Saving smart objects

How to register a dynamic object to create a jpg for electronic mail without losing the smart object?

Hi lsgrn2,

You can follow these steps export the contents of a smart object:

  1. Select the smart object in the layers panel, and choose layer > smart objects > export contents.

  2. Choose a location for the content of the dynamic object, and then click Save.
Photoshop exports the placed smart object in its original format (JPEG, TIF, PDF, or other formats). If the smart object was created from layers, it is exported in PSB format.

Here is a link to our page of Photoshop help create dynamic objects.

Alternatively, if you just want to share a JPEG copy of the publication that you created, you can go to the file--> save as. From there, you can select the JPEG format and save a copy of the file created (keeping the separate original Photoshop file). In this way, you can attach a JPEG file without losing the smart object original.

I hope this helps!

If a graphic artist made use of the dynamic in a file objects, and then when they "open" one of these smart objects, will be that load into memory (assuming that it has enough memory allocated), the disk scratch or - given that the dynamic object is 'stored' in the original file - the file work constantly read and writing directly from the drive the main file is saved to?

I'm certainly not an expert but I understand that Photoshop has always the image in RAM to be able to work on it. (SO or something else)  If this RAM is not enough then Photoshop uses the drive working to "expand" the RAM. But even if it is enough will always be used the drive working. That's why most people use SSDS for zero and regular hard drives for storage.

Remember that Photoshop is not the only one who is eating your memory. The operating system and a myriad of other programs and background processes all want their share...

I wanted to change my smart object but it won't save without giving me a background... What am I doing wrong?

As I said in my first answer is that you must use Save as and save it as a buffer or psb. You need to replace your happy smart object with the new saved file. No quick way to do it.

I edited photos in Lightroom to help edit in Photoshop using Smart Object.

I saved to Lightroom and I exported the final images very well... but

Obviously a noobie question, but how to see them again?

  • All my smart objects pixelated

I am past all recently to a new job with access CC, so I barely started to scratch the surface after migrating to CS5. There are a lot of things, even simple tasks, I am not aware of. At work, I have the last Photoshop, but at home, I still run CS5. When you work in Photoshop/Illustrator, I always import the dynamic objects in my workflow. After opening a document Photoshop CC full of dynamic objects in CS5, all my smart objects became pixilated. It's pretty useless to me. I opened PS CS6 documents with smart objects before and was able to open them in PS CS5 with dynamic objects intact. I don't know why is this now different in CC? I'm supposed to save a particular way to avoid losing my smart objects?

The new version can open existing files,

While the older versions of CS5 could open new files created with CC, but some features will not be supported.

  • Batch export smart object layers

    Hello.

At work, I need to make a few models of covers of DVDs, magazines, books, etc.. Sometimes, I have several options to do both, as 20 magazine covers. Usually, I'm doing 30 layers within the smart object that I use in my comp and go by turning each on, update dynamic object and saving with a different file name.

Is there a way to make an action that:

    1. Light (visible) has layers within a dynamic object.
    2. Save the smart object.
    3. Update in the main image.
    4. Save the image under a new name (if can be the name of the smart object layer, better).
    5. Turn on the next layer in the smart object and repeat.

    Does anyone have an idea?

    Thank you

    Luiz

Why so many composite of layers files.  I think that everything you need is a PSD with layer comp that would save different versions of the DVD covers in the form of flat jpeg files.

  • where can I find smart object in photoshop? Not the button but the actual location of the file.

Could someone tell me where to find the file saved to the dynamic object? I need to change my mac and all move to the new machine. I want to make sure I have everything, I'm missing all the PSB to smart object files. Where is he? and please don't tell me that I need to copy one by one to the temp folder that appear ONLY when I open the smart object.

Unless the dynamic object is a dynamic object-related, they are stored in the master file. There is no separate file. When you double-click and edit the file SO, it opens the PSB file in the OS temp directory and deletes this file once the main file is closed, unless you save it in another location.

  • How to make the placed images/vectors remain within the boundaries of a smart object?

