Satellite Pro A120 - cannot install recovery disc

Hi - I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 PSAC1E-04H00VEN model number

It was less his hard drive and I posted previously to try a 160 GB drive without success. I thought that the drive may be defective, so I have now acquired a 120 GB drive. It is not new, but assured me that it works. However, it does not work in this laptop! As before (with the disk 160), when I try to install it using the Toshiba restore disc, the operation just sticks on the "Please wait..." message. "for 30 minutes then the machine shuts down. Assuming that the hard drive is ok there at - it something more, that I can do to determine the problem with this laptop?

FYI, this is what happens after installing the hard drive:
I turn it on and get this message: NTLDR is missing. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to restart.
I insert the product recovery disc, put off and then again when you press F12.
I get a soft Purring over the Toshiba logo. I select the CD/DVD symbol and get a short message saying: the installer inspects the hardware configuration of your computer.
I then get RAMDISK image loading... which takes less than 2 minutes.
I then get a short message saying: from Windows Preinstallation Environment. Press F6 if you need to install a third-party RAID or SCSI driver...
I then get it please wait... and after 10 seconds, the fan goes into overdrive! This Carry on during 30 minutes with him please wait... message, then the laptop turns off automatically.

Any ideas anyone?

Thank you.

Hi Lapitup,

Before you buy another HARD drive, you need to test a different installation disk you have already tried the two hard disks with the same problem so I think that the problem is not HARD drive itself

If you have a normal installation disc of Windows, you can install Windows on this drive. So you can check if the recovery disk works properly or not. Theoretically, the disc could be wiped off so that the files cannot be read properly.

In the worst cases, some of the material is affected. Then, you need professional help of an authorized service provider.

    Hello

When I go back to the Windows XP operating system, I just couldn't access the Bios (event the i press F1, F2) and the computer cannot start the windows XP SP2 CD too but it starts windows XP 2001 CD

    Could someone help me please

    Hello

To access the BIOS, you can try press ESC then F1.
Pro A120 was equipped with the Toshiba BIOS and that is why the ESC and F1 should functions.

To boot from the CD of Win XP you can also press F12 immediately after switching on the laptop. This will start on the screen menu and there you can choose the CD/DVD drive as the boot source!

  • Re: Satellite Pro A120: cannot select an option on the recovery disk

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120, which has recently been faced with the "alert: System protection failure! "password:" problem that it turned up on some BIOS password unknown on its own in the middle of normal operation.

I got that fixed local Toshiba ASP.
But now, when I was about to reinstall the Windows cos she had slow, the possibility that the recovery media normally give to just format the first partition become invalid.

In the settings dialog box, the option is always there but it cannot be selected by clicking on it (from the color of the background showing this option not valid currently)... which means that the only selection (selected by default) is format all of the 38 GB... I don't want to do.

Someone knows what is wrong and how can I solve this problem.

I assume that you are using Windows XP and the restore CD also contains the XP operating system.
It s also interesting if this option has worked in the past?  :|

However, it s really mysterious that the solution cannot be executed and unfortunately I do not know why it happened

In the worst case, you'll have to back up data from the HARD drive and format the whole HARD drive :(

  • Satellite Pro A120 - cannot boot from CD/DVD drive

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 of friends, he was running very slow so I said I'd do the usual for him.
Back up all his documents, and then reinstall windows. not so easy!

First of all, try to boot from the CD so I can boot into Ubuntu or reinstall windows.
Me has taken long enough to work, I had to press DEL/ESC to enter in the BIOS, but once I put to boot from the CD (and was a bootable CD in the drive), it kept just boot from the HARD drive.

From time to time I get an error saying + "Media test failure - check cable" + or something similar, theres a lot on internet on this subject.
I think its something to do if the boot order has CD first, then it has LAN as 2nd.

Able to boot Ubuntu from a USB key.
Try to copy its documents on my external drive but really copying REALLY slow (like 1 MB/s) and kept getting IO errors on some files.
I can't run diagnostic software for HARD drive that I can not boot from the CD (could get the Ultimate Boot CD on a USB but if anyone thinks it would help?).

In windows, the CD player only reads real CD (audio similar DVD, not CDR and DVDR).
    This means a failing drive?
What intrigues me most, however, is that I changed the portable CD player with a CD of work of another computer and windows recognize today this new CD player at all!

By putting a bootable CD in this new CD player, it always starts from the HARD drive (do not recognize CD player in all).
The BIOS is a bit unnecessary and does not show the detected disks...

Also, boot Ubuntu from a USB key, with the original CD player, he reads real CD and DVD copied of all zeros are considered blank discs and replace the CD drive with a known working in Ubuntu means its not recognized at all (if this isn't windows driver problems).

When I started messing around with it I remember windows say the time had been reset, so I set the time properly, then he did the same thing again I think. A flat CMOS battery could not be responsible for this?

