several virtual centres, centralized database?

Hi all

I try to extend our current infrastructure and would like to know if you know of any documentation concerning several deployments of virtual center. I think that when installing vcenter he ask if this EGG will be part of an existing VC. My question is simple how it is?, and how the database will be configured?, do I need to deploy a database in the new virtual server Center or it will get all the data to the remote site?

i.e. I have a server VC in Houston and want to have another VC server in London, but using the same data from houston, but I just want to be able to log on to a local server of vc in London.

Thanks for any info.

Looks like you want to vCenter Linked Mode, where you can connect to an instance of vCenter and others. Databases are my distinct knowledge and local preference in each instance for performance reasons, only the vCenter service are interconnected.

There is a section on the modes in the Manual: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_40_admin_guide.pdf

There are also some best practical information here: http://viops.vmware.com/home/docs/DOC-1521

I hope that helps!

    Scott,

Servers dashboards - management - Goto - data management server, expand model VMware - virtual centres.

Then you will see all your vCenters and also when the data was last updated, when you have determined that you you want to get rid of the button Delete (red circle with less in it).

  • GAL/LACP with several VIRTUAL LANs

    Hello

I have two switches SG-200-50. I created three VLANS on one and define the place of the other - there is no requirement for routing between VIRTUAL LANs. However, I want to trunk between local networks VIRTUAL using with LACP LAG. For example, A button 1-22 ports VLAN 1 and then 23-24 is the junction for this. 25-34 is VLAN2 and trunking is 35-36. VLAN 3 is 37-48 and 49-50 trunking. I seemed to be able to get 1 VLAN, the default, trunking but no VLAN 2.

    I have a few questions:

    1. the SG-200 will allow you to the trunk several VIRTUAL LANs for another switch?

    2. If so - how? I've lived the documentation and it does not mention explicitly "multiple" VLAN with DELAY.

3 circuits is possible by a LAG (say 6 ports) happening all the VLANS on the switch?

So the main question is that I want to achieve is possible on this switch. The reason why I'm doing it is of course of redundancy. Carrying one VLAN on both switches is preferable. I just need trunk correctly between them.

See you soon! Any thoughts appreciated.

    Scott

    Hi Scott,.

You had questions, which I copied in red. :

    1. the SG-200 will allow you to the trunk several VIRTUAL LANs for another switch?  Absolutely

    2. If so - how? I've lived the documentation and it does not mention explicitly "multiple" VLAN with DELAY.

I have attached the Administrator's guide.  The OFFSET rules are defined at the bottom of page 82 of the attached document.

The 200 series supports four lags, or in other words four groups aggregagted of links.

3 circuits is possible by a LAG (say 6 ports) happening all the VLANS on the switch?  Yes as indicates it page 83 administrator guide.

Assign up to eight ports active members to the static LAG.

So the main question is that I want to achieve is possible on this switch. The reason why I'm doing it is of course of redundancy. Carrying one VLAN on both switches is preferable. I just need trunk correctly between them.

Personally, I prefer to the trunk on gal differently, especially when you are trying only to achieve redundancy and higher aggregate bandwidth between switches.  It is also relevant to the 300 series as the product of the 300 series is just a richer product.

You want; "I want to trunk between local networks VIRTUAL using with LACP LAG. For example, A button 1-22 ports VLAN 1 and then 23-24 is the junction for this. 25-34 is VLAN2 and trunking is 35-36. VLAN 3 is 37-48 and 49-50 trunking. It seemed to me be able to obtain VLAN 1, the default value, trunking but no VLAN 2. »

What about using the ports numbers higher for the uplink between switches, I have no particular reason to use these ports except that they are on the right side of the switch.

    A B switch

    ports ports

    VLAN 1 1-24, 47-48 1-24, 47-48

    VLAN2 25-34, 25-34

    vlan3 35-46 35-46

    LAG ports 49-50 49-50

The advantage of this is that now you have two ports of the traffic load balancing between switches of series two 200.  I could have more if I want, but I want to keep my simple example.

