    Hello

    1. what happens when you try to install updates?

2 are you able to install some other updates?

    3. do you get an error message?

Method 1: Put the computer in a clean boot State before updates

Note: After installing the updates, follow step 7 in the link provided to return the computer to a Normal startupmode.

Method 2: Temporarily disable any security software.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. Whenever I try to open a zipped file, Vista winzip default (I did a test of it).  When I right click and choose open with, it shows only IE and Winzip as choice.  I know that Vista has it's own built in 'zipper', but I have no idea how to get the default value to the operating system for this function.

Vista 64 bit, on an Intel Quad

Right click and choose Extract all not open with. If you do not use uninstall Winzip's default Windows needs to be restored, otherwise post back for more information. If you uninstall Winzip and open with still shows Winzip I'll tell you how to remove it.

  • How to recover data from $recycle.bin of an operating system Vista failed?

Hi, my name is Andre.  My OS has failed, wouldn't boot and all options start Recovery (even with a Vista disk) have failed. I am able to connect the hard drive to another PC via the USB port and be able to see all the files and to recover. My last challenge is to get the files from the image to the trash. I tried to search for hidden and system files and extensions of all kinds, but unable to see. Suggestions, please? Thank you!

  • Windows Vista fails to update

All, but one or two of my updates failed to install in the last two weeks. The Start button still shows "ready to install updates. I press the Start button and it, and it starts the installation and the computer shuts down. After the restart and the same updates failed are offered again to install. The cycle I described repeats once again. I noticed when I turn on my computer to restart the computer "Windows Iinstaller" flashes on my screen several times as if it was unstable. It also flashes when I open windows mail. I don't remember what happens before. Is there something I can do to stabilizer Windows Installer?

  • backup of Windows Vista failed due to access denied 0x80070005

I'm try to use a WD Passport essential 320 drive (8 months) as support for my daughter Gateway laptop (about 4 years old; 2 GHZ RAM, 150GB hard drive, 100 GB of free, USB ports are 1.0 only, sigh!).    Instead of using WD Smartware, try to use the backup utility Windows Vista (Basic, 32-bit).    I followed instructions from WD on this exactly, but every time I try the backup, which takes more than half an hour in what appears to be a valid backup operation, the backup stops abruptly with an error message indicating that the backup failed.  Error message States only: 0x80070005 - access is denied.  As far as I can tell, I attributed to full sharing for the drive and the drive itself shows as a separate with no partitioning drive.   Technical support (level 1) WD told me that they think that the drive itself is correct, that the problem is with Windows and that they could not help me with Windows problems.   Themselves to level 2 has said pretty much the same thing but offered through the messages of support from MS, but neither he nor I saw patches associated with Vista, only the XP machines.  What is the benchmark for my Vista operating system?   Thank you!

I have the same problem.  I have a WD external hard drive, I had the habit of saving on all the time with no problems.  January 2011, I have not had a successful backup and rather get moved out of the backup mid-term with error 0x80070005 access denied.  Have you ever found a solution?  I tried to turn off UAC, security, firewall, backup in safe mode, but nothing works.

  • Windows Vista fails to boot after updates combined with Mcafee instalation.

