Satellite S3000 - Modular Bay HDD

I have a Satellite S3000-400 and I'm trying to set up a 30 GB 2nd HARD drive in the module Bay.

I bought a HARD drive announced under the name suitable for use in the modular Bay (part number pa3101u - 1 h 30) but was sent an equivalent Hitachi drive with 13g 1486 part number.

This disk came without HARD disc tray to install it in for insertion in the modular Bay S3000. Two questions

-Part pa3101u - 1 h 30 usually comes with the HARD drive that is already installed in the toolbar State S3000.

-What is the part number for disc HARD S3000 tray I need to install the HARD drive, I received today (and where can I get a).

Thank you
Phil

Hi Phil,

I should not worry the brand of the drive. Toshiba uses different brands in their notebooks. They all generically similar in terms of performance and physical dimensions.

I'm not sure about which country you are, but I suspect that you may need to get a shopping cart in the car to adjust S3000. Here is a link to a UK site, which may be able to help you: -.

  • Modular Bay for a satellite 2430

    Hello!

I bought a satellite 2430 201 recently, but there is unfortunately no drive CD or DVD, a floppy drive. So I contacted Toshiba and they told me to look at their online shop or contact a service partner.
In the online shop Toshiba DVD writer cost 279 euros!
Looking at the price for a standard slim (about 75 euros) DVD burner I have decided to buy one in a store and stopped an empty modular Bay for a DVD player. This n t easy at all, but eventually I found a service partner in Graz, who could order the modular Bay for me. I am sorry to say that the price for an empty modular Bay is at 75 euros.

If anyone knows where I can get a modular Bay for less than 75 euros? One of opportunity or self build...
    Thank you

  • Boot from the 2nd drive HARD modular bay adapter (satellite P20)

    Hello

I have a SP20-102 and I replaced the stock model with a 120 GB Seagate HDD and moved the original disc in a Module Bay HDD adapter.

Is it possible to configure things so I can choose which HARD drive to boot from at the start, i.e. it is by default on the internal HARD drive but I can't choose to boot from the HARD drive in the modular Bay?

I tried pressing F12 to boot device selection screen, but am unable to choose the 2nd HARD drive.

    Any ideas?

    R.

    Hello Robin

As far as I know that it is not possible to boot from the external HARD drive. It is not supported.

  • Satellite S3000 - X 11 - installation of display driver problem

    Hello

I am trying to install the display driver for my laptop and have downloaded the zip file "display-20080414134834' on the Toshiba site.» This file contains an update of the BIOS and the display driver.

Unfortunately, when you try to install the update of the BIOS I tells me I need to insert a floppy disk, which, unfortunately, is impossible because this model of laptop doesn't have a floppy drive! It only has a DVD player and not a rewritable to it. Second, try to install the display (failed with BIOS) update, I am told to insert the disc containing Setup.exe. I don't know if this is the aforementioned floppy or another CD may be supplied with the computer. If it however came with the computer, it is not in my possession now (it is a laptop second hand that did not come with any driver software).

My question is how should I install this update and driver without a floppy drive or a cd containing setup.exe? Is there a way to get around this? The file I downloaded was available only on the Toshiba site, so it doesn't seem to be a provision which does not either one of the things I'm missing.

If anyone can help I would be very grateful because this prevents me to play some computer games!
Meanwhile the generic driver is great for surfing the internet, etc.

Also, my operating system is Windows XP Professional.
    Processor: Celeron 1.1 GHZ

    Help, please!

    Thank you.

Satellite 3000 a Bay modular FDD and you can buy a. Autour Googling, I found the order number. It's K000810060. Check it out.

You can use this driver and put it in place of the optical disc drive, or you can use USB FDD. You can find it on eBay for little money.
Sorry but work around is unknown to me.

  • Satellite S3000-214: HD and RAM upgrade

I want to upgrade a Satellite S3000-214 with a new hard drive and RAM.
Anyone know how I can upgrade the HD? It is currently only 20 GB.
About the RAM, I tried to upgrade before but abandoned after Misco sent me upgrades wrong a few times. Does anyone know a supplier who could have a sales team could sell me the good memory?

    Any help would be appreciated.

It is possible to upgrade the HDD up to 30 GB.
The BIOS should recognize this format without any problem. You can use a simple 2.5 bus master IDE HDD.

It is also possible a memory upgrade for max 1024 MB

I would be very grateful to anyone who can solve this problem for me.

    Hello

    Please visit this site:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp

You can find a BIOS version 1.6. This BIOS has been changed to 08.01.03

On this site you will find descriptions; How to upgrade the BIOS
    IOS http://eu.Computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/FAQ.jsp?z=234&service=eu&from=faq_selection&CFID=B & FID = TRO0000000b07

But note; You only put the upgrade of the BIOS if you have serious problems with the laptop and if you 100% know if the BIOS update will solve this issues.
The procedure to upgrade the BIOS isn't very easy. The incorrect procedure may damage the motherboard. In this case, be careful.

