Screen brightness when plugged dims or decreases and increases when on battery

The power settings seem to completely reverse... When it is plugged: brightness can be adjusted between 0-40%, but beyond that, the cursor moves, but screen remains at the same brightness.

When on battery: brightness can be adjusted from 0-100% and screen brightness follows the cursor correctly.

Hi aneela786,

1. did you of recent changes on the computer?

2 when was the last time it was working fine?

3. What is the number of brand and model of the laptop?

Many laptop manufacturers have a setting in the BIOS to correct the brightness on the laptop when the power or battery.

I suggest that you check in the basic input/output system BIOS if you have such an option available.

For additional help, you can contact the manufacturer of the laptop.

I would also say that you update the drivers of basic input/output system BIOS and Chipset on the laptop by contacting the manufacturer of the laptop.

    Hi mate

To be honest, I've ever seen something like that
Usually, the FN + F6 and Fn F7 function key should decrease and increase the brightness.
I wonder why it does not work properly.

Maybe it's a question of s an OS so you should recover the unit using the drive HARD recovery option.
Press F8 when the laptop is turned on, and then select Repair my computer and then choose HARD drive recovery.
The operating system would be installed again and you can check the brightness again!

This product Tag number you provided is not coming as valid on the Dell site.  Please check again - I know it is difficult to read because it is so small.  So I could not check the details on your machine, but I don't know if this will help because Dell doesn't offer a lot of information on how to control hardware devices on their systems.  But if you check and send me the correct code, I'll try to cehck and see anyway.

I found the following on the Dell site and don't know if it applies to your specific system, but this is something we have not tried, so it is worth it.

    Adjust the brightness

"To set the screen LCD Brightness hold FN key and press the up arrow to increase the brightness.
or just holding the key FN and press the down arrow to decrease the brightness. »

Here is a thread in the Forum of Dell, I found on the issues of brightness with the Dell Inspiron 1545.  It includes the same procedure described above - but it includes a position that most of these problems is caused by problems with the motherboard.  I don't know if this is the problem, but if it is then, we deal with a hardware problem and not a software problem.

    I hope this helps.

  • T420s - screen brightness increases and decreases

    Hello

I noticed on my T420s that changes of screen brightness according to the image on the screen.

    For example:

-I'm looking at some site with black background and gray letters

When I pass screen for my outlook or for example firefox with this forum which first minutes white white background is gray and then it becomes whiter and whiter until after about 2 seconds, he moved.

I thought at first my eyes question, but it is certainly behavior from my laptop.

Anyone with the same problem? Can do this set by some software/Power Manager tweak?

Do you use your laptop on battery when this happens?

It is a setting I believe you can disable in the Intel graphics settings. Mine does the same thing - it's supposed to save energy.

  • !!! BEWARE OF A SCREEN BLUE (WHEN YOU START YOUR SYSTEM) WITH A LONG QUESTION. WE HAVE ONLY 10 SECONDS TO RESPOND AND REACT TO THE! Somebody has hacked my system / do I have a virus?

    Hi all

Basically, several months ago I noticed something strange on my computer - I know that I should have acted immediately - my Task Manager has been "disabled by Administrator [my]". Yet, I am the administrator!

Secondly, I lit my system yesterday and was immediately welcomed with a pale blue screen with lots of white, writing, that says, ' we recommend strongly you do not press "ENTER"...? If you do and you want to move before the expiry of the period...? " However, in time, that I tried to browse what was in front of me (that I was unable to catch everything), a 10 sec period had expired and many more white/numbers/text symbols suddenly started flowing to the bottom of my screen (for 15-20 seconds-from left to right)! In addition, my turn makes an unusual noise - as serious an alert! Immediately after, my system loaded up as usual!

So, I opened the Start Menu (after I restarted my computer to activate the Safe Mode) and the arrow keys has / not working -I can't navigate upwards or downwards to select one of the options! Yet, they have worked perfectly any other time since - just not in Start Menu! Then, I scanned with Windows Defender and nothing has found summer - my "system is safe."

