Several folders "Program Files" in the Explorer - Vista

Why is there more than one 'Program Files' showing in Windows Explorer in Vista? I Programs (86) and (X 86) (X 86) programs they are not duplicates, I suspect that is why some of my programs are not displayed in the Menu all programs

  • Vista folder Program Files and the folder Program Files (86)

What is the significance of the differences, if any, between the Program Files folder and the folder C:\Program Files (86)?  When you install the software, is it better to let the software decide what Program Files folder to use?

    Hello Pit Bull Junkyard,

Thank you for using the Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.

The Program Files (x 86) folder is the default folder for 32-bit programs, Program Files is the default folder for 64-bit programs.  I suggest you leave all programs you install go to the default to avoid any problems.

Both of these files have very strict default permissions that are difficult to ignore, unless you want to create a new folder, and then save it there.

Hope this helps, please let us know status.  Thank you!

The order in which it appears is the order of your choice. To change the order,
Click the heading of the column that you want to sort. Click one

  • How to pin folders and files to the taskbar?

I have a few updates from XP to Windows 7.  How to pin folders and files to the taskbar?  I got a lot of these in my XP Quick Launch bar.

    Mike

PIN Windows Explorer in the taskbar and you can right click to get your recently viewed files.

You can also add toolbars to the taskbar.
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-GB/Windows7/add-a-toolbar-to-the-taskbar

A toolbar can be any folder in Windows Explorer. So you can put any selection of files to a user created folder and access these files quickly thanks to a simple icon in your taskbar.

However, don't go overboard you can quickly run out of space on the taskbar. My toolbars are interspersed between the program pinned to the taskbar, tasks and links with the Noification area to the right. The section of the program will go to a second line below according to the needs and so you can limit the space allocated to programs if you wish.

  • Convert several Word files from the Explorer windows for PDFs with bookmarks

    Hello

I used to be able to select several Word documents in Windows Explorer and convert them into multiple individual PDFs with bookmarks (using XP, Office 2007, Acrobat 8 Standard). Lately, my computer has been upgraded to Windows 7 with Office 2010 and Acrobat X Standard. The selection of multiple files function exist; However, I encounter following issues:

    Thank you

    c3000ca

    1. the converted files without all the bookmarks.
    2. save the file screen pop up twice. First asked me to save to where it begins to convert, after PDF conversion screen has finished, it will ask me again to save the file in the root directory, i.e. when the files are really saving.
    3. for each open Doc file, Word 2010 pop up a message will indicate that the normal template file has been changed and ask me if I want to store the update.

I tried searching everywhere on the web and seems we do not encounter the problem. Did someone encouerting similar problem?  Is there a way to solve the problem?

Finally, I reinstalled Office 2010 and Acrobat X Standard.  Everything went very well.  No found bugs.  It must be a problem during the installation of the program. Detective Conan.

  • Bug? Print several files from the Explorer of Windows 7.

When I try to print multiple files of a directory displayed in the Explorer of Windows 7, the print command of the context menu is available ONLY when the selected for printing files are ALL visible on the screen. For example, if I select 5 contiguous files in the list view, and they are all visible on the screen, then I can print all 5 files from the print command from the context menu. But if I select 30 contiguous files in the list, and only 25 of these files are visible on the screen, then the print command disappears in the context menu. Is this a bug in Windows 7?

Other reports in the forums, there seems to be a limit of 15 files, but I didn't know he documented by Microsoft.  I don't think it's important that all files are visible on the screen.

  • Why not remove the program files for the programs that I have removed from my computer?

I deleted the AVG Internet Security on my computer. Under my program files, there is still a case for moy. My computer won't let me remove it. It says "cannot delete avgcgfx.dll: access is denied, check that the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use." It is not used because I deleted it. This is not the first time that I could not delete a folder. What is the solution and why is it?

  • How to remove a folder from program files in the C drive?

I tried to remove CA my computer for several days. I just discovered how to manually remove programs. However, will not remove the file CA in my program files. I give permission, and then he said please try again. I don't use this program because of the large amount of questions and he won't let me download an anti-virus up-to-date program. Help, please.

You must uninstall the programs start / Control Panel / programs and features - and then select the program you want to remove, right-click on it and click on uninstall or delete - otherwise the pieces of the program stay in various places throughout the operating system and in the register - it cause you problems later and taking space without good reason.

If you really want to remove this folder to appropriate it.

To resolve this problem with the record of CA, appropriating the folder (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for the folders and files that can change permissions.  You can change now switched to read-only (even if the main folder indicates that they are always read-only - you can access yourself as the owner).  You can now delete the files and folders.  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html... If ownership doesn't work, someone has placed a deny access to all user somewhere safe - you have to find that entry and delete it and then you will be able to delete the files and folders.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

  • I have a laptop running XP pro with office 2003. All of a sudden all the folders and files in the folders have read only attribute applied.

This make all folders on the computer and all the files stored inside. The individual files are not performed. If I remove read-only folders and files and click OK, reopen the file and the attribute has been applied.
Any solution to this problem s.

    Dave

It's not a problem... it is a feature.