  • Satellite S3000 - X 4: the screen is blank on the battery and network

    Satellite S3000 - X 4 with problems screen empty.
The machine works with an external monitor connected. BIOS updated to 1.60, latest video drivers installed on Intel site. Installed power of Tosh management. Screen is blank on the battery and the system. No obvious response to listen autour mainboard or FL Inverter - or monitor itself.

Have you tried to reduce video settings in the power management of Tosh as suggested by someone else. Is FL Inverter probably at fault - if yes, where is the best / cheapest place to get a replacement to the United Kingdom?

    Hello

As you know all the parts, you can order by the service partner. If you know what are the parts that you need you can also Google around a bit and I'm sure you can find enough hardware stores online where you can compare prices and order cheaper.

Sorry, I'm not from the United Kingdom and may not give you a good info. Also, do you want to exchange it only?

  • Satellite S3000 - turn on wanton

I have a strange problem with my Satellite S3000-100. I connect the power cable and all five LEDs come on and I can't switch on the laptop. If I leave for 10-15 minutes the lights then return to the correct display of the AC and battery and I'm able to power on. At first, I thought it was a problem with the battery, but when I remove the battery the same problem occurs. Then I thought that maybe it's the battery BIOS, but all the clock/date setting are correct and I get a message saying the setting changed. I must say that the laptop works fine it just the capricious problem where I sometimes have to wait 10-15 minutes and other times it works immediately.

I can't see anything in the manual about the error codes with the LED does not have the laptop give error codes beeps so I must say that I am another loss that think it is an internal fault like a dry joint or something. I would be interested if anyone else has experienced this or knows what is the problem and how to fix it.

    Concerning

    Hello

In my opinion in s manuals (not only for laptops but for all other electronic products), there are listed simple questions that can be resolved by the user himself. Others, more complex, the questions are for the service. First service has special diagnostic tools and it is possible to identify the problem. They have all the necessary equipment and finally, service manuals how to disassemble the specific product.
I hope you will agree with me on this subject.

It seems that the described issue is not simply as you think so. So first here on the forum we can only speculate what may be the problem. Second, you can be sure that someone here wrote the right thing 100% and have at least you know how any replacement and disassembly laptop parts. Probably not.

Problem described is quite strange, and I can say that it may be because of the electronic card (ESF). What do you think?

  • Studio XPS 8100 - how to remove the cover of the modular Bay?

I would remove the plastic cover of the modular Bay on the front of my venerable Studio XPS 8100 so I can install a USB 3.0 3.5 inch hub instead. However, I can't find instructions for it. In fact, I can't find any description of how to use the modular Bay.

To start: how to remove the cover plastic modular Bay?

Also: If someone has found the instructions on how to insert a player or another device in the modular Bay, I would be glad to know where I can find them.

    Hello rdunnil

I took off the glasses and I saw how the metal plate is attached. Applying light pressure with a screwdriver flat head will do the job. Exchange on USB 2.0 ports would also work: I found directions for the removed from their metal case. Whatever it is, I'm all set. Thank you for pushing me in the right direction. It is much more valuable than the useless, generic link you gave me.

    It will work or not?

    Hello

    > I became happy when I noticed 2 hard drive Bay. But there is no available sata connector!
    It's a bit confusing I'm wrong? ;)

The fact is that not every P200 can be improved with the second HARD disk even if the second HARD drive Bay is available.
The different P200 are equipped with different motherboards and not all mobos support 2 HARD drive controllers

Your laptop seems to be equipped with the motherboard that supports supports only a single disk controller.

  • Need to restore the system disk for Satellite S3000 - X 4

I ve an old Satellite phone, model type S3000 - X 4, but I ve lost its disk factory settings restoration. I ve loaded another version of Windows XP Home edition, I own but he doesn't he know s a laptop more than the custom of the fresh battery and I m constantly plugged in!

I ve updated Toshiba, but it remains straight isn t. Is it possible to get a replacement system restore disc for the this model please?

    Hello

Your ad is quite confused and I do not know is that you have problem with power sypply why you focus on recovery media. If there is a technical problem or if the battery is dead why you think that the recovery CD will help.

In any case, I think you will not have much chance to get a recovery media for this older model laptop. I checked the download from Toshiba site and there are only 9 different drivers and tools that you can install after the installation of Windows XP Home edition.

First try to configure Windows XP Home Edition. Later, we can discuss any problem of battery.
This battery is always the original, I mean one?

  • Satellite C660-1GK - C HDD partition problem

    Hi all!

I have the Toshiba Satellite C660-1GK for a year and a half. After 6 months, my hard drive is dead.

