• CE520 server consolidation?

  Hello

  I'm trying to get a catalyst Express 520 G change to team up with a server, but no traffic flows.

  If the two ports to connect to the server are defined as switch ports, you can set the etherchannel and it shows up on both ends, but I can't get the traffic to go to the link.

  The server is a box of OSX 10.6 use LACP link and he sees with happiness the link that up but we can't ping the server.  We have same set ups on 3560 switches that work OK, so I don't know if this is a limitation of the CE500s or I have the wrong smartport or other setting.  Although the docs the only smartport, which can make an etherchannel is switch on. Any chance of getting a server team role?

  Hearing, that it works with the 3560 is very encouraging... but I don't know where the problem is right now.  Do you also have the configs of the 3560 in case we need to compare?  I'd be interested to see if the 3560 is configured for the access mode and not in trunking mode.

  Any chance you can fix the config of the CE500 on the case?

  EtherChannel requires both sides to be configured the same... but without knowing how you have configured things it is unclear where the fuse box is.

  I would not be intelligent to be switch mode, unless the server is also configured for operation inter-switch (trunking mode) port.  Both parties must match...  Have you tried to configure statically?

  Always on the virtualization for my college project - what is the best way to determine how to consolidate a small group of (physical) servers underutilized? The servers have different operating and one or two applications that are installed on all systems. CPU utilization varies from 1% for some servers to 65% in one case. How to analyze which servers can be consolidated? More importantly - how I have set the hardware configuration required to host these virtual servers?

• More MHZ is not equal best rate of consolidation?

  I'm doing an evaluation with these two different servers in the system target for the server consolidation:

  An IBM x 3690 with 20 cores at 2 400 MHz, which total 48 000 MHz
  An IBM x 3650 with 12 cores to witch 3 460 MHz total 41 520 MHz

  Everything else is the same on both models (Ram, IO, queue...)

  I'm under the impression that the x 3690 would be chosen as the best scene target by the CP compaired to the x 3650, but this isn't the case.  I find myself with 3 ghosts systems in both scenarios, but the CPU usage is higher on the x 3690 (lowest ratio of grouping).  It makes no sense to me.

  Anyone has any idea why?

  The explanation is a little more detailed than that.

  Currently, Capacity Planner uses a performance fixed rate for each extra carrot dimishing added.  Each heart aboue the first contributes to 90% MHz in the amount of 'effective' cycles it can add to the overall speed.  It is specifically for 64-bit processors.

  Here is a list of number of Core THAT VS MHz effective contributed to this nucleus, in the lower part is the sum of all effective measures of CPU:

  I know this may not seem 100% appropriate for modern hardware, and we look at this ratio of diminishing returns for improvement of the algorithm of optimization.

  This at least provides a concrete example of speed VS CoreCount to determine the number of processor cycles effective that we can get a physical.

• LMS 3.2 (solaris 10) - user tracking: once again "ogs_server_urn" not found! Errors

  LMS 3.2 on a solaris 10 server that had problems with ctm_config.txt in the past (https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2033941) now once again has problems with the device Selector in UT. There are FATAL errors of type it below connected to CampusOGSServer.log:

  I checked the file ctm_config.txt in the directory campus and cmapps, removed the files ctmregistry and ctmregistry.backup from/opt/CSCOpx/MDC/tomcat/webapps/campus/WEB-INF/lib, deleted all files and directories below/opt/CSCOpx/MDC/tomcat/work/Standalone/localhost/and restart the services.

  What I noticed by looking directly in the database of the CMF is that "CampusOgsGroupCacheTable" is completely empty where the following tables contain data:

  I still thought of the option to export all groups of CMF (or at least groups of campus) and delete all tables of OGS and re-import the groups but when I try to do it I get the following error:

  just to be sure, I download the 2 files ctm_config.txt...

  Instead of setting DYNAMIC_PORT_ALLOCATION = 0, replace perms on both ctm_config.txt 0444 files, use the original port and see if UT works.  If so, run in this configuration for some time see if corruption returns.  It should not since casuser won't be able to write to the file.

