Satellite s2800-200 has gotten more slow

With Zone Alarm and and other programs anti-virus installed etc. my laptop got much slower. I defragment regularly, have a total of 192 MB of RAM - use only 3 GB to 10 GB on my drive C. AM still on Windows ME and I am on BT broadband.
Use: mainly for emails and building site, I want to get and install the MS Excel program.
I would like to Win XP and a faster processor, I'm in the North London area. Comments or advice please?

Hi donaldo,.

I have a Satellite 3000 100 850 PIII with 256 MB of RAM. I also installed an Antivirus program that got the laptop slower.

After starting when the Antivirus program launches the app was very slow! I tried different programs such as ZoneAlarm and so on, but this has not solved the problem!
I ask a few computer freaks in my work and they told me that such a 'slow' processor as mine is very slow and that there are no resources!
It sounds stupid, but the new generation of antivirus programs need a fast processor and more RAM.

Maybe an upgrade to XP is reasonable, but the faster other upgrades like CPU hardware is not possible!
Sorry!

  • Satellite X 200-20 sec runs slower with the new motherboard

I wonder if anyone can help - under warranty I just got a replacement motherboard. (Before replacing the computer turned off within 10 seconds of startup). Replacement of the computer being runnning to about 90% of the speed that it was working before replacement. I spoke with the support from Toshiba claiming that without "concrete facts" on the speed there is nothing they can do (ie. they book in). In a way, it's just, but this is just simply not as good as before and various tests I did (which they claim to be subjective) always show that the computer is slower.

Toshiba support really like the performance index Windows (WEI), I currently have like 4.8 - I think it's the same as it was before the replacement - but I've read that even if it is not that reliable. Can anyone with a 200-20s X please tell me their score of WEI and a 3DMark 06 score?

After replacing the motherboard I also got a new disc (BD - ROM) on E: of course is not X 200 - 20s model Blu - Ray so means that the motherboard is different from the original, although the part number is apparently the same (according to Toshiba support).

I would like to know if anyone else has had a similar problem, and if they were able to find a solution. I am aware that the warranty expires in November and therefore make things quickly if something can be done.

If you can help, let me know.

    Thank you very much!

    Hello

Have you tried to change Windows settings power management?
    To do this.
The power of Windows Vista and Win 7 management controls the CPU performance.

  • Satellite 2800-200; is it possible to upgrade the memory and HARD drive capacity

    Hi all

my computer is a Toshiba Satellite S2800-200 (old) and I wont to ask if it is possible to upgrade memory capacity and disk.

    Thank you

Of course you can upgrade these laptop parts.
The laptop seems to be equipped with an internal memory which is not removable.

    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=7168&ft=m&St=3
According to the website above, you can use only one memory for an upgrade slot.
You can use the 144-Pin PC100 SODIMM 128 MB module. It's max.

I m not 100% sure on the HARD drive, but as I m not trunk not the laptop came with 10 GB HARD drive. Generally, a 20 GB HARD drive should be possible.

    Hello

May I ask how you installed Win XP?
Did you change the SATA mode on compatible in the BIOS settings?
If yes then this problem is related to the missing SATA drivers!

You can find the SATA drivers in the Intel Storage Manager which is placed on the page of European disk from Toshiba!

Launch the .exe with the settings file a p

For example (the files will be unpacked in the storagemanager folder):

    c:\downloads\iata_cd.exe - a c:\storagemanager Pei

  • Satellite L300-1 has 3 - slow start WinXP SP3

    Hello everyone

Recently, I installed Windows XP (service pack 3) on my laptop * Satellite L300-1 has 3 (Dual core T3200, 3G of RAM) *.
There is a problem: starting time on the computer and enter in Windows is too long (about 60 seconds)
I have not any application on my laptop, and I didn't have this problem when it had Windows XP (service pack 2)
Would you please help me on why this problem exists?
    Thanks for your cooperation!

You must determine what is the cause of the delay. It could be a driver incompatibility.

Google "Bootvis". Its a Microsoft utility that records everything that happens during startup and displays a grid with delays in the services, drivers, peripheral, etc...

  • Re: Satellite X 200 - 20F - slow pace after BIOS update

    Hello!

