Satellite M40X-309 LCD problem
When I see movies .avi (MediaPlayer or WinDVD) images are vertically pixelated.
The icons are not quite correct. It seems that some vertical lines have no color information.
Can anyone help? I downloaded the latest Toshiba display driver.
Hello
It would be very interesting to know if it occurs only if you watch .avi files or any other file (mpeg) and the DVD?
Have you tried to install some codex?
Good bye

Satellite M40X-309: change of keyboard
I recently bought a Satellite M40X-309 in the Portugal. I am very happy with my new laptop except for one detail: I'm Brazilian and accustomed to using Brazilians or US keyboard. The keyboard of the Satellite M40X-309 is different and I can not get used to it, no matter how hard I try.
Could someone tell me if I can change my keyboard to Americans or Brazilians one? If yes how can I buy it? Anyone know what keyboards are compatible?
Thank you very much
Hello
Keyboard change shouldn't be a problem. It is easy to do and you can do it alone, but in this case, you lose the warranty. You can try to contact the after-sales Service of Toshiba partner to the Portugal and ask them if they can order a US keyboard for you.
Another way that you can Google a bit more and order one of a few suppliers of laptop parts. I discovered that the American keyboard has number V000052760.
Good luck!

Satellite M40X Screen Display problem
My Satellite M40X has a black vertical line which occupies 20% of the screen on the left side. The rest of the screen shows a full view. Change the display settings makes no difference, and there is no mention of this error in the manual. You don't know whether a problem with the LCD screen or a problem with the adapter and drivers. Wanted to check if someone has experienced something similar and can advise you.
Hello
Check using an external monitor.
If the same vertical line would be seen on the external monitor, an internal graphics card problem may be possible
In this case replace the defectiveSince the GPU is a part of the mobo, you need to replace the motherboard that can be a costly affair

LCD screen turns off without reason - Satellite M40X
I have a problem with my laptop Satellite M40X, I work when the LCD turn off and I hear two PIF. To turn on the LCD screen I need to restart the laptop, but the problem persists after a few minutes.
Can someone help me, please.
Hello
Here you can compare the version of the BIOS installed on the laptop with the one published on the page of the Toshiba driver.
If you use the older BIOS, you can try to update. Maybe the update will sort this strange behavior. But there could also be a hardware malfunction if the BIOS update does not help.

Problem starting on Satellite M40X-250
For some time, I'm having a problem with an old laptop, the Toshiba Satellite M40X-250.
When I try to boot this laptop, the headlights turn on, I can hear the hard drive and fan from, also I can hear (if I have one there) station cd read cd/dvd.
But nothing else happens, the screen remains black and there is no way I can make it work.
I quite know something on the desktop, so I disassembled the laptop completely and just cleaned and after I reassembled it again, but that had no effect, I can not even boot up the laptop.
There is however another strange thing, it is very rare, but sometimes I get to start, but at some random point (very quickly, because I can't actually use the laptop) it is for me a BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) with an error code, I think it was 0x000000EA. In any case, this meant a driver problem with the graphics card. It gave me an error ATIDVAG.
But most of the time I'm still not able to start.
Now, it's a very old laptop and I have tried everything,.
I tried to start without battery (disconnected) and only the power, without result.
I tried to start only with the battery, no results.
I tried to unplug the power supply and the battery, then press the power button / stop for 60 seconds, no results.
I tried several rescue cd, a linux installation cd, windows installation cd, it resulted in nothing.
[EDIT] I have also connected to the laptop to an external monitor, but that did not work, no results.I'm really lost now, I have tried everything I know, and I've never met a problem like this.
Maybe it's just the fact that material became old and it is better to give up, but I would really like to know if there is someone who can help me and maybe give me some ideas on what I can do.I am very familiar with the inside of this laptop and I know what to do. I don't want to not call me an expert, maybe it is a little off, but I know my way around.
so, if anyone has a solution, let me know.Regards and thanks in advance.

In my opinion, it seems that the problem of graphics card.
Black screen means that the display is faulty or chip chart. But if the internal screen would malfunction, then you should still be able to use the external monitor, but I guess that's not possible, therefore, I think that his GPU problem

Satellite M70-309: how to clean the LCD?
Hello world!
I have Satellite M70-309, so how do I clean finger LCD, dust, ecc... ?
Thank you!
Hello Rocco,
Usually mine clean with a slightly damp cloth (wipe softly on the surface) and then just dry with a cloth. This command removes all the dust and finger marks.
I also used a normal domestic surface cleaning spray (used sparingly) applied with a cloth and this removes any greasy fingerprints that can be on the screen.
It is very important to not to use cleansers, abrasives or solvents as they may damage the surface of the LCD screen.
Kind regards

Problems with WLAN on Satellite M40X
It is possible to get wlan working on laptop Toshiba Satellite M40X?
I have Windows XP Home Edition installed and wlan worked fine, but after that I formatted and reinstalled Windows XP Professional, Windows could not find the wireless - ethernet adapter network adapter: (point yellow question mark?) I tried to install the drivers on the Toshiba site, but they do not seem to work properly. How can I solve the problem I don't know what wlan adapter is (Intel or something else). In otherwise, laptop works fine.
A friend of mine has Satellite M40x-185 and it has network without WIRE Intel 2200 b/g card. It's always wrong to post just the name of the template but not exact model M40x-xxx but I assume that you have Intel WLAN too.
Visit the portal of Toshiba WLAN Driver and use the latest version of the driver to install the wireless network on your laptop card.