    Hi all.

I have a question which I think has a simple solution, but it is difficult to find.

I have a photo from a greeting card with rounded corners. I made the greeting card in shape a dynamic object... I want to drop my vector art of cards in the smart object to create easy shots for a website (model model style).

My problem is this: when I stick my chart in the psb to smart object document, it remains within the limits of the object dynamic when I save it and return to the document .psd. for example if I fit my larger vector art, there will be a great vector art saved in the original psd rather than inserting in this "round card window. What I am doing wrong, that my account will be not cropping correctly? Same thing with if I try to add textures, they do not stay within the smart object... I'd appreciate your help with a simple solution. Some pictures below.

    Thank you

    2. the vector art. I paste in the dynamic object of psb document... Yet when I save the smart object and check related DSP, graphic design is great and not cropped within the smart object.

I have resorted to copy my smart object layer, drag it to the top and deleting a selection reverse... but there must be a much easier way!

Well,'re missing you a layer mask or a clipping mask to crop the content of coverage.

I would use a clipping mask, which makes life easier than a layer mask. As follows:

  • How to duplicate a smart object and then modify it, without affecting the original?

I have an element of vector illustrator that I am placed in a t-shirt mockup in photoshop. I have the provision essentially how I want, but I'm trying different color variations. I think that simply duplicate the initial placement and then change the color of the copy resulting, but this affects both the copy and the original. I looked into it a little further and found that I should try the option "replace contents" under smart objects, and that it would change the copy. Then I go back to illustrator, made a copy of the original vector and then the color change I had in mind and then saved as a separate document that I could use then by replacing the contents of the copy. However, still affects two smart objects!

I tried this like linked smart objects and smart objects shipped without success.

In the end, I just want to maintain the position of the original layer with the layer duplicated and edited. If you know a better way, please share!

Layer > Smart Object > new Smart Object by copy. It forks a new, independent so (cut and paste or duplicate maintains the link between them).

When you double-click the SO thumbnails in the layers panel, it opens the SO in the main application, in this case to have.

Do Save your changes (not save money, unless you want to distribute the SO in a separate file, normal).

  • Quality: Image in the smart object Conversion

    Hi all

I use an image for a contact on a business card icon, but the print quality of the image is bad.

Now this will help if I convert the image to a smart object and print the image like that? (The original image is much bigger png file I convert to smart object, and then resize it to the size of the icons)

    Thank you

    Why is this?

A vector smart object does not export vector data (and the claim has never been by Adobe as I know).

«A vector mask export vector data when saving pdf or eps with "include vector data".»

  • The PSB (textures 3D and Smart Objects) are stored in the PSD file?

The subject line is the main issue. But I have a few other questions: the PSB files are stored (in the Windows operating system) in the folder Temp of the user. Why? My Temp folder has a dozen PSB files with various dates. Is there a reason that they do not disappear when a PSD file is saved? Remains of the PS crashes?

Same questions for Smart Object PSB files.

    Thank you

Yes, a smart object is a container for a file embedded as a PSB (large Document of Photoshop), EPS, PSD, TIFF, PDF, etc.

Material 3D textures are incorporated in a document by using the mechanism of the SO.

    Sengstack wrote:

When you choose to edit a written Photoshop, SO the ER is incorporated into a temporary file and opens in a new window.

My Temp folder has a dozen PSB files with various dates. Is there a reason that they do not disappear when a PSD file is saved? Remains of the PS crashes?

Photoshop will normally remove the temporary file when the master document (the one containing the SO) is closed. If you wish, you can watch the creation and deletion of these files. An accident before closing the document master is expected to be the only reason that there is a PSB wandering in Temp.

  • Illustrator CS4 smart objects?

    Hello
I'm creating a vector illustration of an ipad or similar. I want to be able to retain the scale vector and have the ability to change the image of the screen of the ipad to a different image. The layer of the screen image is currently using a mask to define the area of the screen and there are a couple of top containg light layers that overlay the screen image.