    I have a Satellite X 200 - 20F bought about 4 years ago. I changed the bios 2.70 recently and I had a problem when I play games:
The performance of the laptop suddenly decrease after a few minutes of play. For example, when I play Fable 3 + or + + Duke Nukem Forever + the framrate goes to 10-15 fps of 40-50 fps. I need to restart the game to correct this, but even that, the problem come back...

I used version 1.40 BIOS and no problem.

    What should I do?
    You have one advise?

    Thanks in advance,
    Direct them best.

    Hi Crowzer,

I m wondering that you did a BIOS update if you didn't have any problems before

I can only imagine that a BIOS setting is different now. So I recommend to load the default settings in the BIOS, then save & exit.

Try also to update your display driver. You can find the latest version on the official page of Toshiba also.

  • Satellite X 200-219 does not supply power to the top after intense use OpenGL

After programming for OpenGL and a case of "slow BONES" for a few minutes, the screen is blank.

I stopped him with force with the stop button and now there are no leads at all with battery or AC, it doesn't start at all, it is quite dead.

It is certainly not the AC adapter, for who has not shown initially, it does not start a led and

If the AC is connected, it's a very slight clicking noise and very light (must be the ear next to him to hear it, near the AC connector).

    Y at - it a hope?

I guess it's a burned motherboard. I figured a burnt but GPU which would still leave at least cover LED or at least try to start up. Now it is completely dead.

    It's a TOSHIBA satellite x 200-219.
There no guarantee, because it's more than 2 years since purchase.

  • Satellite X 200-251 lights after cleaning the speakers

Basically, my laptop is suffering from overheating problem because the fan should be cleaned. I decided to give it a go myself and unscrewed all the screws below etc, released the album cd and battery and removed the plastic Panel that covers the speaker who has the power button and other buttons on it.

So I decided to check the Internet for a guide on how to get to the fan. Ultimately he appeared more complicated then I thought and I dropped but I thought I might as well give the speakers clean up a bit because they were pretty dusty.

So I'm on a rag and a cotton swab with one end covered with Wd40 and began dusting off a cleaning. Then I put the Panel in place, put all the screws underneath of the laptop and returned battery and plugged the power cable. But... When I pressed the power button would not turn on!

The small lights that indicate to the laptop is plugged in and the battery is in are turned on, but nothing happens when I try and turn it on. Also I can't get the cd player to stay, it keeps slipping out! I would really apreciate to help here!

BTW, the model is satellite x 200-251

    _ * History: * _

Don't know if it's not important, but just to let you know, so interested what happened at the laptop ;)
I bought the laptop in the form of computers (in the Netherlands) asked that laptop mentioned above, with 2 things have changed. I wanted more memory, and I wanted windows XP. The shop told me it was possible. They bought me the laptop, they replaced with memories of kingston memory. They installed windows XP instead of Vista. They portable worked at that very moment. So, I bought the laptop to work with 1 year warranty.
With the additional files given with the laptop, I could increase my warranty from 1 to 2 years free, so I did.

After a few weeks that I noticed that the laptop became real probably hot after prolonged use. But according to the manual, it was normal.
I used the laptop to the games, but also 2 months for a study of play. So I take several times at school in a backpack.
After using only not for school, I reinstalled Windows Vista 32 BIT

When a very uncertain when exactly, I noticed that it does (probably same problem as I have now) but I was really relaxed about, tried subsequently and in some way, it worked again. It happened maybe about 5 times in total.
Knowing something was wrong, I brought computers to the form. They checked. (No not showing me what they did to her) But he told me that I had nothing to fear.

After about 2 years, I actually sold this laptop to my mother. She used once or twice (she really looks like noob, just about computers in general, without even knowing if it should double click on the icons or not) she took him one or two times on TRIPS and they after about 2 years and 2 months... this problem happened.

My mom knows a guy and a friend of this guy, work a lot with laptops broken, who told me that the problem was the motherboard _ + _.

