Satellite C850 - suspected hard drive failure

I have a Toshiba C850 15.6 inch 750GB 8 GB. It's a little more than two years. At the start, it displays the automatic repair of message preparation followed quickly diagnose your PC. Eventualy followed in another message, C drive repair. This about 6 hours total (schedules for each message varies). After this, another message appears on a blue background indicating
your PC is not started correctly.
Tap on restart to reboot your PC which can sometimes solve the problem. Alternatively, you can press options to try other options to fix your PC

Each option translates the screen fading, but leaving the original message in the background for 2 hours or more
This happens even if you try to start in safe mode or recovery discs.

Please note I am very far from being a computer expert, but have family who may be able to help me while 200 miles away so maybe wait a while.

I got the same message of diagnostic Pc and it takes ages to complete. I don't really know why, but Windows 8 tends to have its problems, if that's what you have. Mine is over 2 years old and it might freeze or run slowly. In the end, I gave my laptop a slap and it ruined the entire hard drive. I just buy a new hard drive and try to figure out how to get Windows installed again. So basically if your computer is tempramental, I would back up data as soon as possible. This is the error that I did not do. Then think about buying a new hard drive.

I have a Satellite L300 age of 4 years (under Vista) who is suddenly suspended frequently.

Y at - it a diagnostic tool to specific hard drive from Toshiba that I could use?

Thank you for any advice and provided thoughts.

    > Is there a diagnostic tool to specific hard drive from Toshiba that I could use?

You can use another tool of diagnosis of HARD disk as disk HARD Drive Fitness Test.
This freeware tool that allows you to scan the HARD drive.

This software creates a diagnostic boot disk and you will need to boot from this drive to run the test.

    > Finally, when a hard drive fails, is it only specific physical areas that are illegible? or will gradually expand and worsen very quickly?

HARD drive problems are always difficult.
In most cases if the HARD drive crashes, you will be able to access files stored on the HARD drive.
But different COMPUTER experts would still be able to recover files lost with special tools. But in most cases, these rescue operations are expensive and cost a lot of money.

  • Re: Satellite C850 - replacement HARD drive dead, install OS

I have a Toshiba Satellite C850 with a completely dead hard drive. I have no Win 7 DVD but I don't have the product key.
Where should I go from here?

    Hello

If you have a valid key, you can download the iso file of Windows 7 from Microsoft.
This image file can be burned to a disc.
Then you can use this disk to install the Windows 7 and activate with valid key.

But be careful: If you mean the serial key which is located at the bottom of the device, you would know that those keys cannot be used for activation of Win 7. Its key OEM belonging to Toshiba preinstalled image. I guess that it will not work.

    Hello

Here you can get all the details on the standard warranty Toshiba ENCO.
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/innovation/generic/services_standard_warranty_eu/

All laptops are covered by the EMEA limited workshop of at least 1 year
Do you read the terms of this warranty where I found this:

+ This warranty is applicable only in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa) and can be run from any +.
+ Countries EMEA where Toshiba or its Service providers allowed provide warranty service to the terms and conditions provided for in this warranty. +

Unfortunately, I think you need an ASP of Dubai or other countries ÉMAÉ one helps :(

Otherwise, you can replace the HARD drive on your own. It is not very complicated.
You can do it yourself. Buy cheap a SATA HDD and replace it

  • Re: Satellite L650D SMART HARD drive failure, backup fails when only half

    Hello

I have a laptop L650D. I get the following error message
    "Disk0.
Your HARD drive has failed to predict INTELLIGENT works what monitors HARD drive operating status. Your HARD drive is facing a problem and SMARRT monitoring software predicts that the HARD drive will fail. Toshiba strongly recommends that you create a backup for the data on your HARD drive. Contact an authorized service provider to check your drive and buy a new drive for replacement if necessary. »
It then gives me the option to make a back-up.
I tried two times to make this backup and twice it almost 50% of fact and then it says there no :(
It only gives me the option to backup DVD drive, the ability to use another drive is grayed out and cannot be selected (I have a 1 TB drive external DRIVE connected via USB)

I always use the laptop, there not having yet. I copied all the pictures, documents and emails from my external HARD drive it will not be too devastating if it falls.

    Any suggestions?

I am trying to locate my receipt, because I think that's only a little more than 12 months since I bought it. Not sure if I can argue to get the HARD drive replaced under warranty, as it should last longer than what he has.

    Thanks in advance

If I understand you well you want to backup using Windows Backup and Restore option system, right? I put t really know if there is any sense to do this if the HARD drive is probably faulty.
What you need is the backup of your personal data.

My suggestion: buy external HARD drive, connect it to your laptop and copy all the important things on that external data. When you have a new HARD drive in your laptop, you need to install the new OS so I put t think you need this Windows backup.

