Shared folders and Windows November 10 update

Since "redevelopment" of the update of Windows 10 November, my shared folders do not work.  I had hoped that upgrading 8.1 Fusion is going to fix it but it didn't.

Basically I enable shared folders, such as Documents and downloads, I can access it from the link on the desktop.  However, I don't get my y and Z: drives I was doing.  In addition, at the opening of the Explorer there suddenly from 30 to 60 seconds while he was apparently trying to find these discs.

If I turn off sharing, the Explorer is fast and never crashes.

I tried unisntalling/reinstalling VMWare tools, but it makes no difference.  I have to leave shared folders disabled to have a usable virtual machine.

Any thoughts on how to fix this so that it works as it did before the November update?

Hello

Strange uninstall - reboot - install VMware Tools has been working flawlessly down here to solve a similar problem.

There are a few things you can try.

First check the registry that you do not:

All you have to do is to change the registry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\NetworkProvider\Order
Name: ProviderOrder
Type: REG_SZ
Data: "RDPNP, LanmanWorkstation,webclient"

He should have "vmhgfs" for the first option:

Data: "vmhgfs,RDPNP, LanmanWorkstation,webclient"

Second, try to re-create the shares.

Remove them, turn off sharing, close the dialog box for sharing and then re - open the dialog box and try sharing once more and add the old shares in return.

Yet another thing you can do is to disable the folder change event notification.

The side effect of this is you will need to click Refresh in Windows Explorer to see a change, he could stop the slowness of your Explorer.

While I use it myself I do not recommend for most users.

isolation.tools.hgfs.notify.enable = "FALSE"

See also: http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2011360

Finally, I also see the hosts host file sharing slow down when there was a ton of files and anti-virus analysis actively sharing files.

At least disable the scan compressed files.

    Hello

I'm the developer for the VMware Shared Folders feature.

The problem is caused by the Microsoft updates, destroying the registry settings.

After the upgrade, you just need to check and restore the registry setting below and everything should start working (for folders).

(No need to uninstall and install again, as this will also restore the registry, but takes significantly more time.)

All you have to do is to change the registry

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\NetworkProvider\Order

    Name: ProviderOrder

    Type: REG_SZ

    Data: "RDPNP, LanmanWorkstation, webclient.

    Change it to:

    Data: "vmhgfs, RDPNP, LanmanWorkstation, webclient.

    Exit the registry application

Then you'll then readers of shared folders and the UNC paths accessible once more. No need to reboot or log off. No need to uninstall and reinstall the tools.

It has also been noted in wire Re: support Windows 10

Hope this saves time to users.

Also when I was at Microsoft earlier this year test Win 10 and shared folders, I and others (for redirectors) says the guys from the migration of this question and they promised it would be fixed.

  • Working in a virtual machine of shared folders and not another...

Hi, I'm new to the community but have worked with VMWare Workstation for about 9 months now. I have a set of 5 VM that I run on a regular basis, and I had successfully implemented the shared folders in each VM to a central folder on my C: drive host. I now have new versions of several of the virtual machine and I am trying to configure access to the same shared folder, but it will not be displayed.

After you set up the information in shared folders in the virtual machine settings, I go into the virtual machine on my computer and expect to see under readers network, "Shared Folders on .host '. Who does not appear and when I try to map a network drive to //.host/Shared files /, it can't find the network.

I compared the parameters between a virtual machine that has the Shared folder working and one who does not work, and I can't seem to find any differences.

Here are some of my system details, if it helps:

VMWare Workstation Version 6.5.2 build 156735

Host of OS = Windows Server 2008 (64-bit)

    VM OS = Windows Server 2003 (32-bit)

I've updated the VMWare tools in the virtual machine

I have ideas of what I can try to get this working. Thank you!

Try to upgrade the virtual hardware version 7 - maybe it does.

Why don't you use the entries for the disks in cluster? -of course, you know that they are not stable in WS 6.5

  • Sharing Samba and Windows 7

    Hi friends,

I have the ASUS RT-AC51U router and I created a Samba share on the hard drive connected to the USB port of this router.

My current laptop running Windows 7 computer (and connected router to above) can see the share under 'Network' - I can also read/write in the files/folders when the guest connection is enabled for my part.

Problem when I allow the connection of user/password for my part - My Windows 7 can still see Samba share and list of all the folders under 'network', but I am not able to open the files when I provide my username/password (Samba share user/pwd is different from my Windows user/pwd) in the dialog box

I get the error is that I don't have permission to use this network resource

I tried to enter my user/pwd following combinations and all these not don't work.

    (1) user-name/pwd

    (2) group work-user-name/pwd domain\username

    (3) router-ip\user-name/pwd

Thank you in advance for reading and replying to this message.

    Hi Nitin,

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

This problem may occur if the permission setting is incorrect. To resolve this issue, please see the following steps:

First of all, if you have any firewall or antivirus program installed, please disable it:

Step 1: Change the settings of working group:

    1. Please make sure that these machines are in the same workgroup:

To change the settings of working group, please see the following steps:

    1. click the Start button, then right-click on computer in the right pane and select Properties.