I decided to take it back to the shop. After a long class being there (about 6 to 8 weeks) (I go to the store like 15 times). The shop was able to tell me it was the motherboard. That the motherboard could not be fixed and a new way to expensive.
+ (I have known at this point, after the motherboard, what this laptop was not open yet. The screws were still new). +
Funny information (not for me), this period of about 8 weeks, in fact we me lies like... I left a message on your voicemail, I do not HAVE a voicemail... Sorry for the caps, but im still xxxxxx on these lies.

Therefore still believe in the shop... my laptop has gone... dead... but so since last week, I started looking into the laptop I... (Fixing)

    Hello

To be honest that s a very long history and I think that we can t help you here and tell you what the problem is exactly because it s just a user to user forum. I think that you need professional help technicians of laptop, they can check what the problem is.

According to your assignment I think that it s a hardware malfunction, perhaps the card mother, but this should be verified by professional technicians.

You need to contact a service provider authorized in your country. You can find a list here:
http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > find an authorized service provider

I m sure all you can specify with the ASP. The guys are really friendly and do a good job.

    Good luck! :)

  • Satellite X 200 - 25I - battery will not charge

I have the Satellite X 200-25 l running Vista Home Premium 32 - I have been too slow to ask about it, but the battery simply does not load. I tried to remove and plug the power several times as a 'solution' that someone suggested, but it has no effect.
I don't want to buy a new battery without first establishing that it is not a problem between the main system and the logic of the battery.

It has never been directly from new, but I didn't know it would fail completely. Thank you Bobby to Aberdeen, United Kingdom

    Hi bobbaxter09,

Have you ever tried to recharge the battery when the phone is turned off? So you can make sure that it s not related to software or drivers.

The battery can be recharged up to 500 times, and after that, it must be replaced. So, theoretically, it could be a malfunction of the battery and you need a new.

Therefore, you can contact a service provider authorized in your country. Guys can order all Toshiba original parts that they work properly with your laptop.

  • Satellite X 200 - 20 G: Question about BIOS 2.20

    Hello

Could you please bring me some lights on the warning that introduced the 2.20 BIOS upgrade:

*!!! * Upgrade BIOS from Windows XP BIOS only on VISTA BIOS V2.20 V5.10 or more! * *

I am mainly interested to understand what the relationship is with XP.

I have a Satellite X 200-20 G with the first hard drive with Vista (default configuration) and a XP Home edition on the second hard drive, and I use the menu of the BIOS to boot to one side or the other.

    Thank you
    Guy.

    Hello

On some laptops the BIOS must be updated to the XP version if the Win XP operating system has been installed.

The warning indicates that if you have already updated the BIOS to version 5.10 XP refresh you could again only at the version 2.20 of BIOS Vista.

But it seems that the version XP BIOS for Sam X 200 doesn't exist at this time and in my opinion you can neglect it ;)

  • Satellite x 200-21 x with the 8600gt sli - performance in Vista & Games

    Hello

    I'm new here.

So, I installed all the drivers brand new on my Vista Ultimate, but I noticed a few problems.

    1. where can I find or install turbo 1 GB memory... I noticed that in the screen parameters are the values not displayed as they should be written on information cards and Toshiba;
    2. in the exercise and more games I notice slow, bad performance with SLI mode market, with MSI updates of Microsoft especially for sli and nvidia, as well as 2 times 8600 GT with SLI where is performance?

I had downloaded all the drivers at Toshiba support page... and here are my results: in the image:
    Link: [http://www.moj-album.com/slika/289812/Rarvg0J6H37YPODv.jpg/#]

I would be very happy to tell me how can I improve my performance so that the games in Sli mode will go to 1024 x 768 with medium/high details in games like (Call of Duty 4, NFS Prostreet)?

    TX;

    Can someone with a Satellite X 200 and SLI in Geforce 8600gt tell me how to improve performance on my laptop and if its normally with the sli mode, with only 256 MB ram, graphic card 1024Mo all together and dedicated 767 MB, as seen on the link to my graphic card screen;

Because I think that the graphic representation must be better... and now I don't know what to do?

    On my Satellite X 200 - 21 X I run Vista ultimate, all the latest drivers from toshiba are supported, and I can't play games on the resolution of 1024 x 768 with medium details;
In COD4 is my default definition 800 x 600 all the way...

So what I expect help and answers.
