share a catalog between lightroom 5 and 6

I just upgraded LR 5 to 6 on my desktop machine, because I have a new camera which is not supported in LR 5.

I also shoot one off project site via a laptop in a LR5 catalogue, which is stored on a portable player, that I then interprets in my Studio to work on the images. a few days later I bring her to the place and keep shooting in the same catalog.

my laptop is 32-bit, which means I can't install LR6 on it. It is also too small and not powerful enough to cause real changes in this regard.

How can I share this catalogue LR5 between two machines?

I can't just open it in 6, because it will be converted and then unreadable for 5, right?

Can I force my desktop machine to open the LR5 catalogue? He always seems to be there, at least judging from the files I see in Explorer.

Can I force LR6 to save in a compatible format?

also: the entire workflow of this project is very dependent on plugins that I installed in LR5. I don't know, if they work at 6.

Thank you

Hi georg_m,

As the catalogs are not backward compatible, you can not use catalog Lightroom 6-5.

The best you can do is to write the changes and metadata in the files in Lightroom 6 and import images into Lightroom 5.

After importation, you can read the metadata of these files.

But if you have applied any new functionality develop in Lightroom 6, you would not be able to transfer it.

Even you will not be able to transfer the flags of choice of collections, virtual copy and alter history.

Pleas let us know if it helps.

  • Share a catalog between desktop and portable

Both my machines run on Windows 7 pro and I recently installed Lightroom 3.3. To the help of my office, I imported all the photos in a catalog (catalog of Lightroom 3) on an external hard drive (with e-SATA connection). When I plug the external hard drive to my laptop and try to open the catalog of Lightroom 3, I get an error message: "Lightroom 3 can not use the catalog named"Lightroom 3"because it is not writable and cannot be opened. This can be caused by incorrect permissions or Lightroom because another application is using the catalg'

So, I created a second new catalog (Lightroom 3 catalog 2) on the external hard drive, using the laptop and imported the same pictures. The laptop can open and edit this second catalogue, but the office gives the same error message as described above.

By using these two same machines, with Lightroom 2.7 and a more primitive external hard drive, I used to be able to share a single catalog. Is - it is no longer possible with Lightroom 3.3, or I do something wrong? Or the problem nutrient with the external hard drive? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you!

  • How to synchronize the catalog between mac pro and imac?

I recently bought a macbook pro to work on the road.

Since I was a very big picture library (catalogue of 25 GB, + / 40000 photos), I enclose the keywords to make a nice database.

It is a hell of a job. But with my laptop now I could kill time and I am working on my catalog everywhere. This is the big idea.

I would like the same catalog to keep being synchronized between my imac and laptop. My Imac is still my main computer. This is attached to my NAS system and the database of photos of 6 TB.

All the images are in a catalog. On my laptop I don't need access to this database of real images. I just want to make selections, add keywords. Is there some way this can be done easily, without paying attention to the rather, I'm working on my laptop or My Imac, to avoid disrupting the catalogues.

When I import new images on my laptop, I make a new catalog and import/export this to my main catalog, once my files are on their place on my NAS system.

    Hi Wannesnim,

What you describe is more or less how I work all the time. I use Dropbox to synchronize my catalog and use Smart Previews (also synced via Dropbox) to work with my images. I use a MacBook Pro on the go and a Windows machine at home. I created a video tutorial explaining how this is done:

  • Created a new catalog in Lightroom 3 and all my files/folders are "gone".

Of course, I'm pretty new with Lightroom, but I am quite at a loss to explain what happened.  I wanted to create a new catalog to move files in.  I went to file > new catalog, and then "create a folder with the new catalog" dialog box, I typed in my new name and press "Save".  Boom.  Lightroom closed right.  When I opened upward, all my folders and catologs disappeared.  Nothing is displayed in the navigation section of the left side, other than securities, "Catalogs", "Files", "Collections", etc and they are empty.  In 'My Computer' all the files are still there with the DNG files in place, but LR will not show them to me.  Can someone please explain to me why I can access is no longer my catalogs?  I hope it is something simple that I just keep overlooking...