    2. in the name of computer , the domain and workgroup of the window system settings section, click change settings.

    3. on the System Properties dialog box the computer name tab, click change.

    4. in the change of the name or the domain of computer dialog box, type the name of the working group used by the other computers on your network in Workgroup, and then click OK.

If the problem persists, please refer to step 2:

    Step 2: Advanced sharing permission

    1. in Windows 7, right click on the shared folder and then click Properties.

    2. click on the tab share , click Advanced sharing. Check share this folder .

    3. click on the permissions button, click Add.

    4. highlight the account that you want to share this folder to (name of account that will have access to the file), and then check the box allow for total control.

    5. If the list is not the name of the account, please click on the Add button. Type everyone , and then click OK.

    6. click everyone in the list of users and check the allow full control check box in the "permissions for everyone" pane and click apply, click OK.

  • Inspiron 11-Windows, November 10 update causes white screen

Everything worked fine with Windows, 10 July upgrade of 8.1.  Then Windows 10 update in November 1511 causes deadlock blank screen.  After trying everything I could think I touched the screen and Windows suite to start normally.  I've updated the BIOS, I reinstalled Windows 8.1 then installed Windows 10 July build and everything works fine.  November update automatically installs and the problem comes back.  I disabled the function of quick start and came back to the old drivers.  No change.  Problems is still there.  I have no device USB and no software/apps not installed at this time.  Dell support spent a lot of time with me on the phone and tried everything and NO success.  Problems is still there.

This sounds like the same problem, I got several weeks back, when I upgraded my Dell 3148 of the original Windows 10 (build 10240) to Windows 10 1511 (build 10586).  I lost almost a whole day trying to figure what happened.  Here's what I found...:

My 3148 worked perfectly with Windows 8.1 - everything was fine.  When I upgraded to Windows 10 build 10240 in August, it was working fine as well.  When I upgraded to Windows 10 build 10586 in November, the system would block at the start, a black screen.

In my case, I have determined that the cause of the hang is the Synaptics touchpad.  If you uninstall the driver for the touchpad (falling back to the default Windows for the touchpad mouse driver), then the laptop starts fine.  But you lose gestures, acceleration, etc. with the touchpad, which was really annoying.

I tried to back out the Synaptics driver to a previous version (did not help), I tried to back out the Intel I2C driver to a previous version (did not help either).  I gave image laptop computer by using the recovery DVD, then upgraded to Windows 10 build 10586, then accrued all the drivers of Intel system and the Synaptics driver to the original (working) Windows versions 8.1 and it did not help either.

I tried all the drivers Windows 10 new on Dell 3148 support site and it did not help - the laptop hangs just at the start.

So basically the Windows 10 TH2 10586 build will not work on the Dell 3148 at this time.

Ultimately I gave up and reconfigured to 8.1 Windows again and disabled all Windows 10 forced upgrade of reminders that pushes Microsoft (using http://blog.ultimateoutsider.com/2015/08/using-gwx-stopper-to-permanently-remove.html that works very well).

I hope that Dell (or Microsoft) solves this serious problem of compatibility, because I really want to use Windows 10, but he has basically no longer works.  At the present time I am back on Windows 8.1 and the laptop works fine once more.

I hope this helps... and Dell if you read this, please someone look at this...!

  • Windows Update not working do not Error Message and Windows Defender cannot update Error Message definitions

I have a laptop Dell 1501 with Vista Home Basic 32-bit.

I ran CA 2010 Security Suite and you have scanned for Malware with regard to the Windows Update Error Message. He found none. I ran Microsoft Malware malicious tool, and it found. I ran Windows Defender and he found. I don't have CA and Windows Firewall to protect my computer and I have disabled both in trying to solve this problem of Windows Update and Windows Defender.

I got this error 4 days ago. Here is what I tried:

-I went on various Web sites, including Microsoft Support - and tried to solve the problem through services.msc and msconfig.exe. None worked.

-J' noticed in msconfig. where it says start waiting next to Windows Update. There are 3-4 elements, which are affiliated to Windows Update and made sure they did not exist in the registry.

-J' have to ensure that they were supposed to be automatic or manual under services.msc.

-J' rebooted several times and nothing changes.

Windows Defender does not update the definitions, and I do not know if this coincides with the release of Windows does not.

I am at my wit's end and do not want to crash and burn my computer.

I need serious help. Please, I beg you!

    Thank you.

I had to call Microsoft. Alex tried to add registry keys and input upgrade.

My Windows Update has almost been altered. It could be my mistake or it has become corrupted when running other services at the same time.

I was sent a Windows 7 Home Premium Disc to upgrade and start over, as my Vista disk was corrupted as well.

I would not recommend trying one of the suggestions listed on other sites. It's my personal opinion because I have in the past and it worsened my problem.

I also wouldn't delete all programs (unless absolutely necessary) because I remove 4 MSMXL and he made their work more difficult.

  • vmrun shared folders and

I tried almost all of the combinations that I can get and the web search (and especially these forums) for a response, so I apologize if that's the answer somewhere.

