Server ESX to power a machine virtual "cannot open disk scsi0:0. »

Hi, I get the following error message when trying to turn on a virtual machine, which I copied into the ESXi 4.0 data store u1 server from a vmware workstation. I added to the inventory and tried the power. Here is what I get:

Cannot open disk scsi0:0: type of disc not supported or not valid

  • Cannot open disk ' * hard ' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on. Reason: One of the parameters is not valid.

I have 4 virtual servers running on a host ESX 4. 3. run OK but 1 gives the following error when you choose works in Vsphere client.

    Welcome to the community,

This virtual machine successfully powered on since July 23?

To me, it seems that something went wrong with the clichés (I guess they are / were created by a backup application). Due to the size of the files I guess more that snapshots were created and not modified.

If this is the case, you can delete the virtual machine to inventory, edit the vmx file by

    replacement of

    scsi0:1.filename = LHMU-VIC04_1 - 000004.vmdk

    with

    scsi0:1.filename = LHMU - VIC04_1.vmdk

then right-click on the vmx file in browser data store and add it to the inventory.

Before adding it to the inventory, delete the snapshot vmdk files (those with '00000 x' in their file names) as well as the vmsd file. BTW, you can also remove the zdump file if you want.

If you are not sure if snapshots contain valid data, take a look at the (small) header files vmdk. If the CID and the parentCID match, snapshots were created while the virtual machine has been powered down.

If you are not sure, please post back before doing anything.

  • Cannot open disk (Moved from Windows XP to Win7)

Because a hardware failure I had to buy a new laptop. Using an external HARD drive Bay I could record my VM and copy the folder on my new laptop. After the installation of VMWare server and add my virtual machine, I tried to start it but I failed for the following reason:

Cannot open disk 'D:\Virtual Machines\dev\dev.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on. Reason: Cannot lock the file.

I already tried to remove the hard disk from the virtual machine and add it again but no luck.

    Please I need some advice!

    Thank you in advance

Seems that the backup was made VMware Server again looked at the file. If please delete all files *.lck (and folders), then try again.

    1. what happens when you double-click on the HARD drive?

I suggest you to install the updates one by one on your computer in a clean boot state, and check if the problem reappears.

Download and save the Setup on your desktop package and try to install the same one by one and check what update is causing the problem.

To do this, you must enter the number of the Windows Update in the search field in the link provided below.

  • Cannot open disk «...» Boot Camp partition.vmdk","could not lock file ".

I upgraded to VMWare 2.0.1 of the trial version, but now when I try to run it with my Boot Camp Partition, I get:

    "Could not open the disk" / Users/deep / / Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/Virtual Machines/Boot Camp partition.vmwarevm/Boot Camp partition.vmdk Camp/%2Fdev%2Fdisk0/Boot' or one of the snapshot files depends on. "."

Reason: cannot lock the file. »

I would not be surprised if something was corrupt, because I migrated the entire Mac to a Mac whose hard drive was not.  I know that the Boot Camp partition works because when I start from it, all right. My guess is that the virtual Boot Camp makes machine refers to the broken old Partion Boot Camp on my old Mac.  How do I start again?  Just nuke the directory "/ Users/deep/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/Virtual Machines / Boot Camp/%2Fdev%2Fdisk0" set?

    Thoughts?

    "deep."

    .PS

I'm on Mac OS X 10.5.5 on a new MacBook Pro.

Check out this thread: Re: damaged Bootcamp partition?.

In short, you can crush the Boot Camp partition.vmwarevm in this directory.  It will be recreated the next time you run merge.

I can't open Disk Defragmenter. The computer is 6 years old and have never had this problem before.  I'm afraid that this is something that I've made or changed everything trying to "clean up" the computer.  What can I do so that it can start working again?  Thanks for any help.

  • You cannot power on a virtual machine in a virtual machine

    Hello

Only, I converted a physical blade to a virtual machine running on ESX4 using VMware converter 4. The converted virtual computer is running VMware server 1.0.5 and machines virtual option 2. After the P2V process, I am unable to power on virtual machines in VMware server. I get the following message:

You cannot power on a virtual machine in a virtual machine

I see there are some entries that I can put in the vmx file

    monitor_control.vt32 = 'TRUE '.

    monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = 'TRUE '.

