Service DcomLaunch CPU Spikes

Having a lot of follow-up of my E5440 Latitude due to fan problems, I spotted the large CPU spikes every 9 seconds (no applications open or network traffic):

I can see that it is caused by a group of services "DcomLaunch.  My old laptop with the same operating system, software, anti-virus (Avast) does not show these spikes.

Looking at similar problems reported on the net, it was down to a third-party service/driver or malware but I did a full scan and it always happens in Mode safe:

Also, I went through disabling drivers and services as much as possible, but no luck.  Seems that it must be something to do with the power management?

Good work, I'm not a player like a CPU 25% spike every 9 seconds would be totally unacceptable.

Update!

I managed to install an older version that is contradictory of the stuff of management of power ("Dell Feature Enhancement Pack") in July.

Long history know why... The option for the updated driver list of RSS software irrelevant even not return for the E5440!

That uninstall and install the latest version of 'Power Manager 2' relevant stopped the peaks of the processor.

Apply new thermal modes does not work well... Tired of these Dell buggy garbage, property

  • Satellite L755 - PSK2YE - upgrade of Windows 8 - CPU spikes driven at the start of app

    Hello

Recently, I upgraded my OS Windows 8 Pro.
Since then, when I open an application or a new Web tab which requires some effort from shockwave plugin or gpu process, I noticed a spike cpu which lasts 3-9 seconds.

These spikes increase the temperature of the cpu from 50 ° c to 70 ° c.
But when the spike is complete, gets back to its usual temperature (50 ° c).

I have tried almost everything I read, but so far nothing has solved the problem. I tried the clean boot, safemode (network option checked), active the windows updates manual, at the request of maintenance at a specific time, disabled an option that allows atheros controller turn the unit off when the laptop is in sleep mode.

My drivers are all up to date, so I don't really know what's going on, so I would be sincerely grateful for your help.

PS: Three months ago, I sent my laptop to a toshiba centre clean the flue.
I use balanced energy mode, but the same problem occurs when I use high performance one.

However in power saving mode there is no ears at all. I used to see the same behavior when I reduced the maximum processor state to 95%.

    > However in power saving mode, there are at all without crampons. I used to see the same behavior when I reduced the maximum processor state to 95%.

The spikes appear due to stress CPU.
I noticed something similar to running some applications Chrome for a few seconds, the CPU would be stressed to the point where the fans begin to run with the highest performance. After about 5-10 seconds, CPU load goes down and the fans run slower.

I guess that's a result of bad programming of some applications such as constraints of software the CPU too

  • Slow computer - CPU spikes

Dell Dimension 3000 Desktop, Windows XP - SP3.   My computer was slow substantially lately so I researched the potential causes.  Performed several scans for viruses and malware with none detected.  Ran a msconfig to see if something was running at startup I knew - again nothing unexpected.  Then I looked in the Windows Task Manager.  With nothing else running - it's nothing listed in the Applications tab and do not touch the keyboard or the mouse, when look at the CPU usage, I noticed there's a spike to nearly 60% for 5 seconds of every minute.  Is this normal, or should I look for more strong something running in the background?  Suggested next steps?

This has been resolved in the end like a malware problem.

  • Vista does not start after I disabled the service DCOMLauncher

Hi all.   I really hope that someone can help me with this, because I can't use my computer at all, and I have to use a notebook different to write this post.

The problem: Windows Vista does not start with the normal settings or Mode without failure.   To be more precise, after Vista starts, he has only a black screen and a limited mouse functionality.

The background & problem: I use Windows Vista Home Premium SP 2.   I have disabled the DCOMLauncher Service using the program Autoruns from Sysinternal.

What I tried: I tried to start Vista in Mode safe with no result.

Thanks to all those who are trying to help me.

When you choose Safe Mode choose last known good startup.

As long as your subsequent boots are deemed unsuccessful, which is perhaps not the case, this will start the configuration before using Autoruns.

    Safe Mode command prompt works?

  • Regular CPU spikes every 15 seconds with USB 2.0 audio, fix, but refuses to install.

