Second hand laptop: XP restore?

Hello!

I want to buy a laptop computer on e - bay.  I can see from the picture he has a sticker of XP license on underside; but the description says that the seller has wiped / deleted from the hard drive and lost the backup CD that came with the laptop when it's new.  If I buy the laptop, so should I buy a new XP?  Or is there a better alternative?

Thank you!

From what you say, it seems that the seller has removed the OS (XP) and, if this is the case, you need to install a new.

The alternative the most up-to-date for XP is Windows 7:-

The security key that I typed in recently and now works when I try does not connect. What could change?

    Hello

    Follow these methods.

Method 1: Temporarily disable the security software .

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Method 2: Follow these steps:

Step 1: Start the computer in safe mode with network and check if the problem persists.

Step 2: If the problem does not persist in safe mode with networking, perform a clean boot to see if there is a software conflict as the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note: After completing the steps in the clean boot troubleshooting, follow step 3 from the link to start the computer to a Normal startupmode.

  • Need help with my laptop second hand Satellite

I have a unusual problem; I recently bought a second hand laptop that I knew wasn't working as I thought I could fix it. However, I discovered that all the decals identify which model I have are deleted. I know it's a Toshiba Satellite. The keyboard has a key missing "m", which I think is actually damaged as the laptop is a continuous beep on startup until the keyboard cable is removed.

Also, the screen remains white brilliant at startup. I read it can be caused by loose or damaged cables or a contrast problem, but as I can't use the keyboard I can't really do much.
When the system is running, I can see the rotation of the fan, I can hear the HDD works, but due to problems with screen/keyboard, I don't know if it s actually passing the start screen or not.

    So my questions are:
    (1) how the hell can I identify this machine when I can't start
    (2) can I use a USB keyboard to the diagnosis until I have the operation of the system?
    (3) should what tests I do to try to resolve the problem of the screen?

I realize I should have ask the seller for info, but I doubt that the guy had a clue anyway.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

You've done well think. Before you spend your time trying to find the solution it back and I hope you find better second hand laptop in better condition.

  • No product key for Windows 7 Ultimate on laptop second hand. Windows 8 not compatible. What are the options?

A friend of mine bought a computer with Windows 7 Ultimate laptop second hand on it and it has not been activated, and it is not a product key (even the old one is worn and unreadable). It was originally a XP system and it cannot be upgraded to Windows 8 because it is not compatible. Is it possible that he could buy a product key so that it is activated and genuine? I don't want him to enter in some affliction, and I feel partly responsible because I was the one who told him to do and was not with him to look over the first! I feel really bad, because it doesn't have a lot of money and I should have been there when it was sold. I have a Windows 7 professional full version box, but I really need for my own system. Are there any alternatives? Please give me some GOOD news because I feel really rotten over this. ) :

    Thank you

    BAT

The only alternative would be to buy a license Windows 7 Ultimate full version or a version complete edition cheaper such as Windows 7 Edition Home Premium and make a custom installation:

    Full version-

    Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium

    Full version-

    Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate

Apart from that, the only other option would be to contact the computer manufacturer for a Windows XP Recovery disk. Which I doubt they still provide.

You have installed?  Which means that you went down and bought Windows XP all by himself in a retail establishment and it is a retail license, not a cheaper OEM license?

I asked a tech savvy friends to help me buy. He brought me a real CD, a product with COA and a manual Win XP key (they came sealed) and reception. It cost me about $160 (actually 7800 Indian rupees). I still have the COA product key, hologrammed CD sticker.

The CoA sticker wasn't on the hard plastic case?  Sounds like an OEM version - which once installed is "linked" to this computer/motherboard.

    Hello

Browse the following documents carefully & follow him.

Test a HDD in BIOS ; Laptops HP - how to run the hard drive Test

    Hard disk failure errors

Test the hard drive by using SMART

Normally the HP disk HARD Selft Test works well, but the information stored in S.M.A.R.T indicates that your HARD drive will fail.

It seems the automatic test crashes if there is a bad sector that has not yet been remapped. If you back up all your data before performing a full format on the disc it will fix the problem (assuming it's the same problem I had). In the meantime, I would check what are the SMART test results... you may have a faulty hard drive. (one or two bad sectors are not as bad as HP are affected because these will be remapped as soon as a write is attempted on them).

If it gets corrupted, go for another one again.

First of all trying to read the above documents and try to do it again.

  • PC with Windows Vista Business OEMAct COA of second hand

    Hello

I just bought a PC that has a Microsoft COA license sticker attached to it for "Windows Vista Business OEMAct" of second hand. It came without a HARD drive, so I installed my own and want to make sure that the key on the PC is still valid? If I can get my hands on a Vista disk, probably, I can install windows with this key and everything will be fine?
The question I have, is that I can then upgrade to Windows 8 for the $39,99 deal? I don't see why not?

    Hello

You must use the key to see if it is still valid. There is no public list kept.

Hadou no reason why it would not be valid as long as you can not transfer OEM licenses which they were installed on the original machine.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

  • Where can I safely download a USER manual for the second hand Compaq nc 4400 I just bought?

Can someone tell me where I can download a MANUAL for my Compaq nc4400 I just bought second hand safely. (Used)

I'm afraid to use a non-secure site!  Also can someone tell me what times of loading, I would expect to see on the screen to a fully charged battery? This one is only show 30 minutes! Guess it must be replaced on the right? ;-) Please advise me on the best type of battery for my model. Thanks, Bart.

    Hi Bart1,

You can download the manuals of the secure HP web support portal for your laptop in the manuals section.

Since you bought it second hand and it provides only 30 minutes and then it's a good idea to replace the battery with a new standard or higher capacity. There is no need to buy an OEM HP part. Try to find one that has more than the standard 4400mah.

  • Second hand windows 10 gave the error 0x0000c14. Formatted with win 7, now nothing works.

    Hello!

So, I recently bought a second hand with 10 installed windows laptop.

After a few days, he stopped working and got 00x0000c14 error at startup.

I fully formatted using a disc of windows 7, and now I cant get it up and working properly.

It starts well on the desktop, but I can't get the installed network driver and so unable to connect to the internet.

In the windows.old folder, there are several drivers of all kinds. I can't install of these places. I tried and it doesn't seem to change anything.

I tried to download the configuration files and transfer them via my phone, but it has the same result as the drivers already installed in the old file win.

How can I get this laptop operational? Any direction is greatly appreciated. I'm trying to treat this as an opportunity to learn and not look at it as a negative circumstance, but if I can't get this to work laptop I'm in a bit of trouble, since I live in a country quite poor and cannot afford another PC.

Computers laptops Lenovo include a function called the Lenovo OneKey Recovery button, which is used to boot into the recovery environment and to reinstall Windows.

If you want to reinstall Windows 8, which means remove applications and personal files and settings, you can use the reset and refresh. This is equivalent to a clean install.

    · Click settings

No, 1 license, 1 computer, you have would remove other computer until you can transfer and it is only if its an OEM System Builder License.

No, the key that can be used with 32-bit or 64-bit of Windows 8 is exclusively for use with the disc 1. You cannot use install both. 1 license, 1 installation, so choose wisely. If you want to install Windows 8 32-bit or 64-bit on another partition or another computer, you must purchase an additional license.
