Pavilion dv7-6163us windows 7 64-bit, the screen brightness will not adjust

I reinstalled the latest graphics driver, the latest version of the BIOS and I still cannot adjust the brightness of the screens (screen).

The indicator appears but is grey.

Thanks for any help, Paul

Update on the screen brightness controls; went into the BIOS and reset on off action keys.

Restarted and there was no change.

I then uninstalled the drivers for the monitor and rebooted and the brightness setting now works again.

Thank you all, Todd especially for assistance.

    Hello @KayLeeM,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support! It's a good place to find the help you need, so many other users, the HP experts and other members of the support staff.

I came across your post about the brightness of the display and wanted to help!

Try searching for the Device Manager in the Start Menu.  Then expand the monitors section and see if you have an option for Generic PnP monitor.  If so, do a right-click on him and generic PnP monitor enable, if not already.  Now, check to see if you can adjust the brightness.  If you're still having problems, then try to see the following resource and let me know how it goes:

  • When I tap on the touchpad on my HP Pavilion dv7 cursor sometimes also jumps on the screen

When I tap on the touchpad on my HP Pavilion dv7 cursor sometimes jumps somewhere else on the screen. I sent 2 times to HP and it has been returned without problem found. They advised me to set the pointer at half speed, but it still happens. I found on the HP web site, a newsletter which confirms that they seem to have a problem: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01471084&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=hr&cc=hr&lang=hr&product=4075797#.

It is apparently related to the thread "Windows UPDATE Caused typing problems (Jumping cursor... )" It only happens when I type' and 'double tap', not when I type. So who is to blame?

To disable the option of tapping helps but it is only circumvented the problem.

And HP article points to its own software system BIOS or touchpad as the culprit, not the operating system.  I've seen a number of updates offered on Windows Update that can potentially manure with a touchpad settings; Quick Launch buttons specific to the virtual devices/interfaces/drivers ACPI BIOS that control things like the programmable buttons or special function keys and updated for HP, TouchPad software and driver updates.

Non-Microsoft software and published on Windows Update for driver updates are put there by the respective hardware or software developers, not by Microsoft.  Many users just automatically install what are updates are available without looking too close description of the update and do not realize that they just installed an update to a third-party product as opposed to an update of the operating system.  Some users don't even know the difference.

I would check the forums to support consumer of HP for a potential solution.  Several times, HP will have a new driver or software provision, but he gets only appearing on the support pages and download for currently marketed models, not on discontinued models.

  • Windows Vista 64-bit with readers that will not start after disabling all startup applications and registry changes

My Vista 64-bit system ran like a dream - until I tried to install Roxio Creator 2010.  When the installation failed and hung up, I stopped the installation with the Task Manager and rebooted the pc.  Following the instructions of blog users of Roxio, I did the following:

    1. selected disable all startup using MSCONFIG and restarted the pc applications.

2 download and run the Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp.

3 remove the partially installed Roxio files in the directory c:\Program Files x 86, then made an export of registry before editing the registry.

    4. under the leadership of the registry - deleted file folder HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Roxio and has attempted to delete the Wow6432Node folder from the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder but encountered an error - didn't note it, unfortunately, but basically he said that he could not remove it when it has been changed, after waiting a while I tried to delete the folder Wow6432Node whe even once with the same answer, so I closed Regedit and restarted the pc.

The pc goes through the process of startup and hangs when it tries to start Windows Vista.

    5. I can't do a repair with the Vista disk - files are not present.

    Hello Ajay K.

Thank you very much for your detailed answer.

I got no error message.  I backed up the registry, but was not able to start the pc, so was not able to restore the registry.

I couldn't restore last good configuration known - the option was not yet present.

When I tried to restore the operating system, he asked drivers before it would proceed.

I have a floppy 1.44 with the raid drivers and after reloading of these drivers, I was able to reload Vista Ultimate.  Fortunately, all my data was recorded in a windows.old directory, and I'm back in business without losses.  Just had to reload all my software.  Do that...

I think that my problem was caused by disabling all startup applications in msconfig - which resulted in my hard not recognized disk array.  This seems likely.

You are awesome to provide an exceptional response.

    Hi @weiwei17,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A place where you can find solutions for your problems with the help of the community!

I stumbled upon your post on the laptop and wanted to help you! I looked in your question about your computer laptop 14-ac014tx HP and questions with your upgrade to Windows 10. Try to use the Windows Update Troubleshooter to fix the problem.

Here is a document that shows how update the drivers that do not work correctly with Windows 10.

HP has worked closely with Microsoft on developing for Windows 10. Currently there is no driver available for your system. You can try and check at a later date, because I see new drivers all the time.

Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant, if you need it. Simply download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that may need updating.

    Thank you.

  • Tecra M7 - after which the screen saver will not return

Occasionally, the screen turns off according to power options, but not coming back when you press keys or the mouse is moved. The only way I can get the screen to wake-up is to transform the notebook into tablet mode and vice versa.

This always the screen wakes up but is boring to do. This problem is only intermittent and if it has place at all this is the first time, the screen turns off after coming out of hibernation or otherwise turn on.

Y at - it a fix for this problem?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Not easy to say why it happens.
The display turns off automatically or did you put the laptop into sleep mode.
This occurs if the laptop is in the PC mode or Tablet PC?

If we talked about Eve so as far as I know the laptop wakes up not of mode before moving the mouse. You must press the power button.
In addition, you can wake up a screen with the mouse only moves if the screen saver was.

However, you said that sometimes happens.
I put t don't know if this helps, but check the Toshiba driver page.
Check the versions available and compare. Try to update the graphics driver

    Exactly on each charge.

You can only switch to a faster C2D processor

You can not upgrade your video from your PC card do not have a video "map.

He has a GPU chip soldered to the motherboard. Good behaviour, punch.

Yes, the motherboard will together be replaced most likely came from a more recent model dv7 and it probably wouldn't fit there may be another provision or ports.

The solution, if you are not ready to live within the limits of your laptop current, is to buy a new one with everything you want there.

  • Windows 7 64 bit - the mouse pointer doesn't move do not but the mouse is recognized and left/right click

    Problem:

My mouse pointer is in the middle of the screen and will not go. If I have a left or right click, click on the system recognizes this, but does not respond to the mouse movement. My wacom tablet 's going to move the cursor.

I've been running the system for 6 months. This problem occurred only 4 days ago. All other features are OK and unchanged.

    Solution attempts:

I bought another USB mouse and it has the same problem.

I also tried to reinstall the USB drivers as shown in the post of http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprohardware/thread/20826bf8-996e-4622-96f5-09ab7a7d0b1f

    Hardware / software:

    • Generic PC with motherboard Gigabyte
    • Intel Core i7 with 12 GB
    • Windows 7 Professional 64 bit (active)
    • Razer mouse connected via a USB cable
    • Generic USB mouse is brand Legend

Please let me know if you need more information

    Hi Ardeet,

Two other things I would say.  First of all, have you been able to test your mouse on another machine to make sure it's working properly?

Also, have you been to the website of the manufacturer of your computer to update the drivers for your machine and chipset?

    I hope this helps!
