  • Safari has found a Trojan virus (e.tre456_worm_osx).

I thought that I was updating my flash drive, but apparently, instead I installed malicious software on my iMac.  Now, whenever I run Safari, I get redirected to a page that looks like it tries to be the Apple Support, but wants me call (and pay, I'm sure) to get this virus deleted from my computer.  I have also get this popup notice, "Safari has found a Trojan virus (e.tre456_worm_osx) on your Mac.  The site I'm headed to that is http://apple.com-systemnotice.com.  Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Don't go to the site. Download and run MalwareBytes. Malwarebytes was developed by one of our colleagues here to ASC. He received rave reviews and is on the more proven anti-malware for Mac software.

  • My Macbook Pro has a virus?

I was reading an article online when I clicked on a hyperlink to continue reading more on the topic. Once I clicked it, I was redirected to a page where a pop up is appeared. He said thinking that your computer has been hacked and gave me a number to call. I couldn't X out of the pop up or make any where on my laptop. I called the number, but I restart my computer. When I have opened Safari, the pop up was gone, but I was prompted to download a new version of Safari, but people tell me not to download something like it could be a virus. Is it possible that I can tell if my computer is being hacked or if it has a virus? I have a Macbook Pro from 2013.

    Use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware: http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php

You can also remove the adware manually by following the steps provided by Apple: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203987

After that, make sure that your default search provider is set to the one you always use. To do this, open Safari - Preferences - research.

Go to the Safari menu (at the top right of your screen next to the Apple icon), choose 'Quit Safari'

Press the "Shift" key and while holding this button on your unique keyboard, click the icon of Safari on your Dock.

Open Safari - Preferences - Privacy - data to remove any Web site.

Also, I think it would be a good idea to install AdBlock.

  • Safari has been hijacked by ads (javascript)

Safari has been hijacked by the ads. I rooted out launch launch demons, agents, deleted all the data of the Web site, additional extensions (adblock, clicktoflash, trafficlight) and the problem persists. The only thing that stops it is disable javascript, but it returns if I activate again. The words that should be plain html are converted into links Hypertext/rollover and they ALWAYS display an ad of "Top case" no matter where I click on the screen, they open an ad. I called Applesupport, and their only solution was to leave Javascript disabled or communicate with Java. But Java only pay support. Someone at - it suggestions? I'm at my wits end here.

You may have installed ad-injecting malicious software ("adware").

Do not use any type of product, "anti-virus" or "anti-malware" on a Mac. It is never necessary for her, and relying on it for protection makes you more vulnerable to attacks, not less.

    Save all data first.

Some of the most common types of adware can be removed by following the instructions from Apple. But before you follow these instructions, you can try an automatic removal.

If you are not already running the latest version of Mac OS X ("El Capitan"), update or upgrade in the App Store you could adware to automatically remove. If you are already using the latest version of El Capitan, you can still download the current update of the Apple Support downloads page and run it. Still, some types of malware will be deleted, not all. There is no such thing as the automatic removal of all possible malware, either by OS X third party software. That's why you can't rely on software to protect you.

If the malware is deleted in your case, you will still need to make changes to the way you use your computer to protect you from new attacks. Ask if you need advice.

If the malware is not automatically deleted, and you cannot remove yourself by following the instructions from Apple, see below.

This simple procedure to detect any type of adware that I know. Disabling is a procedure distinct and better still.

Some legitimate software is funded by advertising and may display advertisements in its own windows or in a web browser while it is running. It's not malware and it may not appear. In addition, some Web sites display advertising intrusive popup that can be confused with adware.

If none of your web browsers work well enough to carry out these instructions, restart the computer in safe mode. Allows to temporarily disable the malware.

    Step 1

Please triple - click on the line below on this page to select it, and then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination:

    ~/Library/LaunchAgents

    In the Finder, select

Go ▹ go to the folder...

from the menu bar and paste it into the box that opens by pressing command + v press return. Open a folder named "LaunchAgents", or you will get a notice stating that the file cannot be found. If the file is not found, proceed to the next step.

If the folder opens, press the combination of keys command-2 to select the display of the list, if it is not already selected. Please don't skip this step.

There should be a column in the update Finder window. Click this title two times to sort the content by date with the most recent at the top. If necessary, enlarge the window so that all the content show.

Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "take a screenshot of a window." An image file with a name starting in 'Screenshot' should be saved to the desktop. Open the capture screen and make sure it is readable. If this isn't the case, capture a small part of the screen indicating that what needs to be shown.

Start a reply to this message. Drag the image file in the editing window downloading. Alternatively, you can include text in the response.

Leave the case open for now.

    Step 2

Do as in step 1 with this line:

    /Library/LaunchAgents

The record which can open up will have the same name but is not the same as in step 1. In this step, the folder does not exist.

    Step 3

    Repeat with this line:

    /Library/LaunchDaemons

This time the file will be called "LaunchDaemons."

    Step 4

Open Safari preferences window and select the tab 'Extensions'. If the extensions are listed, post a screenshot. If there are no extensions, or if you cannot launch Safari, skip this step.

    Step 5

If you use Firefox or Chrome browser, open the list of extensions and do as in step 4.

  • Is my iPad has a virus?

I'm one of these scam messages saying I was caught watching a child * on my iPad. The message was just one of those pop up messages like the one say you you have 10% remaining battery. I quickly closed safari, reopened, and removed from the tab. Pop up had an OK button at the bottom, but I press on it. . Can I catch a virus to do that? I know it's a scam message. How do I know if my iPad has a virus? I transformed my iPad and turn it on again and when I did about 10 applications have been opened that I never use. I closed turned them on again and the same apps were opened in the same order. Also my safari changed for the Google Desktop instead of the normal site.i mobile version I'm on iOS 9.1.

You have made the right choice. You will get a pop up virus.  You can also go to settings > safari > clear historic data and Web site to get the pop up to go further if necessary. -AJ

  • This morning when I started Firefox it shows my home page as screwed up as yesterday but Safari has shown as it should look like, what is wrong?

I currently use version 3.6.24 Firefox on my PPC mac with 10.4.11 system. I use Firefox for many years without any problems. I received yesterday and on my screen to alert that there is a new update of Firefox available at the facility. I clicked on OK and the update started. When it's over, I checked and it's the same version, 3.6.24, I used and apparently nothing has changed until I went to my eBay site. Once on my site, I signed in and went to manage my Articles page. The page was different because normally it shows all the items, I have for sale and at the top of the list of points of sale are the three items to check and look at my listings, which I look at you, my profile and my alerts. When you click on one of them you are normally taken to another page. When I went there after apparent installation of the updated release of Firefox page showed my ads in a single column, my profile in another column and third column for my alerts all on one page. This is not normal. I got out and went to my home page which is http://www.rr.com/. Now it was different. Parts of the site have disappeared, the sections with the weather, news, and reviews. I thought it might be the site and then I launched Safari and went to the same page and it is normal. This morning when I started Firefox it shows my home page as screwed up as yesterday. Safari has shown as it should look like. I then started SeaMonkey and it showed the page as it should look like. I really like Firefox and I'd like to get it working again as it should. Would appreciate any suggestions. My email address is [email protected]
