Satellite A100-495: strange starting problems & freezes

Hey guys.

I recently got my Satellite A100-495 back from repair - it had a power problem (no led was flashing and it does not start of course). They told me that the motherboard has been renewed.

Now, I have the following two issues:

(1) it freezes suddenly sometimes in windows after 1-2 hours of operation without problems and I have to hold the power button for a few seconds restart

(2) I press the power on button, LEDS are underway but the screen remains black, sometimes becomes gray, hard drive makes noise, fans going on but it just does not start, do not show anything. After some tests, I have to start but once again crashes after a couple hours of functioning properly.

Can someone tell me what is the problem here?

Bad memory (RAM) can cause this.

If you can get it to start, test the memory with Memtest on a bootable CD. www.memtest.org

Otherwise, try the combination of the different memory card. If you have 2 sticks of memory, try with one stick, then try the other stick, try different locations.
Often the memory pins can oxidize and cause problems. To clean the pins, use a pencil eraser/rubber and rub the pins of module memory.
Be careful when you handle the memory, you can zap easily memory with static electricity. To make sure that you are connected to the earth when the memory handling.

Description seems you very strange because the question what you described happens sometimes. Eventually it s only a software malfunction?

What do you think of the resettlement using the recovery CD?
This relocation and new OS can sometimes solve problems of frizzing.

  • Satellite A100-495 - Intel 3945abg wireless network card cannot find wifi networks

    Greetings,

I have some problems with networks wireless on my laptop Satellite A100-495.

The problem is: my wireless adapter (intel / pro 3945abg) doesn't seem to find wireless networks. If I portable place very close to my router wireless (such as 1 m) - connection can be established. If I move away (~ 5 m)-no connection or 'very bad' quality and constantly broken. Other notebooks I've tried still have "very good" quality at the same range.

This happens with other routers as well. And I can not any sign of wi - fi in my Uni (my colleagues have no problem with their machines).

I tried to play up with some parameters. Reinstalled adapter. Downloaded the latest drivers. Nothing helps.

A tip? Thank you in advance.

    Hello

Something like that happened to me a long time ago.
I used the Wlan configuration option to own Windows. For several months, I use the Intel Proset configuration utility to establish the WiFi connection!
    It works!

In addition, I have disabled the power Wlan option in the Wlan card properties save and adjust the intensity of the signal at top. I remember, in the advanced properties, you can find the 802.11 option preamble. The value is Long and short on my laptop.

    Hey dude... Check it out.

  • Satellite A100-495 - installed 256 MB, but 64-bit technology?

    Hello

I read in a forum that the map graphic of this laptop a geforce go 7600 is. So now, here's the problem. In another forum I read that some graphics from nvidia with 128 MB cards have a 64-bit technology. So now, I want to know if this card in Satellite A100-495 with 64-bit technology?

It would be nice if you answer and give an experience with this laptop.

    MFG

PS Sorry for the bad English.

Did you mean graphics drivers with 64-bit technology or the graphics chip?
The different Geforce graphics chips are supported values of up to 256-bit
As far as I know this laptop with GeForce Go 7600 Code name G73M graphics controller takes in charge a time memory 1000 MHz 128-bit memory interface.

  • Satellite A100 - 495 (PSAA9) - CPU and GPU upgrade

    Hi all

    I have a few questions.
    I have a Satellite A100-495 with 2 GB of Ram, Core2Duo 1.83 GHz (2 x; T5600) and an NVIDIA Geforce 7600go.
I want to spend the CPU and the GPU. Is this possible?
I don't want to do. I am looking for a store (if possible in Germany) that can do this.

If its possible, what it costs? And what store can I speak?

If this is not possible-> why? It is fixed; It getting too hot?

What solution do I? I don't want to buy a new laptop.

    Kind regards
    Dave

Update CPU and GPU on laptop computers is complicated enough or is not possible. At first, I must say that GPU is part of the motherboard and graphics card can not be upgraded at all.

What about the CPU upgrade? Toshiba authorized service providers will not do that and the CPU upgrade is not supported. Few people on this forum have talked about CPU upgrade, but for me the risk is too high. All hardware components are adapted to the work well together and also to reduce the risk of damaging the material. The BIOS is also suitable for the specific hardware configuration. The values of the fans are also tested and there is no risk of overheating.

Change CPU, you will get no more powerful laptop. Modern processors are powerful enough and a few MHz more won't do anymore difference. What you can do is to increase the RAM to the maximum level - 4 GB. That s all what you should do and your laptop runs a lot faster.

Also be careful on the configuration of the operating system. This will also help make your laptop faster than before.

By the way: for operations you need more power? What you want to do with your laptop?

  • How to Exchange screen cracked on Satellite A100-495

    Hi all

My sister gave me his Satellite A100-495 to repair broken screen. Now, I am looking for an instruction open Notepad and replace the TFT, but I can't find one?
Someone who could give me a link?
(And Yes, I know not to risk... ;-))

    KR, komo

    Dear KOMO

Please don't get me wrong but replacing the screen is quite complicated, and for that you need some manuals with accurate description how do. Unfortunately this document isn't public and you do not download.