However, this does not solve my problem. Is it possible to edit a VMX VMware Server so the virtual prompt runs in a virtual machine of ESX4

    Thanks in advance

    Oli

VMware Server 1.x does not support nested virtual machines.  Workstation 7 is the first product with the official support of virtualization nested, although other recent VMware products should work, with some constraints.  See nested running VMs.

  • Install ESX 3.5 in a virtual machine on ESX 3.5

I'm under ESX 3.5 update 2 and I would like to install a 3.5 VM ESX to test different configurations.  I've seen many examples of ESX running on one machine virtual Workstation but strangely I found no examples of what I'm trying to do, although I saw a thread on execution of ESX 4.0 ESX 3.5, but no details on the configuration steps.

I created the virtual machine as another 64-bit with 4 CPUs and 16 GB of RAM and E1000 card.  After creating the VM, I edited the vmx file to add

    monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = TRUE

    monitor_control.vt32 = TRUE

as in the examples of workstation I saw online.

The installation went well, but when I execute the VM it pegs all 4 processors constantly and runs really slowly.  Is this an impossible installation, or is there something else I need to change?  If there is another thread that answers this point please to her.

    -GDillon

ESX 3.5 is not compatible 32-bit VT you need an AMD64 host with AMD - V support.  See nested running VMs.

  • Cannot open the disk could not be locked the file

Error when you try to share a drive between two virtual machines.  I have two web servers VM and a disk shared data, each web server has 20 GB for operating system disks, and they share a 500 GB drive for data.  I use clustered OCFS2 file system later.

See the 500 GB drive, but when we turn on the two VM the second throws the following error:

"An error was received from the ESX host turning on VM Myweb1.

Cannot open disk ' / vmfs/volumes/MyWeb1/MWeb1.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.

    Cannot lock the file.

I've read about this error before but can't find where and understand that it's either because I don't set them up right to start with, or that there is some extra config I can do in the s flat *.vmx file?

Here's what we did when creating virtual machines and a shared disk, is there something missing

Create 2 new virtual machines for Web servers with disks of 40GB of basis for the operating system and then add a new hard drive to one of the virtual machines in vSphere BUT must be correctly configured for sharing between multiple virtual machines.

For example, to change the settings > Add > hard drive > create a new virtual disk > choose size and choose 'Thick eager disposition to zero' > under 'Virtual Device Node' choose a "SCSI (1:0)" then finish.

Once the drive has been zero there would stay out in 'Change settings' > click new controller SCSI 1 and choose virtual disks 'Physical' can be shared between virtual machines on any server.

Change the settings of the 2nd virtual machine and choose Add hard drive, choose existing, navigate to which you have created the VM 1 drive, make sure you assign it the same SCSI (1:0).

Thanks a lot a lot a lot for any help in advance

Did you also step on 2 VM below

After the disc has been zero go back outside to 'Change settings' > click new controller SCSI 1 and choose virtual disks 'Physical' can be shared between virtual machines on any server.

  • Cannot issue the open disk

    Hi all

I have ESXi installed on our server. I received a few VM folders with our test WHAT VM inside our office in europe. Using the vSphere Client I downloaded the files for the virtual machine for the farm data store, but when I try to start the virtual machine, I get one:

Cannot open disk ' / vmfs/volumes/xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx-xxx-xxxxxxxxxxx/VM_files/BASE_VM_xxxxxxxx/xxxxxxxx/theapparentlymissingfile.vmdk ' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.
The system cannot find the specified file.

I have gone through the forums here and on Google and tried several of the corrections proposed such as the removal of the. VMDK.lck file. There was another who proposed changing the vmx file and change the name of the file that is the same as the one I had.

The file is there, but for some reason, he doesn't see it. y at - there something I am missing being new to VMware. I have to start from scratch, if I can't get these working locally.

    Thanks in advance

You can download the http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1023856 tool (see "Accessories").

To convert the virtual disk to an ESXi supported format run

    VMware - vdiskmanager.exe - r 'Digipos book PC SP1.vmdk' t 4 "Digipos book PC SP1 - new.vmdk.

then download the two newly created files ("Digipos book PC SP1 - new.vmdk ' and Digipos book PC SP1-new - flat hard') on the ESXi host and change the settings for the virtual machine, i.e. to remove the bad virtual disk and add the right pair.

Please be aware that the resulting virtual disk will have a size of 40GB.
