Working in a virtual machine of shared folders and not another...

Hi, I'm new to the community but have worked with VMWare Workstation for about 9 months now. I have a set of 5 VM that I run on a regular basis, and I had successfully implemented the shared folders in each VM to a central folder on my C: drive host. I now have new versions of several of the virtual machine and I am trying to configure access to the same shared folder, but it will not be displayed.

After you set up the information in shared folders in the virtual machine settings, I go into the virtual machine on my computer and expect to see under readers network, "Shared Folders on .host '. Who does not appear and when I try to map a network drive to //.host/Shared files /, it can't find the network.

I compared the parameters between a virtual machine that has the Shared folder working and one who does not work, and I can't seem to find any differences.

Here are some of my system details, if it helps:

VMWare Workstation Version 6.5.2 build 156735

Host of OS = Windows Server 2008 (64-bit)

VM OS = Windows Server 2003 (32-bit)

I've updated the VMWare tools in the virtual machine

I have ideas of what I can try to get this working. Thank you!

Try to upgrade the virtual hardware version 7 - maybe it does.

Why don't you use the entries for the disks in cluster? -of course, you know that they are not stable in WS 6.5

    Hello

    Looking for help here...

I notice that if I try to open a file on my Mac with an application of my virtual machine (Win XP Professional) I get 2 options for each windows application:

    1. Windows Media Player - Windows XP Professional (2.0.4)

    2. Windows Media Player - Windows XP Professional (2.0.5)

The 2.0.4 option never works but the 2.0.5 option. I know this has something to do with the upgrade to the latest 2.0.5 version, but how do you / is it possible to remove the non-fonctionnel 2.0.4 options?

    Help, please! It's pretty boring.

Make sure that the virtual machine is turned off and not suspended.  First locate the virtual machine in the finder.  You can do it by Ctrlclicking on it from the library of the virtual machine and choose Show in Finder.  In Finder Ctrlthe .vmwarevm of the virtual machine and choose "show package content".  If some shows as a folder go there.  Of in the virtual machine folder, you will see a folder named Applications.  Applications are the links to the Applications that you open in the virtual machine.  Remove vouchers there should do.  You may be able to determine the good by the update and the last number should be also the most recent.  These changes to take effect, you will need to reboot or restart the finder.  To restart the finder press and hold Esc, command,Option, and choose finder in there and restart.

You can also just delete the Applications folder and then start the virtual machine.  Once that the virtual machine is started just enter the unit.  Entering the unit will recreate this Applications folder with the correct files in there.  You should always restart or restart the finder once this is done before it takes effect in the mac operating system.

  • the mouse no longer works in the virtual machine

My job requires me to work on a Windows virtual machine installed on a USB 3.0.

I used to work with a virtual machine that has been installed on my hard drive and never had any problems with my mouse stop working. Now that we have changed the VM on a flash drive, my mouse works once per day.

I changed the mouse on a new and stop working too.

I have to force close down on my PC and reboot to get it to start working again.

This could be the cause of this problem?

  • Off-host backup methods (like HDS ShadowImage, EMC BCVS, etc.) works in a virtual machine?

    HI Experts,

Off-host backup methods (like HDS ShadowImage, EMC BCVS, etc.) works in a Virtual Machine (if the volume to be backed up is created on RDM)?

This means that each such VM who have need to have backup off-host using ShadowImage have their LUNS dedicated (using RDM) and not on VMFS volumes.

    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

If you find this answer useful please consider giving points by checking the correct or helpful answer.

I'm not sure it's really a 'problem '.  If you take a snapshot of the side storage (BCV, NetApp snapshot, whatever) you're after a point-in-time backup.  The fact that changes to virtual RDM will make a delta file while the snapshot of the virtual machine exists doesn't make much difference insofar as what is in the snapshot storage - except that he has invited at least FS compliant (compatible app is another debate).  You always have a snapshot of time point, and it is always the data that exist when you trigger the process.

So, with virtual mode, you can use instant VMware (using RAS as VMware tools are installed) and get a consistent snapshot of comments-FS.

Physical RDM mode, it's tools, usually from the storage provider, in the prompt flush/being suspended.  NetApp SnapDrive one is an example of this.  SnapDrive one uses the same win32 calls to rinse the NTFS.  You can put SnapManager for Exchange, SQL, SharePoint, in addition to this, and now you're app - are as well.

You can make snapshots of storage of data a VMFS or NFS warehouses.  You would need a script or a tool to clean virtual machines.  There is an example of a very simple script in NetApp TR3428 (http://www.netapp.com/us/library/technical-reports/tr-3428.html), or if you actually NetApp, you can use IVMS (http://www.netapp.com/us/library/technical-reports/tr-3737.html).  These scripts don't rinse apps by themselves, but depending on the application, you can incorporate pre/post scripts in the virtual machine.

