Satellite Pro U300, ExpressCard, and Windows XP

Hello

I recently brought a U300 laptop - 13p and I'm having some trouble using the ExpressCard location. When I insert the Express card, it is not being detected by the laptop. As part of the diagnostic process, I was just wondering if the U300 - 13p supports Windows XP ExpressCards. I installed XP from the recovery media supplied with the laptop.

Initially, I thought that this could be a hardware failure, and so the motherboard on the laptop was replaced and so has the Expresscard card that I am trying to use. So, I wonder if the problem is related to the device or Windows XP drivers.

Thank you.

Drivers designed for laptops are changed and adapted to provide performance fairly, but not to force a graphics card to run on the limit. As you probably know there are big difference between office and mobile graphics cards.

Desktop graphics cards have no limits with cooling and drivers can be updated very often. Design of portable computers is completely different and all hardware components are placed on the square. The common problem with laptops is to design the system of cooling, small but effective.
Because of all these reasons, display drivers must be tested and adapted by the laptop manufacturers. The main point is to protect the material. The same situation is with other manufacturers of graphics card. They don't offer drivers for laptops.

If your graphics card will blow that will be responsible for this Toshiba or Intel?

By the way: Satellite Pro U300 is for me a laptop of small business and certainly not designed for games. Do you agree with me?

  • Re: Satellite Pro U300: critical battery Vista hibernate problem

    Hello

I have a Satellite Pro U300 PSU31E and have problems with the critical level of batteries and hibernation since I got it.

    It comes with Vista Business

Critical battery level is set at 2% - is the the strage thing if I hit Hibernate mode (via the power button or start > Hibernate) it have hibernated ok - even at 2% remaining battery. However if I leave it to do this automatically (via the action of critical battery and critical battery level Windows) he died just in hibernation - looks like it ran out of power. The only way I can operate automatically through Windows is by setting the battery level critical to 8% (he dies still in hibernation on what whether it is less than 8%).

Normally you would just say ok the critical low level must be higher but one) why when I Hibernate manually less than 8% is working perefectly and b) put 8% loses me a good a few minutes! and (c) especially the computer or the battery do not think they are flat at 8% - then, the problem is that it allows you to restart. When the computer starts less than 8%, he has already missed his firm critical point 8% so then just down and down with no further action of the battery until it dies. My XP laptop would be closed, then the computer would know the battery is flat and do not allow a restart up to the critical load of 3%.

What is one thing Vista or Toshiba?

Probably not the battery I have 2 with exactly the same problem

I have all the latest drivers for the power and Vista SP1 and latest version of the BIOS

    Thank you

    Hi David

I think it s not a Vista problem or question Satellite U300.

The point is that the OS Vista needs a lot of resources and more energy than the older Microsoft operating systems.

Always is it that same laptop with pre-installed Win XP would be a lot more time using the power of the battery as with Vista OS.
Vista is a monster and he eats all the material resources.

This means that if you use the Vista operating system, you must set the parameters of critical battery at a higher level to make sure that your laptop (Vista OS) would end Hibernate process correctly.

I think that the last 2% of the battery power is simply not enough to put the laptop into hibernation mode.

So don't worry, relax and enjoy your beautiful baby ;)

    Welcome them

When you use FN + F11 small control LED must be lit and the keypad must be enabled.
If your laptop is preinstalled with Toshiba recovery image this option SHOULD work correctly.

So nobody here knows what you did with your laptop and why these options are not available more.
Before you start with advice how to get this working again once please let us know what operating system is preinstalled on your Satellite Pro U400.

  • Windows 7 on Satellite Pro U300

    Hello

I wanted to know if someone had tried to install Windows 7 on a Satellite Pro U300.

I've heard that there are some problems like drivers, for example. Back at the Office I had tried to install Windows 7 on a Dell desktop computer and installed successfully with no problems at all. With the exception of a few drivers without importance, everything seems to be ok and all this after a new installation of the operating system. I'm a bit on the backfoot to try such a blow on my laptop. I read somewhere in the site Web of Toshiba laptops this year buying will support Windows 7.

I bought mine last year and it comes preinstalled with Vista professional I found so irritating performance wise and I have it downgraded to Windows XP, which always runs smooth and fine. So I was wondering, if I had to install Windows 7 on my laptop, drivers Vista will be useful or so I have to wait until I have find suitable drivers who would take time to find.

    Hoping to see your suggestions.

    Praveen

    Hello

Of course, you could install Win 7 on this laptop
But you won't find the official Win 7 drivers for this unit.

You can try to install drivers from the beta version of Windows 7 that I found on the Toshiba page us but I'm not quite sure if all drivers would be compatible

But don t give up dude. You could try to bring together pilots to hand clean looking on some 3rd party pages
Most of the drivers for common parts must be available

Since I bought my computer happens but not on startup. When I'm with her, she just freezes, makes a loud noise and I can't do anything to turn off, I need to use the same radical technique! Hold the reset button and sometimes I need to remove my battery.

I hope that we will find what's wrong.
Ah! Now I use windows 7 and Vista and the problem happens both...

    Thanks in advance,

    Hi fefalm,

If you have this problem, because you bought your computer, why you didn t contact a service provider authorized to solve the problem or ask a seller for a replacement one?
If your laptop is still under warranty, contact the nearest authorized service provider!

If that happens on different operating systems, it seems to be a malfunction of the equipment. Theoretically, it could be related to the HARD drive or another part

The HARD disk, you can test with special diagnostics as Drive Fitness Test Tools. ask Google to find.

