I did with Windows 7 word processor

How to type a word document that I did on the processing on Vista?

Microsoft Office (incl. Word) does not include Windows 8 (or another version of Windows): it is a suite of applications that can be purchased separately. If you had before and he did not buy, it was probably a "OEM version" which was supplied by the manufacturer of your PC (& that you paid at the same time that your PC). You should also note that software OEM is linked to its origin PC (motherboard actually) and cannot be transferred to a new machine.

Check if you were supposed to get Microsoft Office with your current PC.

If you have Windows 8, you should be able to access Word through a tile on the Start screen. You can check if its installed by looking in the programs and features control Panelsection.

If you do not have Microsoft Word you can buy it individually or part of a suite Microsoft Office. Please see:

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/products/?CTT=97 .

Windows 8 still has the built-in basis called WordPad word processing. Just type WordPad when the Start screen until it appears.

There are other available word processing programs, including those that are free.

What is "Adobe XI" - Reader or Acrobat?

But, "Save as Adobe PDF" is a function of Word, independent of this Adobe software, you have installed.

It is somewhere between quite unlikely and very little probable that you will find anywhere.  When you open a document from the email that you open a temporary copy of the file, and unless you use "Save as" to save to a network drive or a location on your hard drive, this temporary copy is the one that is being updated.  In general, as soon as you close the e-mail message or e-mail program, the temporary copy went forever.

You could try a search on your hard drive, including indexed and hidden locations and the files system and records, but it is not likely that you will find.

  • Windows Vista - my worksheets had icons for word documents or installation of programs icons

When starting my computer, why Office five of the six albums icons for spread sheet documents appear as icons for word documents and the icon for the sixth broadcast sheet paper appears as one of an executable program?  My computer is infected?

    Hi VidaFenton,

    (1) remember to make changes?

    (2) is this problem limited to spreadsheets?

Method 1: Run the fixit available in the links below and check if that makes a difference-Worth to try
Difficulty of broken desktop shortcuts and common system maintenance tasks

Note: FixIt would attempt to recover bad sectors on the hard disk, in the course of this process there are chances of DATA loss from that particular area.

Method 2: If you suspect a virus infection, run Microsoft Security scanner (MSS) to any threat and try to correct

  • I lost a word document in windows 7. How can I recover it?

I was working on a word document and he lost.  Is it possible that I can recover it?

If you have ASR on (which I believe is the default), you may have a version of the file.

    In Word 2007 :

Click the Office button , Options in Word , Save and check if you have ASR on and right below that are the default path where files are saved. If all goes well, you can find something in the file, so you do not lose everything. Microsoft® Security MVP, 2004-2009

  • When you open a Word document downloaded, hundreds of tabs begin opening in Firefox. How can I stop this happening?

I just installed Office 2007 on my computer and downloaded some documents on the internet. When I try to open Firefox becomes crazy and opens the tabs of the browser faster that I can close them, with no sign of stopping. How can I stop what is happening and have access to the downloads? Any help much appreciated!

OK, solved. It's not Firefox, it's Windows. Somehow, it had been changed to open Word documents as browsers. I had my suspicions that it wasn't Firefox as Word documents to open in form of tabs in the browser even if Firefox is not running. The only way to open a Word doc was if it was already on the hard drive.

For someone who has a similar problem, it's how to correct:

    Open my computer.
On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    Click the File Types tab.
In the registered file types list, click the file that you are trying to open. In my case, it was the doc files. In the list this type of file has been shown by a Firefox icon, indicating that what was used to open the file.
Under the list of registered file types scroll details for each file type are displayed, with an option for "opens with:
Click Edit to the right of the present and choose the program to use in the future. Click OK and close the dialog box file types. This should solve the problem.
