Search bar launches a google search

When I use the search at the top right bar, I get only a blank screen in return. I tried all the other default search engines, and they work very well. If I press simply enter with an empty field, he's going to google.com , but if I type for example London and press ENTER, I get an empty field and this text in the field address: "http://www.google.com/search?client=ubuntu & channel = fs & q = london & ie = utf-8 & oe = utf - 8.
I use Ubuntu 12.04 and Firefox 17.0

Managed to get it work again, it looks like I had installed an add-on that has messing things up.

I reinstalled FF several times. I deleted my profiles. I disabled addons. Nothing works. I am running version 20. Any ideas? It's driving me crazy. User on the computer never has this problem.

If you are in a corporate network environment:

20.0 Firefox has a problem with configurations where your Windows profile is stored on a server using a UNC path (for example, \\userdata\greg). Currently, there is a solution for this. A solution could be to choose a local folder for your own settings of Firefox, but that could not be authorized by your COMPUTER. Even if it's less safe, if you need emergency of Firefox, you could switch to Firefox 19.0.2. This article has a link under 'I still want downgrade': install an older version of Firefox.

If you are in a home environment or the local settings folder, then please ignore the above.

Off all extensions and on each one. Everytime you had to restart the browser. The problem is resolved after you turn off the 'Indian Rail Info App 4.78 Firefox' extension. He worked with previous versions of Firefox but the problem came with the installation of Firefox 12.

  • When I open a tab and start typing a URL in the address bar, my goal is switched to the google search field while I type.

When I open a new tab in Firefox, usually the first thing I do is start typing a URL in the address bar to the new tab (normally that uses AutoComplete to sites that I visit a lot). The new tab usually displays a google search page which is fine. It's there if I need it.

Lately, however, has changed the behavior of firefox when I open a new tab. After that I opened a new tab, my goal is taken from the address bar in the google search box. I mean not the Firefox search box either. I mean the search box on the google page. This occurs after I already started typing if I get the first letter or 2 of what I type in the search box, while the rest began to appear in the google search box. When I type a URL I want in the address bar. Not in the search box.

On reflection, I think that there are a few extensions that try to block or reverse this behavior of the Google search page. If you check your extensions, are one of them suddenly disabled or missing?

You can open the page modules using either:

    • CTRL + SHIFT + a
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then check down to the disabled extensions.

  • Google search bar is missing

The last time I used Firefox I have a Norton search bar and a Google search bar, now the Google search bar is missing. I did a search and cannot find the place where to reinstall it.

    Thank you!

    JO

Most toolbars are created extensions, and it looks as if you have enabled extensions. You can check in the following tab:

Firefox orange (or the Tools menu) button > addons > Extensions category

To select the toolbars are displayed, you can switch the Sub and using a power off of these:

    • Right click on an empty area of the tab bar
    • Press the Alt key > view > toolbars

If the whole toolbar is missing, Firefox may be full-screen mode. Use the F11 function key to switch between full screen and normal views.

    A little luck?

    Can fix manually as follows:

    (b) search for the keyword. URL parameter
    (c) replace the entry (http://search.conduit.com/ResultsExt.aspx?ctid=CT2438727 & SearchSource = 2 & q =) with this one:

  • I can't open links in google search using Firefox.

I can open the links when I search with Bing or Yahoo and Google looking for work when I use IE, so it's only when I use Google with Firefox. For example, if I try to open bbc.co.uk/news from the search page it does not do anything, if I try to open it in a new tab I get Error 404 and this string in the address bar: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t & rct = j & q = & esrc = s & source = web & cd = 1 & cad = AJLN & uact = 8 & ved = 0CB4QFjAAahUKEwjEzpKmif3IAhUM9GMKHQZeClQ & url = http %3 has % 2F % www.bbc.com%2Fnews 2F, & usg = AFQjCNFZIG7IKy3foMCFY0dzRExKv9KjFQ

You can try to delete the files (extensions.json and extensions.ini) extensions.* and compatibility.ini in the profile folder of Firefox to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created if necessary.

    See "extension corrupted files:

If you see disabled extensions or is not compatible in "Firefox button/Tools menu > Modules > Extensions ' and then click the Tools button at the left end of the search bar to check if there is an update available compatibility.

If that didn't help then also delete the addons.json file and the file prefs.js reset setting pref of the extension of the Protection of Kaspersky.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

  • How can I get the search bar on the home page of Firefox to stop mirroring of what is in the search toolbar?

This seems to be something new, but I usually use the built in the toolbar to search at the top right of my Firefox window to search eBay and I usually go to the Firefox default Home/Start for searches on Google page. Now, it seems that whenever I try to search from the home/start page, I get the results of any search engine is specified in the top search bar. So if toolbar is set to 'eBay' and I search something on the homepage, only eBay results appear.
I don't want to do. I want that the Google search home page every time, no matter what is on my search toolbar. It's really annoying to have to go to the search bar engine resume Google and then my search. I often open new tabs quickly find something relevant to what I'm working on because it requires less effort to hit Ctrl + T to open a new tab that is already on the cover with my cursor in the search field, than using the toolbar where I have to take my hands on the keyboard to use the mouse. How can I fix it. This "improvement" sucks.

I forgot an obvious solution to this problem. I just changed my homepage of "www.google.com" rather than use the default Firefox homepage. In hindsight, it makes little sense to use the default Firefox homepage as an intermediary to Google anyway.

  • Disassociate address bar search provider of search box search.

Searching for address bar is somehow now related to the quick search box. When I put it on youtube for example they search the same string in the address bar. How to change that so that back. Before when I looked in the address bar make me google search and youtube in the search box. Thank you in advance.

A large number of malware used to change the key word. Pref URL to post a link to a specific search page. To make it easier to avoid it, all pages now use the same default search engine.
