Satellite L500D - can't read/write DVD

Hello

About a fortnight ago my DVD drive stopped reading/burning DVD and now only times/burns CD I followed the guides to remove the upper and lower filters and reformatted my laptop to factory State and the DVD player does not work.

I bought a new replacement drive, and is not reading the DVD either so im assuming that my original DVD player worked but there is something wrong with the hardware of the laptop itself?

I bought the laptop in November ' 09 so it is still under warranty or is there anything else I can try?

See you soon

Hi mitchello,.

> and reformatted my laptop to the factory of the State and the DVD drive has failed.
If you have tested with factory settings and it still doesn t work it s hardware malfunction but it strange why s it doesn t work with a new disk

What program you use to read or write DVDs? I can recommend the VLC to play all the multimedia content and CD Burner XP Media Player like burning program. Both programs are freeware and works perfectly. Never had a problem with these tools.

Have you bought a new drive to an authorized service? I ask this question because not all readers are compatible with all mobile phones due to the assignment of the different pins. If the new drive does not work you can return it for a replacement.

    Hey,.

What exactly do you mean? This means that you can t burn DVD-r with 16 x speed?
In this case, you should check the specifications of your CD/DVD drive. Not all models support this speed of combustion. In addition, I recommend using 8 x only, he speed will give you a better quality of the burned data/average.

You must also use different types of media. I believe that your other computers have different drives in order to test different mediums. I have a good experience with Verbatim DVD-R.

  • Computer to read DVD - one message says that I can not read the DVD, except that I have installed a new driver.

I have a new Toshiba C650 laptop, and he says that I can not read the dvd on it except that I have installed a new driver. Is this true?

    Hi Bill,

To be honest, this sounds ridiculous but if you get a message, I suppose it could be possible even if I find it incredible.  Do you have it in a (local or online) retail store or Toshiba?  By any chance did you upgrade from the DVD player when buying (where they may have accidentally neglected to update the drivers of the drive that was originally installed)?

As it is new, Toshiba should help you with this.  Here's the contact page: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/navShell.jsp?cf=su_contact&pf=true.  Give them everything they need to prove that buy you it and it should be under warranty and then give them the message Word for Word, that you have found.  They should be able to help you.  They can, for some reason I don't know, you don't need to help or guide you through a new driver installation.  I ask for a clear explanation of why this is necessary on a new computer and, if you are not satisfied with the response, ask them to consider that all the faulty computer and replace it.  Even if they won't, he needs the get them less motivated to solve your problem.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Satellite M70-165: unit of CD/DVD can't read data DVDs - "not possible access to D:.

    Hello world

    I have a Satellite M70-165 equipped of a DVD unit MAST * a DVD-RAM UJ - 841S (5.1.2535.0 driver version).
After years of 1 and a half with no problems, a few days ago, I restore the operating system (Windows XP Home) through the Toshiba restart DVD.

Since then, the CD/DVD unit can read DVD audio, CD, or movies, but when I open a DVD (DVD software) data it is said that "it is not possible to access to the D:\." and something like "does not correct" (I use an Italian version of Win XP so I have to
    translate the messages in English).

All drivrs are regularly installed and there should, in theory, work very well.

I am a user of entry level, and I don't really know what to do. I attended every single forum on the issue for the past few days, but nobody does
    could help me.

I would be extremely grateful if someone could help.

    Hello

This error message has been documented on the site of Microsoft Knowledge:

[Error message when you access the CD or DVD drive after upgrade you to Windows XP: 'Incorrect function' | http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;] EN-US; 315350]

The documentation says that this problem can occur if the registration of CD from Roxio Easy CD Creator program is installed on the computer, and if the version of the CD burning program is not compatible with Windows XP.

  • Satellite 5200 903: can't read my DVD data burning

    Hallo,

I have a problem with my DVD/CD-ROM. He can no longer read my DVD of data (backups of my hard drives) that I burned with the same. Also it can read the DVD movie only after I put the DVD in and out a couple of times. He has no problem with the CD.

Don't you think it's a software or a hardware problem.

    Thank you
    Matthias

    Hi Matthias,

This sounbds as a problem of possible material for me. As you know that the laser must be re-phased to manage the DVDS and allowed tolerances are much smaller. So your device can handle CD correvtly but fights with DVDs.

Have you tried cleaning the lens on your DVD-ROM, this can improve the situation for you.

