Scan of found corrupt files that cannot be repaired by SFC

After problems with a recent update of windows which was followed by a restore failed, a black screen, then a system repair, I now have a number of corrupt dll files which result in "bad image" error messages when I start applications.

This does not stop at the launch, but is an irritation!

I ran sfc/scannow which reports corrupt files that cannot be repaired.

I have a 'backup' restore point in 2012, if I restored it, it would restore these files corrupt, or the only solution would be to use my factory restore disk?

You can have your problem of corrupted files, but do you know why the problem arose in the first place?

Please provide a copy of your system information file. Type the system information in the search box above the Start button and press the ENTER key (alternative is select Start, all programs, accessories, System Tools, system information). Select file, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. Not to place the cursor in the body of the report before exporting the file. The system creates a new information file system each time system information is available. You must allow a minute or two before the file is completely filled before exporting a copy. Please download to your OneDrive (formerly Sky Drive), share with everyone and post a link here. Normal mode preferred report. Please say if the report was obtained in safe mode.

Please download and share with everybody fresh copies of your System and your event viewer on your Player Application logs One (formerly Sky Drive) and post a link here. You can delete the earlier copy of your OneDrive records.

Please download and share with everyone your event to your OneDrive Viewer Application copies of your System and logs and post a link here.

To access the system, log, select Start, Control Panel, administrative tools, Event Viewer, in the list on the left of the window, expand Windows logs and select System. Place the cursor on the system, select the Action in the Menu and record all events (the file default evtx type) and give a name to the file. Do the same for the application log. Don't provide filtered files. Do not clear the logs so that you have a persistent problem.

  • System File Checker detects files from oembios that cannot be repaired

    I ran the System File Checker on my computer Dell Dimension, and he found files that cannot be repaired: oembios.dat, oembios.sig and oembios.bin. The computer has Windows XP with Service Pack 3 installed and was purchased new in December 2002. The original XP installation disk that I've ever used, a SP1 is installed.

    Event Viewer gave this message for one of these files after run the System File Checker. "The oembios.sig of file protected system could not be restored to its original, valid version. "The file version of the bad file is 0.0.0.1 the specific error code is 0x800b0100 [no signature was present in the subject.]."

    Everything works well, and these corrupted files seem to have no effect on the operation of the computer. I even ran a Seagate hard drive diagnostic test, and it passed. These files, compressed copies that are in c:\i386 and on the installation disc, be repaired and properly placed in their place in c:\Windows\System32?

    Thank you, Robert. I tried your suggested solutions.

    First, I tried expanding oembios.si_ of the CD on the e drive (CD player) after the reboot. But I got this message from the command prompt: "cannot open the input e:oembios.si_ file."

    Second, I tried to develop oembios.si_ of the c drive, where I know it exists in c:\i386. Yet once again, I got the same message that the input file cannot be opened.

    This has proved to be a sticky problem. Fortunately, my computer still works well. It is just that I do not have corrupt files hidden.

    HI Margaret,

    Thank you for your message.

    Looks like you have a virus or malware causing corruption.

    I suggest to update your Kaspersky Anti-virus definitions and run a full scan of the system.

    Also, make sure here's you have the Vista disc in the drive when you run SFC, where it gets the correct file information.

    Alternatively, you can try to perform a clean boot before you attempt to run SFC, to see if a startup program may conflict with it:

    Borrow a Microsoft Vista DVD(not Dell, HP, etc Recovery DVDs) to do a repair installation

    If you see a startup Neosmart repair disk download here, this is NOT what you want.

    You want a good Vista DVD that contains the operating system files.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    If you need a recovery media for your laptop back to factory settings, read this info:
    How to get Vista recovery Media and/or to use the Vista recovery Partition on your computer.
    There is no Vista free download legal available.
    Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.
    Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

    See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

    Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...

    Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Ask them if you can also make recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.
    They will tell you how to do this.
    Every computer manufacturer has their own way of making recovery disk/s.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
    A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
    The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

    There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

    If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

    IMO, if you have Windows XP or a newer version of Windows, not worth obsessed during defragmentation.