If Lightroom shuts down accidentally (computer crash, Lightroom crash, power failure) a .lock file is usually left. There are good reasons why the database creates this locking file, which I won't get in, but basically impossible to open your file catalog again until the .lock file is deleted from the hard drive.

Recommended... some people write metadata in files, others do not. It certainly isn't a necessary step. I think that the main advantage to do this, if you want to share photos with other users of Adobe products that can read the changes (LR, PS, bridge or PSE); or if you want to share other metadata (keywrods, legends, location, etc.) in the file with other people or other applications that can read these other metadata. There is therefore, no recommended way to go, there is only the way that fits your needs. The main tool to protect you against the loss of data is the Catalog backup, as there are a few things in the catalog that are never written in the metadata.

If you want to use as your first photographic application, Lightroom I advice to look at some of the many videos on Lightroom that are available online. I would also advise against Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski, as (according to me), their opinion is often off of the brand or simply bad advice.

    Hello

    Maybe this can help.

Win7 when configured on the peer-to-peer network has three types of configurations of sharing.

Group residential network = only works between Win 7 computers. This type of configuration, it is very easy to entry level users to start sharing network.

Working network = fundamentally similar to previous methods of sharing that allow you to control what, how and to whom the records would be shared with.

    Public share
= network Public (as Internet Café) in order to reduce security risks.

Make sure that the software firewall on each computer allows free local traffic. If you use 3rd party Firewall on, Vista/XP Firewall Native should be disabled, and the active firewall has adjusted to your network numbers IP on what is sometimes called the Zone of confidence (see part 3 firewall instructions

    General example, http://www.ezlan.net/faq#trusted
Please note that some 3rd party software firewall continue to block the same aspects it traffic Local, they are turned Off (disabled). If possible, configure the firewall correctly or completely uninstall to allow a clean flow of local network traffic. If the 3rd party software is uninstalled, or disables, make sure Windows native firewall is active .

When you have finished the configuration of the system, it is recommended to restart everything the router and all computers involved.

If you have authorization and security problems, check the following settings.

Point to a folder that wants to share do right click and choose Properties.

    In the properties

Click on the Security tab shown in the bellows of the photo on the right) and verify that users and their permissions (see photo below Centre and left) are configured correctly. Then do the same for the authorization tab.

The Security Panel and the authorization Panel, you need to highlight each user/group and consider that the authorization controls are verified correctly.

When everything is OK, restart the network (router and computer).

    * Note . The groups and users listed in the screen-shoot are just an example. Your list will focus on how your system is configured.

    * Note . There must be specific users. All means all users who already have an account now as users. This does not mean everyone who feel they would like to connect.

  • How to share a partition between El Capitan and Windows 7

    Hi all

    You are looking for assistance.

I'm relatively new to Mac OS and you want to configure a MacBook with El Capitan and Windows 7, with or without boot camp. I have a 1 TB SSD hard drive, where I want to divide it into 3 partitions with the following:

    200 GB Mac OS partition

Score of 200 GB Windows 7 OS

600 GB shared partition accessible between the 2 operating systems.

Whenever I have set the shared FAT32 partition it would either mess boot camp install Win7 or boot camp Win7 will not install unless the FAT32 partition is removed. I even installed Win7 without boot camp and the shared partition is safe on Mac OS, but not accessible in Windows.

Hope that all makes sense. Help will be very appreciated.

    Thank you in advance.

    1. in what year is your MBP?

    2. you can

    a. either manually partition and create the partitions you need, if you need to use Bootcamp, or

    b. install W7 as virtual machine and VM engines will allow you sharing (reading / writing) between the two file systems.

    3. There are many variations to two models of same. W7 and year of Mac are the main limiting factors for your disk formatting.

  • I bought the upgrade for $ 80 between lightroom 4 and lightroom 6.  I now get a message in the upper left corner of lightroom that says mobile trial ending in 30 days

I wonder how do I get my status in lightroom to change mobile trial to be truly permanent.  the lightroom icon 4 is always next to my lightroom icon 6 in doc.  I bought the upgrade and did all the necessary steps as told to me by adobe.

