Satellite A105 - keyboard died after he hit lemonade

I'm trying to fix a laptop for a niece. History-typical lemonade spilled on the keyboard.

Symptoms-alpha keypad does not work on the internal keyboard. Combinations 'Fn' do with 'F1, F2 etc' media for media player buttons work. Windows button does not work. When the "alphanumeric" button, I get speakers beep.

Turns on when I plug in an external usb 'NUM Lock', but the keys don't work.

It is with Windows XP.

Tried solutions
uninstallation and reinstallation of keyboards
remove the internal keyboard (not tried replacing yet)
verification of updates of drivers and bios
Complete virus scan

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all

    Hello

The laptop goes to home Toshiba screen?
If yes there is no hardware malfunction but perhaps something wrong with the software.

You suggested that it of not possible to enter the BIOS. How have you tried to get into the BIOS?
As far as I know, this unit uses a Phoenix BIOS so you must press the F2 key immediately after switching on. Press the "F2" key several times to make sure that the option has been enabled.

The alternative to boot from the CD/DVD drive is using the C key. The same procedure here: press the C key immediately after starting the laptop.

    Help would be welcome please!

    Hey William,

That s odd, but in my opinion you should try a BIOS update. BIOS version latest for your laptop, you can download from the Toshiba page:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

But let me give you a little advice: update of the BIOS is always a bit risky so make sure that you are logged on as administrator. In addition, extract all the files from zip archive and close all programs running (also AntiVirus).

By the way: you use pre-installed Windows 7 in Toshiba or did you do your own installation of Windows?

  • keyboard died after a little water

My dv5 keyboard - 1044ca is not functional after any spill water on it. I have unplugged, and dismantled just after to let dry. Up to 24 hours later and the laptop works less the keyboard.  Device Manager indicates it is plugged into the port and works well. 0 keys work. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, updated the BIOS, but not luck. Any other suggestions? If I had to change the keyboard type exact same dv5 series (1044ca)?

I don't know how, but somehow I got lucky to have full function back to my keyboard, other than the arrow key to the left for the moment.  First the bottom half of the keys starting around noon and then all the rest (less the left arrow) came back only a few minutes ago.  I feel so relieved.

I have been informed that he needs a new motherboard and I find it hard to believe that it may be that the BIOS that has lost its data.

Can anyone help, we have been quoted £300 to fix?

    Hello

    You can try this workaround:
Remove the AC adapter and the battery and wait an hour. After that reconnect the adapter AC/DC and battery. Try to start the laptop and see what happens.

If it doesn t work you need assistance from an authorized service provider. Technicians can try to reflash the ROM module and in the worst cases, the motherboard needs to be replaced.

    SORRY FOR MY POOR EANGLISH

    Hello

It s a shame hear that mate!
It seems that something was wrong during the update of the BIOS, and so the laptop won't turn on.
I'm afraid that you can't do anything else as to contact the local ASP m!

The local ASP technician must check the device and possibly it might update the BIOS using a special BIOS and the special procedure.

    Good luck buddy

  • Satellite L500-1R1 died after copying files

    Hello

got laptop sisters who planted permanently in windows7 (still getting BSOD with various reasons, I tried the antivirus scan, uncheck etc. without effect msconfig startup items), so deciced to reinstall the OS.

Gets in safe mode by F8 (which worked only) copy the entire disk on my external USB drive, joke is when I'm home, screen was completely black (off), led on, then it off with power button / stop and now computer laptop does not start.
When I press the power button / power off, light is on, fan runs for 2 sec and nothing more. Battery charge normally, sometims it is also on hdd.

I tried everything found on google (30secs reset, remove the RAM sticks, remove the hard drive, remove the battery, connect an external monitor, etc.) and nothing helped.

What could go wrong? Its approx. 4years old, cmos will reset help and how?

    Thank you

    > cmos reset help
You mean to unplug or remove the CMOS battery?
No, I Don t think so

    > What could go wrong?
Hard to tell in your case I would insert new modules of RAM just to check if its RAM problem. You said that you removed the stick of RAM but I m not quite sure if its good enough for the test. I would test the unit with new modules of course, this is just an idea and no one would be able to say that this will fix the problem

But the fact is that there is a hardware problem and I guess it could be a motherboard problem if new RAM modules would not help you.

  • Re: Satellite A105 stops after 60 seconds (NOT a heat problem)

Satellite A105-s4344 stops after EXACTLY 60 seconds. The mobo was removed from bevels and all devices removed unnecessary (DVD, HDD, WiFI etc.). Swapped CPU and RAM with those well known. AC adapter / CC exchanged and battery by the well known. Does the same on the AC or DC inputs only.

I have not yet flashed the BIOS (at 60 seconds, that would be silly). But, I'm looking to replace or flashing with an EEPROM burner. Currently has V 2.0

I don't know what heat genration detection using this system, but it is a possible cause if it is one of the later generations (visit http://www.topbits.com/how-to-monitor-cpu-temperature.html if you don't know that I'm referring to).

Before reballing North and South of the bridge and flashing, I thought that I would get feedback from you folks. Just to cover all bases ;)

P.S. the first person to ask what OS I use will get an instant ticket to the bottom of my list of respect.

    > P.S. the first person to ask what OS I use will get an instant ticket to the bottom of my list of respect.
:) :) :) Best thing I've seen in this forum.

    Back to your problem.
I'm not a technician but this is just my opinion on all of this. The fact is that after your laptop on CPU switch in seconds only reaches very high temperatures. You can turn on your laptop and just enter the BIOS settings and the same should happen again.