First the laptop has been really slow, then started the famous clatter of the disc.
I made backup and checked the disk with tools from Hirens. Toshiba diag will read even not she, Smart said that his State of health is bad bad sectors (30% or more), began to burst... I therefore took the laptop to my ASP.

They replaced the disc and then 13 months later (a week ago) the same story! Disk health went even lower (was 11%) and bad sectors initially jumping like crazy.
Once again, a trip to ASP.

I have my laptop today with a new drive. After that reading posts on this forum, I'm afraid that there or card mother/problem of power or we're just all with no luck with readers.

I just, I can't accept that the disks die randomly every 4-12 months to meet. My last drive on HP laptop lasted 4 years! I have about five more months of warranty and I'm really not satisfied with the situation. This laptop is on my desk, it has own station with nice, big fan so this isn't overheating - basically, I took out of the House in September.

I'm careful with it! But if the disk dies before the end of the year, maybe it's time to get a new laptop.
    Toshiba no, this time :(

Please, you have any ideas, advice... ?

    Hello

A few years ago, I bought a laptop from another manufacturer.
My first HARD drive died after over 2 years of use. I bought another, has replaced the old HDD and the new HARD drive died after 4 months of use.

No matter which HARD drive is going to die sooner or later because his part instrumentation it s a question of HARD drive use and the question of how you handle all.

In my opinion it s a bad luck of course sound always pity if a HARD drive starts to malfunction but I m afraid there are not many options to prevent it.
Of course, you can switch to a SSD drive which is stable in use. I did a few months ago, I bought the 250 GB SSD drive and replaced the internal HARD drive

  • Satellite P35-S609 - new HDD not accepted

    Hello

I am trying to install Windows XP (toshiba recovery CD) on a new hard drive Samsung HM160HC (160GB) on a Satellite P35-S609 but once the CD format the HD and copy all the files on the hard drive (to start installing XP) laptop does not boot from the hard drive, someone has an idea?

Obviously, the drive has no flaws, perhaps the bios V1.4 takes not more than 100 GB HD or I don't know if this is the limitation of Windows XP, the thing is he isn't still trying to start the start of HD - anyone have any idea?

    my email:
    [email protected]

    Hey Buddy,

Your new HARD drive is recognized in the BIOS?
You can install Windows on another drive?

Satellite P35 has old IDE interface and generally it s limited to 128GB HDD (> 120 GB). If the HARD disk is not recognized you use a 120 GB HARD drive only.

  • Satellite Pro A100-830 - HDD upgrade questions

I'm a complete noob so please forgive my silly question!

I would like to replace my laptop HARD drive, is there any combatibilty issues I should be aware of, or is it just a case of getting a HARD drive 2.5 "?

Is it easy to buy an external and use the internal drive inside the case?

This seems to be the best way to the value of doing. Specific recommendations?
    Thank you!

    Hi magicmat,

Generally upgrade the HARD drive is not complicated, and that's why you only have to remove the cover of the HARD drive on the lower side of your laptop to replace the HARD drive.

Satellite Pro A100 already use hard disks with SATA interface so you have such a HARD drive. In addition, I would recommend a 5400 RPM model because it s quite fast and doesn t a lot of power.

So that s what you need to know about upgrading. Theoretically, you can use the old or an external HDD with an external HARD drive enclosure. Also no problem. :)

  • Satellite L30-134 - after HDD upgrade PC freezes and won't start

    Hello
I upgraded my Satellite L30-134 of the standard 60 GB HDD for a new 120 GB. After that, I have the following problem:

    (1) after installing XP form to the recovery House DVDs works fine but after that 2-3 weeks of normal use it instantly freeze pc and after hard reboot the OP start up can do anything but to format the HARD drive. After that format cannot install original XP and Vista, the progress bar show me that the installation is complete but after reboot, nothing happens. This problem persists long wery. After 3-4 clean up one after another the pc starts and runs very well about 3 weeks. What is the problem? Any idea?

    (2) when I first install Vista or Linux PC is runing fine, but not in normal parameters. Always freeze but after hard reset works fine for about 2-3 days. When I install XP first that the PC is useles after hard reboot the only thing I can do is to format the HARD drive and do a clean install.

PS: The HARD disk is produced Original Toshiba.

    Hello

This strange boyfriend s but to me it sounds like that, these problems are caused from the new HARD drive that may be defective.

I think you should test the HDD using Hitachi Drive Fitness Test:
    http://www.HitachiGST.com/HDD/support/download.htm#DFT
With the Drive Fitness Test, you can test your HARD drive. Download the CD image, burn it to a CD and boot from it. You can then the HARD drive test.
On the same site is a user's guide if you want to know more.

Good luck and give us feedback, what happened! :)
