  I Hare recently upgradedmy Toshiba Satellite L855-149 to the most recent version of windows 8 6.2 and since I did then the Synaptics touch pad stopped working, I guess because the driver does not work with this version of windows 8. What can I do to fix this so I can use my computer without a plug in the mouse again?

  By the way: as Sam mentioned in the post above only are not all but only some notebooks between March and may was affected and there could be only one problem with the loading and unloading of procedure.

  For about 6 months now (got a macbook since) when I turn on my laptop the screen becomes white with a gray rectangle faded in the background.

  When it first I was in the middle of play Skyrim and it just white. It is not white screen "of death", as the screen is all white. Sometimes has a grey box and sometimes has lines running down the screen. I can never get beyond the screen. Just checking if someone has had the same problem and found a solution before I have to get fixed (warranty 3 months before the problem was missed).

  OK just quick advise! try to connect the hollow or external monitor tv hdmi or vga and see how it works if it works fine then could be the fault of the screen or the cable screen broken if its does not work well and you have the same image on an external device then id say video chip is overheating damage or whatever problems comes with like I don't know spec of your pc of video chip intrgrated or dedicated or switchable both, but in most of the missing cheaper if chip to again, some chip actually called technicians resolder (I call warming up) but no guarantee for what he might last for two years or just a few weeks. If the laptop is still under warranty bring it to toshiba for inspecting and fxed.

  In general the media error check failure always appears if the BIOS cannot find the boot device.

  In my opinion the various basic scenarios are possible:
  First of all it is possible that your HARD drive is dead and so laptop can not find system
  But this seems strange because in case of BIOS, HARD drive problems would turn to another bootable device as ODD or LAN.

  So a card mother (defective controller for example?) general problem could also be possible.

  To be honest, it of always difficult to establish a fair and definitive diagnosis without verification of the material first.
  Anyway, in my opinion, you should check if the new HARD drive and the new installation of the OS would solve your problem.

  I've had this laptop for about a month now.
  I'm having a problem with the screen, when the computer is left idle, the screen turns off or the laptop goes to sleep (as expected) but when I go back to the laptop and press a few keys or move the mouse from the laptop back to the top but the screen remains black.