Create a static OFFSET, by the sound of it you did already.

I just used my 300 series switch (SF300 - 48P) as a demo, as I don't have a series 200 switch.  Configuration should be roughly about the same.  In my case, I have four ports GiG GE1 to GE4.  I will use GE1 and GE2 as my two members of a group LAG 1.  May sound a bit confusing, but follow below.

    Added two ports for the DELAY, note in the example below GE1 and GE2 are not connected to another switch, so they showup as ports of Eve;

Also my 300 series switch supports eight groups of LAG, so captures the numbers 1 to 8 as shown in the following screen.

Now that my LAG is created, you'll notice in the screenshot below that VLAN1 is added automatically to the LAG 1 as unmarked frames.

Note: circled point, I selected LAG in this menu drop-down and then click Go.

Note: 1 in the Red rectangular box represents GAL Group 1, which consists of GE1 and GE2

Now, I add 2 VLAN group LAG 1 by selecting 2 VLAN selected then LAG and then click go, the following screen came.

I clicked on the button marked radio in the rectangle above, to allow VLAN 2 send labeled on group GAL 1 ethernet frames.

And so on for the other VLANS I migth.

My methodology or train of thought, was to allow of vlan1 to just send frames unmarked on the Group LAG 1, but any other VLAN later is marked on the Group 1 GAL.

You should be able to do exactly the same thing on the other switch 200 series.

in my example, as I then simply take some CAT6 or CAT5e cables and connect GE1 on a 200 series switch to other Ge1 200 series

    I connect then GE2 on a 200 series switch to other Ge2 200 series.

Now I have the aggregation of links and balancing working between switches.

    Hope this helps

    Best regards, Dave

  • Synchronization of several diagrams on two databases using goldengate

I want to assure you that only two installations of goldengate in servers (one for each) is sufficient to synchronize several patterns on both databases. If it is possible, where and how can I store files of track? Are there any other special advice for the steps?

    Hi PrazSam,

Yes. Only two cases of Oracle GoldenGate, I mean to each server (source

and target) a single instance of GG is more than enough for replication or

synchronization of multiple schemas. Trail of files is stored in the hard disk

drive under the directory dirdat that goes into the OGG_HOME.

You can use a single process extracts, pump and replicate to configure

replication of multiple schemas. Else an excerpt dedicated or separate, pump

and replicat process for each schema. But the path of the file name for each

process should be different. Many cannot write extraction process in the

    files even trail.

  • Several primary and physical databases Configuration ensures in Data Guard Broker

    Hello

Is it possible to add two or several primary and physical databases configuration ensures in data guard broker?

I have 1 primary databases and two databases physical standby that is

    (1) primary that is pri - (database primary)

    (2) secondary i, e, s (physical pending)

    (3) Secondary2 i.e. sec2 (physical pending)

Practical AM sinister place, my scenario is my pri and dry machines are in seat, if the pri crashed it switch to s that works very well and my S2 is in another area office. Suppose that if my two siege machines pri and sec crashed, so I want to do my mahcine sec2 as primary.

I have two separate computers to the broker a headquarters and a District Office

Use failure of quick start on Data Guard Broker, broker headquarters machine I have configured pri and dry but in sector office broker not able congifured pri and S2 and the machine.

can be done several primary database configuration with data bases on hold?

Has anyone done this before, or has a perform a recovery after loss of place...

    need help or suggestion

    thanx

No.... It is not possible. When you use the DG broker, the first thing you can do in the DGMGRL utility is to deliver CONFIGURATION to CREATE. You can see on the doc of this command that you define here the PRIMARY DATABASE.

The command to add a DATABASE to the broker, adds a new database pending. You cannot add an another primary.

The broker configuration is explicitly for a primary and all standby databases is supported. If you have an another primary, you create a separate DG broker configuration.

    See you soon,.

