Satellite C660 - Diagnosis indicates a failure hard disk

Run the diagnostics on my two day old - Satellite C660 shows a failure on the hard drive. Check disk hard Windows ran without failure.

Can I assume that it is a false indication by diagnosis of Toshiba? The thread on this topic is not conclusive on this issue.

Thank you Fred

Hi frredi,

Diagnostic tool what you mean? It's the Toshiba Diagnostics tool that shows an error on the HARD disk?

If Yes, you must contact the seller of the laptop and ask for replacement laptop. Bad HARD drive sector you can still get but he s not recommendable to save important data in this regard.

So just give shop and take a new one. :)

  • Satellite C660 - 23 M Windows 7 hard disk error

I've only had my laptop (Satellite C660 - 23M) for three months, I started to have problems with him about a week earlier, including a time Blue Screen of Death, but I got the computer Safe Mode and did a system restored and it has been fine since then. Then earlier today, I had a Windows hard drive error, telling me to back-up and then repair or replace the hard drive. The back-up goes on an external hard drive as we speak, so fingers crosssed I can't stand to lose all my data.

I created a disk backup media when I got to the laptop but every time I tried with validation, it would fail, but in time, I don't think I should be so little time, just so created a non-validated copy and thought that would be nice (I'm now concerned!).

Should I restore my hard drive? If so, how? What has caused this? And because it is only 3 months old, am I stuck with a laptop to duff who will continue to break down on me?

    Hello

In your case, I would recommend to check the capacity of the HARD drive.
This can be done using the freeware tool called disk HARD Drive Fitness Utility.
I guess that this software can help detect HARD drive errors.

If the HARD drive would be affected, then you need to replace the HARD drive.
Here you will find a nice instruction how to do this:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/Ann.jspa?annID=138

the laptop seems to be covered by the warranty, if the HARD drive can be replaced under term average conditions, this can be done free of charge
I would recommend asking the ASP (partner in your country) for this HARD drive they could send you this HDD.

Everything seemed well forward. He explained he would be completely erase all data on the disk hard drive then I'm gone come with it until it crashed at 12% and said hit any key to continue when I did all this I had was a blank screen Toshiba. So do you have any ideas as to what the problem is and will be I need to replace his drive hard as the laptop is a little over a year old and has not been used much?

    Help me please anyone!

    Hello

I'm sorry to say, but I fear that your HARD drive will die soon. You must, as soon as possible, back up all important data and get the new HARD drive. The replacement is not so complicated and you can do it alone.

If you need assistance please let us know. There are a lot of people on this forum with a lot of experience and. You're not alone ;)!

  • PC Diagnostic in my Satellite C660 tool shows FAIL to HARD drive

He said nothing, I mean diagnostic tool Pc can can show result falsely and the drive works very well himself. In any case, backup all data in case of failure. You can also download the 3rd party program to test the State of the hard drive. (such as hard drive Inspector)

  • Satellite C660 is slow - drive 'failure '?

Hello Forum - I hope someone can help.

My children (PC) run a C660-IST (two years). I say "run" - the machine is going at a snail pace. Confession - their father always worked on Apple (I know, I know...) then i@m beating everywhere to try to help them. With success limited.

I found called 'Computer' and he said:

    Hard drives (3)

    WINDOWS (C :)) 81.3 GB free of 149 GB
    Data (:)) free d GB 148 141 GB
    Microsoft Office 2010 click-toRun (protected) (q)

I had thought that children had simply filled memory working with games (Sims and Zoo Tycoon), but - looking at the available memory which doesn't seem to be the case.

So I ran the program 'Diagnostic Tool'. Everything was going well... until he ran the 'HARD drive '. And he says 'FAIL' in the box 'results '.

It's that I could get. Not sure why the result of the 'FAIL' is here. Don't know what the children may have done to the machine.

    Two questions:

-"disc HARD FAILURE" would cause the machine so slow?

    and

-What can I do to try to solve the problem?

Please, be soft with any response - PC management is NOT my forte!

    Thank you very much

    Helpless dad

    > "disc HARD FAILURE" would cause the machine so slow?

Yes, a faulty HARD disk can be the reason for the performance of the slow laptop.

    > can I do to try to solve the problem?

There are some things that need to be clarified.
If its a drive problem HARD physics, the only real solution is: replacing the HARD drive.
If the problem is related to bad sectors and files stored on the HARD drive, the solution could be much easier:
First of all I recommend you clean the system using CCleaner (freeware software)
You could delete the stored time.
Additional you may defragment HARD drive partitions.
Here is a nice article from Microsoft:
    http://www.Microsoft.com/atwork/maintenance/speed.aspx#fBid=opdomAEomx0

But if you notice any improvements, you can format the HARD drive and install the system using the Toshiba recovery disc.

  • Satellite L850 - how to replace a HARD disk recovery partition?

    Hello.

