Satellite Pro A120 - 2GM RAM but only 896 MB recognized

Hello
I have the same model and similar problem then would not start a new thread.

I just removed the stick a 512 mb and replaced with 2 sticks of 1 GB, but when I check in system information it shows only 896 MB.
This should be about 1 800 MB, I think.
What I have to change all the settings so that it can recognize the two sticks?

Dave W

Hello

There s no need to change the settings in order to recognize all the RAM.
The BIOS should detect the two RAM modules automatically.

In your case I suppose that a module of RAM was not recognized and therefore shows only 896 MB.
The small part of RAM is located by the graphics card and is why it shows only 896 MB.

Welcome them

    Hello everyone

I want to upgrade the RAM for my Satellite Pro A120-189, model number PSACIE-05V021EN, as the laptop is quite slow (I use Vista 32 bit business).
I was wondering what is the maximum RAM for my laptop, and how compatible RAM module I might add (for now, I have 1 GB of RAM).

Thank you in advance for your help!

    Hello

I checked the specification of your laptop on the Toshiba page and this laptop can be upgraded to 4 GB of RAM. This is why you must use two modules of 2 GB with DDR2 (533 MHz) technology.

You can get new RAM to each computer store or authorized service provider. I have good experiences with high-quality Kingston modules.

    Hello

Although the sound on my laptop works well, I can no longer on / turn off or adjust the volume by using the function keys or the sound button/wheel (before the laptop).

I think it can occur after you uninstall a boot program (controls when everything starts during startup).

Any ideas how I can get it working again?

    Hello

Why you n t try to adjust the operating system in the early time before you uninstalled the application?
I think this might be the best way to get this rerun

Otherwise, try to reinstall the Toshiba 3.23.1704.U for Win XP controls

  • Satellite Pro A120 - I want to upgrade the RAM

    Hello

I'm looking to upgrade the RAM in my Satellite Pro A120 Model No.: PSAC1E-05C00VEN

I'm getting conflicting reports as to how this can actually take, some sites say a 1 GB maximum per slot max so 2 GB while most of the others say max 2 GB per slot

I was hoping you could advise me.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

    Hello!

Your Satellite Pro A120 is equipped with the Intel 945 GM chipset and so you can upgrade it to 4 GB of RAM.
Only models with ATI chipset can be upgraded to 2 GB and I think this is the reason why some sites say that it can be upgraded to 2 GB and others at 4 GB.

However, for the upgrade of RAM DDR2-RAM PC2-5300 (DDR2-677). You can buy 2 GB modules for a maximum of 4 GB.
But don t forget that only a 64 bit OS supports 4 GB of RAM.

    Good bye

  • Satellite Pro A120 PSAC1E: Cannot burn DVD-RAM

    Hello

I have a Satellite Pro A120 PSAC1E, who owns a DVD player, I tried to write on a DVD RAM, and he says the copy is write protected, I checked help and it says to install the driver of DVD from tools and disk utilities, but I can't find the drive with the rest of the bits provided with the computer when I got it earlier.

Is there anywhere I can download this driver?
    Thank you

    Hello
One question; What operating system do you use? Looking for XP or Vista drivers?
The Toshiba driver page provides all the necessary drivers. There is a new update 5.20 - B70A DLA . CA? OS independent and Ca s? s a good idea to install it.
This is the problem for writing or formatting DVD-RAM disk.

PS; The DVD-RAM driver is also available but only for W2k
The XP and W2k DVD-RAM driver is available by satellite Pro A120 PSAC0E

  • Satellite Pro A120 (PSAC0E) does not start after upgrading RAM

    Hello

I hope someone can help me here, I recently bought a Satellite Pro A120 (PSAC0E) and decided to upgrade the RAM. I bought a stick of 512 MB of curries with the following specifications: DDR PC2700 200-pin 333 Mhz SODIMM (64 x 64).

However, the first problem I encountered was an alignment problem. A little effort and handling solved this, but after you insert the RAM into the available slot, the computer laptop wouldn't boot, and instead, I had the flashing sequence on the LED from 2,3,3.

I was told it might be a problem matching, then tried to remove the original RAM and booting with just the new stick, still the same error. I tried it in the slots and still no joy. It starts very well with the original 256 MB of RAM, but refuses to take the new RAM.

Are there any known issues? Can anyone suggest something that I can do wrong? I followed the usual steps of upgrade to remove all power cables and the battery before the upgrade, but still no joy.

Hoping that someone is able to help!

    Hi James

You simply have bad memory modules and is not a compatible uses.

    > the first problem I encountered was an alignment problem. A little effort and handling solved this,

This should not happen! The right modules can be inserted without any problem of alignment!
    Handling can damage the module!

In my opinion, you should use another and supported the RAM module.

To my knowledge, you can use the PA3512U-1M1G (DDR2-667 1 GB Memory Kit) or (PA3411U-2M1G) DDR2-533 1 GB
    The two should be compatible.

  • Upgrading RAM on Satellite Pro A120-166

    Hi guys,.