    Good luck

    All,

    I have a Satellite A60 with UJDA760 CDRW/DVD drive.
The drive will not read the DVD (DVD + are not all, DVD - R, sometimes (if the drive is cold (?))).

This could be a firmware issue? And if yes, does anyone know, where I can find an update for this drive? (I tried the firmware pack - na .zip from the web site of Toshiba, but an update to the reader is not available)

The drive reads CDs without problem.

    Thanks for your comments!
    Wutz

    Hi Bruno

You can update the firmaware but sometimes it doesn t solve disk problems.
For most of these issues occurs because the player doesn't supports different types of DVD or / and CD media.
Hard drives don't support all DVD. The best way is to test different media from different manufacturers.
Sometimes, the same media from the same manufacturer doesn t work on the disc. Yes, it seems very strange but it s true.
Check if you can use other DVDs.

  • Satellite L500D - can't get optical to work reliably drive

    HI again users Toshiba.

Since I got my Satellite L500D I had a problem with TSST corpCD/DVGW TS - L633C ODD. I run 3 OS (Tri-Boot) and all have the same number, so, even though I have updated the firmware to version TO02, I can't get this drive to work reliably. From time to time it will "play" DVD / CD, but not more often.

Basically, when I put a DVD or CD, the drive makes a sound of "hunting" and nothing else happens.

I've been on several tracks of high-low registry settings, operating system specific upgrade and tonight an update of the firmware.

Because etiquette programs that I use on this system I can't abandon this unit some 'tech boutique', even if there was a local.

I am technician qualified in the field of electronics and electric, but have not been exposed to the functioning of such a DVD player so advice here before that I put on the classware magnifying and opt for a quick glance.

My problem, what are looking for?

    Suggestions anyone?

    Hello

What Satellite L500D you exactly (L500D-xxx)?
If you have downloaded TO02 Toshiba support and download page?

To be honest I n don't know what can be the problem, but you can remove the existing HARD drive, put the other HARD disk, install OS using the Toshiba recovery image (I hope that you created the recovery DVDs) and test the functionality of the BIZARRE with own OS pre-installed (factory State).

If the problem persists perhaps you should contact Toshiba authorized service provider and ask for help. They can check ODD and replace if necessary.

  • Carpet * a UJ-830 cannot read/write DVDs on Equium L10

Hi, I have a laptop Equium L10. My DVD RAM mast * a UJ 830 cannot read/write to DVD discs. But it can read and write CDs.
I have installed the latest driver but no luck. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

This problem appears since day one?

I ask because it looks like a hardware malfunction, to me it seems that the lens can not calibrate properly and that's why the drive can read and write DVDs.
What burning software do you use?
For the most part a burning like Nero program provides an error message if the burning process failed

  • CD DVD player: can not read data DVD discs that burned same machine

Laptop with Windows Vista cannot read data DVD discs that burned same machine.  The discs work on another computer.  My laptop will read CD disks, he did, and it will play DVD movies. What's wrong?

    Hello

You have disk problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD &)
Burn DVDs and CDs and read DVDs). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 parts to no function
while others are doing so correctly.

Burning at low speed, or by using the master could help. A CD/DVD cleaner
    could help.

Brand of the CD or DVD drive can also be the problem. Low quality (cheap brands) are always
    issue.

CD/DVDs have a tolerance + - and your can read/write on the outside edge
tolerances of the disks. They may be delivered, but it is usually cheaper to replace
    the reader.

    ===========================================

This troubleshooting might not help if there are problems of alignment and wear it
    is worth it.

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
    below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then check the cables
both ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean the
power and data of the contacts with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the system manufacturer
and the manufacturer of the device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD &)

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are
the entries in registry that the troubleshooter does not solve and those who "might" be the cause.

Check with your Maker system and a device for the two possible firmware updates and
the correct registry entries for your car.

Here are the keys that I of course are those in question - for the subkeys of the CD/DVD drive
as there will be other subkeys in these keys. Do not forget to ask specific keys involved as well as
    the parameters.

My system is a Dell XPS 600 and has a DVD/ROM drive & a DVD RW. The drive works fine, but the DVD RW will not read/write or recognize a disc is inserted. The original drive failed when running normally with WIN XP. The drive won't work, except when I insert the boot disk WIN XP drivers he will read and open the files as it should. Can you help me?
