  If my memory is good, in CS3, I could ctrl + click on the layer alt while using the Brush tool. I can do is more in CS4.   Select the move tool and make sure automatic selection is checked and it is set to layer in the Options bar. To select another layer simply Ctrl + click on it in the document (no need to the ALT key). Is that what you want?

• the direct selection tool - how not to move the shape/path?

  This thing drives me to work my anti-stress ball: when I touch a path with the white arrow, I'm always first in a mode where the path may be moved. But I want to move a blink of an eye or the handle - is there a place where I can put this tool to do not move or or to select never all the way? I have the normal selection for that tool! I think I watch something. Thank you!

  You can edit > Preferences > General and then uncheck the box use area select, but it means that you need to knock or drag on the path when you use the normal selection tool.

  And it's always good to be able to make a success and train your finger to spring.

  Is it just me or the selection tool behavior changed?  Did not use to be able to move a selction without going tansform selection?  Now, by default, you click on a selection and you add (the cursor always has a + unless you change with ctrl or alt or both).

  I can change it to preffs? I'm going crazy and its always been like that?

  Strangely, I had exactly the same behavior after the last update and got halfway through a thread, asking questions on a startup, but thought I'd better try a tool reset everything first.  It fixed for me.  Select any tool, and use the drop-down list to the left of the Options bar and reset all tools.  Unlike preferences, there are now reset to the tilted side tools, and your best chance of a solution is to reset everything.

  If it does not it for you, can you verify that you are not getting confused with display controls to turn when you have selected the tool move?

  I am convinced that it is a bug in Photoshop CC 2014. I am on Windows 7, 64-bit. The 2014.2.2 version, and the version is 2014.204.r.310 x 64. If I select a zone by using the Rectangle tool, the area is described as usual. However, if I use the elliptical selection tool and select the same area, I get the warning. Even if I fill the region using the paint bucket, I always get error if I try to select using the elliptical framing box. Is always successful with the rectangle. I've seen other users re issues. the lasso tool with the same behavior and warning. The usual answer has been put at the edge of the feather to 0. However, it is by default (on my system) to 0.0. Using the selector to improve the contour and by replacing the value 0 (or any other value) makes no difference and in fact after this and clicking OK, the warning screens.

  Is this a bug with the elliptical selection tool? I've updated Photoshop just before submitting this question, and the behavior is unchanged.

  There are different possibilities to solve this situation. Try one of the following options;

  • Decrease the radius of softening of the selection tools,
  • Increase the size of the selection
  • Increase the size of the image (this may decrease the quality of your image),.
  • Ignore the warning message and keep going to work on your file (remember that your selection is still there).
  • Also, make sure that you selected and the targeting of the correct layer.

  You may prefer to set the feather to zero in on the selection tools and use the pen (Ctrl + Alt + D) command for each specific selection. Using the feather command does not change the parameter of smoothing (zero value) on selection tool, so you don't need to wory on previous selections feather RADIUS.

• Problem by selecting tools

  In Adobe photoshop, I can choose the submenus tools. For example when I double-click on the 'rectangle selection tool' all other options such as

  1. elliptical selection tool
  2. branding tool a row
  3. single column selection tool

  However when I don't do the same double click Illustrator no opening of drop-down menus, rather I have to keep alt + double click to change the tool. A that someone already had this problem? IM using a macbook pro with mountain lion, btw.

  Illustrator always uses the click and hold technical to access the hidden tools.

• quick selection tool doesn't work not as expected

  I used photoshop for the last 3 weeks to cut out pictures and create a transparent background.

  Method: Open the img in ps6. then use the Quick Selection tool to select the area of interest, then click on the tab 'Edit' then choose cut on the menu drop down.

  Now the same method gives me a white background.

  I have reset photoshop by reopening with clt alt shift and reset to default... same result

  also reinstalled photoshop... of the efforts in vain.

  I don't know what is happening here, but your steps really do that properly in all cases. Try this.

  (1) make your selection, you see the moving dotted line

  

  2) click on the layer mask icon in the indicated measure. Note the mask is shown on layer 0

  

  (3) on the screen, it will look like this with a transparent background, but nothing has been deleted

  

  (4) If you are not comfortable with being there layer mask, select the mask and right click then choose apply layer mask. I would say it's totally useless, but some people find it easier to understand.

  

  (5) the layer will look like below. I know its tempting to cut and paste, but ultimately you lose things, but to do this way, you are in complete control and can go back if you make a mistake.

  I m following a tutorial to learn the basics of photoshop and I m stuck on the magic wand tool, while doing a very simple task. I'm trying to select the white background of the image and then pressing on delete to remove it and make duck yellow transparent image.

  But when I press the button remove key a window opens and the eyedropper tool is selected. And when I press DELETE, while the background is filled with the yellow color of the duck. Please look at the picture and let me know how I can fix this.

  This happens because you are working on the background layer which is special in Photoshop. What you need to do, is make a regular layer by double clicking with the ALT key or double clicking and pressing ok. Incidentally that's going to happen with any selection tool not only the magic wand. Hope that helps

• The HELP-time acting crazy all of a sudden selection tool

  Hi all, audition CS6 is suddenly strange on me! I'm editing a digital audio book and have to shoot the dialogue of a male character from another file open to insert into my larger narrative... raw file so I come and go between these two files a little, but must remain in the place I left on each one... normally, it works beautifully. When I go to show a different file and return to the previous file 'always open', the average selection time remains the same place I left... but all of a sudden, he started the remaining at the time I left it on the PREVIOUS FILE... when I go back to the other file. Wow, let me rephrase that pack that was too complicated. If I'm in, let's say, position 02:14:12 file and then open the file B and copy a piece of audio, leaving the cursor in THIS file at position 00:00:45, when I switch back to file, the time selection tool is now at position 00:00:45, at the place where I left it.  Yet once, it is not used to do this (as in na not to last night even!)   Hi Melissa,

  Souinds as the preference "Synchronize between files" got turned on.  Open Preferences > General and uncheck "sync selection, zoom level and head of reading in all files in the Waveform Editor"