    Enjoy!

  • Shared folders and Windows November 10 update

Since "redevelopment" of the update of Windows 10 November, my shared folders do not work.  I had hoped that upgrading 8.1 Fusion is going to fix it but it didn't.

Basically I enable shared folders, such as Documents and downloads, I can access it from the link on the desktop.  However, I don't get my y and Z: drives I was doing.  In addition, at the opening of the Explorer there suddenly from 30 to 60 seconds while he was apparently trying to find these discs.

If I turn off sharing, the Explorer is fast and never crashes.

I tried unisntalling/reinstalling VMWare tools, but it makes no difference.  I have to leave shared folders disabled to have a usable virtual machine.

Any thoughts on how to fix this so that it works as it did before the November update?

    Hello

Strange uninstall - reboot - install VMware Tools has been working flawlessly down here to solve a similar problem.

There are a few things you can try.

First check the registry that you do not:

All you have to do is to change the registry

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\NetworkProvider\Order

    Name: ProviderOrder

    Type: REG_SZ

    Data: "RDPNP, LanmanWorkstation,webclient"

He should have "vmhgfs" for the first option:

    Data: "vmhgfs,RDPNP, LanmanWorkstation,webclient"

Second, try to re-create the shares.

Remove them, turn off sharing, close the dialog box for sharing and then re - open the dialog box and try sharing once more and add the old shares in return.

Yet another thing you can do is to disable the folder change event notification.

The side effect of this is you will need to click Refresh in Windows Explorer to see a change, he could stop the slowness of your Explorer.

While I use it myself I do not recommend for most users.

    isolation.tools.hgfs.notify.enable = "FALSE"

    See also: http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2011360

Finally, I also see the hosts host file sharing slow down when there was a ton of files and anti-virus analysis actively sharing files.

At least disable the scan compressed files.

  • How is it possible to clone a virtual machine cluster when data warehouses not presented in source and destination

I did not know that on ESX 3.5, in order to afin de vivre live clone a virtual machine from one ESX host to another, source and destination stores had to be available. However, I'm currently cloning a virtual machine to a host in a datacenter and cluster to one host in a different data center, but the destination store is not available at the source host and visa versa.

How is that possible?  This is a new feature of vSphere?

That seems to work on the console port. See this thread: http://communities.vmware.com/message/1475721#1475721

  • Move a virtual machine from an ESX3 server to another ESX3 server by using a flash drive

I looked at the following link:

    http://communities.VMware.com/thread/95022

It is close to what I need, but I need to move a virtual machine on the network.  The virtual machine is 80 GB and would take days to transfer.  I would like to copy the virtual machine locally on a USB and then take to the other server (on a remote site) and transfer it to what is now the ESX Server.  What is the best way to do it?

I tried to download the local ESX Server on my flash files using the utility of data/download store to browse.  However, he is stopped at 4 GB and said I was out of space, even if it is flash a lot of space.

    Thanks for the tips.

Another method is to export the virtual machine in the OVF format and store on the USB key and then import it form the USB on the new ESX host

You can edit vmx file while the virtual machine is running? And is it safe?

    Hello

Moved to the forum of the Virtual Machine and the guest operating system.

If you edit the VMX while the virtual machine is powered on change is not levied until the power off then power on (not reboot) and there is a good chance that the change will be deleted when turn you off the system. So it is not safe to do so.

  • need to configure a connection wireless network with static IP address to make a panasonic wireless display of work on the virtual machine

Hi, I'm new to macs and Fusion. I have a MacBook Pro 13 mid-2009, running 10.5.7 and Fusion 2.0.5, running Win XP Pro SP3 as the virtual machine (not in a bootcamp partition separate). I added a second network as a bridged network adapter (first one is set to NAT). I'm trying to connect my wireless panasonic (802 11b) to the virtual machine display, as I do on my old sony PC. Normally, I turn on the wireless on the PC, find the network wireless in Win XP and configure my SSID and necessary of static IP address and configure the NIC to search only ad-hoc connections (non-infrastructure). I also turn off the firewall so that it can work. There is a panasonic program runs on the PC (which I also installed on the virtual machine) makes it all happen once I have the connection. So the place that seems to be stuck, it's that I can't find a wireless to configure network adapter since--what the VM is a NA standard, so there is no place to specify the SSID, ad-hoc and disable the WEP key. Someone has ideas how to go beyond my current state?