I can't say for sure if it's 100% thermal or not question but what else can be responsible for decommissioning? CPU will be warm in just a few seconds. Significant change structure with temperature change and I can only imagine a contact will be interrupted.

On this forum, we have had many reports similar as when portable cold starts and works well, but after that little time is off without reason. Maybe I'm wrong, but to me it sounds like heat or deliver bad contacts. Let's see what other people have to say about it.

  • Error in device IO after installing Vista on Satellite A105-S334

    Need help please!
Recently, I did a full restore of my computer Toshiba Satellite laptop.
My computer came pre-installed with Windows XP Media Center edition.
I had upgraded to Windows Vista, which was one of the worst computer decisions I had made.

That's why... I did the full restore with the factory restore disk that came with my laptop.
Before restoring, my CD player worked fine.

Now all I get is an error message "the request cannot be performed because of an i/o device error."
When I put in the disc, I can hear it turn. I see even my mouse cursor will turn to a disc as if she was about to open the drive, but the error message.

I tried to reinstall the driver... no luck. I also tried to change IDE properties that don't seem to work either.

    Someone please help!
If it helps, I have a rug * drive his DVD Ram UJ - 841 S Satellite A105-S334. I can't boot any CD, however, if a disc contains a few documents, it will open up very well!

    Help, please.

Stand by. I'm a bit confused.
If I understand you right you can use the drive as a boot device and boot media is readable, but you cannot use the drive just under the operating system. Am I right about that?

Have you noticed this problem right after the clean install of OS? Did you remove some pre-installed software components? Did you install additional software for burning CD/DVD?

  • Satellite A105 freezes after loaded Windows xp

    I have a Satellite A105 - S4074.
The operating system loads then freezes.

I tried safe mode and ran the error checking and defragmentation. I tried the config sys and when the system is loaded, then freezes.
I have the week last to system load and have an internet connection. But it froze again the next day.

I can't get a consistent performance. I have windows xp media center. I've recently upgraded ram to 4 GB.
What are my options? I lost the original restore disks.

I'm ready to reformat the hard drive if necessary.

    > I recently upgraded ram to 4 GB.
Have you checked if the laptop would freeze using the old RAM modules?
If this isn't the case, then you should check this!

In many cases of bad, no compatible or defective modules could cause these issues

  • Identification of the model after repair on Satellite A105-s4011 of evil / PSAA8U-05400J

    Hello

My Notenook Toshiba Satellite A105-S4011 / PSAA8U-05400J is a repair under warranty by a Toshiba service partner. They changed the motherboard.
My problem is that when I tried to install driver VirtualSound, installation procedure fails with the message that my Toshiba laptop does not support VirtualSound.
PA-number is now a PSB10U-SA10ES1. The serial number is also like a standard: "12345678901234567" and not my real serial number. If I go to look for any driver, bios, or h.e. on basis of this rating, of course it is not properly entered.

My question is: How can I change the right rear DMI information?
    Thank you

    Hello

Unfortunately, you cannot reset the DMI information by yourself.
    You will need using ASP.
I just recommend to call the guys and try to explain the situation as a whole. I'm sure they will help you

I know, its tedious work, but there is really nothing to do.

    Good luck

  • Satellite A105-S2051 and XPSP3 - upgrade RAM and hot key error

    Merry Christmas together,
Please can some mention help: have Windows XP HOME SP3

    1. recently tried to improve my Satellite A105-S2051 950Mo to MAX 2 GB RAM. I have x 2 places available.
2 a RAM problem, pc would not even turn when the two new ram sticks have been installed.
    3. If x 1 old used module and x 1 new stick of ram, pc would not record even installed extra RAM? After discussion with the manufacturer recommended to also upgrade my old BIOS suppliers, I did it via the load - SAME support.
    4. then they recommend - sent back 4 RAM chip, they returned with the type of chip 8,.
    5. upon receipt, PC would not turn on once more if the two 1 GB installed? While could then install x 1 old + x 1 new, pc recognizes the additional ram 1 x, 1.36 GB memory stick.
    6. have you tried to load keyboard shortcuts available on download media files to find error - Toshiba ACPI common Modules (TVALD) missing?
8 tried to load files TVALD, to then find error - TVALZ DRIVER FAILED? aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh
Any help would be most appreciated, Please help!

    Kind regards

    Paul.

There is no reason to discuss on the RAM upgrade, because things are clear: RAM upgrade will be successful if you use only compatible modules and module 1 GB for your laptop with PA3411U-2M1G part number.

Use two of them, and everything will be OK.

    Back to WXP stuff.
Installation of WXP can be quite complicated as all things, especially specific tools Toshiba and public services must be installed in the correct order. Before you begin to install Toshiba stuff, you must install common modules. It is a fundamental tool, and it must be installed first. Problem is that we support for your laptop model page, I can't find common modules for download.

What you can try is to install from the European page. You can find it HERE. Check it out.

  • Satellite A105-S361: CD/DVD control buttons not working not

I am facing some problems with my cd/dvd control buttons on my satellite a105-s361 keyboard and I was wondering if there is no reason, I could find why this is so. If it's due to software or hardware problem.

    Please answer.

    Hello

To my knowledge the A105-S361 was designed for the U.S. market and so if it s a software issue you should look on the page of the Toshiba driver we.

I assume you mean the Toshiba control functionality of the buttons.
The utility is not configured or does not work. In this case I would say reinstall this tool and then after phone restart, you might try to install it again.

Note: Don't forget to check the options buttons in the control of Toshiba utility
