Satellite L500 - 1-7 - FAN runs at 50%

Recently, I noticed that the fan of my new laptop Toshiba Satellite (Windows 7 64 bit, Pentium T4300) is constantly running at about 50% (according to the Toshiba PC Health Monitor), even if there are 0% CPU usage.

Is this normal?
Or do I have to change some settings in the BIOS or something?

I also believe that this effect has started after a BIOS updated by Toshiba released a few days ago...

Thanks in advance

Hello

The default settings in the BIOS load after the update?

In addition, you can adjust the cooling method in Windows Power Options. Here, you can set the cooling method for each power, e.g. the maximum performance or battery optimized profile. I recommend you to choose the battery optimized cooling method, it s enough in my opinion and the laptop is quieter.
Check this box!

Good bye

  • Satellite L500 14 X - Fan switches do not properly under Fedora 12

    Hello people,
I seem to have the same kind of problems with the fans of speed on my recently purchased Toshiba Satellite L500 14 X and Fedora 12
The fan turns slowly until the processor gets 37 degrees. Then it runs at maximum speed, and never slowed until the reboot.

I updated the BIOS to 1.60

Now, in the Ubuntu 9.10 on the same notebook it WORKS CORRECTLY. When the CPU is hot on 37 or more senior degrees it starts to spin faster and when CPU back to 34 degrees, the fan slows down and works almost noiselessly!

I tried all the options of the kernel: acpi.power_nocheck = 1, acpi = off, acpi_osi = 'Windows 2006', and so on — nothing has really changed.
I tried different Fedora kernels, include 2.6.32 - nope...
I tried to find a reason why it works under Ubuntu and does not work in Fedora 12... But have yet to find something fishy... And I think that the problem is somewhere in the kernel.
The main difference I see is that on fedora 12 I can not install the proprietary ATI driver, who normally installs on Ubuntu 9.10. It is because of the xorg version in Fedora 12 and seems that we must wait for the next version of the ATI drivers.

One last thing - in Fedora 12 notebook became hot very quickly and without reasons of course.
In Ubuntu, it's not so fast and requires CPU load with something serious.

I don't want Fedora to Ubuntu, just because of this problem of FAN (nothing personal :))) so I need to get this working in Fedora 12)

Maybe someone faced the same thing?
    Any help much appreciated! :)

    Hey!

I found the solution. Incredible, but the index is ATI owner driver. As I mentioned previously, the Fedora 12 version of the ati 9.11 driver cannot be installed due to the latest version of xorg.
I reinstalled my toshiba with Fedora 11, install the driver from ati.com ATI and here us are :) now fans are working properly!

  • Satellite Pro A120 - cooling fan runs constantly

    Hello

Bought a satellite pro A120 "Intel centrino duo" in January and for the last two weeks, the fan runs continuously. Even when the cold portable OS, it runs complete but even just word processing or done yesterday it runs very hot. I need to access the fan to have a look for dust etc but I couldn't for access!

If anyone knows how that would be great. Either that or somebody can suggest any way to stop the laptop gets so hot. I tried on mode low power - without change, and it also works on different surfaces, but no change.

Any help much appreciated. Thank you

    Hello Dougie

In my opinion you should not do much and check anything because your laptop is new and under warranty. If something is suspicious to you, please contact your dealer local or much better is to contact directly the authorized services.

Explain the situation and let it check your laptop.

  • Satellite M30X-129: CPU fan runs constantly after new XP Pro re - install

I just installed a new Samsung 120 GB drive in my M30X-129, an upgrade of the 60 GB IBM drive with what it was originally provided.

Tried ghost XP Home installation of the old drive to the new - but it didn't work for some reason, installation, attached to a page with the "Windows XP" logo on it...

So, I installed XP Pro with SP2 from scratch on the new drive.

After having done that, I then installed the Toshiba and utils drivers listed for your laptop:

    NES http://UK.Computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=UK&mode=allMachi & action = search & teddProduct = 555

The problem I have is that the fan runs at full speed all the time - this isn't the case with the old installation of XP (was rare for it to come on at all when slowed down in the office - running full bore 100% of the time)

Research by and try a few suggestions:

-J' installed the common Utils from Toshiba
-J' installed the Toshieba power management - and set the fan speed to ' Silent' has ', but that doesn't seem to have any effect.

Any suggestions? for example. where I get the latest versions of the applications?

The noise of the fan slowly leads me to the top of the wall...

    Ben.

    Hello Ben

If you have installed your own OS and Toshiba designed drivers, tools and utilities, I assume that this problem cannot be software. I'm really not 100% sure why the fan always runs at full speed but Satellite M30X is around 2 years and I guess it's time to clean up. The second thing can be your new HARD drive.
It is also possible that new HARD drive produce more heat and sensors to register it and don t stop the cooling fan.

I recommend you to professionally cleaned the unit and remove any dust inside the unit. I'm pretty sure that cooling fan does not work at all times.

Also try to put the laptop into a slightly higher position (if possible at the back) and on this brand more interspace between the bureau and the cooling grill fan in the lower corner of your laptop.