When streaming audio via the audio interface USB 2.0 Audio Class Compliant on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit update, there's regular CPU usage spikes up to 100% every 15 seconds, sometimes amounting to audio dropouts. Utility LatencyMon v6.5 reports that huge amount of CPU time is spent inside the usbport.sys driver whenever there are any audio stream of isochronous USB happening. I know that there is a supposed to be available to target exactly this problem - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/981214 fix - but the fix refuses to install, probably because the fix itself is quite old and does not seem to recognize the latest versions of the drivers usb*.sys on any instance to date of Windows 7.

I have tested and confirmed this problem on two different mobile-class workstation laptops from different manufacturers, both based on Intel 7 series / C216 QM77 chipset (Panther Point) and using the integrated chipset USB host controllers to connect to the audio interface (a 18i20 of Focusrite Scarlett). One of the laptops has EHCI and controllers xHCI routed to different physical ports, the other laptop has all the physical ports connected to xHCI; It might be interesting to note that the problem seems identical to the audio interface is connected to EHCI or xHCI. All other possible causes that usbport.sys were eliminated by a careful configuration and the measure, i.e. There is no limitation, no turbo CPU, no CPU C-State, not of processor HyperThreading, no food, no virtual memory paging management event, not even any SMI (System Management interrupt) passes, everything boils down to usbport.sys hogging the CPU.

It would also be interesting to note that according to Intel, there are a bunch of bugs known to host USB controller Series 7 / C216 chipsets, one can find an Errata section detailed from page 15 of the document Spec update - http://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/specification-updates/7-series-chipset-pch-spec-update.pdf

Could this problem hogging CPU actually come from bugs in the hardware host controller USB drive operating system driver nuts? Or it comes from a bug unrelated in the OS driver? And what happened to the existing of the fix, why he refuses to install the operating system to date and how is the same old problem suddenly reappeared on automatically updating Windows 7 systems?

It is in any event, that my most sincere and humblest hold like a paying customer for a hotfix update fix this if possible, one that is truly committed to settle. Without corrective work, Windows 7 machines are quite useless for all serious audio work. I also feel that I speak not only for me but for all members of the global computer audio community who are trying to use Windows 7 with audio USB.

Just upgraded my Windows 7 Professional for Windows 10 Pro and the issue hogging CPU is now gone - no pics no CPU more, more dropouts no audio USB. (It would still be nice to have a fix for Windows 7 someday, too)

I am wanting to know how to connect to the CPU for service usage.

With the help of Process Explorer and performance monitor, I identified as "SVCHost (netsvcs)", which contains about twelve different departments within the svchost process. I tried to use "Process Explorer", but so far I could not catch the process while it actually is maxing out the CPU.

    Hi Kibertrons,

Thanks for the reply with the status of the issue.

Here in this situation, I would suggest trying the following methods and check if it works for you.

    Method 1:

Run the troubleshooter of System Maintenance and check if it helps. This troubleshooting will help you solve common problems with Windows.

Follow the steps to run the Troubleshooter:

    (a) press Windows + W on the keyboard.
    (b) type Troubleshooting in the search box and press ENTER.
    (c) select Troubleshooting. Click view all , and then select System Maintenance.
    (d) click Next and follow the instructions to run the troubleshooter.

    Method 2:

Put the computer in a clean boot state, and check if the problem persists. This will help you to determine which third party/PPP program causing this problem (it will determine if there any other program/third-party application another Chrome is causing this issue).

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 or Windows 8 / 8.1:

  • Using too much CPU only when loading the network

When FF works closely with the network (wired or wireless) card for access to the network, CPU utilization spikes in way more than 70% and he stayed there until the page loading process finishes web.
After the upload is complete, the CPU usage remains somewhere between 5-10%.

When I look at clips youtube 1080 p, where FF is duty next buffer part of this clip I watch, new CPU use peaks above 70% with the flash plugin and gives a total of a 100% of cpu for a few moments and use which make this clip to stop playing or to frame bad times, and ties.

