Satellite A25-S279: how to reinstall XP with Ghost DVD without disc internal

I have tosbhia satellite a25-s279 and toshiba dvd of ghost.
My internal dvd drive is broken (w / some difficult, it can play some audio cd of some of the time. it recognizes no cd-rom or dvd). I also have external pioneer dvd writer dvr-s606 (connect to the satellite via USB). I want to reinstall xp.

The Bios is 1.10, the chipset is ALi M1672 rev 0. You have the option to boot from HDD, floppy, CD-ROM, and LAN drive.
I think that you also have the option of bootin off pc card, but is not in the Bios.

It seems (from reading these forums) that my satellite does not support boot from the external drive, so I can't use the ghost disc?

I found another Web site, which suggests to make bootable USB drive and load xp from the memory stick.
However, read these forums, it seems, also, that's not possible with my satellite?

I suppose I can buy a replacement internal dvd drive, but these seem very unreliable, and I already have functioning external drive.

any other advice would be appreciated.
Thank you.

> It seems (from reading these forums) that my satellite does not support boot from the external drive, so I can't use the ghost disc?
That is right. The external USB CD/DVD drive is not bootable, and you will not be able to boot from the CD

> I found another website, suggesting to make bootable USB drive and load Xp from the memory stick
No, it is not possible to boot from the USB key. BIOS does not support this start option

I think the only way is to buy a hard drive taken in internal load and then boot from the CD.
You can also try to boot from the local network, but it's not easy and you will need a RIS server.
I think that this is not really a solution.

What is the appropriate way to restore a computer without a recovery cd? It has a XP code in the background, and that's all I have. The laptop is: A25-S279.

    Thank you.

Well... you have certainly a Win XP OS.
If you n t have the Toshiba Recovery CD then you can order it from the ASP in your country.

In other cases you can try to reinstall the OS Win since the original CD of Microsoft. Please note that the key which is placed at the bottom of the laptop doesn t work with other versions of Windows XP and the CDs.

Therefore, buy an original CD of Win XP.

Then you can download and reinstall the XP drivers from the Toshiba page us because this laptop is designed only for the American market.

What files should I edit to make it to load from the drive externally and if this isn't the solution, what do I do?

    Thanks in advance

    Hey Buddy,

Unfortunately I think that it of not possible to use the recovery with external CD/DVD drive disc. Therefore, place the internal for use the recovery disc.
You can get a new drive to an authorized service provider.

But if the original OS from Toshiba is installed, you can use the function of disk recovery HARD reinstall Windows as well. Go to the advanced boot menu (F8) and select Repair my computer :)

  • Satellite A25-S207: how to force the PXE boot?

    Hello

    I have a Satellite A25-S207 and a big problem!

I want to start my laptop using PXE to install Suse Linux. I already did 3 months ago. It worked perfectly, but at that time, I did start command configuration using the utility on Windows. I had to install Linux PXE, because my CD drive does not work.

Now, to complete my tragic situation, my HD failure! As long as my CD-ROM does not work, the only way I can at least try to bring my data partition is trying to reformat the system partition, install Suse and copy the data in my office. At least until I can buy another CD-ROM unit.

But how do I set the BIOS to boot from PXE without the utility of Windows? I know that by pressing the C key while booting, the CD-ROM startup is enabled, but does anyone know a similar option to choose the PXE boot?

I appreciate really have no idea!

    Thank you!!

    Best regards!

Now I have I already did once, since my CD-ROM combo is 'dead '.

If you press N immediately after laptop starting so the unit should be able to boot from the local network.
Also in the Toshiba HWSetup under tab BootPriority PXE network boot protocol must be selected.

Hello. I have problems with above mentioned laptop.

At startup it starts to load Vista Home Basic, and then after some time, he said: "x:... windows\system32\drvload.exe ', then goes to"the installed program cannot start. Click OK to turn off the computer.

When using F8 to choose one of the options listed, the same thing happens. When I want to "0" when starting to do factory reset nothing happens, when I use an ERD and try to rapair it said "...» Impossible to repair the installation, contact microsoft etc. ». Can't find it any restorepoints.