  • Satellite A210 - 1 4 - possible signs of a hard drive failure

    Hello

I use a Toshiba Satellite A210 - 1 4 and think that the hard drive may be showing signs of failure.

    _The symptoms are: _

    * While the Windows 7 boot frequently stops at 'Starting Windows' screen (before the Windows logo appeared) and all HARD drive activity stops meaning a hard reset is necessary to bring him back.

    * When I unplug the power cord on Windows 7, the computer freezes usually with nothing happens and stop any HARD drive activity, once again a hard reset is required to bring back to life.

What are these early signs of HARD drive failure or is there something else wrong?

    Hey Buddy,

For me it doesn t look like the HARD drive malfunction if Windows 7 stops when starting or freezes when you unplug the AC adapter

Have you already tried to reinstall the operating system? It could be the software problem.

If you still want to check your drive HARD uses a disk HARD Drive Fitness Test as a diagnostic tool. It s freeware so you can find it if you search on Google.

  • Satellite Pro P200 - Smart error "imminent hard drive failure".

Hello! I wonder if someone can help me.

Start the computer, the other day the S.M.A.R.T diagnostic program came suddenly on saying a "hard drive failure may be imminent," when I open the Intel Matrix Storage console, it says that the hard drive in port 0 has had a S.M.A.R.T event recorded against him but that of port. 2 is 'normal '.

Port 0 is the volume of the operating system on it and if so what would be the best way to back up the disk and what someone knows how to change the hard drive and how much approximately would this cost?

    Thanks for any help inadvance.
    Paul.

    Hello!

In my opinion, you should back up all the data as quickly as possible. In the worst case you could HARD drive might completely die and then you are not able to save the data on it.

After that you should swap the HARD drive. It s depending on the model of HARD drive you buy how much it will cost but drives hard are not so dear to our days. I think that it will be possible to get one for 50 Euros.

    Good bye

  • Satellite C855-1GQ - warning of hard drive failure

    Hello

Suddenly my laptop started to show me "hard drive failure warnings" and honestly, I have no idea what it takes to this topic please someone can help me.

Symptom: The PredictFailure flag is set on the disk
Cause: A logical disk has the failure to predict SMART bit set.
Details: This disc is facing a problem and predicted that the drive will fail

    Symptom: failure
Cause: A device reported 'Not OK' status.
Details: The device, hard drive, reports a value of bad condition. This device won't be available until the problem is resolved. The Plug and Play ID for this device is \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE0.

My advice is to make data backup and contact the nearest Toshiba service as soon as possible. They can help you with it. Warranty is valid also if they want to replace the HARD drive it will be free of charge.

  • Satellite L655D-011-HDD/SSD Alert, HARD drive failure?

I have an old L655D-011 of 6 months and yesterday it started to appear with the message to back up my files because there is a problem with my HARD drive. Well, after having a technical support in the past, I don't give that easily and simply run my laptop to the nearest authorized service center. Instead, I help out.

I did the BIOS update finally. No change in question.
Finally had time to create a recovery media. No problem with that at all.
I reformatted. No change in question.
Checked the health monitor. It shows that my HARD drive is "good". Yet, when I double-click the icon, I get a pop - up with the following message:

    "Toshiba HDD/SSD Alert."

    Disk0

Your HARD drive is SMART failure to predict which monitors the status of operation of the HARD drive. Your HARD drive is facing a problem and CHIP controlling the software predicts that the HARD drive will fail. Toshiba strongly recommends that you create a back-up to the date of your HARD drive. Contact an authorized service provider to check your drive and buy a new replacement if necessary. »

So, after that I decided to run a CHKDSK /f /r. Result: 'windows replaced bad clusters in file name \hiberfil.sys 44990.'

I should be good to go, right? N ° same problem with the precaution of backing up my files.

But this isn't good, is it? If my HARD drive is about to fail why monitor health show that everything is "good"? There is no problem with gel, pxe.boot errors, rattling disc, unusual vibrations or read/write failures.

So, my questions (after all the above and see other threads to ask questions about HARD drive failure messages) are: were there any known issues where the SMART software does not work correctly? Are failure drives hard all from the same manufacturer (I've seen this happen - get a bad batch of a single manufacturer HARD drive)? The health monitor working correctly?

In my opinion your questions cannot be answered simply.
    > Are there any known issues where the SMART software does not work correctly?
How many people must confirm that they have the same problem? I guess this happens from time to time, but you cannot say that this problem is known.
You will always find people who noticed the same issue and not on Toshiba forum only, but on all the forums where people discuss cell phones in general.
    > Is the disk failure hard all from the same manufacturer (I've seen this happen - get a bad batch of a single manufacturer HARD drive)?
How to check or confirm this?

