Satellite Pro A100-830 - HDD upgrade questions

I'm a complete noob so please forgive my silly question!

I would like to replace my laptop HARD drive, is there any combatibilty issues I should be aware of, or is it just a case of getting a HARD drive 2.5 "?

Is it easy to buy an external and use the internal drive inside the case?

This seems to be the best way to the value of doing. Specific recommendations?
Thank you!

Hi magicmat,

Generally upgrade the HARD drive is not complicated, and that's why you only have to remove the cover of the HARD drive on the lower side of your laptop to replace the HARD drive.

Satellite Pro A100 already use hard disks with SATA interface so you have such a HARD drive. In addition, I would recommend a 5400 RPM model because it s quite fast and doesn t a lot of power.

So that s what you need to know about upgrading. Theoretically, you can use the old or an external HDD with an external HARD drive enclosure. Also no problem. :)

I have a Satellite Pro A100-830 and I bought the maximum memory for what is 2x2gb, for a total of 4 GB in my world. When I put the DIMMs in themselves in a slot, the BIOS reports 2 GB. BIOS Bravo! When I put both together, I see only 3 GB in the bios!

I found this link on the Crucial site. http://www.crucial.com/kb/answer.asp?QID=4251

Suggest page files, peripherals etc. occupy memory on your system at startup, before the operating system is used I guess. If you do not have the maximum memory installed, you should see the total memory. If you got the maximum memory installed, you will not see the memory used by page etc. files. Why would it be? Why you would see 2 GB if you have only 2 GB but then see 3 GB if you have 4 GB due to the system!

Anyone can shed some light on this subject and be eligible or reject the information in this link. I need to replace the memory and/or the pc?

    Thank you

    Mark

This is not a BIOS problem but a Windows.
    I found this info:
Windows XP Professional 32-bit is limited to 4 GB of address space. If you have 4 GB of RAM installed, it won't show 4 GB in Windows. You will probably get what the size of your pagefile subtracted the 4 GB.

Some of this address space is reserved for the hardware and the operating system... so you will never have access to the 4 GB maximum in any case. If you want access to 4 GB of RAM +... your best solution is to pick up XP Pro 64 - bit... but this will only work if your CPU P4 has EMT64. (64-bit)
You can also try to turn on DEP if it is not already enabled... This will also allow EAP that can give you access to all 4 GB

    So finally a response:
    > Do I need to replace the memory and/or the pc
-> No, everything is ok... you need not to change the hardware

  • Need best driver of ATI X 1600 for Satellite Pro A100-830

    Hey

I use my Satellite Pro A100-830 (PSAACE-00W002EN) for the most part to play my games, but unfortunately I can't. It seems that Toshiba doesn't provide good enough graph-drivers because every time I play, for example: half-life 2, I get this error specefied: internal driver error in IDirect3ddevice9::present()

I tried to reinstall my computer all with CD distribution which followed with my PC, but this work of t is not a long time. I also tried to download than the latest ATI drivers, but they can not be installed, nor OmegaDrivers (Installable but didn t work).
I use Windows XP and I have all the updates of 'Windows Update'...
Just when I reinstalled my computer, I downloaded all Windows, then the most recent BIOS updates, and after that, I deleted the ATI driver that was limited to the CD and installed the ATI driver 'later' of Toshibas own homepage.
(Not only Steam-games doesn t work, almost none of my games...)

Please help me on these "desperate times." Would be happy if you could write the answer directly to my email address:

    Hello

To be honest, you are not alone in this and many laptop users want to have better performance and play the latest games which can be played with the latest and newest materials. If you have a portable way but want to have maximum on graphics performance.

Sorry but I think you wait a little too long. We are talking not on desktop computers and notebooks. As a player, you understand without doubt that high-performance graphic has a result a lot of heat, and it can be very dangerous for the portable equipment (placed on the square). Using the most recent and better display drivers will require you probably to a graphics card to work under pressure but the result may be overheating or even damage the material.

Be reasonable and understand that laptops have lower graphics performance and laptop manufacturer has only one priority: to protect the equipment. Because of this there not much updated graphics card drivers.

I don't really know what games you try to play, but I tested my old M70 (also ATI) graphics card with several games (not later) and it runs good.

    Bye and good luck!

  • Satellite Pro A100 - PSAAAE CPU upgrade

    Hi Toshiba,

I have an old * Satellite Pro A100 * _PSAAAE-type_ and I would like to upgrade the processor. I have seen that is 479, and I found that there are the Core 2 Duo on this plug. The 945GM chipset supports Core 2 Duo, but I don't know if my laptop BIOS supports these CPU.