I'm trying to use virtual machines to run my compilations automated nightly and other compilations. of course, I have to use vmrun. What I can't seem to make it work using a shared folder to access the source files. I know that is the problem and not the mechanic that I use to start the compilations because I can copy the source to the virtual computer and use the same procedure and it works.

    Here is the proposed process:

vmrun start < vmx > nogui

Sleep.bat 240 (batch file for ping n %1, etc., to expect that the VM comes well enough)

    echo net use Y: '\\vmware-host\Shared Folders\job_share' /p:no > C:\run\run_net.bat

    vmrun t ws - gu < user > gp - < pass > copyFileFromHostToGuest < vmx > C:\run\run_net.bat C:\run\run_net.bat

    vmrun t ws - gu < user > gp - < pass > runProgramInGuest < vmx > C:\run\run_net.bat

    echo of Ant-f Y:\build.xml > C:\run\run_ant.bat

    vmrun t ws - gu < user > gp - < pass > copyFileFromHostToGuest < vmx > C:\run\run_ant.bat C:\run\run_ant.bat

    vmrun t ws - gu < user > gp - < pass > runProgramInGuest < vmx > C:\run\run_ant.bat

vmrun stop < vmx > soft

I tried to use enableSharedFolders and addSharedFolder. I read somewhere that you need to map the folder "net use". I tried to run with - interactive and - activeWindow, once again read somewhere that - interactive uses different processes to enable shared folders that are already enabled in the VMX, but when I use - interactive to run Ant batch file, it the error that the user must be connected in interactive mode.

Technically, I could copy the sources on the virtual computer files before compiling and it works. but there are many, many source files it is not practical. I don't know there is something I'm missing, but I am at a loss as to what. Help, please.

There is no need to map the shared folder. the UNC path is available after you have enabled the shared folder for the customer.

-interactive and - activewindow requires a user connects. You use Autologon to have a connection to the virtual machine? Oterwise, leave the settings

  • After update to 10.11.5 I may more access shared folders/printers Windows PC network

My Mac repeat myself "you are not allowed access to this server." whenever I try to connect to a shared folder on a Windows 7 PC. Also, I can't print on a shared printer connected to a Windows PC.

These two things worked perfectly before the update. Nothing has changed on the PC.  I tried to restart both computers. I tried without sharing and re-sharing the folder on the PC. The folder is configured to allow "free access" to "everyone" access as guest.

    Any suggestions?

No problems like that here (post - 10.11.5). But inter-networking with windows has been hit or miss as long as I remember. Good luck finding the bug...

  • Blocking of ThinkPad 8 Windows November 10 update

My Thinkpad 8 running a Windows 32-bit Pro generic picked up 10 installation update 1511 10586 build yesterday and I tried to install it. Twice, the installation hangs at the helm of the 40%, during the "installing devices". The tablet itself is not blocked, for example, it stores keys and finger swipes, and the screen turns with orientation of the tablet. But after two attempts, the second a night, there is no progress.

I guess a driver issue, but it seems there is no paper left behind. After power is turned off the power and restart, the Tablet he goes back to the previous version, and there is no new breadcrumbs to help diagnose.

Anyone else seeing a similar thing? Ideas?

No, the log is here, but I saw something useful because the configuration basically hung and the system restored.

However! I've used the Panel of control-> Security and maintenance-> view reliability history to generate a report, and he was able to capture a problem. The update has been logging a 0x8024200D failure, which leads to this knowledge base article:

    https://support.Microsoft.com/en-us/KB/947821

There, he recommends running the tool "dism" from an elevated command prompt:

    DISM.exe / Online/Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

I ran this and it connected that some corruption in the local repository has been found.

I started the manual update method by going here:

    https://www.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Windows-10-upgrade

    Will report back later.

    [EDIT]

Success. Completed the update restarted and the table is running 1511.

If it affects everyone, please try the above and mark it as a solution, as appropriate.

Hi, several months ago I updated my x 360 11 for windows 10 stream. everything went smoothly and works perfectly. Now there is a new update to windows 10. This update that I was not able to install. After you download the update automatically, follows a screen with the installation process. I don't want to uninstall all applications that I have, I have doubts of the update of data space. Ive attached an sd card with enough space and a HD them selected in the screen but still wants to have 5 GB to install the update. Any procedure of updating without deleting and reinstalling all the applications and data. Thank you

  • shared folders (host: windows server 2003, ubuntu reviews)

Hi, I'm under VMware Player 3.0.1 on Windows server 2003.

I built a WM with a host-only connection, and I'm under Ubuntu 2.6.28 on it.

I want to just copy some date from the host to the host.

I created a folder on the host (windows) and I checked it in the file sharing settings in the virtual machine settings.

My problem is that I don't know where I can see this folder on my ubuntu (guest).

    Any idea?

    Thank you. Overview

Shared VMware folder do not need a network connection.

However, they are not necessary for a network connection, you can use the card AMD PCnet32 driver. But the VMware tools are highly recommended and necessary for shared VMware folder Option.

Remember to switch to standard network shares.
