  Anyone know where I can download a driver for infrared device for my A200?

  It seems that this driver was not installed when I bought the machine 3 years ago. While a google search lists plenty of sites referencing this driver, I found no which lead directly to the driver himself. BTW, I assume the machine has an infrared port. Everything I'm going through is the small window made of plastic on the front of the PC. Manager reviews of devices does not list an infrared option.

  Satellite P10 is old enough laptop model. I have very good experiences with P20. It's almost the same laptop, but a bit bigger. A friend of mine uses P10 for the job and we have installed WXP Pro using all the tricks of the Toshiba support page. The OS is installed two years ago, and the sound still works.

  If you can not get this to work, I recommend you remove all the important data for the D partition or save on an external device and make the clean OS install. It will be interesting to see if the problem persists.

  I own one of the original computers Satellite P10-304, which has a DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive. For these last months, we have one or two problems with that.   But that is only my suggestion. The other possibility is broken (lens calibration problem) by car.
  You say that you have already removed the drive from the Device Manager, but the peut t OS recognizes the drive again. Well, in this case one of the possibilities is to use the System Restore tool or retrieve the device with the recovery CD.
  But if the drive is broken recovery procedure doesn t help. In this case, only the replacement of the drive can solve this problem.

  My DVD burner does not work, so I have no chance to install Windows XP from the recovery disks. I tried to boot from external DVD writer, but the device is not recognized. Similarly a bootable USB key.

  That means Toshiba with "removable devices"? Or I made a mistake?

  As far as I know Satellite P10 and P20 have removable optical drive. You can remove the CD/DVD drive and put it inside the floppy drive and use it as first boot device.

  Check if the infrared device is listed in Device Manager!
  I'm not very well what type of tree it should be, but you should see something like irda m.
  If the the irda deivce is listed, then you do not need to reinstall the driver and there should be another reason why you can not use the remote control.

  Check everything first.

  PS: I recomedn to test the media remote running.

  I have a problem with my Toshiba Satellite P10 (bought in 2004).

  Are the mentioned devices properly recognized in Device Manager or there is some yellow exclamation points?
  How did you install the operating system? Train the Toshiba Recovery CD or manually? This issue has been published since the first day, or you have installed any 3rd party applications?

  As you can see there are a lot of questions because no one knows what you have done on your laptop. In my opinion the damaged registry entries might be a reason for these issues.

  I think that you should try to remove the SD card reader and Irda device after the Restart Manager again you should auto search devices.

  (2) the keyboard layout is German. But I have already tested the English (United States) too: the result is the same.

  (1) is the key physically damaged?

  As far as I know that it is not necessary to install a driver for keyboard. The driver is built into the OS. If the button is dead and doesn't work at all, it is probably defective.