    Someone can confirm or not?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

In General, upgrading the CPU is not recommended.
Of course, you can use the processors that are supported by the chipset, but the BIOS compatibility is another story. No one can tell if your laptop would be stable after this upgrade due to the higher heat dissipation.

But I read in this forum that some guys have upgraded the processor and the laptop still works

  • Satellite Pro A100 - HARD drive upgrade

Hi, I have a Satellite Pro A100 with a FUJITSU MHV206OBH HD, he has been faithful and worked for at least three consecutive years, now my HD is filled with data from software etc. etc. I just changed the memory and upgraded to 2 Gygs and really the A100 is now as fast as my Dell XPS. I love my Satellite and want to install a new larger drive,
Has anyone in the forum upgraded to a larger HD, advice, any recommendation of HD, where can I find the service manual for this.

    Best regards

    Thor Hedderich

    Hello

In General, all satellites/Satellite Pro should have SATA hard drives and upgrade is not problematic. You can do this alone.
If your laptop's 60 GB HARD drive only you can improve even with 120 GB or 160 GB.
These hard drives are so cheap.

    Is that enough for you?
Replacement is easy to do and you don't need manuals.

The low side is set with a cover of HARD drive screw. On the disc lid HARD is placed also for computer laptop (one of the 4).
    -Remove the HARD drive cover
-Remove the HARD drive pack by pulling on the cushion of the battery, following the direction of the arrows
-Place the pack HARD drive on a flat surface (such as a desk) and remove the two cushions

I guess you know now how to put a new.

  • Satellite A100-386 - HDD upgrade question

Hello everyone and happy new year.

First of all, sorry for my bad English.

I bought a Satellite A100-386 a few years and I'm really happy, but my hard drive has failed.
So, I wanted to know if I could put a 2.5 "SATA II disk, like this.

    http://www.materiel.NET/Disque-Dur/Hitachi-Travelstar-5k500-b-s-ATA-II-250-go-8-mo-48900.html

because when I see the characteristics of the satellite, they mention a hard drive with only S - ATA.
    Y at - it compatibility?

    Thank you answer :)

    Bye bye

    Hello

Yes, I think that this should be possible.
The A100 supports hard drives SATA controller, and theoretically, you can use any HARD SATA 2.5 drive.

    Welcome them

I think that it should be possible because the laptop supports the disk HARD 2.5 SATA.
Therefore, you can use almost all hard drives SATA 2.5.

  • Satellite Pro A100-830 - clean install of Windows 7

I want to install a new larger HARD drive in my machine and want to try Windows 7 while keeping XP Pro on the old HDD (just in case).

All the world did this on this machine?

Were there a driver or compatibility problems?

The machine is certified "Vista Capable" so must deal with Win7 if the drivers are not a problem.

You can install Windows 7 on this laptop.
It shouldn't be a big problem.
IF you miss a few drivers, then you can search for these drivers manually.

This is an interesting and enjoyable instruction how to find drivers if you have an unknown device in Device Manager:

  • Satellite Pro L20-PSL25E - CPU upgrade question

    Hello

I upgraded the ram last year and im running high-performance for my model, 2.0 GB.

This really helped for awhile, but after a few heavy programs have been installed this year (only one software, one game) ive noticed it running slow as before, its worth noting that my computer has adopted all the necessary specifications for both outside the game where im working on 1.7 ghz and it needs the least 2.0 ghz processor , and I'm short on speed slowest peformance of the game itself.

The vehicle has currently a centrino pentium, keeping in mind a new portable computer is not in my budget, is it worth getting a new processor and which would be best?

    Thanks again, Rebecca.

    Hello

My personal opinion is that Satellite L20 is not designed for heavy operations and is certainly not game machine. If you compare the price of Satellite and Satellite L laptops you'll understand why. I'm sure that this laptop is designed for Internet, office and simple every day activities.

Upgrading RAM is very good and I'm sure it helps a lot but CPU upgrade is not the solution. Update CPU is not supported. You must also understand that each hardware platform is designed for optimal physical activity. Processor, graphics, cooling system and other hardware components must work without overheating and harmonic. Stronger CPU means more heat.

In my opinion you should optimize operating system preinstalled software hoping you use will work better and more stable.

  • Satellite Pro A100-830 - can only use 3 GB of RAM under Windows 7 64-bit

    Hello

I just upgraded my laptop Windows 7 Ultimate x 64 and also improved my ram to 4GB (2x2GB)

Windows is to see all 4 GB but says only 3 GB is usable, because it is a 64-bit version of Windows wouldn't be able to use all the 4 GB?

    Any help appreciated

    Thank you

    Laptop specs

    Intel Core2Duo T7200 2.0 GHz
    RAM DDR2 677 MHz 4 GB
    ATI Radeon Mobility X 1600
    120 GB HD

    Hello

Have you already checked the BIOS? How much RAM show the BIOS?
And what kind of modules you have exactly?

