Setting up Microsoft Cluster

Hi all

I followed this guide: http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-50-mscs-guide.pdf

for the clutser installation program. My first RDM (virtual), SCSI 1:0 added Quorum disk. When I add the same drive my second node, I get this error message when turning on/off.

"An unexpected error has been received of the ESX host turning on VM vm-329.
Reason: Cannot lock the file.
Cannot open disk ' / vmfs/volumes/4fa9769c-f8aaa808-ee31-00221924bc69/db07/db07_10.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.

Any ideas?

Do not mix the mode of physical and virtual compatibility for the RDM with 'Sharing of Bus SCSI' for the controller. In the case of a single host, the "shared SCSI Bus" for the controller (not disks) must be virtual.

  • Microsoft Cluster in vSphere using RDM disks

Gentlemen, I have doubts that sounds simple, but it is better to ask than to the hurt things.

Here, in the company where I started work two weeks ago. We have two servers of files Windows Server 2012, both are part of Microsoft Cluster Services, these two servers are virtualized on VMware ESXi 5.5, each on a host, here we use vCenter HA and DRS.

Well, these file servers 03 RDM disks connected to the fibre channel, storage only disks are online only on node 1, node 2 drives are present in the computer Manager, but marked offline.

To my knowledge, my experience of simple Microsoft cluster, the disks must be online on all nodes for disaster recovery is quick, for example through cluster in Windows Server 2008 R2 and Hyper-V Server R2 of 2012 using iSCSI storage and always leave the disks online on all nodes.

My question is: is there a reason why a node drives remain online and the other node is taken offline? Because of RDM technology?

I can then do disks on node 2 as well as online without risk?

I'm an environment that left another analyst configured, had never made Windows Server 2012 in virtualized VMware vSphere servers cluster using RDM disks, so made the questions, so instead of simply in clicking on node 2 of disks and makes them online it is better to ask before

    Thank you!

Ivanildo, is the normal Windows Server Failover Clustering behavior, since it is an active/passive cluster architecture, where a single node read/write a disk at a time, and is not a problem due to the use of RDMS in vSphere environment.

The bellow image show two discs a WSFC, where 6 disk Offline on that particular node and the 7 disc is online:

And, do TRY not to put the disks as offline being online on another node through disk management, this task must be performed by using the Failover Cluster Management console.

  • MSCS - NLB Microsoft cluster

    Hello

We have 4 cluster NLB nodes on Production site and we expect protect it with MRS. 5.1.1.

SRM 5.1.1 supports 2-node Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS).  vSphere 5.1.x supports up to 5-node MSCS. SRM 5.1.x supports 2-node MSCS.

Is it possible to have 4 NLB nodes in production and to protect only two nodes with MRS? as we just need two nodes for DR.

Not sure, but I think you mix two features here, MSCS, and NETWORK load balancing. The restrictions apply to MSCS, but not NETWORK load balancing (unless I'm missing something).

There is something wrong with Cisco that makes them change the name of the menus.

  • P2V microsoft cluster (file) with shared PV220s (SCSi) storage

    Hi guys

I'm quite new in the VMWARE world. So please forgive my ignorance. If it's my third message in the last 2 days.

Scenario: basically, we have a MS cluster running on two windows (our file server) server that is attached to the DELL PV220s matrix raid (scsi) with 11 drive running raid 5 config... Now it of almost complete @ 1 TB and also will be out of warranty soon.

We want to virtualize these two servers (essentially the cluster), and then move all the data to the DELL EQUAlLOgic SAN we have on our site as well.

Now, I've read that MS Clusters are supported in Update1 of VMware 3.5.

So, how is it less setting this up. What I've read so this option seems like the next three - provide details of them my knowledge in VMware/SAN is very limited at present, but in the hope of picking up very soon.

1 P2V cluster as it is

2 break the cluster, then P2v each.

    3. create a new node 3 in VMware. (how we should go on the PV220s San data movement) - we should create a new volume-LUN of the SAN?

I read that the signatures of discs cause problems etc..

Please discuss your experiences and your thoughts on P2V ING a MS cluster.

I'll be very be very thankful to you guys if you can answer because it will speed up our project.

    Hello

Moved to the forum of the Virtual Machine and the guest operating system.

Read http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_35/esx_3/vi3_35_25_u1_mscs.pdf very very carefully before you P2V a cluster, there are things you need to do to create the virtual hardware correctly. If it were me, I would not use P2V but fresh start installs correctly configured virtual hardware.

  • Break a Microsoft cluster and attends independent P2V in a VMware environment

I searched and searched for the best possible, answering this question and can not find specific answers!

I have a file server Windows Server 2003 in a 2 node cluster (active/passive) with resources on a San, and what I want to do is:

1 remove the cluster and have all the resources on a single machine.

    2. rename the machine with the resources on the virtual server name (cluster name)

3 do a P2V to the file server in my cluster vmware environment

I have no problem with the steps 2 and 3, but remove the cluster and will strictly autonomous is my Goliath. What I have read, I need to move all resources to one node, then stop the cluster service on the other node, then delete the node. From there I don't know what to do. Help, please! I want to achieve in the coming weeks.

    Check this Microsoft kb article.

Another option could be to create a new file server in a virtual machine and then attach the storage where the actions as a RDM.

    Options are always good.

    Good luck!

  • How to set a universal cluster

I develop a family of screws that have the same cluster as an input (by "same" I mean, same number of elements, each element has the same data type and name).  Each VI takes the cluster, manipulates an element in a certain way and then exports the cluster.  In the future, say I decide I want to add to the cluster, or change the data type of the element.  As it is, I have to change the cluster in each of my screws to reflect this change.

Is there a way I can define a cluster somewhere (let's call it the cluster of God, other groups are formed in his image) and point to him in all my other screws? While I can change just the bunch of God, automatically updating clusters in the other screw.

Customize the cluster control and save it as a Type Def or Strict Type def.

In this way all instances use the same type of control, and you change the type of cluster by modifying the registered Type Def cluster control.

  • Is it necessary to buy two packs of licenses to set up a cluster active / standby HA with two units of TZ300?

I need a cluster active / standby and I think I will need to buy two devices and only CGSS. Am I wrong?
Why there is no TZ300 HA Unit regarding the unity of TZ500 HA and TZ600 HA unit?

    Thank you

    Angelo

Yes, you are going to have to buy two devices and licenses only to your main unit. The only reason why there are TZ500 and 600 HA units because generally these are units that especially customer implement an HA pair because of the power they have.

A TZ300 and 400 are wanted over a smaller model of business that usually gives rise to not have an HA pair so their isn't a specific unit of HA.

These HA units are not different from any other unit, they are simply locked as part of a wise pair HA license.

  • Initiators of software iSCSI Microsoft Cluster in guest

    Hi guys

I have a client who have iSCSI Storage... now they want to create a cluster, but I read that only FC SAN is supported for RDM...

but it seems that iscsi is supported as iscsi in guest...

If someone knows the configuration for this?

or is it as simple as:

    1. create iscsi volume of Quorum

    2. create iscsi for data volumes

3 activate the iscsi initiator in Windows 2008 guest VM

4 map these to W2008 VM iscsi volume

    5. create an another PortGroup-VLAN for the private heartbeat (is it necessary or the private sector can take thje same segment as the notrmal network)?

    Thank you very much

Oh, sorry I didn't answer your original question.

You are right, you must configure the virtual computer with 3 vNIC on 3 different subnets, then make sure that the public network is on top, when configuring the network order in the BONE (don't know where it was in 2008 for Windows, in Windows 2003 is configurable in the advanced network settings) Guest.
