Satellite Pro P100 - replacing the HARD drive internal

I have a Satellite Pro P100 with a concert of 60 internal HDD and would like to replace this with a 250 or 320 GB drive.

Anyone can suggest a way to imagery of the current drive and copy this back to the new drive without having to re - install the operating system and other installed software?

I have a couple of USB 2.0 external drives with sufficient capacity.

Hello

You first need to know if the more drive HARD 250 GB or 320 GB would be compatible and if the BIOS recognize this HARD drive without major worries!
The problem is that not all HARD drive sizes are supported by the BIOS.
Then all first check if the new HARD drive are supported!

You ask how to get all the files on the new disk? I recommend good reinstall the OS from the recovery CD. It would be to reinstall the OS, drivers, tools, utilities.
If you have other files such as mp3, etc it then backup to the external USB HDD.
Then you could connect this HARD drive to the laptop and could transfer it on the internal HARD disk.

Greetings

  • How to replace the hard drive internal on Satellite 2450?

    Hello!
Last month, after a BSOD displayed (I don't have the code of error message, unfortunately) my laptop decided to not work again.
At the start, he reached the start menu and then displays a black screen... no message, no auto restart... nothing. Just a weird noise coming from the hard drive (like a scratched cd).

I tried to format the drive, but without success. After choosing the boot source, trying to read the cd and the black screen appears again, with no message. I checked if the Bay of cd is not working properly and it is. (I think)
So I replaced the HDD in my satellite 2450. A new toshiba ide 2.5 30 GB hard drive. But when I install a new one, the system does not recognize.

The control panel of the Bios says that "no hard disk" is available, and I can not change this option. (locked)
With the Windows Xp cd in the drive, the Setup program runs all properly until the 'select drive' format menu, witch says that no hard drive is recognized (with a new drive hard in).

I don't really know what to do!
Is something missing in this process?

    Thank you for the patience

    Hello

The laptop did not recognize a new HARD drive. Which is one reason why Win XP cannot follow the additional installation steps

I can't say exactly why the HARD drive is not recognized, but the 30 GB IDE should be ok.
I remember one of my friends had a similar problem with the new HARD drive.
Some hard drives have a jumper (3.5 HARD drive and 2.5 IDE HARD drive too)
Maybe you should check if a rider has been set to the right position (slave?).

Check it otherwise that I recommend to test with another new HARD drive

In the worst case the disc HARD controller might be faulty, but it would mean replacing a motherboard

I replaced the concert of 80 hitachi Moose with a new concert of 500 hitachi. When I try to launch the boot disc that came with the computer it says loading windows then goes to a recovery mode and I can't function.

Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thank you

At this point, it would be interesting to know if the same thing would happen with 100 GB HARD drive. Do you get the such or similar HDD somewhere for testing purposes?

It's that you can't manipulate image recovery and recovery installation procedure. Either it works or not.
To be honest, I'm a little surprised by your upgrade. I can't imagine that a small car can work with stronger engine 10 times. What do you think?

Tried the 'recovery cds', but get an error message 'error #1537 file greater than 4 billion number' and recovery has been abandoned halfway after inserting the third cd. The XP Home operating system does not install completely. Any suggestions?

    Hello

already tried the recovery process more then once? If so, the error appears at the place of installation? You said that you have installed a new hard drive but actually you have formatted the hard drive before you perform a full restore? That would be really helpful, sometimes recovery is suspended because the disk formatted or partitioned before luckily.

You should really try. One way would be to use the "UBCD4Win' which is a Windows Live CD with really good tools. Format your hard drive with this CD and retry the recovery. Maybe it works...

    Here´s the link to the CD "UBCD4WIn": www.ubcd4win.com ".

    Bye and good luck

  • Satellite Pro P300 - remove the HARD drive to make a backup?

My P300 went to my local store to repair for a network card problem. I thought it was just a software problem or driver, so I wasn't worried that my machine is still under warranty. After investigation, they stated that they could not resolve the issue, so would be to reformat and reinstall the OS, they thought they should solve the problem.

To my horror, I found that they had broken the seals of guarantee and open to the top of the machine. They claimed the only way to save the P300 before reformat it, is to remove the HARD drive!
    Is this true?
(It turns out that a broken chip is to blame, but because they violated the warranty, Toshiba will not touch!)

Can anyone say about this the removal of HD to support it please?

    Hey,.