  • Satellite C660 - 23 M - fan runs loudly every 5 seconds

    Hi all

I bought my first PC Toshiba laptop * 3 days * ago and until this am pleasure other than the cooling fan runs loudly every * seconds * 5 for heaters * 13 seconds *.

Even my old laptop has never done this in their entire years of use, I feel that something must be wrong.

Is the laptop faulty? and I would stay there until the failure is caused and my warranty runs out?

Or y at - it an easy fix? (fingers crossed)

I use the laptop for a fairly long period of time but do it on a carpet of cooling at all times which is not help.

    Thank you very much
    Adam

Try it please change the settings of cooling method.

Open the power settings for the management of the power supply you are using > change advanced power settings > Toshiba Power Saver Settings > cooling method > change two optimized battery options.

It should reduce the activity of fan cooling.

    Please send comments.

  • Satellite R830-182 - cooling fan runs constantly

    Hello

I just bought the R830-182. The fan runs at 100% of the time, from that moment I start. Is it true, that I expect the fan on a laptop to kick when the CPU reaches a certain temperature? It's annoying because it's quite noisy. Also try running the laptop at the lowest possible power - no software no open, WIFI turned off, the management of the standby power battery, the screen brightness turned down etc nothing works.

Someone out there with the same model knows if it is a problem or simply how this laptop it is supposed to work?

Try it please change settings option method of cooling. You can find it in power advanced options for the management of the power supply you use.
Assign the Please optimized battery option. It should reduce the activity of fan cooling.

  • S50 satellite - B 15 P - Fans running at high speed and system crash

    Hello

I have a new SATELLITE S50 - B 15, i7-5500U, 8 GB Ram, SSD etc., IV and v have some problems with it.

for unknown reasons the CPU fan starts to operate at high speed, even if the temperature of the CPU hit is not 35%.
It also froze about 10 times since I got it (April this year).

The only way to make it work again would be me to hold the power button down until stop and start it back up.
Once launched upward there is no mention of potential problems in the newspapers of events other than the forced closure.

I just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced problems?

    Thank you

    Chris

The only way to make it work again would be me to hold the power button down until stop and start it back up.

Forcing order restores the fan activity and performance?
Hmm it sounds like there must be some sort of system emits probably the bottom of some process locks the CPU and therefore increases the activity of the fan.

You could start the the Task Manager and in the process tab, you will find all background applications that would appeal to the CPU.
Click the CPU column to display all the processes of loading the CPU.

However, you can also try to change the option of cooling method that is available in Windows Advanced Power options.
Go to control panel → power options.
Click here on the power plan that is currently in use.
Then click on advanced power options and access the cooling method.
Here you can change it from active to passive.

In addition, you can decrease the status of CPU max at 90-05%

  • Satellite L650-1GF - cooling fan runs every 3 minutes

Last week, I bought a Satellite L650-1GF. Everything is fine except the noise from the cooling fan. Especially because it works almost every minute to cool the carrots. There is an annoying sound hum which takes about 10 seconds and is repeated every 3 minutes approximately.

I checked with "Speedfan". The temperature of the hearts is fluctuating between 32 and 37 C. And at about 37 ° C, the fan speed to cool the computer.

    Two questions:
1 is this normal that the cooling fan starts cooling to 37 ° c.
    2. is the annoying noise of the fan normal for this model of Toshiba?

And what is acceptable, can I find examples to compare with what I feel here somewhere? I saw a lot of cell phones so far, but none of the cooling fans made a buzzing sound like this.

    Kind regards

    Jaco

    Hello

Have you ever tried to change the method of maximum Performance to optimised battery cooling?

You can do this in Windows power management, but make sure you do this for the current profile of the power.

  • On my Satellite P100-347 cooling fan runs all the time

    Hello

I think I might have a problem with the fan on my Satellite P100-347. He seems to be constantly works constantly and is much stronger than when I bought the computer. Initially he just spent and if so, I think that this could now be wrong.
    Help, please.

    Hi Beata

I agree with the suggestions of Sanremo; He s I don't known how old your laptop has but from time to time it of necessary to clean the cooling fans. Dust and debris inside the laptop could prevent the cooling modules work properly!
The fresh air flow is also very important. Don't forget that there is enough free space around the laptop. Do not use the laptop on the lap or in the bed. In this case the laptop cannot be cooled in the right way and the high temperature can damage parts such as GPU to the Board of Directors.

But if you think that there is a serious hardware problem you must contact the service provider authorized in your country.

Good luck and greetings to Poland ;)

  • Can I order Win7 64 bit for Satellite L500-19Z recovery disk?

I have a portable Satellite L500-19Z that was running a 64-bit version of Windows.
Due to a problem, I had to reinstall Windows. The disc that came with the laptop was produced Recovery Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit. Not realizing the implications of the re-setup using this

Now, I'm done with a 32-bit operating system, which means that I can use only 3 GB of my 4 GB of RAM. Can I get a recovery disk for the 64 bit version of Windows? I created, when I got to the laptop, a repair for my 64-bit system disc, but, of course, if I try to use it he said, rightly, that I do not have a compatible operating system version.

