  You could simply stop the Microsoft Essentials if it's getting in the way.

  Prevent the Microsoft Antimalware Service starts automatically

  If you cannot find the software under the name mentioned in the article, locate the service called Windows Defender.

  Recently, I removed Windows Live OneCare from my laptop and installed Windows Security Essentials.

  I am running Vista Home Premium (32) with all of its updates. I access my internet through a network that is secured via a router.

  When I turn on the Windows Firewall, my internet connection is interrupted. I still have my network connection, but do not have access to internet; the connection icon network in the system tray will blink with the globe to Flash only without the globe and goes the saying "local and internet" to "local only".

  I solved it.  Full non-everything we discussed so far.  The system has no any active swap space.  It has 4 GB of RAM, which should be a lot... but for some reason, the swap has 168KO in it once vmware launches... and it is stable as can be.  Only a GB of RAM is used, but it seems that vmware needs the swap to be present.