I tried to select the current image and 'place' a new image, but I just get a new layer with an image caught on top of the previous image.

Can someone suggest a simple method to add the new image to the screen. The final file will be provided to people with even more limited knowledge of illustrator than me.

I also tried to export the image in photoshop and then transform the image screen in a smart object layer. Then clicking on the smart object to open the layer, drag and drop the new image on the smart object open and then saving it. This method replaces the image, but when I tested the scalability of the last image in photoshop by changing the size of the image to 10% and then back to the original size image has fuzzy edges. Maybe because some live effects in illustrator (e.g. blur, inner glow) are not not vector in Photoshop?

Thanks for any help you can provide

Thanks, so obvious. I was trying to over complicate things as usual.

  • Done save for Web rasterize smart objects before it is resized?

    Photoshop CS5

    Windows XP

    Backstory: (feel free to jump)

I do the webcomics, and the common practice to work in a very large size (like the 4000 x 3500) and throughout the last step down to the size of your target (something about x 1024). Sometimes, we use things like concrete or paper textures textures to Stylize our work. Often, because we work in very large formats, we can not find the texture we want in a high enough resolution to cover the entire file. In this case, we convert the texture to a smart object, so no detail is destroyed and resize it until our large size.

    tl; dr:

    Question:

When I use Save For Web and Devices... on a file with a dynamic object more large scale, will it reduce the dynamic being rescaled version? Or it uses the original data in the smart object and resize it only once?

Yes, it has to rasterize at the resolution of the document.

It uses the same data as if you flattened the document and then saved.

  • Develop Lightroom and raw Photoshop smart objects

I understand the function develop that Lightroom and Photoshop raw adjustments are the same.  So I adjust in one or.  I can then open the image as a smart object in photoshop. I can then perform other settings as an adjustment layer. I think it's the same as a function to develop Lightroom and Photoshop raw adjustments?  I understand the dynamic objects allows to edit not destructive and dynamic filters.

SO my questions are: when you would not open the image as a smart object? Surely that I should always open the image as a smart object?  If I want to make objects not allowed to smart edition as Clone Stamp I can then create a new layer and then apply the Clone Stamp to the layer, I can't?

Then, should I also convert all layers to smart layers or leave them as a normal layer.

Or third, I'm away from the track?

Check that the size of the file of this image saved under Camera Raw smart object... make sure that you ALWAYS want to use THE? Hope you have big hard disks...

Camera Raw Smart Objects are indeed useful especially when you want to melt renderings ACR 2 or more in a single file. But Smart Objects are a lot more limited than files regular pixel. Use them when it makes sense...

  • Camera Raw / smart object?

    Using CS3
    Scenario:
I turned 500 marriage images, sorted and retouched in bridge. Now, I'll look at each one in camera raw (at bridge) and make the necessary adjustments. I use CR and adjust / synchronize files similar whenever possible; zipping through the 500 images quickly and save without opening, then use the image processor to process all 500 images while I'm SLEEPING.
    Question:
Is there a way to Turkey / process 500 images and have saved later when I open them, they open as smart objects. Now if necessary I can take the dynamic object, go back in camera raw and make changes / improvements.
In Czech Republic, I know, I can check the box "open as a smart object", but that only seems to apply if I immediately open the file (or files), and then save them. It is not practical or feasible for select 500 files, open and save at the same time. If I save the Raw files to open later, (as in my workflow above) then it will not open as a smart object.
I checked on the Adobe Exchange website, but did not find any scripts or actions that would facilitate.
Anyone know if what I'm trying to do is possible and how?
    Thank you
    JeffN

A quick fix would be to change the Image Processor script. If you add the line

    desc.putBoolean (stringIDToTypeID ('smartObject'), true);

just before the line on 1546

    var returnDesc = executeAction (charIDToTypeID ('Opn'), desc, inDialogMode);

TIFF and PSD files will be saved with the raw as a smart object layer file. Of course JPEG files will be always saved as usual.
