  I have a laptop satellite A60. I had a crash of the system due to problems of graphics card and had to reinstall windows xp pro etc...

  Now, I unplugged my USB2.0 hub to go sit somewhere else in the House. The day after that when I plugged in the rear hub, it gave an error code 28, saying that the software required to install the device is not found... And the hub does not work. Now, it's the same story with my sm-buscontroller...

  The hub has its own power suplly and I am running Windows XP Pro with SP2.

  I have what I think is the best laptop high-end of its kind, but one thing is greatly disturb me. Someone has messed up its combo player and I got a replacement, but it cannot be detected by the BIOS and I think its due to firmware issues.

  My question is this, is it a piece of software that can change the firmware to a new reader so that it will work on my computer? His model is A60-S166 system unit.

  Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

  Stefan is right. Each drive is not compatible with all units and the assignment of pins is the same. I assume you have no compatible drive.

  As you can read in many other threads the keys FN require value added Package and Flash Cards Support utility. These two tools can be downloaded from the official website of Toshiba:

  Install the package of added value in a first time, then the Flash Cards Support utility. After the installation of these two tools the FN keys will work as usual. :)

  I have the same opinion. Try to start the unit in safe mode and remove the display driver. Restart the device and install driver designed by Toshiba. If there is no success please write again.

• Satellite A60 - how to fix a female connector on the motherboard?

  I have a Satellite A60 which is since 2005. About 6 months ago the CPU fan started running all the time and recently, the computer began to fade.

  Thinking that it is ongoing overheating, I decided to completely disassemble the computer, clean it thoroughly, remove the old thermal paste and install one DIMM memory more important.

  Well, everything goes like clockwork, until I tried to put the connector of the power on switch in the plug. It wasn't easy so I put gently a little more pressure on the connector using tweezers. At this time, the socket broke apart from the motherboard.

  I don't have the tools for a welding job, but could a competent technician successfully reattach or is there a new mobo in my future.

  As far as I know the old Satellite A60 supports one IDE controller.
  This means that you must use a 2.5 IDE (ATA) HARD drive.
  As far as I know the older IDE controller are limited to 128 GB with 28-bit LBA (address logic bit).
  Then maybe you should start with a 120 GB HDD, which must be compatible, even if the controller would be limited to 128 GB.

  But standard ATA-6 (also called TONGA-100) does support 48 bit LBA in this case, it is not limited to 128 GB. You can check controller HARD drive using tools such as SANDRA or Everest Home Edition freeware soft for the information on the controller built in the A60.

  Perhaps the HARD disk controller support for only 28 bit LBA, which means that only 128 GB would be recognized by the BIOS.

  Hi I have a Satellite A60 and for some reason any CD/DVD player makes a terrible on some CDs and DVDs, but not on the other noise. It seems that the CD is rubbing on something, but not what it now makes noises with the CD I played for centuries. Ideas please

  There are two possibilities for this problem: -.

  1. the CDs themselves can be slightly distorted with slightly off-center hole, which makes the disc "wobble" that turns and can cause the noise you describe.

  2. the latch of blockage in your CD player can have worn insofar as it does not lock the CD in position correctly. This will also lead to a swing in the disc as it spins and the noise that accompanies it.

  Since you say that noise occurs on the disks you used previously, I guess that the second of the two options is the cause then before taking any additional action I recommend to check that the drive is not loose in its mounting in your notebook.

  Unfortunately, if all else fails, you may need to replace the drive.

  You can definitley upgrade your hard drive for a larger version. You should find that a 80 or 100 GB will work fine. You should make sure that you get you a new disc with the same physical characteristics as you existing. The following link will help you remove the hard drive.

  You can also get a new hard drive with a more rapid rotation speed (5400 RPM or 7200 RPM).

  I think that the maximum RAM for the A60 is 1.25 GB which includes 1 X fixed module (I presume yours is 256 MB, which means that you can install an additional module with a capacity up to 1 GB. Available in capacities of 256 MB, 512 MB and 1 GB of RAM modules.
