Satellite Pro M30 - HDD upgrade up to 160 GB

Hello

I have a portable Satellite Pro M30 and I want to move the hard drive to the maximum size supported.

As I see from previous posts of the preinstalled bios supports up to 128 GB, so the questions are:

1A everyone updated bios to support larger sizes (e.g. 160 GB)?

2. the link suggested for bios updates (http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_bios.jsp?service=EU) does not provide an option for the M30 (only M70) series. So what one do I download for M30?

Thank you

Hello

First update the BIOS will not help you get a possibility of using a 160 GB HARD drive.
The fact is that the M30 Pro Sam has an interface IDE (ATA-5) and this HARD drive controller supports LBA the28bit
So in my opinion the 160 GB only are not supported.

By the way;
You can find the BIOS and the driver for the Pro M30 sitting on the Toshiba driver page.
But to look for the area of _ARCHIVE_!

  • Satellite Pro M10 HDD Upgrade - how will work?

    Hello

    I have a question I have a Satellite Pro M10 (PS630E-G207W-GR) and I want to change the hard drive to a 120 GB + HARD drive so I called the Supporthotline because I need the Windows CD and they mean that would work with a new HARD drive, because the Bios does not the new HARD drive, and he was not told why. Now the question is, if it works with an update of the bios, or if maybe there is already a person here with a working 100 GB + HDD from the laptop.

    and sorry for my very bad English

    Hello

    If you are not satisfied with the answers provided by the support, you can also try to communicate with several independent services for hardware upgrade. As far as I know, they are able to manipulate the BIOS to work with hard disks are not supported. Maybe this solution is for you.

    At least on this forum, you can find topics where users of laptops repost on an improvement of HARD drive (more than 100 GB) successfully with older models as your M10. You can order 120 GB of HARD drive and try to use it. If this does not work you can send it back. To do this, you have about 14 days. Test it!

    Hello

    As far as I know that the Sat Pro A10 has been delivered with 3 different drives - 20 GB, 30 GB, 40 GB.
    In my opinion the 40 GB is a maximum size of HARD drive support. It is possible that the BIOS could not acknowledge more large drives.

  • Satellite Pro 4600: HDD upgrade question

    Hello.

    I decided to upgrade my Satellite Pro 4600 a 20 GB hard drive to a 60 gig.
    Only, I get a blank screen.
    When I go back my 20 original concert, it works well.
    Y at - it a special procedure for the Assembly of the larger disks?

    The BIOS recognizes the HARD drive correctly?

    Perhaps the size of the HARD drive is too big and so you have a few problems with the laptop.

    The fact is that not all HARD drive sizes are supported and the BIOS recognizes all drives, if the size is too large. Therefore, you should try a smaller HARD drive

    Hi colleagues!

    My comp is Satellite Pro M30-873. He has only 512 MB of main memory.
    I want to spend 1 to 2 GB. Recommended memory is Kingston KTT3311

    It is fully compatible with M30? Anyone tried?

    Thaks a lot in advance

    Hello

    Your laptop can be upgraded up to 2 GB of RAM and compatible 1 GB of RAM except the number PA3313U-1M1G. Use this number for Google search.
    I hope you find somewhere. This module may not be more expensive so I recommend buying 2 of them and the upgrade of RAM maximum.

  • RAM 1 GB upgrade will increase the performance of the Satellite Pro M30?

    My ram size is currenty 512 MB.
    I have the model Satellite Pro M30.
    As the old model, my laptop would be faster if I increase to 1 GB

    Hello

    Of course, the 1 GB of RAM would help increase the performance of your laptop.
    It must be useful for faster loading applications.
    You will notice also that your tools and other software will be faster.

    To upgrade to the 1 GB RAM, you would need two 512 MB modules.
    Usually the PC2700 DDR - RAM 512 MB module must be compatible.

  • Options to upgrade to Vista for Satellite Pro M30-114/Centrino PM 745

    Hello

    Does anyone know if there is a solution to make a Satellite Pro M30-114/Centrino PM 745 (model No. PSM35E - 002 X 0 - S4) running windows vista AERO?
    According to the Microsoft diagnostic tool, the graphics card is unable to run AERO. Is this true? It can be replaced? with what model of GC? Another option?

    Thanks in advance for the help

    Hello

    Solution? I don t think that someone will post a solution here.
    Why? Because there is no problem!

    It s a simple fact that the Vista Aero needs Windows Vista Premium ready computer:
    1 GHz 32-bit (x 86) or (x 64) 64-bit processor).
    1 GB of system memory.
    Support for DirectX 9 graphics with a WDDM driver, 128 MB graphics memory (minimum) Pixel Shader 2.0 and 32 bits per pixel.

    Your laptop uses a shared 32 to 64 MB graphics card. Sorry, but this is just too weak to run Vista Aero feature.