Problem starting on satellite M40X-189
I have a satellite M40X-189 2 years under XP. The problem I have is very slow to start, and I can hear a steady tone. Finally when he started in windows when I go to a prompt BACK or the run button I get a load of vvvvvvvvvvvv running across the screen.
It seems that there is a problem with the keyboard. Bad, I replaced the keyboard and the error is still present!
Please can someone shed some light on a fix for this problem?
Hello
Maybe it s not the keyboard itself, but the keyboard controller?
What do you think???I put t this issue has something to do with the software installed, as happens in DOS mode, it looks like a motherboard failure, but you know, we can suggest only what could be the problem. For a diagnose exactly the test and verification of the laptop is necessary.

Satellite M40X-189 - screen is white but outdoor work
Hello, I have a satellite M40X-189 PSM4ZE
with a white screen.My problem:
When I start the laptop I just swith without any kind of photo,
If I use an external monitor, I have a picture. When I open the device all the contacts appear to be good.
What can be the problem, and what should I fix or change?
Regards, Heiko (Germany)
I think the best way is that you pass to a local ASP.
On your laptop there is something wrong with the LCD or the cable and maybe the motherboard also. If a technician should check this and he can exchange all necessary parts for you.
Here, you can search an ASP:

Satellite M40x - where the memory?
Hi all
I want to improve my memory of 512 MB to 1.5 GB. I bought 1 G RAM and when I plugged in the screen become white and computer laptop does not work. RAM is fine. I have contact the technical service of the seller, and according to them I need to remove the old 512 MB of RAM and plugged it my 1 GB of RAM for my laptop recognize the new RAM.
To do this, I opened my keboard and under what I can only find WLAN in the middle in the left there is another local network. and the far left, I see my DVD - ROM. On the right PC card and what is - this. I don't know where is the 512 MB RAM slot. It is there somewhere.
Is there any expert who can tell me where to find 512 MB RAM slot?
PS: I even call Toshiba support and they said sorry according to policy, we cannot tell you.
If expert laymen captions please help me to solve this problem. Please
I checked the manual of the Satellite M40x (it can be downloaded from the Toshiba site) and if you look at page 8-7 you can find a description of the memory upgrade.
In my opinion the 512 MB that you already is a built-in RAM that can t be upgraded because the bottom of the laptop is on only one memory slot.
However, I think that it is not a problem to use an additional RAM module, but maybe the new RAM is not compatible with your laptop.
What type of memory you have bought exactly? Maybe you should try it with another.I hope I could help a bit.

Satellite M40X-286: energy saving and the E - key utility does not work on Vista
First of all, sorry for my bad English.
I managed to install Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit on my Satellite M40X-286. Everything works, except for the energy saving and the E - key utility. I tried the added value of packages of other TOSHIBA models, but they all give an error message during the installation. Is there a solution for this problem?
Now I can't change the speed of the processor and the brightness of my screen, and I can't even adjust these settings in a power mode. The only way to change the brightness is manually using the FN + F6 and F7 keys.
Kind regards
Stijn. Please don t be crazy about me, but there is no problem at all. The situation is quite clear.
First: tools and utilities are similar, but in most cases have to be adapted for each laptop model. It may happen that some tools work on the different model of laptop, but this does not mean that he has to work on each model.
Second important fact is that Toshiba does not Satellite M40X support for Vista operating system and I guess you won't be able to use this tool. In my opinion, it is not so important, because all the energy-saving settings you can find in Vista power options.
For utility E - key, I don't see a solution. If you use OS not supported, you must live with it.

Satellite M40x-250 turns off without warning
HII everyone,
Hope you guys can help me. I have an old Toshiba Notebook (Satellite M40x-250).
I don't know how old exactly, but I think around 4 or 5 years. Ive never had any problem with it, but now its weird action. Recently, I was typing something and suddenly it just turned itself off.
I waited about five minutes before I restarted and it worked perfectly again.
Same thing just happened half an hour ago.Now his works once again, with no loss of information.
My laptop is just getting old, or would be - this other problem that could be solved?Thank you!
Hello
In my eyes it s typical overheating problem
As you say it s a laptop plus age (4 to 5 years) and I suppose that the cooling fans have not been cleaned since the first day
I think that there is a lot of dust and debris that prevents the cooling modules to work with maximum efficiency, this can lead to a higher temperature and shut downs. The laptop turns off automatically to prevent the equipment from damage
Clean the fan using a jet of compressed air! In from time to time, and it helps!Welcome them

Satellite M40X - the noise of the fan
Hi all.
I have a Toshiba Satellite M40X - 161 (PSM4XE).
I had this problem with the fan of the computer running all the time and make a lot of noise because I bought a few years ago.
Once I had the fan cleaned in the shop of service it was ok for a few days, and then he started again. Is there a solution for this problem? I read that Toshiba has released new versions of BIOS that solve this problem, but for laptops with ATI/nVidia video cards.
I have an Intel card. Is there something for my model, and someone has fixed this?
Hello
Is not a friend of the problem.
The cooling modules must be cleaned periodically. It s not enough clean the fans only once the dust appears more if it s necessary to regularly clean the cooling modules.
You should also take a look in the power of the Windows operating system options.
Most of the time it possible s control of the CPU performance and cooling performance that would reduce noise and fan activity.
