Server POP3 or IMAP?

I'm trying to set up an e-mail account after getting my laptop allowed back to factory settings. I wonder if my server is POP3 or IMAP and I need an address. Also I need an address for the outgoing mail server address. My broadband is with btinternet. Thanks for any help on this.

Contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider).

They offer your broad band/Dial-up connection.

Ask them to:

username
password for your service account to wide band/Dial-Up with them

Server of incoming POP3 mail
outgoing mail SMTP server

The above information is required to set up Windows Mail.

  • In Windows Live Mail 2011, how to move from POP3 to IMAP without losing messages or folders?

I need to change the server for incoming mail from POP3 IMAP without losing messages or files to an e-mail account in Windows Live Mail 2011

You will find support for Windows Live Mail, starting your own, new thread in the appropriate forum here-online http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windowslive/forum/livemail

Note: Only messages currently available on webmail account page (e.g., http://mail.google.com) will be available for Windows Live Mail once you switch from POP3 to IMAP.

  • When I try to open my email on my new desktop, an error window tells me my host server POP3 cannot be found.

My laptop receives by e-mail very well. Windows confiures my wireless network settings. Problem: when I try to open my email on my new desktop PC , an error window tells me my host server POP3 cannot be found. I have tried everything; network connections, Internet options; etc. I get connection otherwise for the internet Google, Facebook, online banking, but not to my email. I entered my full POP and SMTP addresses, but they are lost for my internet connection LAN, which is automatically set to be managed by Intel. I tried to reconfigure it and tried to find Windows wireless network settings. On my laptop if I lose the connection he asks me if I want Windows to manage my connection. And it does!  Help! I really want to be able to find the network Windows wireless.

    Hello

If you use the internet OK for other things, the problem with Outlook Express (e-mail client).

Check your server settings and out against your ISP help pages. I've seen cox help pages that involve your incoming server should be pop.east.cox.net (note the absence of the number 3 after pop). The outgoing server may be smtp.cox.net or maybe smtp.east.cox.net.

Where should I go on my PC to fix this?

In this case, use the settings given here:

Use port 587 instead of port 25 of the SMTP server.

To give you a little history, Windows Mail does not support the HTTP messaging, which for a long time was the only authorized method of access for free Hotmail/MSN accounts. In addition, given that the development of Windows Mail was frozen in July 2006, there no knowledge that Microsoft has enabled POP access for free Hotmail/Live/MSN accounts in February 2009. Therefore, the Windows Mail Account Setup Wizard is hardcoded to reject the Hotmail and MSN addresses. To work around this limitation, when you enter your Hotmail/MSN email address, initially, use a fake domain, such as * address email is removed from the privacy *. After the account setup is complete, you can go back into the settings and correct your email address.

  • How do I change entering Windows Live Mail from POP3 to IMAP mail server. I have a Windows 7 PC

When I added my icloud email address in Windows Live Mail I inadvertently put POP3 for server inciming and now I can't change it.

It only allows me to fill the first page

Then you select manually configure the settings on the first page.

What is the domain of the account you are trying to add - the part after the ' @' symbol? Normally, the behavior you're seeing should occur only if WLMail recognizes the domain and can apply the settings of the account automatically. I do not think that it recognizes icloud.*

I hope I understand your question... You can not send mail, but you can receive. Is this correct? If this is the case, check the setting of the outgoing mail server. Make sure that your user name and password are there.

Settings > Mail, Contacts, calendar > your account > account > outgoing mail server - tap the name of the server next to SMTP check in the main server and make sure that your user name and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

  • What is POP, POP3 and IMAP, when I set up my email account in the HP ePrint App?

I did as much research as I can do regarding the implementation of the HP ePrint App e-mail accounts.  If you do not see your e-mail information listed here, feel free to post below or contact your internet service company provider, by phone or e-mail, or to anyone else who might know this. I am sure there are many others that could be added, but this is a pretty comprehensive list.  I hope you find what you need to complete the setup of your e-mail applications.

I noticed information differs from site to site, but as I've learned over time, masking the area and companies buying other companies, I just studied all the information that I could find and also if one of the names of hosts or ports does not work, then you can continue see below on this page to see if this information is the same. At that point, if you do not find what you need here, I would say that you have done all you can do before contacting appropriate for your information by email support team.

Most of the links is active and those listed below should send you directly the pages I pulled this information since then, but only a few of them came from the real support of the sites themselves (Apple support was vague, as well as Microsoft, Macintosh and commonly used Internet services providers). Save you time by searching here first.  I hope that you will find what you need in this one-stop-shop and if you get an email that is not listed here, please report it below and I'll add it to this original document.