The laptop is a 2007 medion mim2330 running 32 bit vista Basic.  He was protected by Bullguard, but it had expired and has been exceeded. A message appeared on the screen WARNING french that he had been infected by a virus - it does not look official and I am not sure that he clicked on the option to download solution - however the phone still worked. I had a Mcafee 3 user license and wanted to install it so I uninstalled bullguard and installed Mcafee process windows crashed and failed to WINDOWS START SCREEN appeared and I was unable to boot windown in any mode. I gave the phone to a knowledgeable friend who said it was a virus, but did not know that one - he said, it has been deleted, all hardware tests had been run and it was perfect. It has resized the partition of disk doing a great score including a remains a very small. He reloaded windows with avast antivirus and gave the laptop back to work. I wanted to use the Mcafee I had paid for, so I uninstalled avast and installed Mcafee. Everything went well and the laptop worked - however the mcafee warning sign came up saying scan in real time has been disabled - he turned back, but a few minutes it turned off again. I have contacted Mcafee used virtual tech then chatted in their eng who suspected a virus, a virus scanner from mcafee, rather than the laptop - it was very good. While the computer restarts windows laptop crashed and the WINDOWS FAILED to START SCREEN has appeared. I gave it back to my friend who reloaded windows and avast and widely used for a week. When we got it back avast had been removed and there was Windows Defender - didn't light alarm does not. We loaded on Mcafee and had plenty of updates (and hours) then tried windows live messenger telling to SP1 and SP2 are necessary. They were charged after an eternity using automatic updates of windows. After everything has been loaded on a final restart gave place WINDOWS failed to START screen and does not start in any mode. I thought it might be linked to the abduction of an antivirus and the installation of another, so I put in the original Windows restore disc in and formatted the large partition, then reloaded windows and all its drivers then went on updates auto and auto updates for 24 hours until what he said to date. Installed mcafee - no problem, then tried windows live essentials that required sp1 and SP2 - used auto updates to download SP1. When this is completed there were two messages from Mcafee saying restart the pc and the other problem Center and soln windows saying an upate problem was found to go online to find the solution, I checked windows update history and SP1 and all other updates were installed successfully, so I rebooted the laptop - at which point it crashed and WINDOWS has no PU START APPEARED to-it wont start in any mode. Suggestions as to the cause and or how to make the process of restoration in less time - much appreciated. We have a same laptop bought at the same time, running the same original software and Mcafee - never a single problem. Thank you very much

Usually, this means that Windows could not load the packages of metadata for some devices on your computer. If you do not already have it, you can run chkdsk/r (there is a space between thek and /) to verify the integrity of your hard drive. Follow the steps below:

    1. reboot your computer

    2. immediately press theF8 key until you reach the Advanced Boot Options menu

    3. Select Safe Mode with command prompt.

    4. at the command prompt, typechkdsk/r

  • Vista fails to start... Black screen!

    • Hello

I have Toshiba Satellite laptop which came with pre-installed windows Vista.

It has worked fine until today. Now when I try to start the power light comes on and I hear the HD work but there is no movement on the screen. Its black (just like it was when the laptop is turned off).

The F8 key did not help either!

Ive downloaded the restore disc but failed to get the system to boot from the CD because I don't know how to change the BIOS settings!

THX in advance for your help!

    Hello

/ Settings (BIOS/CMOS) often F2 so watch the screen that launch you - place the CD/DVD to the first
in the boot order to use the Windows disk to start - don't forget to pay back later.

You can access Mode safe? Repeatedly press F8 as you start? If yes you can try Control Panel - device
Manager - graphics card - Double click on - driver tab - click on UPDATE driver - then right click
on devices and UNINSTALL - REBOOT.

A method to try to get to the desktop (try in normal Windows Mode without failure) is CTRL +.
ALT + DELETE - Manager tasks and tab process EXPLORER.exe and COMPLETE the PROCESS on this subject - and then
on the Applications tab - lower right - new task - type in EXPLORER.exe. Safe mode is available by
repeatedly tapping F8 as you start. CTRL + SHIFT + ESC also begins the Task Manager.

First check this thread in case it is simple and if not to come back to this thread.

Black screen problems are extremely difficult to repair and all patch is usually on a base hit or miss.
That there is no information on a black screen as it is on a blue screen just adds to the
Difficulty. Often using a restore point or Startup Repair will have no effect. You can try a
Google to see the proposed repairs, whom some have worked however these cover a wide
    field efforts.

Here's a video of one of them.

You have a Vista disk? You can try restoring the system to it. If you don't have the disks your
system manufacturer will sell them at low prices. Or try in safe mode if you can get there.

You can create a recovery disc or use someone even version (making the system restore it)

If necessary and you can access all ordinary Windows.

You can try an In-Place Upgrade (hopefully save programs and data) or a repair installation
(if all goes well, the data records and need to reinstall programs). Be sure to do a good backup or three.

You can use another DVD that aren't copy protected but you you need to own

If nothing works, you can make a repair facility that must save the data but you will need to
Reinstall the programs. This also requires correct Vista disks especially for OEM versions. You will be

  • Vista fails to start on mv61xx.sys, error 0xc0000221

My system suddenly no longer starts. The good news is: I managed to fix it and put the solution below, so that anyone can benefit from. The bad news is that the Vista recovery has some (at least for me) unexplained oddities that I'd like to get an answer to. So, lets describe.