Toshiba laptop Satellite L850. PSKDGA-02Y012. The original HARD drive has failed in his colleagues even mobile, so we replaced the two HARD drive after you have created a recovery USB. When used to restore the operating system to original status of OOB.
That has worked and portable runs much, but now I want to BACK the recovery partition (now only on the USB I think) for the new HARD drive.

Simple to shrink the disk HARD C: (partition 2) on the HARD disk, but then how to transfer twhats on the USB (USB recovery stick) back on the HARD drive?

    Thanks for any help.

    Karim...

    Hello karim

When you buy the notebook you will get it with preinstalled operating system (recovery image). Original recovery image is saved on the HARD disk on the recovery partition.
Each owner of the laptop has option to make the backup recovery image and create recovery media. It could be the DVD or USB support. You can do this by using preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator tool.
This tool will create bootable recovery media that can be used for the installation of original image recovery if there is problem with the installation of image disk HARD recovery or when the drive is defective and must be replaced.

Where the HARD drive is faulty and should be replaced or the owner of the laptop to upgrade HARD drive, you can install original image created using recovery recovery media (USB). After installing recovery image, you will have the same situation as for the first boot after the purchase of the laptop. With other words notebook will have factory settings again.

In this case original recovery image is already copied onto the new HARD drive and you will also be able to start the installation of HARD drive recovery. There is therefore no reason to copy a recovery on HARD drive media.
Please note: installation of HARD drive recovery works with the factory only settings.

If you have any other questions do not hesitate to ask.

    Good luck.

  • Satellite 3000-514 and put to hard disk

    Hello

I recently bought a new hard drive (Toshiba MK6026GAX, 60 GB) for my Satellite 3000 514. When I replace the old with the new hard drive is not recognized. The version of the BIOS is later (2,30 trad) from the side support Toshiba. Someone now how this could be fixed?

    Thank you
    Christian

    Hello

As Quad says no each HARD disk will be recognized because of the size.
You must contact the ASP for the drives supported. It has detailed information about the supported HARD drive sizes. But without a professional help s not possible to recognize the HARD drive.

  • Satellite A300 - how to use two hard disks?

My Satellite A300 came with two 200 GB hard drives (drives C and D). What is the best way to use the D drive? Now I have nothing about it. If drive C fills the computer automatically switches the D drive?

A basic question, I know, but the manual provides no information on this subject.

    Hey Dearborn,

    > If drive C fills the computer automatically switches the D drive?
No, D: drive will not be filled automatically.
When installing the program, you will be asked which drive they will be installed. So you can choose between C: and D: drive.

In general there are no rules the use of two hard disks. You can do what you want.
In my opinion the best is if you install all the programs on C: drive (first HARD drive) and save your private files such as photos, videos, documents, etc. on drive D: (second HARD drive). Its advantage is that if you need to reinstall Windows at all times, these files on the second HARD drive will not be deleted. ;)

  • Satellite M40 does not start from hard disk - read error

"I push the button - briefly see the In Touch with tomorrow TOSHIBA screen - then ' + a disk read error occurred press Ctrl Alt Del to restart +".

I control alt delete brings me briefly on the screen TOSHIBA where I can choose either F2 or F12.

Do I need a startup disk and where can I get one in order to boot from the CD ROM?
Do I try to get into the Satellite M40 product Recovery DVD-ROM - this concern for me as the hard drive will be reformatted and all data will be lost.

    I'm stuck please help!

    Hello!

If you enter the product recovery disc, Windows will be relocated and will be erasing all data on the HARD drive.

I think that your HARD drive is damaged. You can check this with the Drive Fitness Test. Here you can download:
    http://www.HitachiGST.com/HDD/support/download.htm#DFT
Download the CD image, burn it to a CD and boot from it. Then you can test the HARD drive.
On the same site is a user's guide if you want to know more.

By the way: you can save the data on the HARD drive, when you put it in a box external HARD disk. Then you can save the data on another PC, if the HARD drive is ok and have no errors.

    Good bye

  • Satellite A30: Replacement of RAM and HARD disk

I am about to replace the HARD drive in my Satellite A30 with a 100 GB one and update the RAM in both slots 1 & 2. Can someone give me a step by step guide to do this?
Also to clean the mouse buttons leave because they no longer work correctly

    Thank you very much

    Hi Andy,.

To replace the hard drive, you need to remove the F5 screw on the bottom of the laptop. This will allow the optical drive to slide toward the front of the laptop so that you can get on the hard drive.

Remove the four screws (2 on each side) that hold the hard disk, and then gently slide forward to disconnect its multi connector.

Remove the two metal (one on each side) of the old drive brackets and attach them to the new drive then carefully replace the new drive and drag it to the back of the laptop (be careful not to bend the pins).

Finally replace the optical drive and fix it with the screw (F5).