What are my options? I have no cd, only repair disk that I have dowloadet on the net. OS is legitimate and everything with it. I suspect that the sliver of recovery is intact on the HARD drive. I have access to the HARD disk via bootcd with various programs to repair.
    Suggestions?

    Hello

The recovery process is described here:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/HTD1303440001R01.htm

If the disk HARD recovery doesn't work, you will need to use the Toshiba recovery disc. Usually, this disc you must create yourself with pre-installed recovery disc creator. This is mentioned in the user manual, but you haven't read?

Fact is now it s too late to do this because Windows doesn't start anymore, but what you can do is to order a resumption of Toshiba directly:

Hello. There are three ways for you to reinstall Windows:

First of all. Plug your AC cable and shut down your laptop. Then he turns on again and press 0 (zero, not on the NUM pad). Wait for the recovery menu to appear and choose the necessary recovery options.

In the second place. While in Windows 7 click on "Start" and go to "Control Panel". Then choose "System and security"-> "Restore your computer to an earlier time"-> "of the advanced recovery methods'-> 'return your computer to the factory State '.

In the third place. Buy CD/DVD recovery for your Toshiba noteboook.

  • Satellite Pro U300 - how to reinstall the system from original Vista operating?

My Satellite U300 (bought in 2008) came with Vista and a fallback to option of XP pre-installed. I drove back to XP at the time. Now, end of support from Microsoft for XP, I would like to re - install the Vista operating system.
I have the recovery disks, but there is a wizard to help the resettlement?

Or is there a function to restore to original factory setting, which I guess would be Vista? (I backed up all my files where a clean install is required). Any help appreciated, thanks.

I checked the specifications of the laptop and this laptop model was offered with Vista preinstalled and DVD recovery Windows XP Home edition. In General original recovery image can be installed with the recovery disk. You got laptop with Vista pre-installed (without the Vista recovery disk) allowing you to create the Vista recovery disk using the preinstalled Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator.

There is also the option of HARD drive recovery, but it works with the factory only settings. After installing WXP that this HARD drive option will not work more then now you Vista recovery DVDs. Unfortunately in your ad I didn't understand whether or not you have the Vista recovery disk.

If so, just start your laptop and press F12. When the boot menu appears put Vista recovery disc into the optical disc drive, has chosen the CD/DVD on the list in the menu and press ENTER. ODD will start to read the recovery disc and all what you need to do is follow the menu on the screen.

  • Satellite L300D-13s - how can I restore with corrupted disk 2

    The laptop is a Satellite L300D-13 s.

I tried to restore the laptop using the restore discs, the first disc has worked well, but he did not recognize the second disk. No matter what I have I could not get to read this disc.

I then tried the F8 option of us to restore the drive, but I got the missing Bootmgr message. I tried F8 using the DVD, but it doesn't have a restore option.

Using the option to boot with a record I did access the E drive and discovers the HDDRecovery directory but not found something that would allow me to run a restore.

Y at - it an option to do a restore in this way, or can I restore another way?

Your help would be appreciated gratefully.

    Hello

Recovery procedure can be performed on two tracks:
    -Via recovery CD/DVD or
    -From the HDD recovery procedure

If there is problem with the created discs, then you should try to use the second option. It works as follows:
-Start your laptop and press F8 for Advanced Startup Options
-Here you will see the option to fix my computer
-Choose this option and follow the on-screen menu.
-Then, you will encounter the system recovery options
-The last option is the Toshiba recovery procedure. Select it and follow the on-screen menu.

Please note: this will work if you didn t change partition structure, installed OS clean or deleted the folder HDDRecovery.

At the end I have to say, if nothing helps, and if you are not able to install the OS by using one of these methods I see a solution only: you must order the new recovery DVDs.

  • We had Best Buy install a new motherboard and have now no Windows XP. How can reinstall us with no available disks?