    Symptom:

-The PC stops in the process of starting with a critical failure. Fault that it displays "mv61xx.sys" says it also displays 0xc0000221 error code

-mv61xx.sys is related to a driver SATA/IDE of Marvel. The error code is related to a Windows driver cannot load, is not present or because it is corrupt.

    Solution:

-Reset CMOS on the motherboard (Asus P5Q) using the CMOS jumper, remove the CMOS battery and remove the power cord to reset.

    Remarks: (follow the questions below):

-Note that the solution is nowhere about the problem that Vista has reported. Vista has indicated that it cannot load a driver for some, because it is missing or damaged.

-Recovery of starting Windows (via the installation DVD) has not solved the problem.  It indicates the fault 0xc0000221 code (probably found it in a log file) and suggests using a previous system restore point to cure the problem. Has done this, but the problem had not gone away.

-Then, I decided to use the recovery console. The "sfc/scannow" command did not complete, it gave an error. I googled the problem and found that this error can be bypassed by giving sfc additional parameters: "sfc/SCANNOW damaged = C: \ /OFFWINDIR =" C:\WINDOWS "

-sfc reported no problem. So it's weird: boot Vista reports that a driver file is missing or damaged, but sfc has no problem

    - As an experiment, in the recovery console, I've renamed the driver mv61xx.sys (in C:\windows\system32\drivers) in mv61xx.bak. I restarted my PC. The behavior is different: this time the 0xc0000221 error does not appear, it just went to a black screen. Which makes me think that Vista was previously able to load the driver for mv61xx.sys, otherwise the error reported would be the same.

-Then I started from DVD, check if sfc was able to detect that I deleted the driver mv61xx.sys (renaming). I ran sfc and... sfc reported no problems, nothing has been repaired.

So my questions boil up to:

-Why Vista report a problem with a corrupted driver or missing mv61xx.sys while the symptoms above strongly suggest that the problem lies elsewhere

-Why the SFC command in recovery console does not repair the mv61xx.sys driver that I have renamed in mv61xx.bak.

    Thank you. Roland.

(for the answer to the problem, please see the first post in this thread)

    Hi Lorien,

first of all, thank you for your quick response. BTW, I was unable to boot from the HARD drive when 0xc0000221 error, I found myself stuck in the middle of the boot process, in a black screen with white characters. The only way I could try the recovery was starting from my Vista installation DVD.

I don't think that the cause of the problem was a missing or corrupted driver (which was what Windows has reported with error 0xc0000221). I think that I could solve the problem by resetting my CMOS. The problem is now completely gone, even on several boots.

Now with my PC to the top and runs again, I went into the device by your advice Manager. I see only one exclamation point in there that seems to be independent: an adapter (Microsoft ISATAP, probably a virtual network adapter) has a problem loading.  The node relevant in ("Marvell 61xx controller RAID') Device Manager, when you double click it, shows status"this device works properly.". The driver version is 1.2.0.57, it has been WHQL' ed.

I also studied the event viewer on your suggestion. I don't see any entry with this error 0xc0000221. Which is probably logical: because Windows cannot gain access to this driver, it has limited access to the disk (because the driver is associated with disk: it is a RAID controller), so Windows cannot save the error on the disc.

So, overall, with my post I have three objectives:

-Raise awareness of other users a possible fix if they encounter the same problem as me

-(optionally) to improve the quality of the SFC utility

-(possibly) improve feedback that Windows gives to the user at boot fails

-Improve my understanding of the recovery process

So, back to the SFC. You noted that SFC checks all system files, just a subset. But I expect that the system files that are considered "critical" for Windows are in this subset. However, with mv61xx.sys, this doesn't seem to be the case: Windows reported at the start that he couldn't continue the start because this file is critical for the system, but CFS seem to have another opinion. Could not check if mv61xx.sys is really not in the list of files that SFC analysis?

Secondly, is it possible that the mv61xx.sys pilot bails out with a 0xc0000221 error code, and Windows boot wrong is reported as a type of "load driver" of the problem, so that everything else goes wrong?

I looked into your profile and noticed that you do not work for Microsoft. So if you can not answer my questions, I can understand that, since there are rather thorough type of questions, so I guess that only someone from Microsoft can answer those. In this case, would you happen to have a suggestion for a person or a contact forum?

    Thank you

    Roland.