Normally, it should be possible to use full 4 GB of RAM on a 64 bit OS as your laptop also supports 4 GB.

Maybe you should also try updating the chipset driver. You can find it on the Toshiba site.

  • Can Satellite Pro A100-830 - I install Windows 7?

I could just do a clean install of WIndows 7 from this laptop?
Should I do something funny with the drivers or bios?

    Thank you

    Hello

You would be able to install Windows 7 without a doubt
But you might get a few tiny problems with the installation of the driver.
Why because drivers Win7 was did not this series of laptop.
But this should not be a reason to not install the Win 7 OS.

In most cases the Win 7 find drivers automatically, but you need to find some drivers

  • Satellite Pro A100 - can I exchange the CPU?

    Hello world

I have a Satellite Pro A100-198 with a core duo processor. I would like to replace the processor of a Satellite Pro A100 830, which is Core2Duo in the Pro A100-198. They both have the same chipset-expected-they be any problem with that? This would increase the clock speed of 1.66 GHz to 2.0 GHz. They all have two Intel 945 PM Express chipset.

I just upgraded from XP to Windows 7 32 bit and the performance score is 3.4. My BIOS version is 1.9 and I see there is an upgrade to win all the version 6, but I can't find the BIOS version history - it is better to upgrade. For the moment, I'll see if there are problems.

    Thanks in advance Mick

    Hi Mick,

As far as I know the two books belongs to the PSAACE series. Can you confirm this? You can find this information on the underside of the laptop.

Normally if the books belong to the same series, it should be possible to exchange the CPU. They use the same hardware, so you can exchange.

But don t forget this isn't supported CPU upgrade. If you have the warranty you will lose it. Other s CPU are pre-tested not on your laptop.

  • Satellite Pro A100 and load problems

    Hello everyone. New Member here.

Got a huge problem with my laptop. I have a satellite pro A100-830. Part number: PSAACE-00W002EN. About 2 years ago

I can run on the current system. But it will not work on battery. I just bought a new battery and it shows on the computer.
    I get indications are:

    battery charge amber lit.
    Light on power
Power meter indicates the battery charge. I connected new battery and it shows 47% and now 3 hours later its still 47%
If I unplug the power to the computer shuts down and will not work on battery.

the AC light seems to be slightly duller than the one next to him, if that makes sense.

Ive tried updating the BIOS etc but I'm ideas if im honest as im not a computer pro. I searched the internet but I can't find an answer

    Huge thanks in advance

    Stand by.
    We need more explanation here.

You have the same problem with the battery and you have bought one new in the hope that everything will be OK?
Have you noticed the same problem with the battery?
    You bought original Toshiba battery?

In my view BIOS update won't help you much. I think electronic power is responsible for this BIOS update ahs no influence on this.

  • Cannot use wireless LAN with my Satellite Pro A100

    Toshiba Satellite Pro A100-830
    NETGEAR DG834G

Can not use the Wi - Fi connection. When you use "Free Config" to find peripheral wireless the popup "this connection is controlled by other software. I don't know what that means and what software controls the connection. I have other laptop which is duly connected by wireless. I'm ok with wired connection.

I don't know much about the technical aspects and therefore ask for help so any reader can.
    Thank you
    Kris

    > Can't use the Wi - Fi connection. When you use "Free Config" to find peripheral wireless the popup "this connection is controlled by other software.

You may not use the ConfigFree for configuring Wlan but own Vista configuration options or the WLan configuration tool like Atheros Clint Utility or Intel ProSet utility. It depends on the WLan card which utility can be used.
Card Intel-> Intel ProSet utility; Card Atheros WLan-> Atheros Clint Utility

I guess the message + this connection is controlled by other software + appears because one of the above options controls the WLan.

  • Question about upgrading RAM on Satellite Pro A100

    Hi all

I have a Satellite Pro A100 PSAACE I want to upgrade. I currently have 1 GB of RAM in two 512 MB modules. I looked on Crucial.com and he says I need DDR2 PC2 4200 module (240 pin DIMM), but of course, they want to sell their own stuff that only comes in 1 GB modules.
So, what is the maximum amount of RAM my computer can take? I would like to have more than 2 GB in order to make my page file smaller. Is 2 GB maximum I can put in?

To be honest, I read several threads where people were not so happy with the RAMs from crucial. In my opinion, you should spend your laptop with 2 x 1 GB RAM. With 2 GB of RAM, your laptop will work fine and I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

As recommendable modules, you must use either 1 GB (PA3411U-2M1G) or module recommended by Kingston.