Is the motherboard and specifically the IDE controller or a broken ports, or am I doing something stupid? I'm tempted to just install Ubuntu by USB and tell him not to bother with CD more ;^)

Any suggestions or comments would be much appreciated!

    Thank you
    Dan Gent

    > Me has taken long enough to work, I had to press DEL/ESC to enter in the BIOS, but once I put to boot from the CD (and was a bootable CD in the drive), it kept just boot from the HARD drive.
You see the CD/DVD drive in BIOS? I mean all the details like the name WEIRD etc.
If this isn't the case, then it means that your CD/DVD drive is not recognized by the BIOS due to a hardware problem.

If you can see the STRANGE in the BIOS but are still not able to boot from any disk, then I suppose that the CD/DVD drive cannot read the disk for different reasons.
One of the reasons could be a defective or damage the laser lens

    > Every so often, I would get an error saying "Media test failure - check cable" or something similar, theres a lot on internet on this subject. I think its something to do if the boot order has CD first, then it has LAN as 2nd.

Yes, this error means that your laptop tried to boot from LAN

    > In windows, the CD player only reads real CD (audio similar DVD, not CDR and DVDR). This means a failing drive?

As I said above, it would be possible that the reader s laser lens malfunctions and, therefore, the ODD can't handle the media. It seems that the laser lens can not calibrate properly and can not move in the correct position. This question is not repairable and the drive needs to be replaced.

    > What intrigues me most, however, is that I changed the CD drive with a CD of work of another laptop and windows don't recognize this new CD player at all!

The fact is that not all CD/DVD drives are compatible due to different master/slave/C-salt settings. You must use the supported players! In most cases, you can find a list in your user manual what CD/DVD readers are compatible.

  • Satellite Pro A120 - I need recovery disk

Accidentally all trying to clear up my computer deleted user accounts and so XP has been totally screwed and wouldn't let me in, even the administrator account it says did not exist (which I think is impossible), so I gave up and did a hard drive erase computer that I was about to throw in the trash as a lost cause...

SO, what I really need, is the disc of recovery for Toshiba Satellite Pro A120, I very foolishly went and lost (look around these forums, it seems I'm not the only one!).

Anyway, the computer running Windows XP Professional and the laptop model number is: PSAC0E-006008EN

VERY ANNOYINGLY TOSHIBA NO LONGER SUPPORT LAPTOP DISKS OR TO SELL FOR HER RECOVERY!
(I hope that is read by an employee of Toshiba!).

Can anyone help or suggest where to get a recovery disc please? I tried Ebay and multiple searches on google but no assets came.

Message was edited with a mug shot by: jonbad

By the way, can someone please explain why Toshiba offer all the necessary drivers for the operating system if they do not provide you with the operating system itself - i.e., they give you a disk image which has already drivers preinstalled on it... Doesn't make a lot of sense to me, unless you had to find your own copy of windows XP, which probably won't be not work with the serial key Toshiba windows XP first and then try and download and install each driver? I do not.

    Hello

I think that you have tried to order the recovery disk by using the online store of recovery site.
You will not be able to order using this service, because the only Vista recovery disc could be ordered using this service.

In your case, I would ask an ASP in your country for this disc.
And notes; There are more FSA in your country as only.

Then perhaps you should contact several service points.

  • Satellite Pro A120 cannot start when the printer is connected

Hi I have a brand new Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 but I'm having a very strange problem.

I installed my printer - Epson Stylus Photo R300, but now the laptop will not start if the printer is on. When I turn it on the Toshiba screen comes ok, then the Windows XP screen comes with the black background when the blue bar to cross to load Windows but its all disappear and the laptop just hangs and will not!

However, if you turn the printer off and turn the laptop it starts up fine!

Its really the printer which is the cause as its only when I turned it on.

It's never caused this problem with my old PC using Windows XP too.

Any help with a resolution would be greatly appreicated.

    Thank you

    Adam.

How to disconnect the printer during the boot process? ;)

  • Satellite Pro L300D: Cannot install because of the common Modules control utility

    Hi guys,.

I'm new to this forum, but I spent two days looking around.
I have a sat Pro L300D that I'm downgrading to XP, because many are, and I can't get the touchpad to work or function buttons.

One problem seems to be to install the utility 'controls', which gives the message "common modules" not installed even though it was the first pilot, I have installed.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    OK, here we go.
Toshiba pilot European page doesn't provide drivers XP ALL, tools or utilities for the Satellite Pro L300D.
Is this good? I checked the page and there are no. XP applications.

So I came to the conclusion that the common Modules cannot be installed because this software was not designed for this series of portable and therefore, you receive this error message.
    It is clear!

So Don t wonder what impossible to install "utility controls" or common modules. These pieces of software are not compatible

  • Satellite Pro U400 - cannot install VAP on Vista 64-bit

    Hello
Since I bought 4GB of RAM for my Satellite Pro U400 PSU45E, I installed vista Business 64-bit, with all drivers and bios 64 bit found on the toshiba site.
easy, with the exception of the "value added package 1.1.19", whenever I try to install I get: error "failure of GetProfString."