Normally it of not necessary to restore the factory settings with to remove the HARD drive but don t you worry about this. The laptop can still be opened from a service provider authorized without losing the warranty.

I also put t know why they did, perhaps they have checked the material. It would be possible because they have professional diagnostic tools.

But interesting to know whether or not your problem is now resolved?

No, I don't think laptop IDE drives were made in sizes more than 500 GB. And the greatest, I see out there in any quantity is a 160 gig. This 320 gig was great, I could find on eBay right now:

Since you have replaced the hard drive and you try to install Windows on the new drive. Whenever the hard drive is replaced, the operating system must be reinstalled and restore all data you have saved

You can check out the link and check if it helps:

  • How to replace the hard drive with an SSD on a model of end 2011 MacBook Pro 15 inch, A1286

    Hello

I would like to replace the hard drive on my model of end 2011 MacBook Pro 15 inch, A1286 with a disk solid state drive (SSD). First of all, I would like to know if this is possible. Second, what is the best way to do it? I'm under the Yosemite OS if that makes a difference.

Here are some technical details of my current system:

-MacBook Pro 15 inch, late 2011 model A1286

    -OS yosemite

    -16 GB of memory/RAM

    -Currently using stock HD

All instructions step by step would be helpful with what software should I use to make backups of my current operating system (e.g., SuperDuper). I would also like to know what tools or material I need like type of screwdriver, cables to transfer data to the SSD, etc.. My goal is to not have to reinstall each app one by one on the SSD, but if that's the only way to do it then it's okay.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You can see instructions OWC here. Tools are mentioned in the discussion (I used a plastic knife picnic with the stronger edge somewhat blunt for nylon pry tool). I suggest you invest in one of these external fences. Install the SSD in who and clone internally externally with CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper. Then move the external drive of the internal drive after the start of the SSD in the external to confirm the operation.

  • Re: Satellite P200-178 - how to replace the HARD drive?

Is it really possible to replace the HARD drive on this model? I have another satellite & which was 2 screws & pulling on one leg, job done.

The P200 has an opening apparently get actually on the HARD drive but it gets you on the underside of the car, so I think that you will have to pass the upper part by means of the keyboard.

Can anyone help? I lost 70 pounds on a HARD disk that cannot be mounted?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

As far as I know on all models, it of possible to swap the HARD drive.

According to the user manual on the underside of the laptop it is a case of HDD for HDD1 and HDD2. This coverage is provided by one or two screws, I think that should be deleted. After that, you are able to exchange the HARD drive.

Take a look on the underside. HARD drive swap is not complicated and can be done in a few minutes. :)

  • Satellite L300-A13 - how to replace the HARD drive?

I need to replace my drive hard because I got a disc error and I could hear noises from him. Someone knows the size of the current hard drive replace (either 3.5 SATA or whatever it is)?

No space memory but actual size, so it can fit inside my computer and someone know a tutorial to replace by yourself?

    Hello

To replace the HARD drive, you need a 2.5 HARD drive SATA interface. These 3.5 HARD drive you want to say are only for desktop PC s peut t used in laptops to buy a 2.5 so one.

But it makes no difference which manufacturing you buy the HARD drive or the size. Just look for a 2.5 HARD drive SATA interface.

Replace the drive is pretty easy: just remove the two screws on the underside of the cover of the HARD drive. You can exchange it.
I know because I have the same laptop. ;)

  • Satellite Pro 6100 - error "password HARD drive built-in" at startup

Hi, my laptop (Satellite Pro 6100 P4 - M 1.7 GHz/15TFT/256 MB / 40 GB/DVD-CDRW/LAN/WiFi/BT/W2K or XP) started rather recently invited me with a "Built-in HARD drive password" message at startup upward. I never put no password on the hard drive in the past, though only in desperation to try to get the laptop running, have tried all the possible passwords I have ever had. Nothing works and I'm failed with a laptop dead on my hands. I would appreciate any help/advice anyone can make.

    Thank you.

    Hi Khurram

Unfortunately I think that you will need to replace your hard drive. If your laptop is definitely ask a HDD password then there is no way around it and the only way I know to recover from this situation is to send the hard drive to a specialised company that specialize in this kind of recovery (usually for forensic purposes, Police, armed forces, etc.). This can be very costly.

The easier (and cheaper) option would be for you to replace the hard drive and restore your system and your data (either from a backup if you have one, or from the Toshiba recovery disks).

    Kind regards
