  Replacement is very, very tricky because you must remove the entire portable device.

  I just bought a Toshiba Satellite [T110-121 | http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/product/Satellite-T110-121/1080681/toshibaShop/false/] laptop and it's absolutely great in every way, but it connects to my router wireless less than 512 Kbps.

  I have an another Toshiba laptop, I am about to sell ([U30013U | http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/SUPPORTSECTION/discontinuedProductPage.do?service=UK&com.broadvis ion.session.new = Yes & PRODUCT_ID = 137279]) and the wireless speed is normally around 15mbps. All other laptops that were already connected to my wireless router are normally not less than 15mbps.

  The T110-121 is super fast when it is connected through ethernet, therefore, the problem lies only in the part things wireless.
  My router is a netgear dg834g, and I'm on DSL of the Virgin.

  The only major difference between my two laptops from Toshiba is the new are listed as being supported network: 802.11b/g/n connectivity and my oldest with the connection the faster is listed as: a/b/g. This would make much difference?

  I should also add that I removed all potentially problematic pre-installed software, such as Mcafee and I use Avast.

  Any help would be appreciated.

  There is a difference between simple standards of WLan 802.11 A, B, G or N.
  If your router supports 802.11 G or N then I would recommend choosing 802.11 N Router and the settings of the Wlan because the 802.11 standard card standard is the fastest and the most recent.

  Please check if the wireless network card is configured properly. You can do this in-Wlan card-> Advanced tab > Device Manager.
  You could improve also the unique parameters and performance of WLan.

  Last but not least, please check the Windows 7 power management because the WLan performance might be decreased in for safe battery power.

  An update of the WLan driver should be judged as well.

  I recently bought a T110-121. Turned on, set up Windows 7. Uninstalled MacAfee. Deliberately no connection to the internet at all. VET AV. Ran installed AV scan. Showed 2 Trojan horses.

  I don't think that I can reach the screenshots here, but they were the two instances (one in the sys32) and the other in sys64 under the file mfplay.dll Windows directories. VET was not able to clean or delete, or I could, because I don't have the permission from TrustedInstaller to do. VETERINARY said that the Trojan TROJAN horse. WIN32. HOMEPAGE.   Sorry, but to be honest, I'm sure that Toshiba or Microsoft distributes the horses of Trojan or virus with the new product.

  I think that your antivirus software gives you a false alarm and that's it!
  But about the antivirus, you wrote that you have installed "VET AV". I've never heard of this program, maybe that's the problem you have. This could be the Trojan disguised as antivirus program.

  In my opinion, you need to install a reliable antivirus program. AntiVir is a great freeware tool. Alternative, I recommend Kaspersky.

  Yes, that's normal and everything is ok with your laptop. Your HARD drive will be protected by HDD/SSD Alert utility which is a nice feature of Toshiba to avoid accidents of the head and can improve the lives of the internal HARD disk.
  But yoou can disable these notifications if you want. ;)

  I think that something goes wrong when installing recovery and thus you get a blue screen and can t install the WLAN software. The best option would be to run the recovery process.

  But why you can't reach t recovery more? I mean you can use HARD drive recovery as often as you like and you can start if you enter Windows Advanced Boot menu (press F8 before Windows starts) and choose fix my computer. Select Toshiba HDD recovery, then follow the instructions on the screen. Windows will be reinstalled with all drivers and tools.

  I just bought this model and there are alerts about updates of drivers. However the link will directly the specific driver file but the WLAN download support pages. However, the version of the drivers in download pages do not match the versions link alert. For example, WLAN LAN driver for Realtek RTL8191SE driver update is meant to be 2010-02-24 but the download page shows only a version for 2009.

  If so, forget all these updates. They are only needed if you have noticed a malfunction or something else. Otherwise it s not necessary to update something.

  I m not quite about this error message, but it seems that s associated with memory issue I/O (input / output).

  You mentioned a cursor blinking in the upper left corner.
  This symptom is already known to me. I had such a problem blinking cursor also and in my case it was related to abnormal or bad memory and HARD drive.
  I had to replace the HARD drive after all firstly by the modules of memory in order to solve this problem.

  From my point of few your question may be linked to the faulty memory because the I/O message is linked to problems of memory too.

  You said that Linux works properly using the Live CD?
  I guess you booted the laptop using this live cd but did not install the system on the HARD disk.
  Well, I don t think that this could be a clear proof that the RAM or HARD drive is OK.

  My son has a Toshiba Satellite Pro L20 with a broken hinge base plate. I'm calling it a base plate that I can not find the name of the part anywhere on the web so far.

  The question of the hinge on the Evny of HP is well known to HP, and yet they refuse to do much, if anything, to this subject.  If you are in warranty, they will typically set for free, no questions asked.  Out of warranty, however, it's like a completely different society.  They will be responsible of very varying amounts, from $130 to $300 to fix their own design flaw.   Here is a link to a long thread that I started to update others on the issue and my relationship with HP:
