Satellite L15-S104: upgrade HDD 40 GB

I have a Satellite L15-s104 laptop I want to improve the stock 40 Gig drive to a 120 GB 5400 RPM 8 Meg Cache hard disk my question is how can I delete the old harddrive. I need step by step instructions. Also is my portable drive an ATA-6 or ATA - 100

Thanks in advance for your help.

If I remember correctly the HARD disc cover is placed on the side near the battery low, fixed with 3 screws. Remove them and disconnect the connector HARD drive mounting. HARD drive is placed in the HARD drive module and also fixed (4 screws).

I hope you experience laptop disassembly and instructions how to do this and protect the equipment during the disassembly procedure. If this isn't the case, please be careful. Some stupid error will clear the guarantee if it is still valid.

    Hello

Your laptop HARD drive is IDE (ATA-6). I don't really know what is the maximum capacity of the disc HARD can be used on your laptop, but I assume that 80 or even 100 GB should not be a problem.

Unfortunately there is no public document on this subject. Hardware upgrade is not directly supported by Toshiba and this will be done by authorized service partners. Try to contact them. They should know for sure if you can use 120 GB HARD drive.

In the lower corner, you will find the HARD drive cover fixed with two screws. Remove this cover. You will see him removing the drive is pretty easy. Disconnect the connector HARD drive mounting (out).

After having done that, you should remove 6 screws that attach the HARD drive bracket and remove the HARD drive bracket.

  • Re: Instructions to open a Z930 satellite and the upgrade of the SSD

    Hi guys,.

I was wondering if there is a service manual to show me, or if anyone knows from experience, how to open a Satellite Z930 and upgrade the SSD. I know that this will cause the nullity of my warranty but I do not like; Toshiba MobileCare won't have anything to do with it and I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for something that I could do it myself if I knew how to remove the back cover!

I removed all the screws from the bottom, but coverage won't come again libere‑moi seems to be stuck at the rear left. I guess there is another screw under the keyboard or something... any help would be very appreciated! :)

I agree with Akuma, Satellite and Portégé Z930 models are equipped with a type mSATA "Solid State Drive (SSD)" instead of a hard drive and sizes compatible mSATA are 128/256 GB

  • Satellite L15 the screen has a red/pink tint

When I turn on my toshiba Satellite L15 the screen has a red/pink tint and then 2 minutes later it is fine until the next time I turn on the computer it's screen it self or the inverter?

    Hello

Not easy to tell if it s screen or FL inverter question.
FL Inverter control the backlight of the screen and usually if the FL inverter start problems, then you can see photos on the screen as behind a thick fog.
Then maybe he problem s screen but that's just a guess.

However, FL inverter is not very expensive, but the laptop screen is one of the expensive laptop parts so I m not sure if it is s to replace the screen and pay 200-300 Euros for the fix

  • Satellite Pro A100-830 - HDD upgrade questions

I'm a complete noob so please forgive my silly question!

I would like to replace my laptop HARD drive, is there any combatibilty issues I should be aware of, or is it just a case of getting a HARD drive 2.5 "?

Is it easy to buy an external and use the internal drive inside the case?

This seems to be the best way to the value of doing. Specific recommendations?
    Thank you!

    Hi magicmat,

Generally upgrade the HARD drive is not complicated, and that's why you only have to remove the cover of the HARD drive on the lower side of your laptop to replace the HARD drive.

Satellite Pro A100 already use hard disks with SATA interface so you have such a HARD drive. In addition, I would recommend a 5400 RPM model because it s quite fast and doesn t a lot of power.

So that s what you need to know about upgrading. Theoretically, you can use the old or an external HDD with an external HARD drive enclosure. Also no problem. :)

  • Satellite L30-134 - after HDD upgrade PC freezes and won't start

    Hello
I upgraded my Satellite L30-134 of the standard 60 GB HDD for a new 120 GB. After that, I have the following problem:

    (1) after installing XP form to the recovery House DVDs works fine but after that 2-3 weeks of normal use it instantly freeze pc and after hard reboot the OP start up can do anything but to format the HARD drive. After that format cannot install original XP and Vista, the progress bar show me that the installation is complete but after reboot, nothing happens. This problem persists long wery. After 3-4 clean up one after another the pc starts and runs very well about 3 weeks. What is the problem? Any idea?

    (2) when I first install Vista or Linux PC is runing fine, but not in normal parameters. Always freeze but after hard reset works fine for about 2-3 days. When I install XP first that the PC is useles after hard reboot the only thing I can do is to format the HARD drive and do a clean install.

PS: The HARD disk is produced Original Toshiba.

    Hello

This strange boyfriend s but to me it sounds like that, these problems are caused from the new HARD drive that may be defective.

