Satellite L100 113 - Linux distribution has recommended

Hello

I tried to install Linux on this machine several times, and each time finished with an installation that will not work.
Any recommendations?

Hello

Your message is perhaps not very clearly explain the problem.
You say that the distro "does not work". What is this?

Looking at the model, it seems a bit limited in material resources:

1.6 MHz Celeron
256 MB OF RAM.

With this material, you must agree to use a fairly basic desktop computer (no Gnome or KDE) but rather XFCE, LXDE or maybe even more basic.
Take a look at Distrowatch dot com to see all the big (which means MUCH) distributions.
They are not listed in 'heavy' how they are, but you can look around to see what looks interesting.

I have found some that you can try:

Tiny core
Macpup
Maybe the OS Watt

Please understand that even a light distro / Office will need memory for some applications.
Stripping so down to suit your 256 MB will be for sure means that some of the easy functions are exchanged for less memory hungry versions.
Example - many offices Gnome uses the network manager to connect to any conceivable network (WLAN, LAN, 3G...)
However, as network manager could be to eager memory of leaner distributions, you may face a situation were any network connection local will be a manual task that requires some expertise.

If I misunderstood your message, please specify!

See you soon

Tom

  • Satellite L100-113. Keyboard is dead

    Hello
    I recently acquired a portable Satellite L100-113.
I'm having some problems with it, but the most fundamental is that the keyboard is dead: no response from it either.
It does not start, so it is clearly not a windows problem, and an external keyboard works ok.
The obvious answer is to replace the keyboard, but given the other problems, I wanted to be sure that the fault and not only a symptom before I have throw too much money at it.
Furthermore, I don't really see how it disconnects (I don't like to force it unless I don't know.

    Any tips or suggestions?

    Thank you.

I think it is question of s keyboard theoretically it could also be a cable to lose (connection) between the keyboard and the motherboard, but I put t see any reasons why the cable should jump
So maybe it s keyboard problem and it seems that a replacement could help you.

  • Satellite L100 113 does not start after upgrading memory

    Hello.

Our Integrator bring to our company KVR800D2S5, but laptop memory modules does not start :(

I read manual - this laptop supports 533 PC4200 memory modules.

But SO-DIMM 533 MHz will be delivered in one month...

The memory modules, we can install to Toshiba L100-113?

    Thank you.

    Hello

I think that the laptop does not power upward because of a barrette memory faulty or not fully compatible.

Please visit this memory 3rd party:

    [Memory for Toshiba Satellite L100 113 | http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=22360&ft=m&st=3]

As you can see Satellite L100 113 memory can be upgraded up to 2 GB (2 x 1 GB) and you must use the DDR2 533 MHz (PC2-4200) 200 - PIN SODIMM

  • Satellite L100 113 starts slowly after upgrade memory

    Hello

Toshiba Satellite L100 113 PSLA3E-02401JRU starts slowly after upgrade memory with Kingston KTT533D2-512 (512 MB) of memory.
When I press the 'power' button, it flashes, starts the fans and HARD drive several times. Then it shows BIOS start messages by memory full 768 MB and starts Windows XP without a problem.
This behavior is noticed only after "shut down."
It does not happen with "restart".
What can I do to eliminate this long "attempts" to start my laptop computer?

    Thank you
    Novomir Kovalenko

    Hello

This problem appears before upgrade memory?
Have you used exactly the same memory modules?
If this isn't the case, then perhaps there are a few compatibility issues.

Usually, after the insertion of the modules you must enter the BIOS and then save the settings. Please it and eventually the laptop will start without any problems.

  • Need drivers for Win98 for Satellite L100 113

Hello peaples! I need drivers for L100-113 for MS Windows 98... Thank you!

Unfortunately, you will find not all original Toshiba for Win98 drivers for this device.
I have goggled autour and it seems that this laptop has been delivered only with Win XP and that is why drivers are not available.
In addition, the Win98 is a very old operating system and Satellite L100 is designed several months ago. No one is using the Win98 on this laptop. Everyone wants to install the new Vista ;)
I n t want to dash your hopes, but I don t think that Toshiba will create the Win98 drivers for this laptop.

What you can do is to check the net for different drivers that might be compatible with devices portable single... good luck

  • Missing keystrokes on the Satellite L100 - 113 PLA3

Completely wiped the hard drive and use the recovery disc and... same problem. The keyboard refuses to accept about 10 to 30% of what I type.

External keyboard gives the same results. The problem is sometimes better than others, but it seems to be more problematic. Computer is practically useless.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Again, I wiped the hard drive and it seems to be no difference in performance.

    Help please?

  • Satellite L100 113 - BIOS without keyboard change

My keyboard does not work. The easy answer for the moment would be to use a USB keyboard, except that the option is disabled in the BIOS.

Is it possible to change or reset the BIOS without keyboard?

    Hello

Try to start the Windows operating system and start assistance of Toshiba.
You will find the HWSetup Toshiba. This tool contains options that could be changed in the BIOS also.