  • Several virtual machines attached to port VM group

    Hi all

So I did research on the internet and on this forum and I have not found a good answer to my question. So I would check that I can create a unique Virtual Machine port group and attach multiple virtual machines and run them simultaneously. I basically want to have each VM attached to this switch, but instead to a separate port group, it seems that I can just attach to the same port group that puts on the vSwitch.

Is there problems of L2 with MAC address or ARPing or something like that? I realize that I have to ensure that each VM has correctly configured the IP settings. I know there are problems, but I am wanting clarification of the people who have done this before. Are there problems of interface as with a real switch speed or who is not serious in a vSwitch?

    Thank you!

    -GNS

You can attach multiple virtual machines to the same group of port without problems, this is how normally environment are created. Have a look here for more details: vSphere Standard switches

  • Try to copy one virtual centre to the other clusters

    Hello

I'm new in the world of windows and have to migrate a virtual centre 5.1 older than 5.5.  I'm running into a problem with the copy of the clusters of the virtual center more a new using powercli and hoped someone on this list can help you.  Here's what I'm trying to do:

(please let me know if there is a way better to clone the cluster information to one virtual centre to another)

    --

    $SourceClusters = get-Datacenter RWC - vc01 Server | Get-Cluster-Server vc01

    {foreach ($SourceCluster to $SourceClusters)

    New-Cluster - name $SourceCluster.Name - location "RWC" - Server vc02 - DRSEnabled - DRSautomationlevel "PartiallyAutomated" - confirm: $false

    }

    --

However when I run the present I get the following error messages:

    (a) not found VIContainer with name RWC - which I know exists and is my Datacenter name

    (b) setting New-Cluster VIContainer: did not find any object specified by its name.  I know that the first command get-data center returns valid cluster name so don't know why it shows as empty.

    All that I'm missing here.

  • Workstation - Bat file to run several Virtual Machines

I am currently using the following .bat file to launch several virtual machines:

    Start "" /b "C:\Users\Abe\Desktop\Virtual machine 1.lnk".

    Start "" /b "C:\Users\Abe\Desktop\Virtual machine 2.lnk".

My problem is that start each machine's own instance of VMware.  Is it possible to build a script (.bat or other) who will start the virtual machines in a single instance of VMware Workstation.

    Regards and thanks in advance

    k

You can create a file of commands like this:

    vmrun start "C:\VM\VM1.vmx".

    vmrun start "C:\VM\VM21.vmx".

This would open up two virtual machines in the same GUI - at least that's the way it works on my Windows 7 host with 9 Workstation.

  • A large flat Virtual pass vs several virtual switches

    experts,

What is the advantage of having a large flat Virtual pass Vs several virtual switches for all types of traffic of the virtual machine (management, Vmotion, Vm Network). Any improvement in performance.

What is the advantage to have the virtual machine and networking on two different VLANS.  improved performance or security?

Our current configuration has a virtual switch with all eight physical NICS are assigned.

    Vswitch 0 <-vmnic0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

    |

Management network (Vlan 100) <-Vmnic0 (active), Vmnic7 (at rest)

    |

VMotion (Vlan 150) <-Vmnic7 (active), Vmnic 0 (standby)

    |

    The virtual machine network (vlan 100) <-Vmnic1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 (all active)

We will be setting up a new environment Vmware (5.0) and I would like to configure two virtual switches as follows

Vswitch 0 <-assigning two physical network adapters (Vmnic 0, Vmnic 7)

    |

Management network (Vlan 100) <-Vmnic0 (active), Vmnic7 (standby)

    |

    VMotion (Vlan 150) <-Vmnic7 (active), Vmnic0 (standby)

And allowing that Vlan 100 and 150 Vmnic0 and Vmnic7 traffic

    Vswitch 1 <-assignment remaining interface cards physical network (Vmnic1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)

    |

    Computer virtual network (vlan 101) <-Vmnic1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 (all active)

Allow only the Vlan traffic 101 on above NIC

I am thinking propose above configuration.  If I go with above setup, I get an improvement in performance? or other benefits. Please explain?