• intrusion via CFMAIL sends only not to external address

  I have a new web server that I have tested before turning on live. I ran into a problem of intrusion via cfmail. The server is

  Windows 2008 R2, 64Gig ram, 64-bit, IIS 7.5, Coldfusion 9.0.2 multi server, consolidation of cases CF 2, JDK1.7.0_71

  We had a company CF and harden so it can be linked to the curing, but I'm not sure.

  < intrusion via cfmail doesn't send e-mail to recipients outside our field of work/field. The tag < intrusion via cfmail > 1 below sends the e-mail but the 2nd one does not work. That's what I see when trying to send via the tag < intrusion via cfmail > 2nd external e-mail address field

  -no errors on the page I run in browser

  -l' email is not received at the [email protected] (the syntax is correct)

  -the #2 attempt is displayed in the mail/Undelivr folder

  -mail.log has this error

  Intrusion via CFMAIL is simply a wrapper for the underlying methods of mail Java API, so it shouldn't be any problem with him.

  Looks like that the SMTP server is not registered to send mails. So here's the problem with the SMTP server events, and not with the intrusion via CFMAIL

• Several hard drives

  I just got a Dell 2950 III with 6x1TB drives that I intend using virtual machine. What is the best way to put in place so I can enjoy the storage full I availible for VM? Should I go ahead and install ESX then in ESX create extensions? Or do I have to go about it another way?

  And just as an observation. I received that one server at the moment, but our final installation will be actually 2 Dell 2950 III with discs hard 6x1TB.

  As a first step, you should think about type of load disk in your virtual machines and choose appropriate RAID. Then slice it to LUNS not more than 2 TB each.

  After that ESX or ESXi will create default layout on LUNS that you choose to boot from and automatically creates the VMFS data store on the remaining space. ESX take a few gigabytes for himself.

  All other LUNS will be available for manual creation of data store.

  You can of course check if Xtravirt Virtual SAN is interesting for you, because the ESX servers with BIG local data store is primarily intended for server consolidation.

• VMware harware technique

  IM new with VMware and im very interested in its power for server consolidation. Here's the question that VMware is installed on a windows server 2003 32-bit standard edition the hardware config is:

  Intel Xeon 2.5 Ghz QC

  4 GB memory

  drive HARD 3 x 146

  This is detectable by the 4 GB memory VMware? As far as I know windows 2003 32 bit can detect 3 GB of memory. Im still a newbie with this kind of stuff so please bear with me. Thank you

  I'm not 100% certain on that.  However, on my home PC which has 4 GB of RAM but running XP Pro 32 bit (who only sees 3 GB) Workstation will allow me to book 2764 MB memory for all the machines running.  This leads me to believe that the answer is 'no '.

• I need a storage policy

  I would like to take advantage of this group of ideas.

  -2 machines, single processor Quad Core Xeon 5430 - 2.66 GHz (Harpertown), SCSI RAID 1, 4 GB, 146 GB 10 000 rpm.

  -VMware ESXi on both.

  -Operating system is FreeBSD 7.1 64 on virtual machines.

  -For all 5 computers virtual and load balancing for a manual failover.  For example assignments change IP in the Panel when there is a problem.  DNS round robin load balancing.

  This is not a typical VMware environment.  My interest is not consolidate servers but rather portability, performance and failover reserve.  Balanced load site is a web server that serves the time between 12,000 and 45 000 unique visitors.  The disk controller is not a cheapie so it is quite it bit faster than a single SCSI on readings and has no visible punishment on writing, not that it matters because I am not related to records in the native environment.  In the native environment, I use most of the 4 GB of ram, that's why we are moving to 64-bit.  We are are proven, we can run this on a single dual AMD server, but it is typed too.  As we move this site anyway, I decided to use it as a test for ESXi.  If she can stand in virtue of the present, I have no need to worry about its use anywhere.  After all, server consolidation is to make a server even when busy, no?  This will make busy.

  In addition to being open to criticism of the plan above, I don't think I have a good conservation strategy. I need your ideas on a strategy for the SCSI, store backups VM and VM and user data operating systems models.