You know, during the first backup all your important data, watch carefully what happens the next few days. If the info appears again and again, contact the nearest service Toshiba and let them Exchange the HARD drive.
The guarantee is valid and it will be free of charge.

  • Satellite l350-262 HARD drive failed on the first reboot

    Hi guys,.

I just bought new satellite L350-262 of amazon.co.uk
It was delivered today so I started to put in place. It started fine, let me regional selection and networking options, and then it restarted and...
I saw console message saying "a disk read error occurred...". "that indicates a failure of the HARD drive.

I restarted and went into the BIOS settings and it appears on the first page of the BIOS that he does not see the drive (can recognize the DVD), but on the priority start screen TOSHIBA (and some) against the HARD drive.

This problem occurred after the first reboot Windows 7 installation is forcing you to do, I didn't have the chance to create backups, and I can't see windows being installed at all, cause I can't do F8-> recovery which I thought to try as well.

I think return the laptop it does not work, but before that... you have other ideas?

Is it worth to make diagnosis of disk? Even if it says disk is ok, how I reinstall/install the system preloaded with no disk backup etc.?

    Thank you
    Greg

    > I think return the laptop it does not work, but before that... you have other ideas?
I'm afraid, if the disk HARD is not recognized in the BIOS, that means HARD drive failure and you will not be able to recover it with the help and recovery disk or using recovery disc HARD m.
It s really strange that a HARD drive is dead at first, but what looks like a bad luck, this can happen, because it s a machine

Usually the HARD drive is under warranty as the entire notebook then you can request a hotfix and warranty would cover everything

    Welcome them

  • hard drive failure

I recently tried to upgrade to el capitan in yosemite. He failed during the installation process, and now, whenever I boot my mac need me in disk utility. I can't erase, restore, Mount/unmount my osx partition. I took it to the store, they checked, and it was the hard drive failure. IM wondering how I can run windows on it. I can boot into window normally and everthing worked.

    MacBook pro early 2011

Windows is located on its own partition, and if your Mac partition is damaged in any way it is not part of the windows installation.

If an authorized service apple tells you to replace the drive, you will need to back up your windows partition with something else than Time Machine, if it's not an a separate physical disk.

  • Pavilion g6-1118TX: reported hard drive failure

    Hello people of the community.

Recently, I get a message indicating an imminent hard drive failure during startup. I just wanted to know how I can solve the problem and how to buy a hard drive and the same difficulty. The issue seems to affect the cranking up the speed of the laptop. I would be grateful if you can give an approximate value of your new hard drive and the different options available (eg.1TB, 750GB etc.) for PAVILION g6-1118TX model number. Also suggest would be interesting to buy a new hard drive and move or search for improving the system of newer models.

Waiting for your reply at the earliest.

    Hi @ra1791!

I'm sorry to say this, but such errors are indicating that the drive is about to fail, then the best option in this case will be to replace it with another unit. If the product is still under warranty, you can contact support, but in case you have no guarantee and you would like a guide to replacing the hard drive you can you take a look at the manual page, user 46:

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c02834221

    Compatible spare disks are also.

I hope this helps and good luck!

  • HP Pavilion Slimline S5: Internal HARD drive failure, PC does not start

Drive HARD internal of my HP Pavilion Slimline S5 failed and died recently (bought in 2011). My HP warranty is long gone.

The splash screen has shown this message:

1720-SMART hard detects an imminent failure

Due to lack of player: SATA0

    Failed attributes: # 05

I have several questions about this:

    1. Is it only caused by HARD drive failure? I want to replace it myself, but I don't really know if there are other parts to replace. Or it will be better to bring it to the computer shop to do carefully check?
    2. I can replace it with Seagate Barracuda 3.5 "(7200 RPM, 1 TB, SATA 3 or 6)? I think that the current HARD drive is Hitachi.
    3. I still need to transfer Windows OEM once the HARD drive is replaced?

    Thanks in advance.

According to the packing of the Seagate, it might come with the software.  But if it is OEM drive then found the software by clicking HERE.  In general, I use a USB adapter for hard drive to clone if the PC will not support an additional drive.  Given that a number of incomplete model for the PC, it is difficult to find accurate info, but the Pavilion Slimline S5 I checked all have a motherboard with additional SATA ports.  Just have a spare SATA cable and power on the power port and try the cloning software.  Make sure that the drive is not touch a conductive element.  Usually, I place the additional reader on a cardboard box.

Install the new drive as a replacement for the existing drive and connect everything as it is now.  Then connect the old drive in the manner discussed.  Boot from the CD created with cloning tools.  If the old drive is cloned stll, then when the software is finished, remove the old drive connections to see if the drive can start the computer.  If this is not successful, try to run the recovery screen (F11) BIOS boot manager.  If that does not work, use the Recovery DVD set brand when the computer was new.  If you did this, or lost them, then see THATto order a series.