I don't think that there should be no difference in performance in the two installation options that you have. The only advantage to create two vSwitches would be to simplify the configuration, less risk of errors if Setup lots of armies and easier to check quickly as the configuration is correct.

A small advantage with the creation of a large vSwitch is that you could (if you wish) experiment with the help of multi-NIC-vmotion in ESXi and assign several VMNIC for vMotion and it would be easy to give the VMNIC 'return' for the virtual machines more later if wanted.

  • Create several virtual machines from a

Is it possible to create multiple virtual machines a build? I have a 2008 R2 vm. instead of having to rebuild the whole system from scratch is there a way to make a template or something to create several virtual machines a build? I am using vcenter 5 and I have 2 servers esxi 5.

You can create a template by right-clicking the virtual machine and choose Clone to the model and give the datstore where you want to save after that you will have a model using this model to deploy the virtual machine using Customization Wizard.

  • Need help updated the VMX file on several Virtual Machine

    All,

Can anyone help with a problem I'm having?  Here is a brief explanation of what is happening and what we need to solve.

Recently we found out that we need to add a line in the file VMX of several virtual machines.  In the past, I was able to do this, but would have cold start the virtual machine for the changes to take effect.  Starts cold won't be a problem, because we can program it.

However, no one knows a way to add this line in the file VMX virtual machines in a cluster.

Here's the line I need added:

    Devices.hotplug = "false".

Here is a script that was used earlier (esx 3.0 days) to keep the VM tools updated on reboot.  At this point, if the virtual machine has been turned on, this change could not do through the UI.  However, this script worked to update the .vmx file and then we have cold reboots for the changes to take effect.

    Get-viserver - < Server > - < user > - < password >

    $viview = get-Cluster-name NOMCLUSTER | Get - VM | foreach-object {get-view ($_.ID)}
    $viview | {foreach-object
    $vmConfigSpec = new-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineConfigSpec
    $vmConfigSpec.Tools = new-Object VMware.Vim.ToolsConfigInfo
    $vmConfigSpec.Tools.afterPowerOn = 'True '.
    $vmConfigSpec.Tools.afterResume = 'True '.
    $vmConfigSpec.Tools.beforeGuestStandby = 'True '.
    $vmConfigSpec.Tools.beforeGuestShutdown = 'True '.
    $vmConfigSpec.Tools.ToolsUpgradePolicy = "UpgradeAtPowerCycle".
    $_. ReconfigVM ($vmConfigSpec)
    }

The exact script can be found in Disable HotPlug

  • Capacity Planner Collector on several VIRTUAL LANs help!

    Hello

Please can someone tell me how to go about setting up the collector on a site that has 300 machines on several VIRTUAL LANs? VLANS are separated from each other with no roads between them.

This would require a collector on each VLAN?

How do I link them together and report on the portal?

Any help will be much appreciated.

    Thank you

Yes, you will need a collector on each vlan.

When you deploy the datacollector it is given a unique ID - allows you to affect the business ID data collector you created on the web portal of CP the ID - you can assign multiple datacollecotd for the same ID for the company.

If one of the servers in a DMZ - even once, you would use a separate data collector.

    Hello:

I wonder if there is a way to sync alarms between 2 virtual centres?

Or for example, how to export all the alarms of a VC and their import to another? Is this possible?

Any help would be really appreciated.

    Thank you very much!

The following script will remove all alarms on al visible features

    $alarmManager = Get-View AlarmManager
    $alarms = $alarmManager.GetAlarm($null)
    $alarms | %{
         $alarm = Get-View $_
         $alarm.RemoveAlarm()
    }

Note that this does not remove the alarms on the entities hidden like data centers, the host and the vm.

And please test in an environment out of production first!

There is no way to recover a deleted alarm.