I installed every driver and utility for 64-bit, but still the same...
    Everyone has experienced with this?

Without VAP, I can't use the Toshiba power saver, worst profiles I can't go back because I did a new install and deleted the recovery partition!
    Please, someone help!

    Hello

VAP contains all the modules necessary and you n t need to install other tools in order to install VAP
I think that it s a Vista may issue you should do a clean install, then you must update the Vista for the last State.
After have installed all the patches Vista, try to install VAP and other tools.

    Good bye

  • Satellite Pro L500 - cannot install the Realtek LAN driver

    Hi all

I got a Satellite Pro L500 Windows 7 pro with disk created from computers, cell phones, but now cannot install a Realtek LAN driver for the laptop.

The installation of the driver software program doesn't seem to work properly all the time, tried several times to install with only once a realtek 'repair' option becomes available.
When I managed to install the driver I got an error "the device couldn't start. After restoring I also had problems with a "controller driver simple communication PCL.
which seems to have been an Intel MEI according to the SAT, DEV info displayed in the information systems.

If these problems are linked and how to install the driver required in an automated system if the system does not correctly detects hardware?

    Hello

I m not owner of the Satellite Pro L500 but have you ever tried to install the latest driver Realtek LAN official site of Toshiba?

  • Satellite P300-220 - cannot run Recovery Disc Creator

    Hello

Yesterday I received my new laptop (Satellite P300-220). Today, I'm trying to make a record of recovery and launch "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator", the hourglass appears for 3 or 4 seconds but nothing else, cannot access the application.
    Any idea?

    Thank you

    Hello

Do you have something to change on the laptop before you start the Toshiba Recovery disk?

It's not easy to say which is the reason, but in your case I would start the recovery of HARD drive option. Go to the advanced boot menu, select fix my computer.

  • Satellite Pro L40 - cannot install Windows XP

Material: Satellite Pro L40, HDD 80 GB, 1.5 GB of RAM

Software: Windows XP + SP2 install CD, floppy disk with AHCI HDD ICH8M_32bit drivers drivers created according to the instructions in "how to install Windows XP on a L40.pd"f of Toshiba (which is pretty outdated by the way!)

Problem: The start is fine, after pressing F6 quick to add drivers is very good, set up windows starts.
Then I get this message on the screen: insert the disc labeled "Intel Matrix Storage Manager" in the A: drive. Press ENTER when you are ready.
This is not mentioned in the installation instructions.

Well, I don't have a disc labeled like that. I only have the disk that I created according to the instructions in the PDF above.
It is already in the drive, so I press ENTER and nothing happens.

My only other option is to quit smoking. Tried to quit smoking and going through the whole process several times - always eventually return to this impasse.

    (sigh)

    Can anyone help? Please?

I think that you have made a mistake, because I never have problems to use the SATA drivers.
Have you tried to do the floppy drive with the drivers and where did you download the drivers? Maybe you should try to download again on the Toshiba site:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-online decision-making supported Downloads & => Download drivers

And have you tried to create your own with the drivers installation disk? You can do this with nLite for example. I prefer this because that is why I n t need an external floppy drive.
    It s worth a try! ;)

  • Satellite Pro P200: Cannot install Server 2003 - parity memory error

I have a Satellite Pro P200 and to the work required to install Windows 2003 server on it, but all I get is an error message:

    -Hardware malfunction

Call your provider of support material

NMI: Parity check / memory parity error

    -The system is shut down

I checked the memory and everything seems OK. Vista runs very well on it, and all memory is recognized. I tried different flavors of Server 2003, although all I need is standard edition. Anyone who has met this problem, or someone has any suspicion as to how I can get it operational.

So, how tested the RAM? With Memtest? Or Prime95?

I read in many forums that people work servers (no laptop...) SERVERS) that correctly work 1 year with ECC memory, then windows 2003 server gives the same error message you have.

I mean if Vista works flawlessly and you checked as you say the RAM while there could be a mismatch which must not be for lack of toshibas.
Maybe you should try a linux ubuntu server edition, which works great on almost * ALL * systems, even on systems with faulty CPU/memory (Ok, ok, not 100%, but it works, I got this case :))

So, maybe you can try to exchange the RAM, but if you're still the same error then ask microsoft or try another P200, if they are available.

Sorry dude, but I Don t have a lot of ideas in your situation :/

Anyone has any ideas, tips or suggestions please?
My goal is to alow the user to be able to play Sims 2 if it is possibe, because I know that some video cards do not support the game (or whatever it is).

    Hello

I assume that you have downloaded the zip package.

Then go to the folder where the driver was decompressed and then launch the installation.

    Can you do this?

I think that this is a known issue.

Sometimes it s useful to search the Microsoft Knowledge Base. There, I found these interesting documents:

It is very important to install these patches before you install the driver.