    By the way: it s is not possible to replace and update the graphics card on laptops

  • Need info on max size of HARD drive available for Satellite Pro M30-813

    Hello

    The question is mainly to be sent to Toshiba authorized support personnel. The limitation of the maximum size of a HARD drive internal that I could use with my Satellite Pro M30 - 813, what exactly?

    Recently, I bought and installed seagate SATA drive of 160 GB, on which I installed WXP Pro and have been running for a while with no problems. Recently, I've been copying large amounts of data to an external hard drive to my new internal drive, and that the files have been copied, as I noticed have about 50 GB of free space left, I knew windows "delayed write failed" and a failure of massive wall without the possibility to recover the data. The system would no longer boot time and the entire MBR has been damaged. As a result, I lost all the data on my new drive.

    Well, I realize that Toshiba is not responsible for additional hardware that I use with my computer laptop and who is not officially supported by Toshiba, I am sure that as an end-user of a Toshiba product, that I have the right to know a lot information of limiting size of HDD for my model of laptop. So I ask, representing technical support Toshiba to give me an official reply directly to my question.

    Thank you in advance,

    Andrejs

    (You can also contact me private my e-mail address)

    Hi Andrew

    > The question should mainly be addressed to Toshiba authorized support staff
    I think that you are in the wrong place if you are looking for a response from an authorized Toshiba support.
    This is a user to user Toshiba forum! You will here meet passionate and Toshiba laptop owner who share knowledge and trying to solve the problems, but no one of Tosh :(

    I could give my experience with Satellite M30 and HDD upgrade possibilities.
    To my knowledge the M30 Sat supports a 40 GB, 60 and 80 GB HARD drive for sure.
    In my opinion, you can use the 100 GB HARD drive, but more large HARD s drive will not run and works correctly.
    So go to a smaller size of HARD drive and enjoy the laptop!

    I've goggled a bit and found compatible drive HARD and part numbers
    HITACHI GBC000Z810-> 80 GB
    HITACHI GBC00014810-> 80 GB
    TOSHIBA HDD2188B-> 80 GB
    HITACHI G8C0000Z610-> 60 GB
    HITACHI G8BC00013610-> 60 GB
    TOSHIBA HDD2183-> 60 GB
    TOSHIBA HDD2184-> 60 GB

    I hope this might help you a little!

    Best regards

  • Satellite Pro M30: new HARD drive - what is the max capacity?

    Hello

    My Toshiba Satellite Pro M30 is 4 years old with a 60 GB hard drive (IDE).
    I would like to replace the hard drive with a bigger. What is the best? (BIOS version 1.70, Windows XP Pro SP 3).

    I would be happy not only to get the answer to my question but alos to where I might find the answer myself.

    Thanks and greetings
    waltgallus

    Hello

    As far as I know the laptop is equipped with an ATA-100 IDE / ATA-6 HARD drive controller.
    In this case, you will need to use the 2.5 IDE HARD drive.

    I know with certainty that this notebook would support 80 GB HDD, but generally a larger HARD drive should also be possible because the controller is able to manage the 48-bit LBA.
    The 48-bit LBA can handle hard drives of more than 120GB.

    In my opinion, you can try a 120 GB and also 160 GB HARD drive should be possible.

  • Satellite Pro M30 and eSATA

    Hi all

    I recently bought the external drive western digital mybook premium ARE. This disc has an eSATA (external SATA) port.

    The problem is that my satellite pro m30 (model #: psm35e0021jar) is not the external SATA port. I found an ADDONICS (eSATA, ExpressCard 34) and another similar product from SIIG (eSATA II Express Card).

    The question is:

    1.) these products going to be compatible with my fairly old laptop?
    2.) is the hard drive of my laptop SATA technology is or what?
    (3.) what brand of motherboard used in my laptop?

    Thanks in advance and I cannot wait for the answers.

    Hello

    1.) these 3 products of third parties are not known to me, but as you know the Satellite Pro M30 does not support a SATA interface and if you want to upgrade the HARD drive, you will need to use the HARD disk with interface IDE (ATA-5) increased.
    (2.) No, as indicated above the laptop supports the IDE and not SATA
    (3.) the Satellite Pro M30 using motherboards Toshiba ;)

    A hint; If you have a SATA HDD, you can use it as a external HARD drive. This HARD disk can be connected via external USB sata controller.

    Hello

    I have a Satellite Pro M30 and the optical block has problems, recognizing most of my DVDs.
    I want to change the drive, does anyone know which are the models compatible with this machine?
    The real player is Toshiba DVD - ROM SD-R6112.

    Thank you

    Hello

    As far as I know this unit has DVD +-R/RW (DualDrive) and in my opinion the best solution is to swap it with the same. On this way, you will be sure that everything works correctly.

    Unfortunately, there is no public document on the hardware upgrade and just Toshiba service partners can tell you more about it.

    Good bye