Finally, as this information comes to the forum and other non-official sites, I want to add that it is a document of copy/paste/edit-for-easy-read I created in my spare time. It is a very long document, so I do is recommended to use the search and find keys to find the email that you need, but the upper part of this definition has as to what the servers, ports and are host names and the basic setup in case you need to know what are these options and their meanings.

Here are the most common settings needed to implement most of the Clients POP3/IMAP e-mail or devices:

The following information below can be found at http://www.swestcom.com/Support/q4.htm

    "What is POP3?

Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) is a standard messaging protocol used to receive e-mail from a remote server to a local e-mail client. POP3 allows you to download e-mail messages to your local computer and read them even when you're offline. »

    "What does IMAP mean?

The Message IMAP (Internet Access) protocol is a messaging protocol that is used to access e-mail on a remote web server from a local client. IMAP and POP3 are the two most common of messaging Internet protocols to retrieve emails. The two protocols are supported by all e-mail clients modern and web servers.

"Main difference between IMAP and POP3:

The POP3 protocol assumes that there is only one client connected to the mailbox. On the other hand, the IMAP protocol allows simultaneous access by multiple clients. IMAP is suitable for you if your mailbox is about to be managed by several users. »

    "What is SMTP?

SMTP simple Mail Transfer Protocol () is the standard protocol for sending emails across the Internet. SMTP uses TCP port 25 or 2525 and sometimes you may have problems to send your messages in case your ISP has closed port 25 (How to check if port 25 is open?). To determine the SMTP server for a given domain name, the MX (Mail eXchange) should have more information."

    "When you set up:

    • POP - choose that POP-UP and the port entering the default server to 110
    • IMAP - choose IMAP and the port entering the server by default to 143
    • All other parameters are the same.
    • Username = [email protected]
    • Password = the password you set up when you set up your mailbox
    • = Incoming mail server mail.yourdomain.com
    • = Mail server outgoingsmtp.yourdomain.com
      • Outgoing requires the authentication of the server (typically found in the settings or advanced options)
      • Do NOT select "Log on using Secure Password Authentication".
      • Use the same username and password as incoming or select "use same settings as incoming.
      • Outgoing server port= 2525 or 587
        • It is subject to change according to individual preferences of your ISP.

Note - Replace with your domain name for "yourdomain.com" and replace the first part of your e-mail address for "user".

    Email ports
For networks, a port means endpoint to a logical connection. The port number identifies what type of port it is. Here's the e-mail ports by default for:

    • POP3 - port 110
    • IMAP - port 143
    • SMTP - port 25
    • HTTP - port 80
    • (SSMTP) - port 465 secure SMTP Protocol
    • Secure IMAP (SSL IMAP4) - port 585
    • IMAP4 over SSL (IMAPS) - port 993
    • Secure POP3 (POP) SSL - port 995.

It is just to recap, a series of ports for people who need this information when you configure the HP ePrint app so that they could see their email from the app, I've collected over time.  I am sure that other applications also need this information.  Although long, I couldn't find a more complete place to retrieve this information.  Feel free to post additional information, faulty information or other associates subject below that it is simply a collection of data and it would be virtually impossible to test all of them. Thank you!

  • Mail server outgoing Comcast IMAP offline

I'm on OS 10.11.3 and Mail 9.2 0n an iMac. I have an IMAP of Comcast account. The outgoing mail server is offline. The Comcast site is not really useful, as it shows how to configure using Mail 7 - entry in '9' screens are different. It doesn't seem to be a way to enter the incoming and outgoing port information. I tried to restart, again my password, etc.. I know that the fault is not at the level of the Comcast server, I sent mail to my account via outlook of suggestions on how to solve this problem?

    Hi Fl iMac,

Thank you for using communities Support from Apple. Sorry to hear that you encounter these problems with your e-mail account in El Capitan. If you think it may be a problem with incorrect port, it is possible to change the configuration of the port for both mail servers incoming and outgoing, but not in the same place:

-For the incoming server, you would go to Mail > Preferences > accounts, select the account in question on the left side, and then select the Advanced tab to the right. Must say Port: and allow you to select the authentication.

-For the outgoing server, you would go to Mail > Preferences > accounts and select your account on the left. Then, in the tab main account information , where it says mail server outgoing (SMTP), you click on the menu down and select Edit SMTP Server list... In the window that opens, you would select the correct outgoing server in the list above, then select the tab Advanced settings below. Again, you should see an option that defines the Port: and authentication.

If ports of edition does not solve the problem or you still have other problems of e-mail, you can also find this article helpful:
