  • photos of start-up cannot find system photo library

I saw this question in a number of other messages, but I don't see any solution.   When I boot my MacBook Pro and then try opening the pictures, I get the "pictures don't find the photo library of the system".   I am running 10.11.4 but this has happened to several levels of patch El Capitan.   Like other messages, my photo library is on an external hard drive.   The EHD are connected via eSATA.   But I can connect the hard drive via USB as well, and that does make a difference.

When I click on 'open other... '. "I get an empty list.

By clicking on "other library...". "and to my DHM, I can then find my library of Photos and select it.   From there until I restart again, I can close and reopen the Photos without problem.   My library is designated as the library of the system preferences.   I can see my iCloud files box, which also indicates it's photo library system because you can not activate iCloud, sharing photos otherwise.

I tried to add an alias to the folder of images on my internal drive pointing to the library on my DHM.   But that did not fix the problem.  In the past I would have thought that the alias will appear in the list, choose library.   I did a repair using command + Option keys at startup.   There was no difference after that.  I do not have a list of everything I tried, so I can't put one here.

    Try the following:

1 - Go to your Home/Library/container folder and move the file com.apple.Photos on the desktop.

    2 reboot

3 launch Photos with down option, and then select the library.

4 - Close and reopen the Photos to see if she remembers the location.

5 remove the folder from the desktop as it will be rebuilt as you continue to use the Photos.

  • Best practices for the creation of new library system

I want to create a photo library second, named Photo library - offline (for example) that is not synchronized with iCloud photo library.

Am I right in thinking that once I've created the new library and set it as the photo library of the system, it will be synchronized with ICPL and import all photos of ICPL new library?

Am also right in thinking that, once all the ICPL photos are synchronized with the new library, they will remain in the library named library Photos - Offline, even though I unchecked it as the SPL?

Or I have to export all the photos of ICPL to the HD on my Mac, and then import them manually to the new photo library?

Am I right in thinking that once I've created the new library and set it as the photo library of the system, it will be synchronized with ICPL and import all photos of ICPL new library?

Yes.  The new empty library will start to download photos from iCloud library after enable you it as a Photo library system in Photos > Preferences > general and like iCloud photo in the photo library > preferences > iCloud.

But wait, that all the photos of the old library were transferred to iCloud and the iCloud watch Preferences tab is no longer a progress bar.

Am also right in thinking that, once all the ICPL photos are synchronized with the new library, they will remain in the library named library Photos - Offline, even though I unchecked it as the SPL?

Yes, the switching between libraries will not remove photos from the library.

A few comments, just in case where; If you want to sync a library with iCloud is not on your system drive, make sure, that the ths disk is formatted as Mac OS extended (journaled =, or it cannot be used as a photo library iCloud.)  Do not download thumbnails of faces to iCloud photo library.  If your second copy on the external hard drive will not be showing any thumbnails of faces that you have assigned.

  • To move the library continues to be the library system hard disk

    Hello everyone,

I would like someone to help me with this question. I've migrated the pictures opening. My library as subject of 70,000 photos.

Everything went well. I imported the photos keeping referenced masters to na DHM (external hard drive). But, as I wanted to access all my library in the devices of ohters (Iphone and Ipad) that I bought the 1 TB Icloud.

I noticed that I had 2 thousand pictures consolidated and referenced 68,000.  Then only 2,000 photos are ok to download.

And there is the first question. It takes too long to download and photos do not appear on devices! Is this normal?

    Here's what I thought:

I move my library to an another DHM (os Journeling) and consolidate all the photos. Then I will download them all to the ICLOUD. And this way, I'll have all the pictures in all devices.

But my concern is the following.

    I tried this.

I copied the actual library to na DHM and deleted in the MBP and open PICTURES. I expected that PHOTOS recognized the library the library even only in a different location. BUT ISN'T. Photos 'think of it as a new library and not the photo of system library.

Is it possible to move the library and continuing to be photography libray system?

    Help me please.

    Thanks in advance

    Antunes Duarte (greetings from Portugal)

Is it possible to move the library and continuing to be photography libray system?

You can set the photo library of the system in Photos > Preferences.

Double click on the library on your external drive to open pictures. When the Photos is running, open the Photos > Preferences > General.

Click on the button 'Use as Photo Library system'.

If this button is gray, fine - the library is already the photo library of the system and you can activate iCloud photo library for her.

If you want to use the library with iCloud, the disk must be formatted correctly.  You can use a hard drive with iCloud photo library, if the file system is Mac OS extended (journaled).

  • El Capitan 10.11.2 updated and inaccessible photo library

I've seen questions similar to this one, but none quite match. Photos worked El Capitan. But after the update to El Capitan 10.11.2, I can't pictures to locate the library system, although it is still visible in my pictures folder. (I have several bookstores, how I manage with PowerPhotos). I use an iMac late 2009.

When I opened the Photos, I get this message:

Sometimes this message at the same time:

I can't choose ', open ' because I can't do this active window or get the buttons to act; I have to select "Exit" in the window "unexpected error".

I tried to press the Option key when opening the pictures; same result.

Also, I've used my photo library system for my desktop and screen saver. After update, the office always displays photos of the library. In the system, under the screen saver preferences, the 'Source' menu does not include Photos. I tried to select "Choose a folder", then selecting different libraries of Photos, but it does not work. In desktop preferences, there is a similar lack of power to choose to use a library of Photos, but he continued to use the one I had chosen before the update.

As I said, I still see libraries in [user name] / photos. This includes the system library I was using before the update (and which is apparently still used for office). They all have a normal appearance in Finder, including update, size, showing as a number of GB, etc.. In PowerPhotos, however, the library system shows as having zero points. Other libraries appear as normal in PowerPhotos, but PowerPhotos does not seem to have a function allowing you to switch which deals with pictures of libraries such as the library system. Trying to open a library other that the library system in Photos, either by PowerPhotos or from the Finder, generates the same error messages above. (The same with trying to open the library system from the Finder).

I don't know what version of El Capitan I was running before the upgrade. I always installed updates to OS x I use as soon as the alert informs you that one was available.

Start in Safe Mode, Mac OS x: Safe Mode bootand try from there.  If you succeed, reboot normally and try again.

Soon as your App Photos or iPhoto lost track of your photo library, or there has not been migrated from your old drive. You can create an empty library and probably enable iCloud photo library for photos to upload to the cloud.

I've migrated my library of photos on an external drive to free up space.  I run pictures while pressing the option key.  Photos don't 'sees' the library on the external hard drive in order to "Choose library" is grayed out.  I select "Library" and it points to the photo library that has been copied to the external drive.  It opens and I see all my photos.  I then go to preferences and select "use as a library system.  Which turns gray.   I then released photos.  When I have photos of tenant he still does not recognize that I have chosen an external library such as my library system, and I have to repeat the whole process again to nothing does not.    My external drives are Seagate 4 TB comes pre-formatted under OS X log (Extended).  The photo album has been updated from iPhoto and now I also copy the album iPhoto on the same external drive in the case which has data that allows pictures to designate my photo album of external drive as my photo album of system.  However, I'd rather remove it because it takes up to 500 GB of hard disk space too.   I searched on the internet and other forums without success - seems to work just for everyone.  Help, please!

This is the format that you see when you download info on the disc?

  • Duplicate photos are automatically set to the library of iCloud?

I changed system library. After that I named the new library as the library system and reactivated iCloud, Photos began to download all my photos to the photo library (yet) to iCloud.

Do not exceed the storage limit for my iCloud plan, essentially the new library system is a duplicate of the previous, but he is now on a different drive.

By train to group photos in my photo library, newly designated system with those of the iCloud existing photo library, will be automatically solved duplicates? Or I have to manually delete the duplicates in some way?

Photos is to merge the new library system in your library to iCloud.

Once the pictures are downloaded, they are compared to iCloud.

Open the Console.app (in Applications > utilities). The Console will show you, done what iCloud.

You can type 'photomodel' in the search field of Console. Then I see the process that makes the double check:

  • System not on the iCloud photo library?

Can I can put a photo library independent of the system on the disk to iCloud and therefore have access to it from multiple macs?

If you put a photo library on iCloud drive and access it from another Mac synchronization between devices may corrupt the library. I've tested this with a few small test libraries, and none of them survived to synchronization, once I opened new during on iCloud drive.

I would not risk with important photos.

  • Full Mac, trying to move the library to SET of photos, but there are corrupted files, cannot locate these files and am stuck!

Mac Tips Please! I bought an EHR to move my entire photo library like 7yr old MacBook is full to the brim and I need to backup my phone as his shattered and needs sending out of fixing!

Now, it won't save my picture library on DHM (to remove Mac) as some pic (s?) (among the 35000) are corrupt (but I have no idea of who or how many). I tried to restore the library several times, but then it freezes and says it cannot open the library, it can in fact - but not when restoring it.

I have now to turn my new SMT in another time machine and saved everything on there. Should I try and remove my library on Mac and then restore from time machine? What this will do to my corrupted files? And it is likely to be able to register then EHD?

    Photo, not iPhoto uses...

    Adevice greatly appreciated!

What size is the drive?  For Photos, it may be only Mac OS extended (journaled)

and you can't have photo library on the same amount of time Machine backup

You can probably clone the library for the EHD with SuperDuper or CarbonCopyCloner or other clone software

  • Apple TV, you see only not my new photo library

I have Apple TV and 2 Macs that use home sharing to display pictures of selected iPhoto library.  It has worked well for years, through several generations of ATV (including this, the latest).  Today, on a Mac, I've converted a library of photos from iPhoto in Photos.  In fact, I have 2 libraries - one of which is a 'starter' library created last week, put up with all my keywords and the structures of startup (to clone for new photo projects) records - he has 11 photos.  The second Photo library (which is the most recently accessed Library / edition) has 900 + photos, created today.

I am running the latest version of iTunes, under El captain.

When I get home sharing in iTunes...

.. .to select photos to share, the default value presented is for 'Photos' (Yes, I don't know iPhoto its more long!) - BUT it's the 11-photo 'starter' library, like this:

When I use the drop down menu to choose a different folder (the library populated), I choose the file, but it shows 0 photos, like this:

What should I do to get the iTunes to recognize my populated library?  (I quit and restarted iTunes - I also stop and restart the Mac.)

I'm tempted to remove the Starter 11-photo Library, so that there is only a single library on the Mac... but I hate the idea that is the solution for iTunes and the Photos app talk to each other.  With iPhotos, I had literally dozens of libraries and constantly under tension between them.  I wouldn't think that the ability is lost with Photos.

    Thank you!

Ah, ha - think I found the answer.  In the preferences of Photos, there is a "button to specify a particular library as the library of the"System. "  My Library recently populated did not have this set:

I set its State to "on":

and iTunes now sees this library instead of the ' starter when sharing with "Photos".

The option "Chose the folder" doesn't seem to do anything useful, so it seems that it is the new way to do this when the Photos app is used for photos of the ATV.

  • Create a subset of iCloud photo library photos...

I use iCloud photo library, which is OK but heavy.

Is there a way to define a subset of pictures of this library to have on my iPhone instead of having everything on my iPhone?

    Several issues from my point of view;

-I don't want to go through all my photos on my iPhone, I can easily select about 30% of all my photos I want available

-Currently, photos on my iPhone consumes much too 11 GB of memory.

-I know that I can create a new library system with a limited number of pictures, but find to manage several libraries a real pain

    Any suggestions are welcome

ICloud photo library usage is purely optional. To reduce the amount of storage space used on your iPhone, set Photos to use an optimized local library.

If you choose to not to turn on iCPL, use iTunes to select and synchronize you want to keep on the iPhone. Excited about my photo stream automatically copy new images from iPhone to your computer.

  • How migrations (El Capitan) not come to the photo library?

    Hello

I want to use the Migration Wizard to move my user account for my MacMini BUT put the photo library on a separate hard disk from the system drive.

My MacMini has two internal drives, the library is huge.

The MacBook (early 2008 - running Snow Leopard) old a MacMini (late 2009 - El Capitan cool running).

How migrations (El Capitan) not come to the photo library? It seems to only be set for the entire account.

If I do this, put the library on a separate disk. How to use Time Machine to back up the library?

The separate HARD disk transfer photo library, and then delete the disk that you are migrating.

Time Machine backup disks all connected, unless you put them in the list of exclusions.