At a time in the past, Windows has decided that the read-only attribute means nothing, because it applies to files, so Microsoft 'solved' this bit to indicate to whom the file has been customized.  There are other methods available if you really don't want to do a write-protected file.  The details are explained in the following Microsoft KB article.  I recommend reading the article in full to understand what Microsoft did...

"You can not view or change the read-only or the attributes of system files in Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7"

  • I want to view the properties of folders of files and the size of the files used on the right by clicking on them and the properties of the workstation to see the disk space used. __

I have trouble finding the disk space used by files and folders individually and when I try to know how much is consumed and free by right click on my computer.  This was easy in XP, but I can't get the answers I need to analyze which uses space, where and how.  What is happening with this?

    Hi NativeLegal Eagle,

Usually, right-click on the file or folder and clicking the properties option will give the details of the file or folder. The details include, type, size, location, size of the file on the disc etc.

Make a right click on my computer will not give the details of available disk space on the computer.

If you want to know the amount of space consumed by a program, then it can be found in the Add/Remove Programs window.
    a. Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click ok.
    b. in the list, we can find the total space used by individual program running on the computer.

Note: If nothing is listed in the file properties window or a file, then provide us with more information, so that we can better help you.

  • Can't unzip the files using the Windows Vista option extract all

I tried to unzip the files, I have downloaded from the Web site by using the context menu "extract all... "on the file.  I have a Board error saying that the compressed (zipped) folder is empty.  If I try a double click on the file, I get the message that the zip file is not valid.  This has happened to every zip file I tried to unpack so far.  The only files I can unpack so far are those I zipped myself using the context menu "send to folder of Compssed of-->" of Windows Vista.  Any suggestions?

    Hi Eddie Hersh,.

Thanks for choosing the Windows Vista Forum.

1 how long have you had this problem?

    2. If it works well before?

Make sure that the download of the file is not corrupted.

You can perform the steps in the link below and check if it works.

Restore and return the file Association in Windows Vista if Original

    1. click on start, and then type regedit in start search and press ENTER.

    2. navigate to the following registry branch:

    NtVersion ntVersion\Explorer\FileExts\ [ext]

Replace the [exe] with the real extension of the file you want to restore the file type association to return to the default Windows Vista original. If you unsure, simply browse through all the Sub-touche under FileExts.

    3. delete the subkey named UserChoice.

    4. exit the registry editor.

  • Dreamweaver ignorant CS6 not hidden folders and files on the sync, why?

I have a site with the file "crmcwed" with subfolders img1 and img2 img3.  On the site of the remote server, the corresponding folders (img1 and img2, img3) are filled with hundreds of files JPG photo.  I chose to not have the same files in the corresponding img1 and img2, img3 files in local files.  I've marked these 3 files hidden in the remote and local files.  The parent folder "crmcwed" is not hidden locally or remotely.  However, when I ask to sync 'together... Site"," put newer remote files to ' and check "Delete files remotely not on the local drive", the result is that synchronize wants to remove virtually all the photo files in remote img1 and img2, img3 files because they aren't in the local files.  The cloaking seems to be quite ineffective.  I tried to remove and reapply the cloaking and have rebuilt the cache several times.  (If I do not check "Delete files remotely not on the local disk", synchronize reports that the site is fully synchronized).

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you

    EGibbon

Thank you Nancy.  It's a pretty daunting position, while I respect your experience.  I used formerly synchronization with cloaking successfully.  However, I'm trying to get my site hosted on a different server to speed.  It is now hosted on a GoDaddy shared hosting Linux Server (previously I had a Windows Server), and for the first time in my experience, it has an SSL certificate installed for the domain.

With my new site, I had set Dreamweaver to download using SFTP and Port 22.  With this setting, downloads work fine, but I get the faulty synchronization that I have reported.  I just discovered, however, that if I change to ordinary (non-secure) FTP, using Port 21 and specify servers > basic > more Options > use the FTP mode passive = verified, that synchronization is working properly and concealment is now effective!  (The passive FTP mode if it isn't an option for SFTP). Don't know what to conclude except that there seems to be many gears that have to mesh together to get this all working, and DW interacting with my Linux on GoDaddy website doesn't seem to be a happy marriage.  But who is to blame?  I have no idea.  I don't see why you don't want to use synchronization.

Thanks anyway, well my comment offers you the "solution", I searched for, it is a workaround undesirable to lose download secure SFTP.

  • I moved the LR5 files by dragging them to a new location. Why the LR5 keep folders and files on the source drive internal Mac?

my 1 TB drive iMac is full.  I bought a LaCie 3 TB external and moved from 2012 to 2014 to the new drive records.  I did carefully by renaming in year-mo-date__topic in the records of LR.   Then, I used LR5 to drag files in front of the Mac the LaCie external HD.   Successfully, everything installs and turns and usable LR5 since the 3 TB LaCie drive.  The Mac HD is no longer displayed in LR.  In Solution Explorer, I still have folders 2012, 2013 and 2014, but it is still consuming most of my internal drive.

Why LR5 did move all files instead of what seems to be the copy?

Hello, on a Mac, it's Finder rather than explore...

On a Mac, there is no movement when the transfer between discs only copies. It is a large safety factor so that accidents can be overcome for example a power failure during the transfer.

All you need to do (after saving two disks) is to move files on your internal drive to the trash and empty it then. That will free up the space.