I m new on this forum and looking for a bit of technical advice. I'm looking to upgrade the memory in my Satellite Pro A120-166 to the threshold of 4 GB complete as described in the manual.

How to choose what memory to buy? Is the speed of the memory must match the FSB on the processor or what?

The online manual lists at 533 MHz FSB, but if I go into the performance of the system on my laptop, it says that it's an Intel (r) [email protected], 800 MHz, 256 MB RAM. This means that my FSB is 800 MHz?

The online manual says that my phone comes with 256 MB of ram DDR2 (533 MHz), so I'm a little lost as to what side MHz memory to buy now.

    Help, please!

    Hello

You are right about maximum RAM. You can improve it up to 4 GB.
Toshiba recommends for compatible use PA3513U-1M2G (DDR2-667 2 GB Memory Kit).

You can also use the module of Kingston. Visit their page, and you will find a list of the compatible modules.
Please don't be confused about MHz. You can use the module with 667 MHz.

  • CD not recognized - Satellite Pro A120

I recently bought a Satellite Pro A120 with Windows Vista professional. I have a problem with the DVD player (Mat * a DVD - RAM) because sometimes when I insert a CD of the software, the disk turns but does not recognize the drive.

I tried different CD, but the problem is the same. I can only solve the problem by restarting the computer. That always seems to happen unless the PC has barely started.

I installed the latest version of the BIOS and still have the problem.

    Hello

Hear you the CD cannot be read or the AutoPlay window does not appear?
Have you used the CD s compatible?

In the manual, you should find a list of compatible CD s & s DVD.
But be aware that the user guide lists only the manufacturers of CD and DVD and NOT sellers like TDK or Verbatim, etc...

In the internet, you could find some freeware software that finds this which is the manufacturing of CD or DVD.
Then, you can compare your CD/DVD with compatible manufacturers manufacturing and supported in the operating manual.

If the CD or DVD is not listed as compatible support or supported various compatibility problems could appear.

  • Performance on a Satellite Pro A120-185 with Windows Vista problems

Can someone help me with this.
My laptop is a new Satellite Pro A120-185 with Windows Vista.

I had my last configuration less portable, but you know what? He was faster!

I'm supposed to have cetrino duo 2, 2 GHz and cach of 4 MB, FSB 667 MHz, RAM 1 GB, even though they are at 533 MHz, 100 GB 5400 RPM HARD drive / MIN.

It is slow, not only starting, programs opening, plays something, the browser and even to copy from the CD to the hard drive sometimes give me time 4 days left!

Clicking on something takes forever. What's wrong?
Need less to say that with vista no and I mean none, of my devices are busy. Dongle Bluetooth, USB disk, printer, NAS, and and...

    Hey dude,

Please don t forget that Vista has been installed on your laptop and the additional tools of Toshiba and the utilities that control many additional features!
There is a huge difference between Vista and early Microsoft operating systems.

The Vista eat computer resources and many devices old don t work or cannot be installed because the 3rd device manufacturers don t provide Vista drivers!

In my opinion an upgrade to 2 GB ram would increases the performance of laptop.
All programs and utilities could be loaded more quickly

  • Satellite Pro A120 boot disc

I'm trying to install xp on my Satellite Pro A120 (PSAC1E), which is under Vista Business (somehow) 1 GB of RAM. I tried to set BIOS to boot from the CD-ROM, I tried the setting to boot from the CD-ROM using screen splach (F4) options. The snoring of CD player and I can hear it trying to read the disc (and ongoing); However, the system hangs on the screen 'Press any key to boot from the CD-ROM..' black and does not reach the blue screen with white writing. If I let the points to continue across the screen I just get the boot options for Vista or memory diagnostic utility.

The optical drive is correct: I can open the disc and run Setup (without the install option) within windows.
The disc is not serious: I installed the XP Pro SP2 on other PCs without problem

I thought it might be the problem with SATA driver, but after downloading the drivers and compiled a disc using nLite, I realized my mistake - if it will not boot from the CD what well to put the drivers on the CD?

We have several A120 at work and I can't get an any of them to start from a win XP Pro SP2 disk!

Now, I think there must be a setting that prevents the downgrade from Vista to XP: I don't have the know-how to install windows from DOS or I would try to format the drive and put the files on the hard drive and then installing that way.

Any help would be appreciated... Vista Business can be good with 3 GB of RAM, but not with one. How did the Toshiba when they put this package together?

    Thanks in advance

    Orbitfish

    Hello

I doubt that this question has something to do with the SATA drivers. You only need the SATA drivers on the blue screen with white letters where you can choose if you want to install XP (press enter) or you can choose the repair console (press R).
But on this screen, you will need the SATA drivers. Otherwise, the HARD disk will not be recognized.

However, in your case, I'll try another XP disc. I know the drive works in another computer but maybe your ODD does not work properly, and so it can t read any disk. Then please try another.

In addition, you should try to load the default settings in the BIOS. Maybe it works.