So I think that there could be an option that allows the USB keyboard support.
I think that this should be possible using the USB mouse.

  • Satellite L100 113 - HARD drive upgrade

I want to convert the disc on the laptop 60 GB to 250 GB.
If it is possible?, flat main (motherboard) some limitations to disk?
Plan to buy Samsung 250 GB 2.5 '7200 obr, SATA, 16 MB.

    Thank for the answer.

    Hello

Yes, I think you should be able to upgrade the HARD drive since the SATA HDD controller is not limited to any size you should be able to use the 250 GB HARD drive.

250 GB, 2.5 ", 7200 obr, SATA, 16 MB is pretty and expected functions.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite L100 113 - seems to have rather spicy

This machine seems rather hot. However, I do not know how hot it is supposed to get.

I had a utility on another machine that indicates the temperature of the CPU and other pieces.
That is available for this one?

    Hi Hairyloon,

I noticed the same thing on my laptop that it s gets hotter after awhile, but it seems to be a normal behavior because the dust blocks the fan in Notepad. Therefore, you will need to clean your laptop using the jet of compressed air to blow the dust from the cooling fans.

In the FAQ section in the forum, I found a good article how to proceed:

  • Satellite L30-113 does not recognize the two modules DIMM RAM

    Hello

    I have a Toshiba laptop Satellite L30 113.
It has 512 MB of RAM and therefore struggled to run Windows Vista, so I bought another 1 GB of RAM.
    It's DDR2 553 MHZ (PC4200.

The problem I have is that the laptop does not recognize both DIMMs, i.e. the old 512 MB and the new 1 GB when they are in the whole PC. I tried the two DIMM individually in both slots and there is no problem, but when I install both the system sees just 1 GB. I tried the DIMMs around two ways but without success.

    Did I miss something?
They should be the same size as in the bad old days?
    What is going on?

    Thank you

    Adam

    > I tried the two DIMM individually in both slots and there is no problem, but when I install both the system sees just 1 GB
Seems that the two RAM modules are not completely compatible...
I've read several times on these issues and to be honest it s are not uncommon

I advise you to buy two identical RAM modules ad then to try again

I'm afraid there is no other solution for your problem of m.

  • Satellite M70 - 113 monitor is blind on Linux

I have a problem with linux on my toshiba m70-113. I installed suse 10.0, which is recommended for this laptop and when it starts monitor going blind.
    What can I do?
Maybe I should install some other linux? If yes than that?

    Hello

The fact is that Toshiba doesn't support any Linux OS.
I put t know why the monitor goes blind under Linux, but it would be very interesting to know if this problem appears also under Windows XP.
You need to use the Toshiba recovery CD to recover the laptop.

But if you also want to use Linux I would recommend using Knoppix. You n t need to install this Linux distribution. This can be boot from the live cd. The best thing is that you n t need to remove or disable the Windows operating system.

  • Satellite L100 112 of the bios language and core issue.

    Hi people!

    I have a satellite l100-112. (brief model number: psla3e)
I updated my bios to the latest version, that I found on the toshiba site. v: 3.20
Its specification states that its language is: "universal" :)
Well, actually it is japanease. So now I have a working bios, but I'm not convinced :)
Unfortunately, I did not save the backup image of the bios. Can you tell me where to find an English bios or an older bios?

    The other thing is:
I use debian etch os. I wanted to compile a new kernel, but I need a more detailed specification of equipment or a configuration of kernel source to do, because I don't know the exact of the ide controller type.

If someone can help me, please do! :)

    I thank you,
    Eddy

    Hello

First as you probably don t know, Toshiba doesn't support the other operating systems like Microsoft Windows. This means that, also, the BIOS has been configured only for the use of Windows and not Linux.
Secondly, as far as I know Toshiba public doesn't any BIOS details (source of the kernel configuration, etc.).

    > don t know the exact type of the IDE controller.
The L100 doesn't support IDE controller but a SATA controller ;)

  • Satellite L100-179 sometimes short, sometimes does not

    Hello.

My Satellite L100-179 is around the age of 9 months. A month after buying it is quite dead. Returned, and they replaced the card mother and keyboard. 4 months ago it does the same thing, but I left it for a day and she starts without a problem.

Same thing happened this morning. Totally dead, so I disconnected and removed the battery. He tried again, but nothing helps. Then I put the battery and the socket and left for 20 minutes. It has sprung to life again.

What happens here? Someone had the same problem? What is the cause for this? Maybe a faulty motherboard? The warranty runs out in 3 months so I would like to know if this is a major flaw.

    See you soon.

    Hello

    > What's happening here? Someone had the same problem? What is the cause for this? Maybe a faulty motherboard?

Believe me, we can only speculate on the fault.
But I'm sure that this is certainly not normal behavior and I definitely recommend the service guys asking for additional verification.

Who knows what will happen in the next time. Maybe the laptop no longer starts? I this would not risk and would take the warranty!

    Best regards