Mobile Lightroom is a separate application that can be installed on your IOS or Android. This will allow you to create collections that can be shared in the cloud and edited on the mobile device. Lightroom Mobile is offered as a trial in Lightroom 6. You have 30 days to evaluate if he is a valuable asset for you. Your Mobile with Lightroom access will be terminated at the end of 30 days. It is only available for those who subscribe to the creative cloud. It has nothing to do with the program of office of Lightroom. If you are sure that you are not interested in using Lightroom Mobile you can click the identity plate and make a pause this feature, and I think that notification of the trial will stop at the display.

  • Sharing catalogs between Windows and OSX LR4

I recently started using Lightroom 4 and was disappointed that I was unable to share my catalog between Windows and OSX as I could with LR2 and 3. The structure of the files has changed somehow? I mainly use a Windows computer at home, but when I travel, I have a MacBook Pro with the Mac of the LR4 version. All of my photos and catalogs are stored on a USB 3.0 external HARD drive. Although load catalog on a Mac shows all of my folders as question marks. It seems that Windows reads the disc as an indicator of the letter, ex. D:\ and OSX it reads as a volume. Used to before that this was not a problem. Does anyone know in a different way, I can get this to work specifically with this program. I already know that I can just download Boot Camp on my mac and run it like this.

I think I found the answer to my own question. The catalogs that I have problems with were created with beta versions LR4. I just created a catalog using LR4 4.3 and loaded on the Win and perfectly good OSX. Hope this helps if anyone wants to try this out.

  • Recover the catalog from lightroom mobile

    Hey there!

My macbook was stolen, just at the time when I returned from my trip to Iceland and I lost my photos
BUT before flying, I enabled synchronization between lightroom desktop and mobile. This means that all my photos are still on my ipad, but I can't find a way to re-download them automatically to my Lightroom catalog on my new macbook. Is there a way to do this?

    You are my last hope!

    Hello

Could not find a way to re-download them automatically to my Lightroom catalog on my new macbook. Is there a way to do this?

The answer is No.Your the images synced on your iPad are just smart previews of your original images and cannot be recovered or treated as a backup copy of your images.

Collections containing these images are present on our servers until they are be synchronized there by your office. Lightroom Mobile does not act as a container of storage for your files.

  • Problems of compatibility of Lightroom 6 and Windows 10.

I used 6 Lightroom on a PC since August/15.  I recently bought a new PC running Windows 10. The PC is SOFTA.  I knew nothing of the trouble with Lightroom 6 since.  He won't move a photo in the module development (blue screen) and regularly stops working when you try to download files from photos. I've deleted and reinstalled several times, without modification.

In desperation, I reinstalled Lightroom 5.  It works well, thank heaven.  There is a problem of basic compatibility between Lightroom 6 and 10 of Windows?  Should I seek to return to Windows 8?

    Hi Billb,

If please install Lightroom 6 and follow the steps below:

    • Go to Lightroom > Preferences.
    • Also please go to preferences > Performance tab and uncheck the box "use graphics processor.
    • Restart Lightroom and see if it works.

  • How to share files between Windows XP and Windows 7 without password?

Hey guys, I want to share files between windows 7 and windows XP. I don't want to put the password on my Windows 7 or Windows XP account. I am going on my Windows XP perfectly shared files from Windows 7, but I am not able to go on my files of windows 7, the cause of my XP he asks user name and password. I enter the user name and it does not accept it if I make a password for my windows 7 and enter as the user name... I don't know what to do guys any help?

Windows 7 only WILL NOT allow you to share files without a password, it's all just a common sense safety requirement.  It of a very bad practice to run your Windows installations with a null value, a password, give your facility a valid password.

The simplest around your problem is to create an account with the same names and passwords on each machine and so typed the password when the connection is too a problem allow AutoLogon on the machines.