    That said, I offer the following comments:

    • Files that start \System Volume Information\_restore {... are your system restore points.  If things are running OK and you do not anticipate the need to restore to an earlier time, disable System Restore (which will delete all system restore points) and then turn it back on again.  Or just run Disk Cleanup and use remove all but the last restore point.
    • The \WINDOWS\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\G7HWHKBP\iTunes[1].msi file looks like a file cache of remains of Internet Explorer 5.  In any case, it is a setup of iTunes and you can safely remove.  In general, you can safely remove all in C:\Windows\Temp
    • I guess you kept all of these files in e-mail Netscape 7 for some reason, but if they had just neglected when you moved from Netscape 7 for any email application you use today, you can remove these establishments.
    • The normal Windows Defragmenter cannot defragment various system files, including the page file and the MFT, which are quite highly fragmented in your system.  I think that for this reason there is not enough contiguous space on your hard disk to defragment most of the other files in the list even if you have more than 9 GB of free space.

    To defragment the paging file, you can disable (or very small), restart and then set it to "system managed size".  To do this

    • Make a right click my computer and select Properties
    • Click on the "Settings" button in the box 'Performance '.
    • Click on the "Advanced" tab and the button 'Edit' under 'virtual memory '.
    • Click on "No paging file" and the "Set" key
    • OK your way out and restart
    • Defragmentation and then go back and put the pagefile "system managed size".

    A better approach, however, would be to use (free) PageDefrag, which defragments non only the pagefile, but both the Windows registry files.

    Microsoft has apparently made a utility that will defragment the MFT (on the restart), but you must call customer service to get it: http://support.microsoft.com/default.Aspx?scid=kb;en-us;320397 I used not this utility and cannot give you any information about it beyond what is in the Article.

    Some commercial defragmenters defragment the MFT (on the restart).  If they have trial versions, trial versions may include this feature, but I don't know.

  • When I run "sfc/scannow" he gave the following results; "windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them

    * O.T. AND NON-RESPONSE ERROR

    Hi, my laptop (Dell vostro) has been very slow lately, when I run "sfc/scannow" he gave the following results; "protection of resources windows found corrupt files but was unable to solve some of them"

    How ca I fix it please help

    Select Start, all programs, accessories, right-click right-click command prompt and click Run as administrator in the menu dropdown. Type or copy / paste: findstr/c: "[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log > '% userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt' and press the ENTER key. You will find a sfcdetails.txt file on your desktop.

    "Please note there are three spaces in the command: findstr - c/c/c, between [SR]" and%windir% between CBS.log and > ' % userprofile .

    Please download a copy of your file sfcdetails.txt on your OneDrive as a shared file and post a link here. Enter sfcdetails.txt in the search box above the Start button and press the ENTER key to locate the file created.

    Note The Sfcdetails.txt file contains details of every time that the System File Checker tool has been run on the computer. The file contains information about the files that are not repaired by the System File Checker tool. Check the date and time entries to determine the problem files that were found last time that you ran the System File Checker tool.

  • Outlook and printers do not work and SFC error Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to solve some of them.

    Separated from this thread.

    SFC all said above.

    Windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to solve some
    of them. Details are provided in convertible bonds. Journal windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log.

    I was hoping that fixing the above might fix below.

    I had 2 problems.

    In outlook I have about 300 deleted messages from the deleted folder and when I entered the box and they were all there. I did it again and it happened again. Finally I did drag the files to the junk e-mail folder and not empty and they were gone and he seems to have stopped.

    The other problem is with the printer profiles. I changed routers and had to reinstall the printers.

    They appear ok in devices and printers, but when I go to print all old printers appear. They are not in the Control Panel, just new, but the drop down menu select printer boxes have many printers that are not active or working more. I would like to get rid of them.

    Thank you

    Harv

    SFC checks really just a list of some of the most important files (such as those required in order to activate the system at a very basic level), and generally what he is going to fix all that is at a "higher level." And Yes, it will almost always find one or two tiny little things but they are not significant failures, just a file with a version number of new or more than what's in the list.  Unless there is a symptom of a problem, probably best simply to ignore it.

    Just follow best practices: do not run as administrator for daily use, maintain and keep a backup (use a simple as automatic backup, Carbonite or store your files in OneDrive).