In addition, the panasonic only works at 800 x 600 for the display resolution, so it will automatically change the graphics settings. I guess that's not a problem on the VM, but thought I would ask in advance in case someone sees a problem with it.

    Thank you very much.

    Larry

If the only way you can connect to the device is via WiFi, then you will need to provide your own WiFi USB network adapter to the virtual machine because Fusion presents only the network card Ethernet wired to the Virtual Machine, regardless of the host network adapter is the main map.

  • networking of virtual machine of the internet does not work

Hi, I am a beginner in Linux, my friend recommend install me VMware 6.0.3 for practice station. I choose the NAT configuration for my virtual machine, because I have a wireless card on my host (winxp-3 Pack), the period of investigation (get automatically from DHCP server) is 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2 is my router to external internet gateway; I set virtual machine sitting in 192.168.88.0 segment. I tried to ping 192.168.1.2 - my physical network adapter, there is no road, looks like icmp knows only 192.168.88.2 (the VMware network adapter is 192.168.88.1), the gateway to the virtual network, but he does not know where to send the packets next hop.

I put something else to let work?    The snapshot of the configuration is in the attachment.

    Thanks much for any help!

No, it's quite normal. The gateway by default and DNS for the guest is the IP address of the host VMnet8 + 1 card.

You can check this by opening the editor of virtual network within VMware Workstation, go to the NAT "tab" and look at the IP address of the gateway. You can also click "Edit", where you can configure (if necessary) DNS servers. But under normal circumstances, the default gateway setting here covers the host DNS queries. They will be transmitted to the DNS server that is configured on the host computer.

Generally a server should not have multiple default gateways. For the host, it is the default gateway configured on the physical map (otherwise communication would be locked to himself). This is why the army should not have a default gateway on VMnet1 and VMnet8.

NAT (VMnet8) allows you to communicate with the outside, the guest need default gateway to know where to send the packages which are not intended for the LAN VMnet8 (DNS queries for example). He uses this special IP

  • Persistent routes no longer work after the virtual machine restarts

    Hello community.

I was hoping that someone can shine a light on a problem I have experienced. I have a virtual machine that multiple network cards. Some are exposed to the Internet, some are just private and some are B2B connections. Now, I put the roads for a particular to Adapater it limits by using this command: route add 13.x.x.x mask 255.255.255.255 if0x10005-p 10.x.x.x. I could pinch the IP address once I put it but once I restart the virtual machine of the road is still there, but I can no longer to pinch the INVESTIGATION period. This happens in several environments I.

I am running windows 2003 which has been recently patched with the latest

I'm running the latest ESX3 and VC 2.5

    Any help would be great.

FYI - Pinch is another form of Ping.

Set the gateway on the roads. Both that the getway is only not shared by any other way on the same system your traffic should go out any interface is associated with the network which is located in the gateway. in this way, you don't have to worry about the interface.

  • If I had virtual machines running 3.5 and I update to 4.0 VMs still work?

    Hey there!

Well, today I had a request to create a virtual computer that is running Server 2003 x 64.

I have ESXi 3.5.0 and according to this site, it is not possible to install x 64-bit operating systems.

The solution is to run ESXi 4.

I wanted to try and install ESXi 4 on 3.5.0. Virtual machines are in a separate hard disk of the ESXi installation location.

My question is, once ESXi 4 is running, will the system VMs flowing underneath?

    Are there problems?

    Thank you guys!

If your host has VT turned on in the bios (not all processors supported by this feature), you can then run 'standard' x 64 vm s on 3.5.  The link that you referenced is if you use paravirtualized VM.  Most of the people do not use paravirtualized.

  • How the physical machine can communicate with the virtual machines as well as the internet should work on a virtual machine

    Hi team,

I ask that you forgive for asking a silly question without doing a free search.

I'm using VMware workstation 6.5. I am able to communicate with both machines by selecting 'only option of home. "

Is there a way by which the physical machine can communicate with the virtual machines.

At the same time through the VMS, is it possible to access the Internet from the physical amchine.

    Help, please.

    Concerning

    Sriapti

When you use a bridged vNIC the customer acts as any other host, so that you can access is by his IP (or name if a DNS configuration exists as you acceding to any other host.) What tools you can use depends on the guest operating system and the software available.

I assume you mean access deskopt. Then you can use RDP (Windows Terminal services) or VNC (tight/tiny).

For Linux, you can use this last or all the flavors of SSH. In the case of Linux, I use VNC through SSH tunnel. You can also tunnel X through SSH, so if you have an X server on another host (such as the Hummingbird for Windows), you can open your own office remotely there.