So the question is what to do now. As Akuma has already written you can Google around and maybe find something, but you have to understand that everything you do is at your own risk. Maybe you should seek professional help. It is better to pay a little bit and it will be well and properly. No you don't have to do this a Toshiba service.

Check all possibilities and try to find the best deal.

    In any case, good luck!

  • Satellite A200 - STARTING problems, freezes on the connection of the power adapter

My 3 YO A200 (PSAF3A-08202D has developed a problem with starting.
I can start on battery power with WINDOWS VISTA BUSINESS (after 10 attempts, but freezes immediately when the power adapter is plugged in.)
Display sometimes boots wide-screen, but mostly freezes before windows welcome.

When running, the battery produces about 1 to 2 hours before a complete evacuation.
When executing a battery, computer freezes when I plug Charger AC/DC immediately and going with my A100 charger as an alternative.

Initial problem was a faulty hard drive and super hot air flow due to fluff the cooling block fan.
Tech replaced original 120G HDD with 500 G and reloaded at the factory. works well for 3 months, then started with the same problems so conclude original disk HARD was just a secondary issue.

So maybe fixed I overheated components on the motherboard. Reset of data cards initially fixed a problem starting but is gradually degraded.

Reading through the forums seems that there is a huge amount of these laptops with similar issues. Is this a design flaw, like my other Satellite A100 is solid as a rock. All forums, which suggests resetting the cpu is running slow or be disconnected seem to be temporary repairs. Boot in safe mode and reset the default settings have no effect.

A suggestion that a capacitor is at fault seems to be the fix is valid but which involves specialized tools is not available locally. Local agent of Harvey Norman for Toshiba are best part of unnecessary because they can send in Australia from Toshiba. Machine has been close to $2000 and is now worth Zip.

I am unable to do anything with this machine, as all the ways of upgrading or resetting calls for AC power available and running.

I'm about to do radical things and hope that this forum can enlighten us.

    Hi Mickaël

You might be right. It seems that the motherboard is affected.
Don't know why but higher temperature can still affect the internal parts.
The temperature may increase if cooling fans n t working correctly. For example dust or debris leads to a higher temperature because cooling air cannot circulate properly.

I have to clean my laptop's cooling grilles from time to time using a jet of compressed air. This allows to keep the temperature at the lower level.
Of course the internal temperature is not always a reason for portable computers hardware malfunction equipment can begin to malfunction as always in an other products too: TVs, cars, game consoles

I bought an extended warranty for my laptop, also for my LCD TV mercy always if a high-end product begin to malfunction and in the case of a warranty claim, the fault can be fixed free of charge.

  • Satellite A100 will not start

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite A100-151, which does not start.

A batery 11 times blink when I press the a/c power and nothing happens.
Before that, I pressed too many keys f1 - f12 because it has stopped responding and a blue screen (memory error in the kernel) appeared.

    I tried:
out/HDD, memory slot, battery and tried also reset with the AC button pressed without the battery.
Thanks in advance for any helpful advice.

    Best regards

As you know on this virtual path is not easy to say what the problem is here, but after reading your ad, I think there must be a problem with electronic control gear. It is placed on the motherboard.

Problem is that work around is quite limited and I can see what you have already tried all the logical steps to check if computer laptop will be able to start on a path.

I'm afraid it is worth noting that you can do except to communicate with the service of Toshiba and ask help from m.

  • Re: Satellite A100-410 cannot start Windows XP

    Hello

I have a Satellite A100-410 and I can't start over (in safe mode ok). When starting, it shows the XP screen and after 10 seconds, the screen goes black. We have re-installed XP but no use. We checked again and assume that something is wrong with the video card drivers.

So we checked for the last but no use. I can boot the laptop when the video card is uninstalled, so it takes to cause something weird.
Or could it be that the card is broken?

    Hello.

For sure your video card is ok, otherwise you may see white screen after switching on. The problem is in the driver problem. Have you downloaded the Toshiba site display driver?
Maybe there is a conflict of driver. This site http://downloads.guru3d.com/downloadget.php?id=1655&file=7&evp=c14f9f3787877ee f9ef4b235b9146e96 stage
Download and install. Then try to reinstall the display driver (if not work, do it in safe mode).

If she's not always you help, do a search for a new iso Windows Xp but not Windows assembly (some guys like to change windows, deleting and adding some files, and then load it. Most of these modified versions are bad).

That's all I can suggest now, sorry if does not work.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite A100-495 - Win7 show too high battery voltage

    Hello

    I upgraded my laptop old but reliable (A100-495) too Win7 X 64.
Now, I recognized that Win7 Manager energy shows that 67% remaining at full charged battery...
I checked with several energy programs - all expect a 15V for battery voltage.
But the A100 battery only have 10.8V.

This happens with 3 different batteries.
Does anyone else have this problem? No idea how to say that the battery has only 10.8V to Win7?
I tried to reinstall the drivers from the battery and ACPI - but it did not help.
Multiple load / uncharging also showed no change.
The best battery last for about 90 minutes, not too bad but battery starts already after 30 minutes...
Allows you to change the values of caution - a little - but even after to 0% it works for about 20 minutes...