Third, since then, I've noticed that my system (Windows XP) ran much more slowly too - informed the script is busy, plug-ins are insensitive, etc. - and the/things are / dragged across the screen! Therefore, I searched the forum and help guide to Firefox for everything that seemed similar and came across an instance of another person things 'slide' with a slow system, who suspects a virus! So, I followed the advice given to them - reset Firefox and download a "10 days free Microsoft Virus Scanner" (recorded under msert.exe); He set off to search for more than 9 hours, which found nothing/no infected files!

Finally, for all that, I can not use system restore or reset Firefox! I never pressed ENTER when the message appeared - do you think I should be?

I know that my version of Windows has expired and I plan to update very soon, but do not want to lose all the vital files. So, I am currently the backup copies.

All this activity may be connected? Or would it be different things are happening? And also, please could someone perhaps shed light on what happened or if they can help somehow? I would be VERY grateful.

    Thank you very much

    Bruce.

Since we have not heard from you lately, I will go ahead and tell you how to fix your problem disabled Task Manager (and probably a few other things):

Basically, when you see these errors, the usual advice is something in the sense of "something has been disabled in the group policy...". ", and it is probably true that something has been disabled, but you know what something is and what it takes to do about it.

If you are using XP Home Edition, you will get away with advice to use the Group Policy Editor because there is no Group Policy Editor in XP Home and that advice really doesn't tell you where to look in group policy, even if you run the Group Policy Editor (unless it's really good advice).

Basically, you need a complete solution that works for all versions of XP and requires no hunting around in the Group Policy Editor or registry to find where things are that may have been disabled.

Unless you have disabled these things on purpose, chances are good that your system has a malware infection.  The malware knows what tools you use to try to find and remove (like Task Manager), the malware disables the things you tend to use and prevents them from running if you can't find the malware and remove it.

If your system has this kind of affliction, all malicious software tools you currently use or have used failed to protect your system so that you can expand your horizons malware detection and prevention to prevent these kinds of afflictions in the first place.

The malware will be happy you trick into thinking that you need to so something drastic to fix your system - as a facility repair, system restore point or a total reinstallation of XP.  This is what it would be like you, but these measures are not necessary.

You must solve the immediate problem of the tools does not, then scan your system for malware when you are finished.

No matter what kind of malware you've used analytical tools, they are unlikely to solve this problem, because they cannot tell if the changes made to your system have been on purpose (you or an administrator who makes them) or some malware changed them, so the analysis tools will let these things alone (it's usually a good thing).

If your system is afflicted in this way, there are probably other things that also do not work - like the registry editor, System Restore and the command prompt, so fix them all at once even if you have not discovered they are broken again.

These commands from registry removes the registry entries that are stop opening programs.  Although the registry entries do not exist, these commands are safe to run and will work for all versions of XP.

Before making any changes to your registry, back up the registry with this free and popular tool:

    http://www.SnapFiles.com/get/ERUNT.html

You can also manually create a system restore point before you make these adjustments.

Open Notepad (and only Notepad) to create a new text file:

Click Start, run and enter in the box:

    notebook

Click OK to open a new Notepad file.

Copy and paste the following lines in BOLD text into the new Notepad file:

Save the new text file with extension .reg on your desktop or somewhere you can remember with a name you can remember, something like:

    enableit.reg

After you save the file, close Notepad.

Locate the file enableit.reg on your desktop and double-click it.

Alternatively, you can right-click on the enableit.reg file, choose merge or open with... and select the registry editor or import.

Answer in the affirmative to the question... Are you sure you want to add the information in the registry?

You should then see a message that information has been registered in the register.

Reboot your system and test to make sure the changes 'stick '.

You can delete the enableit.reg file when you are finished.

If the registry editor has also been disabled, you will see a message like this:

Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator.

We must therefore first difficulty (not a problem).

Click Start, run, and in the type box (or just copy / paste the entire order in the window run more safe) the following text:

    reg delete HKCU/v DisableRegistryTools/f

Then see if regedit behaves (of course it will be).