I think you should test the HDD using Hitachi Drive Fitness Test:
    http://www.HitachiGST.com/HDD/support/download.htm#DFT
With the Drive Fitness Test, you can test your HARD drive. Download the CD image, burn it to a CD and boot from it. You can then the HARD drive test.
On the same site is a user's guide if you want to know more.

Good luck and give us feedback, what happened! :)

  • Opportunities to upgrade HDD for Satellite L30-113

I hope someone can help me on this one. I was wondering what are the possibilities for the upgrade of the disk on a Satellite L30-113. As the largest size of support etc. Or even if it's possible (I don't know much when it comes to upgrading laptops).

If it is possible to upgrade to a larger size HARD drive what should be and what would be the process to upgrade as well as if there is a limit on the maximum size, etc.?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

Each laptop BIOS supports a HARD drive size limitation and therefore, you can only use a HARD drive formats supported.

I used the L30 for a long time and to my knowledge, you could use the 40 GB, 60 GB and 80 GB hard drives for sure. Perhaps that the 100 GB HARD drive might work but I m not 100% sure and can not recommend this size of HARD drive.

However, these hard drives must be compatible:
    Toshiba 40 GB - MK4032GSX
    60 GB - MK6034GSX
    80GB - MK8032GSX

  • Re: Satellite P300-150 and HDD upgrade

Hi, my wife Laptop(P300-150) has developed a tick unit HDD1 - I would like to replace this 250 GB drive with other, larger capacity HARD drive. So my question is twofold

    (1) what is the maximum size of disk HARD of this laptop can tolerate? -500 GB?
    (2) does it matter if I buy a SATA - II - when the original disc in a SATA drive?

    Thanks in advance
    IMM

Unfortunately there is no document where you can find this info on the maximum capacity of the HARD drive that can be used with the Satellite P300 but I m 100% sure you can use 500 GB on Satellite P300.

I don't know if your laptop has a SATA II controller but, as far as I know, SATA II is backward compatible and I think you can use it on your laptop, but it runs with SATA that access speed.

Upgrade disk SATA I HARD and you will be happy with it.

  • Satellite M30-106: the search for upgrading HDD and DVD recorder

    Hello

I was looking for some information about the compatibility of this laptop with new hard disks, but could not find. The reader, I want to buy is PMR Hitachi 5K 160 160 GB.

Second in line for the upgrade is burner DVD-R x 2 which is painfully slow. There is a kind of game of simple checks to do before buy you to avoid buying the incompatible equipment? I know that there should be a list of compatible readers in the manual of my laptop, but there is not, and I believe that records of such a list would be a minor if no improvement at all.

Thanks in advance for any help provided.

You want to use the 160 GB HARD drive?
I m not 100% sure but, in my opinion, the BIOS will not recognize this size of HARD drive.
I found this similar thread on the 160 GB HARD drive:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=13584&MessageID=49616

Michael of the user has provided a nice info:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=19153&MessageID=70008
The M30 accept the 80 GB and possibly a 100 GB HARD drive

I discovered that the Toshiba SD-R6112, TEAC G8CC00013210, Matsu * a G8CC00019210 are compatible with your laptop.
Maybe you could googel for simple numbers and you will find more information

    Hello

What do you mean with HDD "cap"? That means the ability? :)
If Yes, then the 8 GB are not "max" If you know what I mean. I Don t know which drives are compatible, but there are fitting surely more keen readers of 8 GB in this machine.

    Information welcome.

    Conradus

Hmm, the problem is that Toshiba provides official information on disk sizes HARD compatible MAX I didn t find anything on the page of Toshiba.

To my knowledge, the 30 GB HARD disk, size 40 or 60 GB will work 100%, but I don't know about m 80 GB HARD drive.

I think that you should just look at it and if you have more details please post again.

  • HDD Satellite M70-337 upgrade

    Hello
I need to buy 100 GB SATA HDD.

I want to buy a toshiba but can't find 100 GB online in the uk-only 80 or 120GB.i read somewhere that 120 GB may be too big for my laptop. I found a few 100 GB hitachi. Hitachi is as good as toshiba or worse or better?

I need HDD SATA, BUT I also found good hard drives SATA 150 and SATA-300-i don't know what that means are they the same as SATA? are good put in my equium m70-337?

    Hello

All this HARD disk standards are a bit confusing.
The SATA-300 HARD drive is known as SATAII and SATA-150 is called SATA I.

Please read this article on vs SATA SATA II

You need a HARD 5400 RPM with SATA interface drive. I put t know if the 100GB HDD will take place because of the limitation of the BIOS, but you can try it.
As far as I know a 40 GB, 60 GB and 80 GB HDD s should for sure of the work
