Scripted installation - force an IP address to start the installation

Hello

I would like to make installations scripted on ESXi 4.1 without PXE (CDROM + KS leader)

In order to centralize my KS files, I've set up a web server and I give the path to my ks folder when installing. (ks = http://xxx.yyy.zzz.www/KS.cfg )

My problem is that on the local network that I use for ESXi servers, there no DHCP server, so when the installation process starts, my server does not have an IP address and cannot access the web server that contains the configuration of the ks.

Y at - it all the parameters that I can spend to provide a temp. IP loopbackDans to obtain the KS file?

Thank you.

try to use the following settings

... ksdevice=eth0 ip=192.168.0.1 netmask=255.255.255.0 gateway=192.168.0.254 nameserver=192.168.0.253 ks=http://yourserver/ks.cfg ...

Maybe instead of the device eth0 in 4.x, it is necessary to use vmnic0.

After an incident, I was the only one to take the blame of I want to start a discussion on a scripted installation problem.

We used a script to kickstart to a wide configuration of our ESXI 5.x several times. This time, I adapt a kickstart to an ESXi 5.1 U1 (custom HP) script and I forgot to disable the FC connection from the blade server. Subsequently, installing replaced a vmfs LUNS DATA and I had to restore several VM´s running with a lot of discussion later.

That's why I want to ask the community if someone really smart guy looked at this issue before to keep installing stupid people (me) to crush the SAn FC lun without connections stop FC?

I added a KS.cfg of sample to give you an overview that we install.

I would appreciate if anyone can give me advice.

On my blades, when to use kickstart, I use the installation option - firstdisk to force th einstall to use the local disk by specifying the internal disk controller driver.  Of course, this does not work when you use the SAN boot, but if you install on a local drive, it should work.

    Example:

    install firstdisk - mptsas

You can also add the preservevmfs - pass if you are super paranoid, but if the local disk is a VMFS, your encrypted facility likely mistake.

Another thing that I do, it's the Image Builder CLI allows you to create a custom image that has the FC HBA deleted drivers, so the installer can not possibly access the LUN CF.  Once installed ESXi, during the kickstart script firstboot section, I have install the HBA driver.  Yet once, if you start in SAN, this won't help.

    Example:

    # Script FirstBoot

    firstboot % - interpreter = busybox

    # In Maintenance mode
    Vim - cmd hostsvc/maintenance_mode_enter

    ############################################
    # Install/configure the drivers.

    # Install HBA QLogic FC-FCoE adapter driver

    Hello

I'm on the migration project ESSO of the V10 V11.1.2.2 customer asked the deployment of the package to the large community of users without user intervention.  Logoff scripts have been changed to remove the old version.  And they already have scripts to run when the computer reboots, as well as during the user logon.

My question is can I install new MSI packages during the reboot, without user having to connect and wait for the package must be installed after it connect?

    Thanks in advance

I guess I answered my own question by testing in the laboratory.  I tested the MSI installation when you start the computer up without any problem.  The conclusion, there is NO dependence of the user with the installation of ESSO-LM for the computer to start.  The advantage is to push the installation without the need to have the user performing the installation...

  • Need help: Reader does not start, the message error "attempt to access an address not valid."

My previous installation of the drive (Windows 7, 32 bit) worked without any problems.  Until a few days ago when I updated to the latest CD player.  Installation worked fine, but when you try to start the CD player, I received the following error message: "attempt to access an address not valid."  I uninstalled CD and installed Player 11.0.  Yet once, installation worked fine, but I get the same error message, even if double click directly the Adobe Reader .exe file.

A similar question was asked in December 2014, but I do not see a resolution.

Without Adobe Reader, many applications simply do not work.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Adobe Reader Error Message 2015-10-18.jpg

Thank you, Christopher, but this thread did not provide the right answer to my situation.  However, I continued working on my problem and finally found the solution: it's software Msreader EMET let go.  This software is an absolute disaster.  This is a free Microsoft security software. It's great, but once installed on your system, you cannot uninstall it even more.  After an EMET update a few months ago, I could not start Microsoft Word program.  After hours of play and even communicate with their support (not), I finally understood that he was own EMET software Microsoft blocks the Word Microsoft to start program.  Apparently, these guys don't know what they are doing.

Anyway, I was ready to uninstall and reinstall the drive again, this time using the cleaner of Adobe's Acrobat Reader software to remove all possible traces of before install.  Before I did that, I remembered the EMET disaster a few months opened EMET, unmarked all actions AcroRd32.exe, and voila, launched reader and let me not open PDF files. (I had to reboot my PC before that worked).  Player is then proposed to upgrade to the latest version.  I did, and big surprise, Reader produces the same error message after the update.  Heck!  But after another reboot, the drive launched without any problem (apparently, EMET for the additional restart to recognize the changes after the update).

I lost the greater part of the day to work on this issue, but I'm a happy camper again, because my Acrobat Reader works again.  Maybe my experience will help someone else.

  • Cannot start the Recovery Console Windows from the installation CD

On my MacBook I ve running in VMware Fusion 3.0.1 a Virtual Machine with Win XP Pro.

When I reboot Win XP Pro and start again from the Windows XP Pro installation CD, I can see the "Welcome" with the menu screen

-To install Win XP now, press ENTER

-To repair an installation of Windows XP using the Recovery Console, press r.

