Search bar opens in a new tab, but without an accent
I have Firefox running on 2 computers. On one when I use the search bar, the results are in a new tab and this tab gets the active focus. On the other hand the search bar results in a new tab, but this tab does not have the active focus. The two computers used to provide search results in a new tab with active household. What can I do to give the other an active focus on search results?
Start Firefox in Firefox to solve the issues in Safe Mode to check if one of the Add-ons is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Modules > themes).
- Makes no changes on the start safe mode window.

I'm new to Firefox, but experience a great improvement on IE. I find it heavy to have to open a new front tab - I use the search bar... I would largely prefer a similar option to 'search results appear in a new tab.
Thanks for the help!
Edit: I found it.
This preference can be changed by typing about: config
(1) type or paste Subject: config in the address bar and press enter (click the button promising to be careful and please be careful!)
(2) in the filter box, type or paste the Search and pause until the preferences are filtered
(3) double-click browser.search.openintab to change for real. You're done, you can close all: config now.

You are a person of keyboard or mouse?
Using the keyboard after you type your query, hold down the Alt key while pressing ENTER to open search results in a new tab. This also works in the address bar: when you type the name of a new site, hold the Alt key when you press ENTER to open this site in a new tab.
Using the mouse, hold down the CTRL key while clicking on the magnifying glass icon.
Is there a way to always open in a new tab without having search results to use the Alt or Ctrl key? Hmmm, perhaps, I have not studied that.

How can I configure search to open in a new tab?
When I do a 'google' search I want to open it in a new tab... How is that defined?
Look at the topic: window configuration of these settings and change them:
- Browser.Search.openintab - if true, will open a search from the search bar in a new tab if you use the return key to trigger the search
- browser.tabs.loadBookmarksInBackground - if true, bookmarks that open in a new tab will not fly goal
- browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackground - load the new tab in the background, leaving to focus on the current tab if it is true
- browser.tabs.loadInBackground - not to focus new tabs opened from links (load in the background) If true
- Browser.Tabs.opentabfor.MiddleClick - if true, links can be required to open a new tab if middle-clicked. Useful for search results.

When I save the settings, I get an error message: "the/in-US/questions/764917 requested URL? s = open + google + search + bar + results + in + new + tab & r = 8 & as = s was not found on this server. »

How can I get a search result to activate a new tab?
In previous versions of Firefox that I used, whenever I typed a word or phrase in the search box in the upper right corner, the result automatically activated and appeared as a new tab (he could appear as a new window browser FF all together, I don't remember for sure).
In the version I use (6.0.2), whenever I have a search using said search box, the result is automatically displayed on the current page, I'm on. It changes the page I'm on.
How can you change or where is the parameter that has to be changed (I looked in 'tool', then '' options' and have not found a setting/choice for this action)?
I would greatly appreciate help on this, since I have concluded that it is frustrating for some time. This is the first time, I looked for a solution with you' well all. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
David
You can do one of the following:
- After you enter your search term in the search bar, you can middle-click or Ctrl + left - click on go (magnifying glass) button in the search bar (= Middle-click (press the scroll of the mouse wheel).)
- You can change a preference to always open a new tab when searching from the search bar by pressing the Enter key only (not the URL/address bar):
- type of topic: config in the URL/address bar
- If you see a cautionary, accept it (promise to be careful)
- Filter = browser.search.openintab
- Double-click this preference in the lower part of the screen to move to "true" (the default value is 'false')

When I click on a url, it should open in a new tab; why it opens in the same tab?
I have my preferences of Mozilla implemented so that whenever I click on a url, it should open in a new tab, but every once in a while, Mozilla goes on the fritz, and open the new url IN THE SAME TAB! I checked my preferences, they are always well positioned. I checked the tools: Options: general: tabs: open the new window in the tab instead. and when I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately. If it is always well positioned.
What Miss me?
That preference refers to links that are coded to launch in a new window: start them in a new tab instead of a new window.
Unfortunately, there is no adjustment for the links that are coded to launch in the same tab to start them in a new tab instead of in the same tab. You would need an add-on for that.
Normally, I would you recommend checking out Tab Mix Plus as the 'Swiss Army knife' tab features, but lately, it has a small bug so it has not been last updated in recent days, could you hold off on using it.

In my previous version of FF, whenever I did a search with any search results open in a new tab. Now with FF8, the results open up the active window that is really annoying. How can I get the search results to open in a new tab instead?
I have Windows xp FF8You are welcome
If you have changed the settings in the options to search for Google (http://www.google.com/preferences?hl=en) links should open in a new tab if you click on them. You can always Middle-click on a link to open the link in a new tab.

See the question
You can change a hidden preference to make the search results from the search (top right) to open in a new tab bar:
- type of topic: config in the location/URL bar and press the Enter key
- on the caveat, promise to be careful
- Filter = browser.search.openintab
- in the lower panel, double-click that preference to switch the column value true or false (see below)
- value =true open search results in a new tab
- value =false (default) open search results in the active tab

How can I get Google search bar results to open in a new tab instead of the current tab?
When I use the Google search box, I would like the search results to open in a new tab instead of the current tab.
Does the search bar in the Navigation toolbar?
For this search bar, you can switch the browser.search.openintab true on the topic: config page.
For the Google site you can do so via the Google search settings page.

I want bookmarks to open new tabs, but not move them immediately
When I used chrome, I could control click on bookmarks in the bookmarks bar and they would open in new tabs, but it wouldn't switch to the tab immediately (it would load it however). However, in Firefox, when you control click on bookmark, it switches automatically to the new tab. Is it possible to change this?
I tried turning the 'Tabs' which means that the new tabs open from within a Web page are not switched on immediately, but this seems to have no effect on the bookmarks.
Hello alexthegreat7, if you please, try the following:
enter on: config in the address bar of firefox (confirmed the message information where it appears) and search for the preference named browser.tabs.loadBookmarksInBackground. Double-click it and change its realvalue, then Favorites should not receive focus immediately when you click or Ctrl-click on them... -
Open new tabs, but stay in the current tab
I read a lot of discussion, but I have not found any help. I just reformat my hard drive and installed fresh FF4. . I opened firefox in my homepage. Without tab open at this stage. If I right click on the page to open a new link by opening a new tab, it stays on the current page and opens a new tab in the background. My problem is if I'm on a page and I opened a new tab by selecting a BOOKMARK, it switches to the new tab immediately. I want to stay on the current tab and open the bookmark tab in a background tab. Any help? Thank you.
P.S. I tried checking and unchecking "when I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately", I tried safe mode, I tried to disable all the add - on... nothing seems to work.
That is controlled by this pref (affect the Google search bar as well):
browser.tabs.loadBookmarksInBackground
To open the topic: config page, type Subject: config in the address bar (address) and press the 'Enter' key, as you type the url of a Web site to open a Web site.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access this page. -
How can I get a query in the search field to open in a new tab or a new window, and the current window?
If you are looking through the search bar in the Navigation toolbar, this preference can be changed to research it open in a tab.
Type of topic: config in the address bar and press ENTER. Then answer "I'll be careful." Type this pref in the search at the top.
Browser.Search.openintab = double click to switch to true