We took our best Buy HP cleaan out and install a new motherboard, but now we must not be pulled up to Window XP and theyu advised us that we need to buy it again.  Is it possible to reinstall windows XP without buying the whole program again.

-What did they replace the motherboard with an identical?  If so, Windows XP may be able to run.  What happens when you try to start it?

Don't have they replaced the hard drive?  If this is not the case, there could be a recovery partition on the disk that you can use to install Windows XP.

Otherwise, contact the manufacturer of the computer for an installation disc.

You shouldn't buy a new copy of XP.  A computer repairman competent all these possibilities would discuss with you before starting the repair work.

  • How to reinstall vista, with no installation CD

I buy my laptop for 3 years, and now I have to reinstall my Windows Vista Home Premium.

But I don't have an installation CD, there at - it another way to reinstall my Windows

    Hello

Here are the different ways to reinstall Vista

Contact the computer manufacturer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

  • Satellite A25-S279 - RTC error, but F1 key does nothing.

    The error I get:

"RTC * battery is low or CMOS checksum is inconsistent."

    Press F1 to set Date/time. »

I have read many similar topics with the same problem, but with mine, I can't enter the BIOS if I press the F1 key. Is it normal when occurs the error above? I thought enter the BIOS was not dependent on the RTC battery. Currently, I have the laptop turned on and thinking of leaving at least 8 hours, as many people have said. However, having no answer by pressing the F1 key concerns me.

    Thank you.

    Hello

Please check you user manual. I put t know what chapter but check the battery info.
    The same mistake has been mentioned in my user manual and here the solution is very simple;
You must charge the battery of the CCF. This battery provides power to the motherboard.

You charge the battery for 12-18 hours. Leave the laptop connected to the power supply during this period.

To set the time and date, you need to access the BIOS. I think you click everything first ESC then F1 to access in the BIOS settings. Try it.

  • Satellite A25-S279 - Cant Boot From USB Drive

    Hello everyone. I'm new here.

Is there anyway that I can boot from a hard disk on the A25 USB? In any case to update the BIOS to give me the option to boot from USB hard drive?

I already went through the BIOS and used the HWsetup nothing helps.

I want to run Linux on a mini-usb HDD, I just picked up, but I can't seem to boot from the USB connection.

    Please let me know.

    Hello

You on the right, the BIOS supports a boot from the USB FDD.

The BIOS offers these startup options:
HDD, CD/DVD, LAN or USB FDD

  • Satellite Pro A210 - how to retrieve it with the recovery disk lost?

I had some problems with my individual Pro A210 (AMD Athlon 64 x 2, Vista, 120 GB of HDD, 2 GB of RAM), and it seems that I did the recovery disks when new and you have misplaced them.

    What can I do?

The hard disk should have a recovery Partition.

Try holding down the zero (0) key when you turn on the laptop, this should start the recovery process.

If this does not work, press F8 rapidly after the Toshiba start screen to enter in the Windows Start menu, where you can choose to run the recovery/restore.

  • Satellite A25-S279 - screen is too bright all of a sudden

I went to the MS site for cleartype fonts and fooled. I did not like the cleartype fonts, so I manually turn off in windows and internet explore.

However, something happened that is causing the entire screen to be very bright makes all the washed out colors. I plugged in the VGA output for a CRT monitor, and brightness/colors are there.

My keyboard has been broken for a while, so I use an external USB keyboard, which means that I can not access the FN key. I did to in in Windows display properties, but the sliders he for the Trident card which adjust brightness, saturation, and tint cannot be moved. Sound like they are there permenantly.

Also, I went into the Bios and made sure he was using the default settings.

Anything else I can try? Do not have the restore CD.

    Thank you.

Possibly there s nothing wrong with the brightness setting.
You said that you don't like the cleartype fonts and have disabled manually in windows and internet explore.
Perhaps this is a reason to deliver you

Have you tried to put the BONE to this early time?
I mean the point of time before you turn off cleartype fonts?

I think that you should do this to make sure that this option screen brightness doesn t affect.