  One of the things I've heard in the in the webinar was NOT at volumes local VMFS of installation, not even for the swap.  I do not have available CF, but I do iSCSI and NAS.  I have a kvm, the box is on the list of compat, but I can't seem to install a USB stick to boot from, so I guess I'll need a little mirror to launch the ESXi so that I can connect to the virtual machines on the iSCSI.  Since we are talking about the software initiators, we talk about moving the SCSI, treatment of the HBA to the CPU, making it the largest RAM and CPU.  What you say about it?

  Yes, this is exactly the case.

  The last statement is for Clusters of shared within the VM disk. Don't not to store the virtual machines. You cannot use local VMFS. Even though I always like to have one for reasons of redundancy. What happens if the storage matrix dies for some reason any? I have enough local disk to run virtual machines from there if necessary.

  I would like to clearly understand the meaing of these statements.  For example we say in a situation of balance of load that you have several servers to access the same data VM on the same logical unit number?  If so, how that is arbitrage?  DBMS would certainly be a special case.

  The VMFS is up-to-date, you will need to store your virtual machines on a Cluster to the current file system, which might be NFS, or VMFS on iSCSI.

  What NFS/iSCSI servers you plan to use?

• GSX 1.4 migration to?

  Hey all, first post!

  I run a small infrastructure at a public library. When I started working there last year, I did a good amount of server consolidation using GSX 1.4 on top of Debian 4. Currently, we run 8 servers in a HP Proliand DL 320 3gz, 4 GB of ram and 2x80gb SCSI 10 k disks. It is our infrastructure entire backedn.

  For us, go to VMWARE GSX was the right choice, and I look at now spend a VMware support for the commercial version, with some back end, support phone, just in case.

  We all our virtual machines weekly backup using ssh on our internal backup server. We also have a 320 DL spare as stand-by alternative for manual fail over hot.

  I have several questions about migrating to ESX

  The first will ensure that OS software. I see that ESXi is now FREE. So what's the difference betweek ESXi and ESX 3.5, which I guess is the last pay-for version.  We HA or DRS because we do not have a system of blade. Can we just use ESXi and buy a year of more support?

  Second question is about the material. I see that VMWARE turns on a ROM chip on HP DL servers. I think going with a modest HP DL 360 G5 in a RAID 1 configuration. That would be all that I need? all I want is 2 SAS 300 GB hot swapable drives. Currently, we have everything on the 2 x 80 GB drives and space is tight.

  I have a vsphere esxi Server 5 with 2 virtual machines. SBS 2011 and vcenter. The server started to be very slow, so that all users could not work. So I closed the two vm and restarted the esxi. The vcenter is in place, but for my sbs 2011, I have a black screen. There is a message saying 'consolidation of disks of virtual machines is necessary. " In the Snapshot Manager, there is none but I don't see where there are large files that are instant, so I have to consolidate.

  Because the server was very slow, I have no recent backup. My questions are;

  -The sbs 2011 has been the start for an hour now, it is consolidating?

  -Should I force a shutdown of the virtual machine and do a consolidation?

  I see no error messages in the vsphere client. There seems to be some ongoing writing, so I don't know if I should stop the virtual machine or not.

  The answer to the first question is no. The snapshot consolidation happen automatically after a reboot. If there is a lot of shots, the virtual machine may take a lot of time in power.

  My suggestion would be to leave the virtual machine until it either boots or dies and then do a consolidation

  Hello, I read the manuals and understand the process as much as I have not actually started the consolidation. I have a Compaq ML350 server which has a default of fan cooling and want to make a virtual machine as a starting point. It will be important for the virtual machine to have the same computer name and be a member of our domain. The only question which does not seem to be addressed has to do with the old server. I need to have the available printserver. I know that you cannot have two SID, names of computers or IP addresses on a network domain at the same time. There is an option to change the name of the virtual machine before you start building. It would be wise to use a temporary computer name while doing my first consolidiation/conversion. Once completed, I could stop the printserver, remove the domain, start the virtual machine, rename it, join it to the domain, and then set the IP address to match my old material printserver. I guess correctly? I can't wait to leave the company without a printserver for more than a little bit. I guess additional servers, I wanted to convert should be treated in the same way? If I posted in the wrong place, please accept my apologies. If there is other material that I may have missed that might also be useful, but I have about 4 different PDF so far. Thank you. brand