Remove the RAM modules is described in the manual of the A30 user but briefly it is to remove the screws holding the access plate on the bottom of the laptop, and then releasing the fasteners securing spring-loaded modules RAM, so that they can be angled to allow them to be removed from the location of connectors. The new modules can be inserted (they won't be back in a sense) and pushed into place until the fixing pins 'click '. It is very important that you take adequate and anti-static precautions before accessing RAM modules as they can easily be 'flashed' by a discharge of static electricity.

    Kind regards

  • Satellite C660 - compatibility between motherboard and hard drive internal

Hi, I have a problem with the compatibility between the internal (1 terabyte) hard drive and installing windows 7 pro.
I broke my old internal hard drive (320 GB) and I bought the new hd (1 tb), but during the installation it says that w7 cannot be installed on this new hard drive.

Can my pc motherboard (serial number: 3B071014k) support the new hard drive (serial number: wd10jpvx)?
and if the answer is 'yes', how can I make it work?

First of all the question has nothing to do with the motherboard and HARD drive compatibility.
If the HARD drive is visible in the BIOS (first page), the HARD drive is supported by the BIOS and HARD disk controller.
In the case where the drive HARD isn't recognized, you will need to replace this HARD drive with another. I guess the smaller size of the 2.5 SATA HDD THAT would be taken in charge (500 GB)

However, in case the HARD disk is visible in the BIOS, you should be able to install Windows 7.
Before starting the installation, you must format the HARD drive and should create the system partition.
For this procedure, I recommend to use some tools such as partitions for example: GParted
GParted is a freeware Linux tool.
You can create a bootable USB key in order to start the device using GParted:
    http://gparted.sourceforge.NET/LiveCD.php

Then, you should be able to format the HARD disk and create partitions.

  • Satellite A100-192: after Vista installation HARD disk capacity has decreased

I am a user of Satellite A100-192 with 120 GB hard drive. After I installed Vista Ultimate, I saw this total capacity of my hard drive completely passed to 92, 8 GB instead of 120 GB while it was XP.

What can be the problem? How can I reach the other capabilities of my hard drive?

    Hello

Vista needs and used 2 partitions. The second partition is not visible and it s necessary to Vista backup and restore functions.
Maybe you have verified that the size of the first partition (C) and didn't note the size of the second partition.

  • Satellite A200 - Question on RAM and HARD disk partitions

Maybe it's in the wrong section... I do not know.

I've never owned an OEM operating system and I do not understand why the HARD disk is partitioned, 90, 2, 90 (who thought of that?).

The thing is that I have to format and partition differently (since I dual boot Linux) and need to create a structure more like 40,40,100 or such. (100 in fat32, so data is available for both)

Now I wonder what data should I keep these readers. There is a folder called Toshiba on the C:\ drive that seems to have the drivers and such, some wallpapers and who knows what else. Then there's the WinRE called D: drive which has a kind of sdi and wim files.

Another question, if I buy the 2 GB that is listed in the compatible options for my laptop (A200 - 28 p)
    Link: [http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/individualOptions.do?service=UK&OPTION_ID=138301&t oshibaShop = true & SelCategorie = 4700]
It will match the 2 GB already in the laptop? It will void the warranty anyway?

    Hello

    > I've never owned an OEM operating system and I do not understand why the HARD disk is partitioned, 90, 2, 90 (who thought of that?).
I assume you are using Vista.
The 2 GB partition is a hidden partition which contains the data and the backup files in Vista. This partition will be automatically created during the installation of Vista.

    On the other partition 90GB.
Well, this partition (partition of data) can be used to store files such as photos, movies, personal documents, etc. it s always recommended to partition a large HDD in more partition. This improves performance because the OS can access files much faster.

Of course, you can change the size of the partitions. In Vista, you can change this in disk management.

    Regarding the upgrade of RAM;
The laptop seems to supports the Intel® PM965 chipset and it manages 4 GB of RAM. It seems that you could use a 2 GB of RAM in one slot.

    Welcome them

    Toshiba Satellite L550-113

At startup, I get a fault HARD drive reporting mini-message soon, and I am asked to by pressing F1 before will continue to Windows (Vista 32 bit).

The message of the Toshiba HDD application alert is as follows:

    Disk0
Your HARD drive is SMART failure to predict who monitors the HARD drive, operating status. Your HARD drive is facing a problem and CHIP controlling the software predicts that the HARD drive will fail. Toshiba strongly recommends that you create a backup for the data on your HARD drive. Contact an authorized service provider to check your drive and buy a new drive for replacement if necessary.

I ordered a new HARD drive to replace the failed HDD (can't be bothered p * ssing all with the support of the RMA and tech).

However, is it possible to repair the old HDD once it's been deleted? If I have the reformat, it would do anything, or is it more serious than that?

    Hello

What should do? Back up all your data as soon as possible. You have created recovery DVD?
If this is not the case, do. When you redeem your laptop HARD drive, you can use this recovery disc to install the operating system and have once again the factory settings.

What is with guarantee s notebook? I mean that if the warranty is still valid, you can request service Toshiba to replace HARD drive.
