safely remove files to create space

How can I safely delete files and programs to free up space on my hard drive? I have Windows XP, service pack 3. I have deleted many files, but still continue to not get «enough space to download...» Please delete space. "I don't want to delete everything that is needed to run my pc... I am computer illiterate.

If you need space - it's probably the files * you * created who eat upward of space.  Go through your music, Documents, videos, photos, spreadsheets, your databases, emails, downloads and so on--MOVE those external storage.  Windows XP with SP3 and an assortment of installed applications must resume between 4.5 and 9 GB of total space.  Most "modern" computers have hard drives exceeding the 40 GB - usually more than 80-200 GB.  That means that you should have a little free other than * your * files.

If you run low space - it's because you're not archiving/backup/or because your hard disk is not enough for your needs.

If you are comfortable with the stability of your system, you can remove the

You can disable hibernation if it is enabled and you do not...

When you Hibernate your computer, Windows saves the content of the system
memory for the hiberfil.sys file. As a result, the size of the hiberfil.sys
file will always be equal to the amount of physical memory in your system. If you
do not use the Hibernate feature and want to reclaim the space that Windows
uses the hiberfil.sys file, perform the following steps:

-Start the Control Panel Power Options applet (go to start, settings,
Control Panel, then click on Power Options).
-Select the Hibernate tab, clear the checkbox 'Activate the hibernation', then
Click OK; Although you might think otherwise, selecting never under the
"Hibernate" option on the power management tab does not delete the
file Hiberfil.sys.
-Windows will remove the "Hibernate" option of the power management
tab and delete the hiberfil.sys file.

You can control the amount of space your system restore can use...

1. Click Start, right click my computer and then click Properties.
2. click on the System Restore tab.
3. Select one of your readers (or C: If you only) and click on
the button "settings".
4 change the percentage of disk space you want to allow...  I suggest you switch
the cursor until you have about 1 GB (1024 MB or close to that...)
5. click on OK. Then click OK again.

You can control the amount of space used may or may not temporary Internet files...

Empty the temporary Internet files and reduce the size, it stores a
size between 64 MB and 128 MB...

-Open a copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
-Select TOOLS-> Internet Options.
-On the general tab in the 'Temporary Internet files' section, carry out the
Next:
-Click on 'Delete the Cookies' (click OK)
-Click on "Settings" and change the "amount of disk space to use:" to
something between 64 MB and 128 MB. (It may be much more right
now.)
-Click OK.
-Click on 'Delete files', then select 'delete all offline content '.

(the box), and then click OK. (If you had a LOT, this may take 2-10
minutes or more.)
-Once it's done, click OK, close Internet Explorer, open Internet
Solution Explorer.

You can use an application that scans your system for the log files and

  • How can I know which files fragmented, I can safely remove?

    original title: fragmentation of files

How can I know which files fragmented, I can safely remove? Some of my fragmented files are system files.

Fragmented files are not bad! At worst, need another millisecond or two for the system read this file.  If the file is rarely or never accessed, so there no performance impact at all.  When you delete files from your machine, fragmentation does not fall within the decision-making process. If you don't remove them if they are not fragmented, then you should not remove them, period.  If you mind really that a file is fragmented after you run a standard defragmentation, there are programs out there as freeware "Contig" that defragment almost anything.

    Hi templar_39,

DM (Message Delivery) file types are not Windows files, they can be generated by a third-party program.

This particular file type is often associated with audio data and can be hosted on some cell phones to be used as ringtones or multimedia clips. To my knowledge, these files can be generated by your mobile phone.

Note: you can go ahead and remove these files only if you notice that the files do not contain any important information.

If this happens without connect you all devices (like mobile PHONES), this may be a virus or malware activity. You can run a virus scan to get rid of them

  • Adobe log files consume disk space

Twice since Saturday, I received messages from system Windows to be out of disk space. I traced the issue to an accumulation of Adobe log files in < username > \AppData\Local\Temp C:\Users\ named adobegc < date > < time .log >. These log files are created at the rate of once per hour and most are about 6.5 GB in size, except the log files created between 03:00 and noon are 0 bytes. Usually, my 500 GB hard drive is about half full. I can remove the logs, but I don't know how to prevent them from accumulating in a first time.

I have the following Adobe products installed:

    Acrobat CC

    AIR

    Creative cloud

    Dreamweaver CC 2015

    Extensions Manager

    CS6 Fireworks

Flash Player 19 (NPAPI and PPAPI)

    Help Manager

    Illustrator CC 2015

    Reader XI

First of all, this problem occurred on 26. Creative cloud had been updated to the latest version on the 24th. Adobe AIR and Flash Player are both set to day 26. No other applications have been updated recently.

What should I do to fix this?

  • Impossible to safely remove external USB HDD - ejection of mass storage device problem

    Hello

I have a 250 toshiba external hard drive. "When I go safely remove device and click on stop, guests me that ' ejection of mass storage device problem and try later.

Is there a reason for this? As I have heard it is dangerous to pull the cord without stopping it first.

This happens usually when something is always access to the USB - HDD.
Yes, it s dangerous to pull on the cable, because you can lose some data and the file system may be damaged. But if you have a situation where you need the drive to take with you and want to just get out the cable to the USB port there is a little trick to disconnect the security apparatus:

Do right click on 'My Computer'-> click on Hardware-> click "devicemanager"-> go into "diskdrives"-> then you need to click on the drive that is your USB - HDD-> with the right button and then click on 'Properties'-> in the menu properties of this drive, you must go on "policies" and click on "optimize for quick removal"-> and then click OK and exit this menu and all-> perform a reboot-> closing information fact. :)

After that, it s safe for remove you your drive even if it s not ejected. :)
