Running ESX 4.1 ProLiant ML110 G6?

I noticed that the ML110 G6 is not on the HCL. But I heard that vSphere 4.1 is executed on it very well. Is this true? And are there any known issues with ESX running on hardware that is not listed in the HCL?

Wouldn't be okay as long as there is a 64-bit processor using VT64?

Do a quick search on the forum shows that many people tried to install ESXi 4.1 on this server. However, I have not found a thread where he worked. First of all there are problems with the DVD ROM is not recognized during the installation process and, secondly, the built-in B110i controller is not supported.

Even if you do this work, you should keep in mind that each update could break the system. If it is for production, I suggest to get a model of supported server. If you go with HP, you can get good prices on HP models renew.

  • Connect a Powervault MD1200 to a PowerEdge R710 5.1 running esx using SAS cables

    Hello

    I bought a Powervault md1200 and a perc h800 controller.

I'll install the perc controller in my PowerEdge r710 5.1 running esx server.

Then connect the md1200 to the r710 via sas cables. The powervault is no NIC.

My question is, how to configure the RAID while booting the r710? I understand that if I were on Windows, I could use open manage but I'm not familiar with how to do this from a 5.1 esx server.

    I'd appreciate any help.

    Thank you

    Flynn

    Hello Flynn,

What you need to do is to go into the Bios of your H800 controller and you can then configure your virtual disk MD1200.  Once you have the virtual disk created, then you will be able to do a scan in ESX & he should see the virtual disk that are created.  To access the boot controller bios you need to hit Ctrl + C to enter the bios.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • VMware ESXi does not support the RAID on HP Proliant ML110 G5 drives

    Hello

I installed VMware ESXi on my HP Proliant ML110 G5. I got 3 hard drives on my server at the moment, one of them is VMware ESXi and other two are RAID1.
Whenever I connect to my server via vSphere client I have the chance to see every HARD drive (datastore) separately.  Is it possible that VMware does not RAID installation?
I would need to see these two hard drives as a data store. Do you have any ideas on how I can do?
    Thank you.

like any other typical server, you need to configure the sata raid controller RAID5/RAID0. but keep in mind that this controller without any battery backed cache would have very horrible performance. Another way is that you can use datastore span to provide as a large store of data, but if you lose all of the computer, you will lose all data.

  • Running ESX for free?

Is it possible to run ESX after the period of assessment without purchasing a license? I thought it was possible to run ESX after the eval for free, but in a more limited fashion. I can't find any mention of this now, so maybe I'm wrong. I know that you can run VMWare Server for free on top of Windows, but I would like to know if it is possible with ESX.

ESX expires after 60 days.  ESXi, you can get a free serial for and use it indefinitely.

  • Help networking running ESX (i) in the VM Workstation

    Hi everyone-

    Hope someone can help.

I have ESX (i) running in the VM Workstation on my laptop. My problem is that I can't move from my laptop to the domestic VMs. The route correctly on VMs inside and I can communicate back and forth with ESX just cannot access the internal VMs from my laptop. I can ping the default gateway of my laptop workstation VM virtual network editor implements.

    -On promiscuous mode

-Tried several options with nic, vSwitch and VM workstation network Editor.

Any ideas on how to Setup network for this config? Goal is to be able to RDP to internal VMs.

    Thank you

    Jason

This should be pretty easy - please show a screenshot of your network virtual Editor settings.

Here is all I have to do on the ESXi vmnet0 for example ethernet card

the host can have the IP 10.0.0.1, the ESXi then takes 10.0.0.2 and the nested VM gets 10.0.0.3
I don't have to manually set routes at all

It should also work with vmnet0 and DHCP for three - assuming you have a DHCP server that is connected to the bridged the host network adapter

during troubleshooting, turn off the firewall host and the nested VM

  • Windows 2008 SP2 running on a HP ProLiant DL160se - cannot delete hiberfil.sys

First of all, it's a running AD AD 2008 R2 domain controller.

It was built about 2 years ago.

    C: 30 GB disk

    100 GB drive D:

Yes. I know that the C: drive is small but that's the way it was built and I have to live with it until the next refresh.

    Here's my problem.

I'm only 400 MB of free space on the C: drive and am afraid that at the next round of patching this server will run out of space.

We have a file hiberfil.sys on the C: drive, which is close to 5 GB in size.

We don't Hibernate enabled nor do we ever want to use.

I Googled it and I tried all the suggestions and nothing seems to me to delete the file.

I don't have a HibernateEnabled registry setting anywhere in the registry.

I don't have a setting of 'Sleep' in the Advanced Power Options.

I tried the following, and I still couldn't remove:

    -powercfg/h off

I also tried to enable it, but it came up saying that I don't have enough space to create the hibernation file. WTF?

As much as I can say that we have no setting Hibernate anywhere in the OS so why this file exist and how can I get rid of him. ?

Help! at the end of the roll.