I have been activated in about: config webgl acceleration to activate the force and that much improve the initial problem, then I activated gfx.direct2D - activated force and also to improve the problem remaining.
I also disable the safe_mode parameter file adobe flash config protectedmode = 0.

I have to mention that the initial problem was way to bad ...

Now I get to point when I don't know what to do so that FF does not use much CPU loading pages.
As you can see I use to publish this version of Nightly 64 bit (I think it's the 64-bit version...) which is much more better and I would like to read youtube 1080 p clip normally, after that I have wait a few moments to buffer, before starting to play.
Version 32 bit FF won't let me watch YouTube without framing hurt when the clip is buffered.

I was monitoring the Task Manager and all the processes listed... and there, I can't blame antivirus or firewall to the peaks of the processor. Also if I do the rest of the network traffic, as well as inside the network custom CPU even file copy flinch.

Can someone help or give an opinion on what setting to do, so I can eliminate these spikes?

    Thanks in advance!

    Problem solved partially:

I have observed that the CPU spikes occur not only while I use FF or mozilla nightly, but on all web browsers (Chrome, IE, Opera, etc) that I have used, while these browsers accessing the network.

Uninstalling the firewall of the solution of the AV portion has helped a lot and by also disabling the bed in the firewall solution of W7, but for long term use, this isn't the right answer (for my at least). Without any firewall FF work or installed works like a charm, while the CPU usage is increased at a decent level of 50% max (total tasks and running services)!

Anyway, as I said earlier, my pc without any firewall operation is not a good think to do, so I'll replace my computer with a faster, or I'm going to overclock it at a level that zapping INTERNET and navigation will not infringe too much on the performance of the system, or... I live whit it and I accept the limitations...

Perhaps, in the development of the FF, programmers will keep in mind that not everyone on this planet has powerful processors - and... give a few options... to decrease the CPU at acceptable levels, event, even if they use the firewall solutions that violate on the CPU while FF is buffering of data across the network.

I should also mention that Mozilla nightly (64-bit) and FF, are always better then IE - in my opinion - which is.

    Hi Joseph,.

    Follow these steps.

Go to Start | Settings | Control Panel and double click on automatic updates.

Check mark the option at the bottom to turn off the automatic updates.

    Click apply/OK, and then restart.

Svchost consumes always 100% cycles CPU?

If this is the case, follow these steps.

Click Start, run, copy and paste this command and click OK: services.msc

In the list of Services, you can see Background Intelligent Transfer Service ?

Here's a pix what he looks like.

If it is not listed, follow these steps to register the BITS service.

Open the Windows search tool, copy / paste the following text, and then click Search: qmgr.dll

Research should show this file in the following locations:

    C:\Windows\System32
    C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\bits

It may be present in C:\WINDOWS\system32, but if you can see it, follow these steps to register the service.

Click on start, run and copy/paste: regsvr32 qmgr.dll and click OK

Do the same with this file: regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll

Reboot the system and then copy / paste this command into the field run:
    %windir%\System32\rundll32.exe setupapi, InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\inf\qmgr.inf

If you are prompted to insert the Windows installation CD, ignore this and in the dialog below, replace the path C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386

If you could only see qmgr.dll in C:\WINDOWS\system32 you can change the path to that instead.

Restart the PC and then go to the Services and you should be able to see BITS in the list.
Double click on it and then on the general tab, click the Start button to start the service manually. This is just a test to make sure that it works correctly.

If you get 2 error: cannot find the specified file, click on start, then run again and copy / paste the following command, and then click OK:
    Tracking Add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS\Parameters /v ServiceDll /t REG_EXPAND_SZ /d %windir%\System32\qmgr.dll

Reboot again and try once more to start the PIECES. It should work fine now, but in the unlikely case where it fails again, run the following command, and then press ENTER:
    Reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackup

Reboot once more and then do the following.

Go to this link and install the IE8 December Update:
    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-GB/download/details.aspx?ID=41404

If you use IE7, use this link instead:

Finally, go to the Windows Update site and you should be able to download normally.
