Scanning - OCR/Export - Word

Hello

I'm having a problem of conversion of a scanned document to pdf to word. I use Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro on Mac.

I'm scanning the sections of a book in pdf format, then I have them through OCR by exporting to word in order to get the editable text. I have two problems: (1) the scanned document is landscape, but I need final text editable in the portrait and the text itself to be shaped like a normal word document, that is, not the format in which it has been analyzed but as if I opened word and began to type in the sections of the book, try to mirror how it is presented - I can not simply change the orientation of the mode mode landscape portrait because It is a document scanned and everything becomes clear and the text does not really fit on the page. and (2) a part of the text does not appear because there are glitches or missing portions of the text, some regions have strange symbols instead of text as well.

My biggest problem at this point, is that I can't seem to convert the scanned document to a document in word in portrait format. I really need the scanned document to manifest with the structure of a word in the form of editable text document.

Thank you

Joe

When you run OCR, make sure you click on the button 'change... '. "and to define the output type for"ClearScan ". Otherwise, you end up with a picture and the hidden text. In this way, the image is completely removed from your document, and when you export to Word, only this recognized text is used.

To fix the poorly recognized characters, use the 'Find OCR Suspects' and secure them in your PDF document before exporting, or to correct problems once you exported in Word. OCR is not perfect, and the results depend on the quality of your analysis. Sometimes, the right OCR algorithm cannot know what a character is.

In Acrobat 9, you will first need to use the OCR function to convert the scanned PDF document. You would then export to Word.

    Hi lake1998,

When you save a document format, you are talking about OCR or optical character recognition.  The 3512 Deskjet will allow you to save the files analyzed in the formats listed, but it doesn't have a built in OCR.

    Hello

I don't think that the printer has this facility. You will need to scan from Word, but only of Word 2003. For Word 2007, 2010 and 2013 the process san to something first.

    Kind regards.

You use an OCR module, it is not included with the printer software.

    Hello

I like you couldn't scan to OCR.

    A search revealed the following:

    http://ascomputerz.blogspot.fr/2011/03/missing-OCR-software-on-DeskJet.html

which led me to turn to what seems to be a site of files FTP HP = ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/ocragent/

When there is a word with the instructions doc (very easy - essentially keep the HP software and printer on) and (b) a 50 MB file that adds an IRIS OCR software to the current HP software.

I tried - and in a few minutes, I had my first .rtf (rich TEXT file) with well digitized living characters... Either way, it was a complicated document that has worked quite well 1st time out the door.

    and voila. Good hunting :-)

    Thank you

    VFN

I talked to a technician and solve the problem.  For some reason any scanning HP app was not showing in the Mac Applications folder, which it is now. What I don't understand is what OCR really means because I just saved a scanned in the rich TEXT format document and it is editable. It wasn't always the case I think that scanning an image required OCR technology so that it can be modified according to me. So what is the point of the OCR now if it appears as saving an image as a RTF (or other format that I suspect) allows for editing?

    Thank you.

Sorry for the double post and I check this thread as resolved, although I'd love to hear my understanding of confusion OCR addressed.

  • Unable to scan to a Word document open... (not in a file) I have on my old HP but not on this one.

    Photosmart HP 6515

    using Windows XP

    1. cannot find a way to "reframe" a scanned sheet when I really want on a portion of the worksheet.  On my old HP, it was an option to lighten, Darken, crop, etc.  There are no options to set the scan I see on this one.

    2. unable to find a way to scan directly to an open Word Document.  The only options I see are in a file or email.  Most of my scanner is a file open (still unnamed).  My old HP Photosmart, there was a framework for the analysis of the Document.

    3. still unable to find a place to enter 'user-defined sizes.  I use several sizes of stationery not one of the displayed formats.  On my old HP if you want a size don't figure does not, you can configure a "custom size."

On HP 6515 documentation, he said of 3.5 to 11 "sizes ("such as Custom"size) but it does not work.

If someone can tell me what HP printer (for home) has the features (like my other 2 HP printers) I'll really appreciate it.  Some models say the custom calibration is available for Mac only.  I've never had a Mac... goal had w / these features of HP printers.  Can't imagine why the new models would have FEWER features.

Someone has already tried to install and former pilot a 6510 and 6515.  I read a suggestion that install the old drivers, restores the 3 numbers above to what they were on an older model.

Part of what happens is that the custom print size feature is no longer available on any printers that use the new firmware.  If you scan using the HP software, you should see options for the harvest and to adjust the lightness and darkness of the analysis.  If you use the HP software and can't find these options, let me know and I'll try to point you to them.  For a scan in an open Word document, you must save the analysis as an image and insert it manually in the document now.  The automatic function for this has been removed as well.  I'm sorry.

After that I made this post, I was put to aware of this post from Travis_C that give you a work around for custom print sizes.  Hope that helps.

    Hello

-What operating system is installed on your computer?
-What version of Microsoft Word you are using?

I suggest you to follow these steps and check if they help.

    a. save image scanned in *.gif, *.jpeg.

    b. open this image in paint, go to ' file-> save under "and name it"xyz.tiff"in" TIFF ".

    c. go to "Start-> programs-> Microsoft Office-> Microsoft Office Document Imaging Tools"

    d. go in "file-> open" and open your scanned document that has been saved in *. TIFF format.

    e. go in ' tools-> send text Word.» You will get a prompt indicating that this process will take time, click OK. This will take some time depending on the speed of your computer (a minute or two at the most).

    f. when it's done, it will open Microsoft word on its own, and the scanned document will be in editable mode.

    Hello

Some scanners have the ability to convert the image to text, check your scanner manual for the exact procedure. You can also use your search engine preferred for a tool to convert.

  • want to scan document into word document, says I need XP Professional with FrontPage?

New - depends on the software.  You did not mention the manufacturer or model of the scanner in question - so - even though it is highly unlikely that it's a Microsoft product, no one here can guide you directly to the manufacturer of products FAQ and manuals and forums and others for you show where you can get more information about how to use the scanner in question in the way you want to use.

    So, to simplify things:

    (1) what is the brand of scanner and the model?

    (2) have you installed all the drivers and the software of scanner said manufacturer?