I think that you can order.

  • I would lose my data recovery Satellite L500 - 19Z 64 bit system?

A few weeks ago, I posted a thread on the repair of recovery disks and disks. Basically I have a portable Satellite L500-19Z that was running a 64-bit version of Windows.

Due to a problem, I had to reinstall Windows. The disc that came with the laptop was produced Recovery Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit. Not realizing the implications of the re-setup using this.
Now, I'm done with a 32-bit operating system, which means that I can use only 3 GB of my 4 GB of RAM.

I didn't know that I had actually created a recovery disc at the point where I bought the laptop.
I could use it to allow me to return to a 64-bit system?

I would lose my data (I can back up) and I would get a 64-bit system on a system that is currently a 32-bit system?

    Hello

The use of the recovery disk would fix the laptop back to factory settings which mean that the HARD disk should be formatted at the beginning of the procedure.

In this case all data would be erased from the HARD drive

  • Re: Satellite L500 - fan power switch every 5-10 seconds

    Hello

    I have a new Toshiba satellite L500 1XX with i3 and I installed the 32 bit OS.
Starting from the first start, the fan is acting strange every 5-10 seconds it started working for 5-10 seconds then stops for 5 to 10 seconds, then again, who's going all the time even if the flurry of the laptop stand out with something.
I think that something is wrong, but was not able to find it. Please I need help
    Thank you

    Hello

That's ok with your laptop. My satellite that a500 is also like that, even if I surf the Internet, watch movie and CPU shows only 5%. I don't play all the games. It didn't because of the dust because I clean it regularly, installed all the drivers, BIOS updated. The only way to make it quieter to run the fan at a constant speed as 54%, I simply load the CPU with some applications that maintains fan runs almost every time and not boring perceptible noise.
You can play with the power settings in the power management, but in my case it does not help. And do not decide yet upgrade the Bios, it don't improve you but can kill your knees so wrong.

    Bazlaha, ahi!

  • Satellite L500 becomes too hot - fan starts at boot only!

My Satellite L500 overheats and stops without warning. I first thought that the fan is defect because it won't start unter SP2 of Vista, but when I reboot it works then on BIOS level.

But as soon as Vista takes over during initialization the fan stops. I tried Speedfan but it is somehow not able to start the fan. he reads only the different temperatures, the fan speed.

I don't know, but maybe this problem occurred after I've upgraded to Vista SP 2 two months ago who was not released by Toshiba. It seems that this will happen by Toshiba more but that's another question.

The laptop is almost 2 years and come with Vista SP1.
The only thing on the side of software is always upgrading the BIOS, there seems to be a newer version of May 2011.

I cleaned the intake with a vacuum cleaner, but the main problem is probably not dust, but the fan does not start. Someone an idea how I can start? Can be a software or a setting somewhere in Windows?

    > I don't know but maybe this problem occurred after I've upgraded to Vista SP 2 two months ago who was not released by Toshiba. It seems that this will happen by Toshiba more but that's another question.

Are you talking about Vista Service Pack 2?
Service Packs for Windows operating systems are released by Microsoft and not the laptop manufacturers. ;) Release of the laptop manufacturers only the drivers own for portable devices unique ;)

    > The only thing on the side of software is always upgrading the BIOS, there seems to be a newer version of May 2011.
So you would update of the BIOS?
    If not try this

What the installation of Win 7? Have you checked if the fans would be running using Win 7 on this laptop? I think it's a test

  • This external modem will work with Satellite L500-1XL, running Windows 7

    Hello

When in Spain, I need to use the dialing up to the internet through Telefónica.
I guess that the L500-1XL is not an internal modem?

This external modem will work with the L500-1XL running Windows 7?

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

    A

    Hello

You re right Satellite L500 doesn t have an internal modem, so you need an external.

I think you can buy every modem that is compatible with Vista. Alternative ask your favorite computer dealer or authorized service provider

A friend got good experience with USRobotics 56K modem like this:

  • Satellite P305D-S8828 - fan runs most of the time

On my new Satellite P305D - S8828 17 "fan seems to work most of the time, fled to 01:45 for: dry then on new 50." I have the schema defined on "balanced" & the unit is based on a cooler aluminium frame (no fans on radiator).

Basically, ventilation under the unit must be very very good compared to flat on a desk. Room temperature. is about 78 F. The unit is basically idling & the fan runs at low speed most of the time. Sometimes it ramps at high speed for about 30 seconds. I can go to Circuit City and check another, but anyone know if this is normal behavior?

I tried a non-Toshiba notebook & I do not remember the fan being audible to all! This laptop was horrible buttons on the touchpad well, so I prefer this Toshiba.

I think that the fan runs up constantly when a movie is playing. I heard a change in BIOS to set the fan turns too, but do not know what is available on this platform. Any help is appreciated, because I can still return unit for something else.

BTW, Wireless G is on, but no traffic running on AC & battery not charging. The fan is sometimes we'RE for: 30 & off at 01:00.
    Thank you
