• OfficeJet 7410 does not connect via WiFi and will not scan

  I don't know if this post is in the right place, but here goes:

  I have a 7410 OfficeJet that was connected to my home network so that I could print/scanning wireless to it from any computer in the House.  It worked well for a while.  I am running Windows XP SP 3.

  We lost power for a few days during the hurricane (Fortunately it was our one central issue), and when the power was restored the 7410 wouldn't connect to the wireless network (we have FiOS).  I checked the unit identifies the correct system ID (and I entered the WEP key), but when I try to install from the desktop computer, it can not find the 7410 (laptop computer also was not able to find the 7410).  The only way I could get the desktop to detect the 7410 is to connect it to the router with an ethernet cable (it does not work with the laptop).  I also can't connect to the wireless printer if I put the IP address in my browser (I'm able to do when it's connected via ethernet).  Not sure if it is a firewall issue.

  When the 7410 is connected to the router with the ethernet cable, I could print to it without any problems.  However, I can't scan from it.  When I try to scan, I get the error message "when trying to scan, could not find the required user interface file (Please reinstall scanning software).  I uninstalled and reinstalled the HP software, but I still get this message.  I also followed the instructions here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00516936 but that has not solved the problem.

  This morning, I uninstalled the printer with the hope that, put it back in place could solve the problem of scanning, but now the computer is not able to find the printer, even if it is connected by ethernet.

  I hope I gave enough information.  Ideas/comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

  I think I see what's happening. You just need to reestablish the connection to the printer wireless. The document below should help you with that. Once you have done so, the software shouldn't have a problem connecting to the wireless printer.

  After several hours with HP support, we have reloaded windows as a last resort.

  This fixed the problem of wireless-N with the ralink wireless card.

  I have created the restore point, applied updates (windows update) via the hp support assistant.

  Eventially has all the recommended updates and ended with several update option.

  No, at least not in any OS prior to 5.0 (5.0 has some interesting options in this area).

  So if your choice is WiFi or direct TCP, you'll have to first consult WiFi and return to direct TCP if the WiFi does not exist or does not work.  The system do it for you.

  However, be aware that, in order for a BES connection it will automatically use the WiFi, it must be able to get a WiFi connection secure to your BES.  So if you are on a public WiFi hot spot and NOT VPN'ed in to your corporate network, you will get free WiFi.  However, in this case, if you tried to force the WiFi, you will get the problem called "split-pipe".  Look for more information on hit-pipe if there is a potential problem for you.