-To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.

When I click ENTER or R, I see the message

-The installation program did not find any hard drives installed in your computer. Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3.

Today the question? In the 40 GB of the virtual machine, I have two free partitions of 10 GB and 20 GB Win XP Pro execution. Why see Setup cannot process this partition?

I ve also installed a second Virtual Machine, but the installation of VMware Fusion not show the "Welcome" screen, but it installs both Win XP Pro.

The installation of the recovery in the virtual race Machine Win XP Pro Console is successful, but when I start the recovery in Start Menu Console, just the screen blue 0x7B (inaccessible boot device).

What must I do, to start the Recovery Console in VMware Fusion? Or another question: when merging does support the Windows Recovery Console?

Wow, nothing indicates that you use a German version of Fusion that your English is excellent.  Anyway as VMware headquarters is in the United States, like me, I always provide information in English and information-specific guidelines in the VMware Fusion help files come from the English version as well as any Documentation from VMware that I reference.  I say this next part as a general and not directed comment towards you, as you have noted your using the German version... Any person requesting help must always at least include technical information referencing manufacture, make, model, version, and language other then English, material goods and software involved in issues.  We'll find a good reference for the type of information that must always be included in HOWTO: ask (and answer) Questions.

As a much get into the BIOS if you use the Fusion 3, you don't need to enter the BIOS to change the boot device as this can be done in the settings now however to enter the BIOS for other things that need/want of press you F2 directly after starting the Virtual Machine and after having clicked on the screen but the av VM boot so fast that it's easily missed.  You can add the following settings to the file of configuration .vmx of the Virtual Machine to slow down the startup so that force once in the BIOS.

    bios.bootDelay = "3000"
    bios.forceSetupOnce = "TRUE"

The bios.bootDelay is in milliseconds and the bios.forceSetupOnce Boolean value is then set to FALSE, automatically.  Each of these parameters are independent of each other.

Notes: Creating an ISO Image of the CD/DVD drive

When you use utility disk in order to have a bootable ISO Image, you must select Master CD/DVD without encryption in which case by default, it will have an extension .cdr file and in version 1.1 of the merger and later does not need to be changed in .iso, although one can if one chooses to. A default .dmg image is compressed and is not bootable, as an uncompressed .dmg will start if changed in .iso and of course the source CD/DVD should be bootable in the first place.

To create an ISO Image using disk utility...

1 insert the CD or DVD disc into the optical drive of your computer.

    2. open disk utility (/ Applications/Utilities/Disk utility).

    3. Select the CD or DVD drive in the list of disks and volumes.

    4. Choose file > new > "Disk Image from (name of the disc)."

    5. type a name for the disk image.

    6. choose "DVD/CD master" from the Image Format pop-up menu.

7 choose "none" from the encryption pop-up menu.

    8. click on save.

When a computer XP starts, the following errors occur. Can't find Mac addresses, can't find DHCP at startup. PC is not connected to a network.

Why would it gives this error at startup?

It is not a Windows problem, it happens very early in the boot process until Windows is still a part of the image.  Your computer is configured for a remote network via PXE boot and there is no this PXE server so that you get this error message.  With PXE network boot, you can start a computer without him having a hard drive, the operating system resides on another machine on the network.  When the BIOS does not find the PXE server it gives you the error message, and then it proceeds to the next start equipment, which is probably your local hard drive.  Go into the BIOS and disable the PXE boot option or move it to the bottom of the boot order so that the hard drive is set as the primary boot device.

Once he got to the phase 'installation complete' it seems to take a while, so I let it run all night. Once I got up, it was on a black screen with the mouse, I let stand a few more minutes but still nothing. I turned off and started it expects to find to return at the beginning of the installation, but instead he began to start from what is on the hard drive at this time. It got to the screen with the loading bar and the sign 'Microsoft Corporation'. The loading bar was very frigidity and stopped and started randomly. I let it do this while I went to school, but when I got home, it was always the same loading screen. I rebooted and tried to start in safe mode, but when I do it it stops at crcdisk.sys, and never forwarded charges. I tried to do the reset thing factory start it but that doesn't seem to work. My other puny hard drive still works, but the other does not. I searched the internet but have not seen any other problem like it. I want to just start completely clean of my new 500 GB. Please help!

    Hi James,

    1. What is the number of brand and model of the hard disk of 500 GB?

    2. How did the 500 GB hard drive connected to the computer? It is external or internal?

To troubleshoot the unable to start the issue to cause corrupted driver, some files that can not be loaded during the startup process must be fixed or restored. So, let's check the disk by using the Windows Recovery Console.

    (a) put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.

    (b) press a key when the message "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD ".

    (c) select a language, a time, a currency and a keyboard or another input method, and then click Next.

    (d) click on repair your computer.

    (e) (click on the operating system you want to repair), and then click Next.

    (f) in the System Recovery Options dialog box, click command prompt. Type chkdsk c:/f to try to correct the errors.

    (g) Note: answer them when chkdsk asks you if you want to check the disk next boot Vista

    (h) after the recording of the disc, and then run sfc/scannow to check the corruption of system files.

Important: when running chkdsk on the drive hard if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area if all available on which data may be lost.

Check out TechNet help links and check if that helps:

The computer starts stops at crcdisk.sys