Still, there is no sound in my system. Not at all even when I load the sound system.

I checked under sounds and Audio Devices Properties (Control Panel). Everything is disabled.

    Hey,.

    What operating system you have?

You must install Service Pack 3 for Windows XP, because it contains important fixes for the sound card drivers.

  • Satellite Pro U300 OS does not recognize PS/2 Port TouchPad

    I have a similar problem.

My system doesn't recognize that the PS/2 Port TouchPad exists on my Satellite Pro U300. He acknowledges that it no longer works but when I go to Control Panel then mouse it does not appear in the list of devices.

    Help!

    Hello

I m do not know what problem describe you exactly.
Do you mean that your notebook computer touchpad no longer works, or did you mean the USB mouse?

If you mean touchpad, so you should try to reinstall the driver for the touchpad.
The European driver Toshiba page provides Synaptics touchpad drivers series Pro U300 for Win XP and Vista.
But generally the operating system should automatically recognize the touchpad and touchpad should work even using the common internal Windows driver.

  • Satellite Pro U300 (PSU31E) - freezes on the Welcome screen

    Hi all

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro U300 model no notebook 01900REN PSU31E purchased as new and connected to Windows XP.

It worked perfectly fine for about a year until very recently when it started freezing on blue welcome screen. I had to disconnect the battery because it has not proceeded past the blue welcome screen. I ran the antivirus avast but it nothing of the detected note. Now even when I disconnect and reconnect the battery the screen does not go beyond the Welcome screen blue even if the mouse is moved again, and occasionally the pointer arrow-pointer to sand-clock pointer initially and then rest as arrow-pointer changes. Pressing buttons, Ctrl + Alt + Delete, using the mouse or the battery are not any good.

I backed up things but not until recently. Please help me, I'm an amateur like these sorts of things, I'm English teacher from teaching professional so I really need materials and capabilities of the laptop. What should I do, please help!

    Thanking you in advance,

    Hey the view,.

Have you tried the same thing in safe mode? Go to the advanced boot menu by pressing F8, select Safe mode.
    Check it!

It of really difficult to say why this is happening but if it doesn t work I think that it s time to reinstall Windows. So take the Toshiba Recovery disk and boot from it. If you follow the instructions on the screen you get factory in minutes! :)

  • Satellite Pro U300 shows "Unmountable_Boot_Volume" message

I hope someone can help me...

I have a Satellite Pro U300 and recently she comes with a stop with the message Unmountable_Boot_Volume error screen.

Starting the machine, told me that windows did not start properly due to a problem of HW or SW. I gives me the options to start windows normally, go back to the last good configuration known or open in safe mode, however all these lead to the error message Unmountable_Boot_Volume.

I am responsible to ensure that all new HW or SW is installed correctly and disable them if necessary. However, I have not installed anything recently and the computer was working fine.

The error message appears for 4 seconds, and then the computer restarts and appears with the same startup message and continues in this circle reboot after each stop error message.

I'm not a computer whizz as you probably can, but I would be very happy if someone knows what happened to my computer!

Sometimes the file system can get damaged due to power outages or viruses or bad RAM.

First of all, you should check the disk for bad sectors. Run the test Advanced in DFT (it is a bootable CD or a floppy disk):
    http://www.HitachiGST.com/HDD/support/download.htm#DFT

Then, try to fix the file system by plugging the drive on another PC using a USB 2.5 "SATA HDD adapter. Run CHKDSK on the drive.

If this does not work, you can try to repair Windows by going to the Recovery Options in the Windows Start Menu (press F8 before Windows starts).

  • Satellite Pro U300: Error Message: cable is disconnected, but Lan cable is connected

    Hello

I have problem with interface ethernet (wired) in my Satellite Pro U300. I use in many places (home, office, customers) and when I restore in sleep or hibernation mode interface ethernet shows that the * cable is disconnected *, despite the connection of the cable * is * connected and works perfectly with all other devices, laptops and PC.

The switch also shows that the there no signal link. But re - activate the malfunctioning ethernet port, just disable the ethernet interface and then after 5s (1 s is too short!) turn on.

Then a baloon in taskbar window indicates that there are 10 Mbit/s link, but actually, the link works at 100 Mbps (I can see it in the connection status window and the ethernet LEDs switch). This is the only laptop that has this kind of problems.

I have the latest version of the installed ethernet 5.664.205.2007 driver on Win XP SP2.

Is it possible I'm getting rid of turn on interface ethernet several times per day (except change laptop)?

    Hello

I put t have a real solution but I have a few proposals of solution

First of all, you should check in Device Manager if the network card has been properly recognized. The Ethernet card should be listed under network without any yellow exclamation point cards.

If the network adapter has been properly recognized, then the next step should be checking the properties of the LAN connection.
There, you should check the properties of the TCP/IP protocol.
The settings such as IP address automatically get & address of DNS server automatically get must be marked.

    Greetings

  • Satellite Pro U300 BIOS update BACK

Anyone know if I can upgrade the BIOS of my Satellite Pro u300 from a floppy boot BACK, or another way to do an update without Windows? The downloaded utility seems to work only in Windows, I do not use.

I tried to launch a live Windows CD (BartPE and Ultimate boot CD) but it does not start or shows no graphics.

I have problems with some hardware and hopes that an update of the BIOS.

    Thank you.

No, you can not day BACK because Toshiba driver BIOS European page provides only the version of the BIOS win.

For an update of the BIOS BACK you would need an update of the special BIOS that is not published on the page and is available for Toshiba technicians!