    Any help appreciated ins

    concerning
    BR,

    > But the A100 battery only have 10.8V.
Looks like the battery nears the end
    How old is the battery?
Each battery would start to lose own performance after about 500 charge cycles.
    This should be considered.

  • Satellite A100-206 supervisor password problem

    Hello

We have a Satellite A100-206 at the office.

A colleague trying to protect the laptop set the user password in the bios.
I do not exactly know what she does but at startup is asked for a password.

Then she ask me to remove the password so I typed the password, management of the bios and clear the user password.
But it is, I also noticed that the supervisor password was already defined but not selectable (gray color).

In any case, I've saved and restart.
The problem is that now the OS start without asking for a password, but I can't enter the bios because it asks for a password and is not that of the colleague don't forget to have it fixed.

Why can't I get more into the bios of th as a user?
I also find the hwsetup in windows re set the password of the user as shown in the manual, but this software is not present.

    Best regards
    Diego

    Hello

I put t know which operating system you have, but I think that Akuma is right. If you start HWsetup you can also access the BIOS using this tool and remove or set a supervisor password.

You can remove the password in HWsetup?

  • Satellite A100-495 with extern Widescreen Display

    Hello!
A year ago I bought a Satelite A100-495 and now starting with photography I need a second display (external) to get a bigger view.

The problem I have is that the external screen didn't work the right way.

I just tried two widescreens 19 "(tout comme un test... va pour un 20" SyncMaster) but if I selected to widescreen solutions (16/10 like 1280 * 800pix wich is the hightest 16/10 to chosen at the moment on this laptop) the display shows just seen unclear (no clear edges)! "

solutions of 4/3 as 1920 * 1440 are appear as clear and cool as it should (both: standard and widescreen displays... only expanded on the big screen, but with clear edges)

Now the problem to slove is: I want to install a large screen with a solution of widescreen (16/10) and has an unobstructed view.

Anyone has a solution to slove this problem or even having the same problem?

    Thanks for the helpful answers!

The problem is that if the graphics driver doesn t supports the resolution of your screen favourite so you won't be able to choose and use!
What you could do is to update the graphics driver, but I can't give a guarantee it will help

  • Re: Satellite A350-20 q - started to freeze completely

    Howdy!

I ' v belonging to my laptop for about 2 months now and a few days ago, he started to freeze spontaneously. There seems to be no 1 reason for this.

It normally starts with a single application does not (internet explorer, microsoft word) and then just completely freezes so I have to reset it.

    Any suggestions please?
    Thanks in advance.

It's really hard to say what the reason for this.
You use the factory settings? I want to say did you install your own version of Windows, or is the image of Toshiba preinstalled on your laptop?

It could be a hardware or software problem and if you have the factory settings I recommend to check the RAM and HARD drive. This is why you can use Memtest86 and Drive Fitness Test. use Google to find the two programs, they are free and easy to use. Just download a CD image, burn it to a disc and start from it.
So, you can determine what the problem is.

In the worst cases, you must go to an authorized service provider to check your laptop.
I doubt that it s an overheating problem. The fan should work correctly because the laptop is only 2 months old you can hear the fan?

  • Satellite A100-920 - Audio driver problem - Win XP Pro

    Hi all

I'm having a problem with audio driver. I can't seem to find one that works anywhere, I looked at several forums and the Toshiba site for drivers without success. I basically hit a wall, so I hope someone can provide a working solution. :)

    Audio device:
Feature: 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller
    Manufacturer: Intel

(Information retrieved using a Ubuntu 9.04 Live CD)

Although a windows system it labels as "Realtek High Definition Audio Controller"? (I'm not an expert with the drivers, so maybe this is a stupid question...) :)

The computer is a Toshiba Satellite A100-920 (PSAA9E) Windows XP Professional.

I spent hours trying to solve this problem, so I hope this is the last mile. :) Thanks to anyone with suggestions.

  • Satellite A100-803 - Vista recovery problem

    Hello

I upgraded the RAM and HDD on a Satellite A100-803 and when I restore Windows Vista from the recovery disk process is going very well, but after restarting windows says that "Windows Setup could not set up Windows on this s material.

I think that the problem is listed here.
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/2466753/en-us.

But the problem is that I can't change the RAID setting in the BIOS, and during the installation of recovery, I'm not able to add the additional drivers needed.
The new drive is a WD 500 GB driver (WD5000BPVT)

How can I solve this problem?
    Thanks in advance
    Pau

    Hello

First I put t think its BIOS problem.
    The laptop doesn't support RAID.

I think the problem is the size of your new HARD drive. Upgrade of the disk HARD 500 GB and its larger than the original HARD drive equipped in A100.

The point is that a recovery disk automatically creates the partitions on the HARD disk, but due to the size of the disk HARD the size of the partitions would be different also.
I think that you won't have the same problems to install Vista or Win 7 using the Microsoft disk