Have you tested another bootable disk?
    Check this please!

  • Satellite Pro A120: Need to update the BIOS after upgrade CPU

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 and I need to update the bios of a change in cpu cause.
The laptop works very well, but for some reason any with the new processor fan runs always full.

A lot, I searched but found nothing.
The model number is PSAC1E-0QL04CG3 of ideas where I can find the bios?

    THX in advance,
    John

    Hello

First of all: update BIOS doesn t help you.
Why do you think that BIOS update should help reduce the activity of fan?

I guess that your new processor is faster. Right?
So it offers more performance and this leads to higher heat dissipation... so finally the CPU must be cooled and this can be done only if the cooling module would turn faster you agree with me?

By the way: the update of the BIOS is on the page of the Toshiba UE driver. Since the satellite Pro A120 is very old series, you will need to search for drivers in area Archive (Type of product-> Archive)

  • Satellite Pro A120 - LCD black screen - Fine on external monitor - fine

Hi, I have a headache with a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 mojor. The screen began to move to the blackout at random times and happens more and more. It is not serious if W
Jayindows has loaded or if I enter the bios, boot from the CD or leave it sitting waiting for me to select a boot device. More often than otherwise, it becomes black, but you can still see what needs to be on the screen, it is simply not at all turned to see clearly. The laptop itself still works very well because it works on an external monitor and makes the system beeps, cd turns etc.
    Have you tried the following:
Setting of various parameters in the graphics properties and in the bios but makes no difference.
It also becomes active again if I press FN + F5 to swap monitors but turns off after a few seconds.
It is not overheating as it's been all night and still sometimes happens when starting Cold Stone.
I tried to start with / without battery - no difference.
I tried to start without the disk HARD - no difference.
I tried to remove the battery by pressing power for 60 seconds, then add the battery and new starter - no difference in power.
I could have sworn it is the inverter, but it does the same thing with an inverter I know works! do not think that it may be graphic because it works on an external monitor and turn off.
I'm out of ideas and looking for a genius to fix it for me please!
    See you soon

    Hey Buddy,

    > It turns on but not at all to see clear
This would mean that the FL inverter is faulty the FL inverter of the internal LCD display controls the backlight of the screen and if the isn t working FL inverter you can see a picture, but very very dark.

It would be a logical explanation for your problem, because there must be something wrong with the laptop LCD if an external monitor is working properly. Also if it happens in the BIOS the problem is not software.

In your case I contact an authorized service provider and ask the guys for help. They can check your laptop and this should be done. Here, we can only speculate and discuss the different possibilities because it s just a user forum. EPA has professional diagnostic tools and can order all Toshiba spare parts.

    Good luck! :)

  • Satellite Pro A120 - does not start with 4 GB of memory

    Hi all

I'm new here so please be gentle!

I have a Satellite Pro A120, model No. PSACOE - 037014EN and you want to increase the memory 512 MB present. I tried 2 different sets of memory 4 GB (2x2gb), but the machine does not start. I tried the different modules together and on their own but still no joy.

Where I'm going wrong? This model will not take 2 GB memory modules?

    Any advice will be appreciated.

    Best regards

    Dr. Feelgood

    Hello

Before changing something about your hardware, please make sure that if the computer supports the new pieces of material and, therefore, you can also consult the user manual.

Anyway, I checked this and this laptop can only be upgraded to 2 GB maximum. This means that you can use the module of 1 GB in each slot and * no * 2 GB in each slot.

So please bring back the memory modules and buy 2x1GB. It will work.

  • Satellite Pro A120 - no power supply the AC adapter

    Hello

I recently had some problems with powering the my Satellite PRO A120. Initially I was not getting any power to the laptop of my adapter. I bought a new card on ebay that seems to have solved the problem as my laptop turned on once more, even if I could use it only for a few minutes on the stand alone mode as it would drain completely after a few minutes. After a few weeks, the adapter has stopped working. This led me to believe that my battery might be the problem that caused the adapter switch defective.

I then bought a battery of reco and tried to see how long he would stay on without the adapter - even once the laptop only lasted a few minutes before I die

I can only use my laptop with a power adapter borrowed right now. The battery is the cause or is there an underlying problem with memory or the motherboard?

It will be expensive to fix or should I try to buy a battery and the original power cord and see if it works

Your opinions and comments would be greatly appreciated.

    > After a few weeks, the adapter has stopped working. This led me to believe that my battery might be the problem that caused the adapter switch defective.

It is a nonsense. The battery does not affect the power adapter!
The battery loses own performance during use of the laptop and sooner or later, the battery will discharge.
This is nothing unusual happens to all batteries

In your case, it could be a defective battery and AC adapter malfunction
It is very rare that the two parties would begin to malfunction at the same time, but it possible s

However, in my view the laptop must be tested using the new battery and AC adapter.

    Welcome them

    PA3499U - 1 M 25 (Kit of memory 256 Mo DDR2-667)
    PA3511U - 1 M 51 (Kit of memory 512 MB DDR2-667)
